Sunriver Cocoa Cow Milk Stout
Bend, Oregon (April 2017) Sunriver Brewing Company is releasing 500ml reserve series bottles.
...
Cocoa Cow is one Sunriver Brewing’s most sought after beers. It has won three People’s Choice Awards at three different brewfests in the last two years, KLCC in Eugene Oregon, McKenzie Brewfest in Springfield Oregon, and most recently at Bend Brewfest in Bend Oregon last summer. It also just received a bronze medal at the Oregon Beer Awards in the combined flavored beer category.
“I’m always humbled when I see our customers demanding Cocoa Cow. We brewed a three barrel batch of this beer on our pilot system back in 2015 and people went nuts for it.” Says Brett Thomas, Head Brewer. “Cow is just this interesting mix of dark malts, cocoa nibs and milk sugar, and is actually an homage to my father. He was a highly respected food scientist in the 1970s, working for years at M&M Mars, and later in his career consulting for Hershey, Nestle and others. There was always something chocolate related going on when I was growing up – it was his passion, much like craft beer is mine.
...
about Sunriver Brewing Company -
Sunriver Brewing Company’s pub in the Village at Sunriver opened to rave reviews in the summer of 2012. Recognizing that the original pub would not accommodate demand, a 13,000 square foot building was purchased in the Business Park at Sunriver where in 2014, the company sold 926 barrels of beer. Since then, the brewery has expanded several times and sold almost 5,000 barrels in 2016. Talented head brewer, Brett Thomas, prides himself on making the highest quality beer. Since 2014, Sunriver Brewing Company has garnered 9 national/international awards including three gold, three silver and one bronze at the North American Beer Awards (NABA), a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and a gold medal at the World Beer Cup. In February of 2016, Sunriver opened its second pub location on Galveston Avenue in Bend Oregon.

More sunrise shots in #Sunriver Oregon. Here I'm in front of @sunriverbrewing as the #sun is breaking and creating that rad #light effect off the glass. Sunriver Brewing is responsible for more than a few disagreements in my house regarding ownership of their decadently delicious Cocoa Cow Milk Stout. 😋 (at Sunriver Brewing Co.)

Sunriver Brewing Company announces their 2021 plans, including new cans and new Cocoa Cow variants.
With nerves frayed, we cross the first day of February and arrive at Groundhog Day. Much like the film of the same name, 2021 feels like we’ve been here before. Thankfully, Oregon brewery Sunriver Brewing Company has some fresh ideas in store for the new decade.
Taking a moment to review everything that Sunriver has in store for 2021, we see an updated look for their cans, several new seasonal releases, an evolving list of Hazy India Pale Ales, Double India Pale Ales, and regular India Pale Ales. Also, there is a new Winter seasonal and five Cocoa Cow variants with flavors like S'Mores, Mocha, and Cherry Vanilla.

Starting in February (aka, now), the brewery releases Clearview West Coast IPA, in 12-ounce cans. If the name sounds familiar, then you’ve stopped by one of their taprooms in Bend, Sunriver, or Eugene. Ok, and maybe at some random bars throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Clearview West Coast IPA. Clearview West Coast IPA. is the latest brew in our never-ending quest to develop the finest IPA. New school in design, Clearview offers the perfect balance of citrus, tropical and resinous hop character. This IPA is bright in appearance, bold in flavor, and has a clean, dry finish. Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Sultana, Summit ABV: 6.8% IBU: 65.
Besides Clearview, look for the following beers spread out quarterly.
Rivermark Pilsner. Summer 2021. Rivermark Pilsner is our interpretation of the world’s original pale lager. Perfectly balanced, this Czech-style  pilsner hits all the right spots. Bready malt flavors mingle with a spicy and floral hop character. This beer is light on  the palate and perfectly crisp. Hops: Nugget, Mt. Hood, Czech Saaz. 5% ABV 30 IBU
Pop Demand Hazy IPA. Fall 2021.  Pop Demand Hazy IPA is the culmination of years of Sunriver Brewing experimenting with this modern  interpretation of IPA. Pop has a lush, pillowy body and a complex, fruit forward hop character. Big juicy notes of  mango, melon, berries, and limeade abound in this hazy brew. Hops: Mosaic, Azacca, Cashmere. 6.5% ABV 40 IBU.
For the brewery they couldn’t be more pleased with the new recipes as part of this relaunch of their canned offerings. Revisiting the progress, Brett Thomas, Sunriver Brewing’s  Director of Brewing Operations had this to share.
The brewing team has been working for months perfecting the recipes for these new canned beers. All three  entries in this year’s rotator series are exceptionally balanced, flavorful and well-crafted. I’m especially proud of Rivermark Pilsner - it takes a light hand in the brewhouse  and lots of expertise in the cellars to create such a delicate beer. We’re really excited to share the culmination of  our efforts with all of our Sunriver Brewing fans.
Like the ‘27 Yankees, the year-round lineup remains unchanged
Sunriver Brewing Company and its talented brewing team take great pride in providing consistent quality craft beer for your enjoyment year-round. Our flagship products have all received top national and regional awards for their respective category.
Just like 2020, Sunriver Brewing Company remains committed to supplying your favorite SBC beers you expect. This series, commonly associated with the term ‘flagship’ is designed for those looking for something reliable. With that said, here they are once again, as they appeared in years past.

We break down Sunriver Brewing Company's 2020 release calendar, so you don't have to.
Only a handful of days remain before 2019 takes its exit before 2020 enters. In its wake, 2019 takes not only the year in review but also the decade. That hasn’t stopped award-winning brewery, Sunriver Brewing Company, from strategizing for 202 with a lineup of beers that rivals those from 2019. So consider the following upcoming releases as part of your next grocery trip or, for the fortunate ones, your next trip to Sunriver Brewing Company.
Year Round *unless indicated, available in 12-ounce cans and draft.
Except for Deseo Mexican Lager, Sunriver Brewing Company is ensuring your favorite, year-round releases are available on draft or at your nearest bottle shop and grocery store. What this means is that fans of Fuzztail, Rippin, Vicious Mosquito, Cocoa Cow, or the newly indoctrinated Deseo; can enjoy more of what you like. Breaking it down, here are brief descriptions, ABV (alcohol by volume) and IBU (international bittering units) if this is your first time introduced to Sunriver Brewing Company.
Fuzztail Hefeweizen.5%. 20 IBU
Fuzztail is an American style hefeweizen that’s light and easy drinking, yet compelling.  A hand selected blend of NW hops give this hazy wheat beer a crisp citrus finish with notes of grapefruit and lemon.  This brew can be summed up in one word….refreshing.
Rippin Northwest Ale.6%. 50 IBU
Amazing dank hop flavor of an ipa, but the easy drinking nature of a pale ale is the greatness behind this ambiguous brew. Hefty whirlpool additions of citra, mosaic and amarillo® hops make this unique ale burst with ripe tropical fruit, freshly squeezed citrus and resinous pine. The finish is distinctly clean, crisp and hoppy, with a restrained bitterness.
Vicious Mosquito. 7%. 70 IBU
“Vicious” is Sunriver Brewing Company’s flagship West Coast styled India Pale Ale. The heavy handed use of the finest Northwest hops define this pungent, resinous brew. This hop attack is coming at you like the vicious mosquitos at our nearby Cascade Mountains.
Cocoa Cow Chocolate Milk Stout *only available on draft and in 16-ounce cans. 7%. 28 IBU
The Cocoa Cow is our interpretation of a classic milk stout but with the addition of roasted Ghana cocoa nibs.  Milk sugar and caramel malt build the rich, full body of this brew, with mild roasted notes coming from two varieties of chocolate malt.  Have some dessert today - just make sure it's served in a glass!
Deseo Mexican Lager *only available on draft
New from 2019, Sunriver Brewing Company is organizing their limited releases into three series; Haze Factory (a blend of Hazy India Pale Ales) and  Also Limited (composed of West Coast-style India Pale Ales, Fruit beers, and garden beers), and Double IPA Factory.
We love hops, plain and simple.  Sunriver Brewing Company has cultivated years of relationships with hop growers.  We walk the hop fields each fall and then hand-select only the finest Pacific Northwest varieties.  The end result of this process is presented in our limited release IPAs and double IPAs.
Breaking it down here's what you have to look forward to in 2020.
Haze Factory *available in both draft and 16-ounce cans
As part of a three-part, limited-edition series of releases; Sunriver Brewing Company is happy to release 12 Hazy India Pale Ales. If you're of the mind, there are 12 months in the year, then you're on the right track regarding how frequently the brewery will release a unique Hazy IPA. Details are scant but the brewery has confirmed the following names, in order of release, starting January 2020 and concluding December 2020:
Next Level, Emotional Support Peacock, Popular Demand, Formerly Known As, Everything's Right, Hugs and Flip Flops, The Life Above, Hawaiian Haze, Turtle In The Clouds, Zero Hour, Secret Galaxy Flight, and Vermont Vacation.
When comparing 2019's breakout IPA Factory series, we see the carry-over from 2019 are:
Emotional Support Peacock. 7%. 40 IBU. *2019
This hazy juice bomb delivers a brilliant display of tropical hop character. Vibrant notes of passionfruit, melon, citrus and papaya leap from this brew. HOPS: Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado, Citra Cryo, Mosaic Cryo
Hawaiian Haze.6.4%. 48 IBU. *2019
This POG inspired hazy IPA combines barley, malted wheat and flaked oats with an abundance of juicy hops. The end result is smooth, easy drinking and ridiculously tropical.  HOPS: Galaxy, Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, Lotus Other Ingredients: Passionfruit, Tangerine, Guava
Vermont Vacation.6.8%. 40 IBU *2019
This hazy IPA combines barley, malted wheat and flaked oats with an abundance of juicy hops. A distinctly hoppy brew, Vermont throws a lush melon character, with background notes of citrus and pineapple. HOPS: Citra, Huell Melon, El Dorado, Sultana
Double IPA Factory *only on draft
Back from 2019, the Double IPA Factory pays homage to both hazy and West Coast-style Double India Pale Ales. Breaking it down and in order, look for the following six releases, with a different one released two months after the previous. Note, we have provided the descriptions, ABV (alcohol by volume), and IBU of any releases which have been carried over to 2020 from 2019.
Thunderstruck
Resin Nation West Coast Double India Pale. 8.5%. 100 IBU. *2019
We brought the big guns to this resinous party - Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic hops all make a big appearance.  This double IPA is hopped to the max with layers of earthy pine oil, dank tropical fruit, fresh citrus and blueberries.  A moderately malty backbone supports hopping rates of nearly 8 pounds per barrel.
Parkes and Wreck Hazy Double India Pale Ale. 8.2%. 70 IBU. *2019
This big, hazy brew is an homage to Steve Parkes, instructor at the American Brewers Guild. Parkes and Wreck is brewed with British pale malt, Barbarian ale yeast and a ton of juicy, dank hops.
8th Anniversary
Tangible Power
Mele Kalikimaka
Also Limited *avaialble on draft only
Finally, the brewery is set to release the following Pale Ales, India Pale Ales, and Winter Ales; as part of the brands Also Limited series. Look for the following, in order starting in January, each month throughout 2020.
Keep Oregon Green IPA, Cryosaurus IPA, Howdy! IPA, T'Rippin Tangerine NW Pale Ale, Missing Link IPA, Electric Avenue Session IPA, Sounds Like Summer Garden Ale, Bondi Beach Party Pale Ale, Green Initiative Fresh Hop IPA, D'Kine Fresh Hop IPA, Shred Winter Ale, and Cousin Eddie's Leisure Suit IPA.
Of those in the list, the following were released in 2019.
Green Initiative Fresh Hop IPA. 6.5%. 55 IBU. *2019
Strata is a recent graduate of the OSU Aroma Hop Breeding Program. Formerly OR-X331, Strata throws intense flavors of passionfruit, candied grapefruit, strawberry and cannabis.
D'Kine Fresh Hop IPA.6.5%. 60 IBU *2019
This fresh hop IPA uses over 100 pounds of fresh Mosaic hops provided by our friends at B.T. Loftus Ranches in Yakima, WA.  These unique "wet" hops provide layers of tropical fruit, citrus, salted blueberry and earthy-pine flavors.  Enjoy this once a year hop harvest brew!

Sunriver Brewing reacts to 4 medals at NABA, announces expansion, and distribution into Idaho
Press Release
Bend, Oregon (June 2017) Sunriver Brewing Company is just finishing up their brewery’s biggest expansion to date. The project that broke ground in December of 2016 will increase brewing capacity from 6,000 barrels to almost 13,000 barrels per year.
The expansion included doubling the size of the cellar, bringing in a new canning line and upgrading the brewhouse. The new brewhouse is a 15 barrel, four vessel, semi-automated system from JV Northwest. This upgrade will allow Sunriver Brewing to produce twice as much volume as their previous brewhouse in close to the same time.
“We are very excited to include construction of a lab to aid in our QC processes along with a substantial upgrade to our brewery wastewater processing equipment.” says Brett Thomas, Head Brewer. “One of the most exciting areas of the expansion was a build out of a dedicated farmhouse ale and sour barrel production room that is climate controlled and completely isolated from the rest of the facility.”
To coincide with the expansion, in June Sunriver Brewing will be launching distribution in Idaho. The brewery has partnered with the much respected CSB Beverage for distribution. Below is a list of a few launch events going on during this first week of Sunriver Brewing beer in Idaho.
June 13th: Bier:Thirty Bottle & Bistro, Boise ID ~ 6pm-9pm
June 14th: Bittercreek Alehouse, Boise ID ~ 6pm-9pm
June 15th: Anchor Bistro, Twin Falls ID ~ 6pm-9pm
As coincidence would have it, last weekend Sunriver Brewing came home with four medals at the North American Beer Awards. This, just in the same timing that the finalized expansion and Idaho launch are taking place. Here are the awards that Sunriver Brewing Company won.
GOLD – Electric Avenue Session IPA (category: Session Beer IPA) GOLD – Mexican Lager (category: Latin American or Tropical-Style Lager or Ale) BRONZE – Cocoa Cow Chocolate Milk Stout (category: Chocolate Cocoa Beers) BRONZE – Big Willie Belgian Strong Pale Ale (Belgian-Style Pale/Golden Strong Ale)

Sunriver Brewing releases the 500ml reserve series, starting with Chocoa Cow and Motorhead Black Barleywine
Bend, Oregon (April 2017) Sunriver Brewing Company is releasing 500ml reserve series bottles. The first two available starting this week are Cocoa Cow Chocolate Milk Stout and Motorhead Black Barleywine.
Motorhead Black Barleywine is a newer beer that combines the robust malt flavor of a barleywine, but with a big resinous hop profile. This beer is great for the reserve series that is dated on the label, knowing that its complexity will change over time. A beer meant for vertical tastings over the years.
“When brewing Motorhead we wanted to brew something big, dark and relatively hoppy as well as something that aged well. A black barleywine seemed to fit those specs, and Motorhead was born. This beer is fairly complex. When young, it can be boozy and really hoppy, with this impressively big herbal-dank and grapefruit-pine character. As it ages, the alcohol character quickly fades, the hops mellow, and it becomes this complex, well rounded sipping beer."
