Madellaine Redesign notes

Hnhnnn time for another rundown on my Madellaine redesign. I love remaking bad movies. And I admit I have grown attached to my Maddie, she feels like a REAL character now!

I said this multiple times but Maddie's color is red&pink. It complements Quasi and symbolizes love. Not just romantic love, but platonic and self love Madellaine finds during her journey.

I know she looks mean in the other pic but it's how she developed trust issues from abuse. It's more realistic. Coupled with rejecting Quasi at first like in the canon movie, she realizes her ice queen attitude is a major flaw she needs to overcome.

I gave her traits that aren't considered "beautiful" by eurocentric standards. And I rarely see animated heroines with naturally DARK lips like mine. Or dark brown eyes for that matter.

To show her low status she doesn't wear bright reds. Instead she wears pale pink (the color faded over the years) and a brownish/red overskirt. I also gave her longer hem and sleeves. Since Disney heroines tend to get a fancy outfit I gave Maddie one too. I altered Quasi's formal attire to green to complement.

I try to make her circus gown more accurate to the times. Unlike the harlequin's traditional red&black it's purple and blue, showing the stranglehold Sarousch has on her. She does look creepy with the makeup - that's intentional. Her warm smile reveals her true personality.

For Zephyr's design I thought the obvious choice was to give him traits from both his parents. This is reflected from his physical features to outfit. Gold and purple are the two prominent colors and split in Half, while blue and teal are accents. His eyes are a different shade of green, and his hair is dark brown.

Madellaine would have looked so much cuter like this. You canNOT change my mind. She should have been Sarousch's biological daughter or something; that would have made her trauma darker and more akin to that of Quasimodo's which is her overall character arc anyway. Making it darker by having Sarousch her actual father would have at least been a little closer to the dark nature of the original movie.

Also, Madellaine just straight up looks SO WEIRD to me, with some of the color choices.

I made another version where she's still caucasian, but a brunette with green eyes. Look how YELLOW her original skin color is in that scene. Yes, she's inside a golden bell, but there's so many shots of her in the movie where she is sickly yellow. She looks like she could be in the Simpsons!

I don't know man, either way, I wish they had made her Romani/Sarousch's daughter. The movie keeps comparing the Romani people to the circus people anyway, might as well just hammer it home if you gotta.

Would have made room for some more complex dialogue and made it more adult too like the original.
