The Magicians - Queer as Fanwork
Tumblr media
June is PRIDE month. And here at Queliot Events, we want you to give the characters of Magicians the Pride experience they deserve!
Tumblr media

We want the entire month of June to be about creating and celebrating all fanworks centered around Pride or the characters of The Magicians exploring their sexual orientations and/or their gender identities.
This event will be open to any works relevant to these themes from the show OR the books. It is open to all ships and all characters within the Magicians universe.
All sexuality and gender identity themes are welcome. We’d love to see fanworks revolving around the Magicians characters exploring their queerness beyond what may have been presented on screen/within the books.
This includes any sexual orientations beyond heterosexuality - such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, or asexual. These definitely do not encompass the full spectrum of sexuality but are merely examples.
This event also includes the characters exploring gender identities beyond cisgender labels assigned at birth. We encourage stories about the Magicians characters exploring any variety of trans+ experiences!
There is no need to stick to canon for this event - AUs are welcome and encouraged
A few possible prompts to get started:
A character goes to their first (or second or third) Pride in NYC.
A character has their first experience with gender expression/gender euphoria and realizes they may not identify with their gender assigned at birth.
A character comes out to their friends/family regarding her sexuality or gender identity.
Our hashtag for this event is #TMQueerAF and the collection will be open on AO3 from 06/01 - 06/30.
This event is open to fanfiction authors, gifset creators, fan artists, video editors, any and all creators are welcome. We can’t wait to see what alternate timelines you create!
There is no sign-up for this event—simply post your fics to AO3 under The Magicians Queer as Fanwork event. Any fanworks not posted to AO3 can be posted on Tumblr—tag us in the post and use the event hashtag, and we'll reblog it!

We are SO EXCITED for this event. Thank you so much for the support given to Queliot Events from the Magicians community, and for every piece of work created for these events. We have a blast reading/viewing every piece of fanwork, and it's a true pleasure seeing all of the passion the fandom still has for the magic show.

It's easy for Quentin to figure out that he's bi. It's not quite as straightforward to figure out why, most of the time, he doesn't seem to want anyone at all anyway.
And even when he has a word for it, even when he knows there's nothing actually wrong, the trouble of only being able to want under specific circumstances means knowing what to do about a crush on one of your best friends is even more daunting. Especially when it's not going away this time.
For @queliotevents Queer as Fanwork event!

The Four Crowns
The first submission to the Magicians Queer as Fanwork event! The Four Crowns by Schifaroo.
Read it here.

Eliot loves his job tending bar for the patrons of the Four Crowns Martini Bar and Grill, especially the night before Pride. He finds he especially loves it if Call for Jane is the cover band playing at the Four Crowns the night before Pride.

TMQueerAF - Rules + FAQ
We would like to keep this event as open as possible, and want everyone to have fun. However, we would like to set a few guidelines:
The intent of this collection is to create The Magicians fanworks that center around Pride, or any aspect of a character's sexual orientation or gender identity. If you wish to create a fanwork that does not deal with these aspects, or that centers only on heterosexuality or cisgender identities, you should still write it, but this collection is not the place for it.
We understand that everyone’s writing preferences are different, and encourage works of a variety of lengths. Still, we do ask that any submitted works are at least 1000 words, with no word cap limit.
We will not police what sort of content you are/are not allowed to write, but if you write any material that contains triggering content, you must tag it accordingly. The magicians is a show that has never shied away from difficult subject matter, and this fandom as a whole does an incredible job tackling those same subjects in fanwork. However, we reserve the right to reject any works that handle certain subjects tastelessly. Please reach out to us if you have any specific content questions.
FAQ
1. Are any ships off limits for this event?
This event is not limited to only Queliot media. Feel free to create any media for any ship or character. As long as it’s related to The Magicians book or TV show, go for it!
If you have any additional questions, or concerns specific to your work, we’re available any time. Please DM the page or send an ask. These rules and faq will be updated as needed. thank you.
2. Can I write about heterosexual ships at all?
Yes! Straight-passing ships are welcome, but we do want the focus to be on LGBTQIA+ identities, which can happen in a number of relationship configurations. So straight-passing ships are welcome! For example, if one or more members of the ship are queer, trans, or exploring their gender identity, or if you want to write about a scenario like Quentin and Alice going to Pride and celebrating their mutual bisexuality, have at it!
