Do you have any advice on how to write a noncon scene? I kind of want to try writing one as an experiment, but it’s not something I’m used to writing at all. I really don’t know where to start. I’m worried that it will just end up being cringy.

CW: Discussion of writing noncon under the cut, will not be graphic exactly but it will discuss emotions, resulting trauma, physical effects, etc

So, my first piece of advice is this: do not be afraid of the first go-round being cringy. Do not fear this. It will probably happen, because your first time writing out of your previous comfort zone will often end up feeling stilted or difficult! That is TOTALLY normal, don’t feel bad.

Secondly, let’s talk POV. Because a noncon scene from the whumper POV will be very different than from the whumpee POV. Your whumper can be intimate - they can be forcing some kind of affection into the moment, playacting at this being something other than what it is, etc. They may be sadistic and chasing their own pleasure without any regard for how it hurts the whumpee, or enjoying their pain.

The whumpee may be frightened. They may be angry. They may get sick, or feel sick. They may be defiant or freeze up (fight, flight, or freeze is a good place to start thinking this through - would my OC fight back? Would they try to get away? Would they just freeze up and go still?)

Some super quick pointers:

1. It is very possible or entirely inevitable that your whumpee WILL be injured unless the whumper takes specific care to take steps to keep them from being physically injured by the process. The process of preparing them is often good for building tension and dread into a scene, but it’s not necessary if it doesn’t fit your whumper.

2. If your whumper is an intimate or romantic whumper, they may spend time trying to make the whumpee ‘enjoy’ themself, or convincing them they want this, or they made it happen in some way, etc. If they are sadistic, they may instead delight in emphasizing how much the whumpee does NOT want it! An overlap may be discussing how beautiful their tears are, etc.

3. Your whumpee’s thoughts will likely fragment and become disjointed or panicked, but also they may begin to dissoci@te, feeling ‘separate’ from themself and what’s happeing to them.

4. You don’t need to use a lot of flowery terminology for the body parts involved. I’m a big fan of cutting to the chase. Call a cock a cock, if you will. Euphemisms can be incredibly distracting for the reader and take them out of the scene. But also, if your creepy whumper is like my Savvie Marcoset, maybe they use those euphemisms to build even further dread and disgust in the whumpee without even realizing it. The flowery language may be part of how the whumper hurts them.

5. Noncon is a traumatic event. Your whumpee may try to set it aside, to keep going. Some survivors can rationalize or talk themselves through it long enough to push through the immediate danger. Some can’t. Take some time to think through your OC and what their post-noncon response would be. Every single person who survives a traumatic event is an individual who may have a different response both in the moment and afterward.

Examples:

Kauri tends to turn it around, because of his own trauma and conditioning, and convince himself he wanted it. He pursues unhealthy physical connections with men for a long time as a way to more or less feel in control of a body he lost any agency over. With Owen, in the moment, he tries to please him and is frightened of not being able to do so well enough to keep Owen happy.

@whumpiary’s Cassius Bergen outright seeks out echoes of his own trauma to take control of it, and in the moment even when frightened forces himself to feign being into it, cracks jokes, etc.

@evermetnotforgotten’s Lev often dissoci@tes heavily and simply feels less present during his assaults.

Danny Michaelson slips into a headspace of eager-to-please to make his experience less horrifying in the moment only to let his emotions out when he’s alone.

Chris, you’ll notice, even in his memories primarily thinks of what happened to him with Oliver in metaphor and very vague allusions and doesn’t think about it with detail - until his breakdown, when finally you see him remember and acknowledge how absolutely horrifying his experience was, the terror and pain. In the moment, when he is facing it, he freezes up, goes still, and can’t fight back or even run.

@moose-teeth’s B is a fighter, who defies and fights until literally injured badly enough that he can’t anymore.

@whump-tr0pes’s Isaac names it what it is but also folds it into his existing struggles with self-loathing.

Antoni simply represses it entirely and refuses to acknowledge it ever happened. Even in the moment with Mr. Davies, he refused to name what was happening to him, because it would make it ‘real’.

6. For writing in the moment - if whumpee POV, keep in mind that as the scene unfolds, the whumpee’s thoughts will likely get shorter, interrupted, cut off. Show, don’t tell - the scratchy cheap sheets under their back, a cold chain around their ankles, the overheated warmth of the whumper, how sweat feels dripping onto skin. Disgust. Nausea. Their movements. Describe it all. Rather than saying, “Whumpee laid on the bed and thought they would throw up”, consider some details that feel more immediate:

Whumpee’s eyes locked on the ceiling fan, lazily circling, clicking softly with each full circle of the blades. The rhythmic click of the fan matched the way Whumper moved, his every rock forward briefly blotting out the sight of the fan, revealing it again.

His stomach twisted, lurched, and he felt bile rise up his throat. When he coughed, dry and sounding more like a sob, the Whumper clapped a hand over his mouth and whispered, “Don’t you dare ruin this moment.”

7. For writing the aftermath - does your whumper pretend to comfort them? Do they clean the Whumpee up, provide aftercare that is a mockery of affection? Do they simply leave them to clean themself up, or even leave them somewhere where that isn’t possible? Are they injured, requiring first aid?

8. Finally, I want to reiterate my first bit of advice: the first time you write noncon, it will probably be cringy. It’s your first draft! Oh man. The first noncon scene I ever wrote was the actual fucking worst. It was SO BAD. But I reused details from it later on in a much better-written scene!

Get the writing out, then reread and edit as you go, working through bits you’re not sure about. Consider how you can make the moments connect and flow together.

My biggest advice for a successful scene here is to remember that you are writing an act which will be traumatic to the Whumpee. Don’t throw that aside or ignore it, and to focus on sensory details of the experience to make it more immediate and grounded.

No me valla a decir que Anie se enamorara de Vladimir :u No lo digo de mala gana, es solo que yo creo que Vladimir y Anie no harían muy buena pareja, a Anie le vendria mejor alguien con un caracter amable :3 Porque casi siempre la quieren emparejar con un ángel con actitud un tanto...... ummm muy seria xd Oh bueno es su decisión yo realmente creó que es mejor no emparejarla con un angel.... De nuevo XD

Pues... fíjate que una persona cercana me dio esa idea...

Después de la ultima vez, no quiero volver a emparejar a mi Anie ni a mis personajes con ningún otro oc ajeno al mio o mas bien que no sea de mi creación, debido a que no quiero volver a pasar por la misma situación de hace un tiempo, aun me esta costando sacar un poco tal dolor de mi garganta, y no quiero mas situaciones parecidas. (A excepción de Antonie con Zuh, que al menos tengo el presentimiento de que su creadora no me va hacer lo mismo por lo que pase hace tiempo... verdad aadbas?! I:U...)

Por eso se los he dicho antes, Vladimir no sera de nadie, dado a que no solo porque el personaje es muy difícil de conquistar, si no que yo no pienso dar la confianza de dar el corazón de mi creación a alguien mas otra vez.

Así que, volviendo a lo de Vladimir y Anie, lo menos que estoy pensando ahora es que si van a quedarse como pareja, te digo, ya me han dado la idea, pero no me termina de convencer.

Lo único que me importa es la historia de ellos... y creo que es lo que debería importarte a ti también, no con quien se va a enamorar Vladimir o de quien se va enamorar Anie, olvídate de eso, y hay que enfocarnos mejor en lo que hay que enfocarse, por favor.

2. Give them a warm drink of your choice, what would it be? Would their choice differ from yours?

hm…… i think megana would be a tea girl. i can imagine cheydinhal has a big tea subculture; honestly i think most tes races would have their own special teas, but the mix of dunmer and imperial culture in cheydinhal would lead to some amazing ones — especially for rich merchant’s families.

i could see azug being into tea too but i would give her hot chocolate i think she’d like it.

i want to give antony coffee because he’s a little bitch that would like black coffee but let’s say he also gets hot chocolate. i love hot chocolate. yes these are the only three warm drinks i can think of

8. What is a smell that makes them feel at home?

for megana, i think floral scents remind her of home and calm her. cheydinhal has a lot of plants and flowers!

for azug, i’d say it’s the smell of pastries baking — i think the first oc questions i ever answered from you included something about her loving berry crostatas. the smell of baking reminds her of being home with her friends and making them food, of traveling and stopping at inns, and — though she doesn’t miss her childhood home as much as megana does — it subconsciously reminds her of bakers in the market district, and of being home while her mother cooked. orcish spices make her relax too.

antony is too chronically homeless to have an answer to this

11. What is an item of clothing/an accessory that completes them/makes them feel at home?

uhhhh i’m so bad at writing about clothes. rain check on this one?

19. What is something they excel at?

megana excels at anything with money; saving, haggling, budgeting. she does have an unfortunate exception — when magic comes into question (for lessons or artifacts) she.. doesn’t always make the best financial decisions

azug excels at clothes mending! fixing her family’s clothes was her unofficial ‘job’ as a kid, and that skill is very useful as an adventurer

antony excels at justifying murder <3

39. If they could go back in time, how would they reassure their child-self about the future?

if given the chance, azug would just tell her child-self that they get out of cyrodiil, out from under their family’s thumb and the constant turmoil between them. her life doesn’t end up perfect, far from it, but when she was a kid and a teen? that was her main worry

megana would tell herself that they do end up a mage, like they always wanted. that they get to go exploring and adventuring and make friends and have pets, that they’re not controlled by their mother for their whole life

i truly don’t know what antony might say to his child-self. i don’t know that he has the self awareness to say something you or i would think of as genuinely “reassuring”. just the fact that they survive, i think

Do forgive me for not making anything specific to certain characters , but I have some oc questions for u!

1. What textures do they like the best? Clothing or otherwise

2. What’s the thing they just can’t not feel awe and admiration about? Is it a place? How about a person?

3. How much do they care about their hair? They a 13 different additives every morning, or a ‘shower in the next month or two’ type of person?

4. What kinda freaks em out? Not like full on panic, but just a general sense of uncomfortable-ness. Like the thought of stubbing your toe real bad.

5. If they had a pet, what would they be most likely to name it?

6. Preferred living space aesthetics? Do they like classic Victorian, or a warm cozy cabin?

7. How do they keep their living space? Is it the ‘everything is organized, just in the messiest way possible’, or something a little bit more elaborate?

8. Have they got any stuffed animals or other toys?

i have utterly no knowledge of textures, i don’t notice them enough to know what certain things feel like and i have no clue what textures would exist in tes so i made some stuff up

azug: azug is like weirdly into the texture of the berries in a crostata. she likes jazbay grape crostatas the best

megana: megana really likes cashmere — remember, she’s an imperial rich girl, it was the favored winterwear when she grew up in cheydinhal. it’s not as trendy in skyrim but she has a couple shawls she busts out for special occasions

antony: antony just likes anything that isn’t itchy. he grew up a little street urchin and is used to poorly made clothes

2. What’s the thing they just can’t not feel awe and admiration about?

azug: azug admires courage. she’s courageous herself but she’s also very anxious and can’t help but admire others for being brave too

megana: megana will forever be awed by other’s magical skill. she’d be in the middle of a wizard battle mentally ranting about the other mage’s cool epic spells

antony: antony LOVES statues. he doesn’t like people he Does like statues. and nature in general

3. How much do they care about their hair?

azug: she washes it but she keeps it under a hood a lot of the time so like. hood hair

megana: literally not at all her hairstyle is very just “practical” (it’s not it flies in her face all the time but she doesn’t want it shorter and likes not having to style it)

antony: he washes it when there’s blood in it. that’s it

4. What kinda freaks em out?

azug: azug hated every single creature she discovered on solstheim. just solstheim as a whole actually, she doesn’t enjoy it

megana: trolls.

antony: he thinks imps are kind of freaky. they’re strange little flying men. and they have no genitals. enough said

5. If they had a pet, what would they be most likely to name it?

azug: azug’s closest thing to a pet is her horse, hjalte. he’s like her equine bestie. she named him that because the stablemaster told her he had a habit of helping travelers fight off wolves (he’d then disappear back into the wilds. he just likes stomping shit. one time he kept antagonizing erik and lucien. he likes to fuck around)

megana: she does have a pet! it’s thistle. but she was already named. if megana had to pick a name she’d probably go for Magnus or some such. maybe name it after a spell

antony: antony does not have an interest in pets. if he did have one it’d be a dog and he’d either find some obscure hero to name it after or name it something stupid like Claw

6. Preferred living space aesthetics?

going for in-universe aesthetics, not victorian and such

azug: she likes whiterun style. that’s why she still lives in the tundra homestead despite it being tiny for her and her two grown men besties

megana: she always loved the fuck off huge stone walls of the imperial city. she lives in myrwatch now, which has similar big stone but she tries to keep it cozy

antony: he likes chorrol but the house there is way too huge for him, he likes smaller places. just by my memory of the city houses i think bruma would be the best for him

7. How do they keep their living space?

azug: cluttered. stuff gets knocked over every time she goes home. she says her stuff is organized but she forgets how half the time

megana: mostly organized but how organized can a mage really be. her things have proper places but that doesn’t stop her from setting them down randomly

antony: organized. he doesn’t have the patience to be forgetting where he put stuff

8. Have they got any stuffed animals or other toys?

azug: when she was little she had a stuffed mud crab and now she thinks of it every time she sees one (she tries not to kill them)

megana: she doesn’t keep one, but when she finds dolls she sometimes take them to practice spells on (she thinks it’s funny). she also once sewed a shitty little stuffed carrot for thistle, who promptly tried to eat it, and it was confiscated

antony: no because he’s a little bitch
