on this day, 30 years ago, my hometown and the city I love immensely and wholeheartedly was liberated from Georgian aggressors. September 27, 1993 - the day of the Liberation of Sukhum (from Georgian invaders), - is the day I will always remember from my grandmother's stories of faint hope and fear, still prevailing. if anyone wants to read more about this day in the history of Georgian-Abkhaz War of 1992-1993, you can do so here:

Ruins of the sanatorium "Gulripsh" of Nikolai Nikolaevich Smetsky.
The ruins of two pre-revolutionary buildings of the Gulripsh tuberculosis sanatorium are located near the highway 10 km southeast of Sukhum. In 1913, Smetsky built a four-story Red building of 112 rooms with 250 seats. At that time this building was the largest in Abkhazia. Nearby there was a huge garden where coconuts, agaves, and acacias grew. There is a funny legend about this building. Allegedly, Smetsky’s wife herself was sick with tuberculosis, and from one doctor he heard advice: make sure that every night she sleeps in a new place where the air is clear of bacilli. For this purpose, a house-palace of 365 rooms was built, which helped the woman recover.
In 1914, Smetsky donated the Red Corps to the Red Cross for the treatment of war invalids. The White Building was transferred to the Ministry of Education in 1916 for the treatment of teachers and students. In 1922, the palaces were nationalized and a sanatorium named after Lenin was built in them.
Вот как эти строения выглядели раньше, архивные фото.
This is what these ruins looked like before, archival photos.

Pamela Sukhum used to be a researcher in Cardiovascular Health and Electrophysiolog but she left the biomedical field in 2003 to pursue her true passion: painting. She is an avid traveller and has been everywhere, from refugee camps in Africa to the monasteries of Tibet. Her paintings are full of warmth, colour and texture and enjoyed by those who like all "game of flowers".

Two Biryulyovskaya Line Metro Stations, Moscow
Two Biryulyovskaya Line Metro Stations Moscow, Russian Capital Subway Building Design, Contemporary Architecture
Two New Moscow Metro Stations
22 May 2022
71 Companies To Take Part In The Competition To Create Designs Of Two New Moscow Metro Stations
146 applicants from 36 countries registered to take part in this architectural competition
The deadline for the international competition to develop the architectural appearance of the Ostrov Mechty and Zagorye metro stations of the Biryulyovskaya line has passed.
Two New Moscow Metro Station Buildings
The architecture competition is being held with support from the Moscow government and Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow. The competition is being organized by Mosinzhproekt Group of Companies, the main designer and general contractor of Moscow metro development programs. Agency for Strategic Development CENTER is the competition operator.
The quality and feasibility of the projects will be assessed by a professional jury chaired by Andrey Bochkaryov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Urban Planning Policy and Construction. The jury also includes Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, Yuri Kravtsov, CEO of Mosinzhproekt JSC, Viktor Kozlovskiy, Head of the Moscow Metro, as well as leading Russian and foreign specialists in architecture, design, and urban planning.
Andrey Bochkaryov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Government of Moscow on Urban Development Policy and Construction, said acceptance of applications to participate in the development of the architectural appearance of the Ostrov Mechty and Zagorye metro stations of the Biryulyovskaya line has closed. “In total, we received 63 applications from 71 companies. On May 20, we will choose ten finalists (five in each category), who will go on in the second stage of the competition, where they will offer their vision of the future stations,” said Andrey Bochkarev.
Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, Deputy President of the Jury: “I want to congratulate everyone on the completion of a key stage of the competition. We received plenty of applications from various countries, and if anyone was expecting competition to decrease, I have to say it’s not worth counting on that. The teams are absolutely impressive. We met many familiar names who had already participated in subway station design competitions, which means they have relevant experience. There are also very young bureaus that will surely surprise you with their fresh and extraordinary ideas.”
Yury Kravtsov, CEO of Mosinzhproekt JSC, clarified that 146 applicants from 36 cities registered to take part in the competition. “The competition aroused wide interest in the architectural community. We received so many applications that we now have no doubt that the Ostrov Mechty and Zagorye metro stations will look vibrant and fresh. Jury members will select the very best from the many applications received. Residents and guests of Moscow already have the opportunity to see the projects of past competitions, successfully implemented by engineers and builders. Now the creators of the Biryulyovskaya line will have a chance to bring new artistic ideas, innovative materials and technologies to their project. The main thing is that the result of work from the architects, designers and builders will be used by a huge number of people every day.”
The list of participants includes 7 consortia and 56 individual contestants. Most of the applicants are from 11 regions of Russia. The leader in terms of the number of companies is Moscow – 45, followed by St. Petersburg – 12, Nizhny Novgorod – two, one each from Vladivostok, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Domodedovo Moscow Region, Yekaterinburg, Kaluga, Rostov-on-Don, Yakutsk and Yaroslavl. Companies from Tashkent, Sukhum and Riga will also take part in the competition.
Applicants had to provide a relevant portfolio of projects and an essay describing the key ideas of their architectural and artistic designs for the stations.
About the competition sites
Ostrov Mechty is a future transfer station with Technopark station of the Zamoskvoretskaya line. The project includes an elevated walkway with travelators, two lobbies and exits to Prospect Andropova and the Ostrov Mechty Entertainment Park, as well as to existing and future residential, business, and public buildings and surface passenger transport stops. The station complex will be located on a section of the subsurface metro line. The design calls for two single-track tunnels to approach the station, resulting in the station being designed with a single island transfer platform. Due to the depth of the access tunnels, the station and one lobby will be located predominately underground. The station’s other lobby will be above ground. The underground zone includes a pedestrian crossing, one lobby, and the passenger platform. The second, above-ground lobby will include an elevated walkway (bridge) to Technopark station, ventilation ducts, and stairways and elevators with entrance halls with access to the surface.
Zagorye is a future station located along Lipetskaya Street. The station will have two lobbies, northern and southern. The southern concourse will have exits at the intersection of Lebedyanskaya Street and Lipetskaya Street. Both lobbies will have exits to Lipetskaya Street, which is adjacent to the Tsaritsyno natural-historical park. The station complex will be located on a section of the subsurface metro line. According to the design, one dual-track tunnel will approach the station, resulting in the station being designed with two transfer platforms. Due to the depth of access tunnel, the whole station will be located underground. The underground zone will feature pedestrian crossings, lobbies, and the passenger platforms. Only the ventilation ducts and stairways/elevators with entrance halls will have access to the surface.
