I stumbled on this book in 1975.
Nine years prior, Alton Kelley literally lifted (pocket knife) the lithograph from a copy in the SF Public Library, rare book collection. Kelley and Stanley (Mouse) Miller used it in the famous Avalon Ballroom concert poster.

Lots of great quatrains about life and death, and many great illustrations.
Great condition. Published nearly 90 years ago.
Make an offer.

Artist Research
Stanley Mouse
This graphic design artist, Stanley Mouse, is likely most well-known for having designed the album cover for the band Journey's 1981 'Escape' music album. His work with music artists, such as The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and the Beatles, feature unique fonts and interesting color schemes. In the image, a strange and interesting font that looks almost alien-like and style features a space ship and planet design in vibrant but grainy colors, making it very appropriate for the era. He's a designer that millions of people, including myself, love the work of because of how he can capture the soul of an artist's music and translate it into an effective image. In the workshop this week, I learned that what makes a good graphic designer is someone who can translate meaning into image for a client.

Artist Stanley Mouse Suffers “Debilitating Stroke”
- “He is working on recovering but is unsure if he will regain the ability to draw again”
Artist Stanley Mouse - whose work has graced albums and concert posters for everyone from the Grateful Dead to Moonalice - has suffered a “debilitating stroke” that may have ended his career, per a statement on his social media pages.
“He is working on recovering but is unsure if he will regain the ability to draw again,” it reads. “He would like to thank all of the people who have shown him support and love throughout his long career as an artist.”
Mouse, 82, began making posters for San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom in 1966 with partner Alton Kelley. The Grateful Dead, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller Band, Journey, Styx and Moonalice subsequently became some of his many clients.
“Please keep Stanley Mouse in your thoughts and hearts,” Moonalice said in a statement.

LADY GAGA WEARS RE/DONE, BOTTEGA & MORE
Lady Gaga made waves as she stepped out for some lunch at Zinqué in Malibu yesterday (January 8th), arm in arm with her beau Michael.
Tumblr media
What caught my eye about Gaga’s recent style evolution is her knack for revisiting fashion from yesteryears. Case in point: RE/DONE, a brand she embraced back in 2016.
Gaga chose to grace the streets in the Warthead long-sleeved tee, donned in a sophisticated dark grey wash ($275). What sets this piece apart is the captivating illustration courtesy of the legendary Stanley Mouse.
Shop:
RE/DONE "Warthead" Tee ($275.00)

Hold onto your fashion hats because Gaga’s style saga in Malibu just got a shade cooler. As my style radar continued its relentless sweep, it couldn’t miss the glamorous addition perched on her nose.
Behold, the Oliver Peoples Oliver Sun sleek wayfarer-shaped black acetate sunglasses with polarized tinted lenses ($584).

Oliver Peoples "Oliver Sun" Sunglasses ($584.00)

We can also spot her favorite Jackson Hole Jewelry Co. Teton diamond on 14k yellow-gold zig-zag stackable ring.

As I played fashion detective, there’s another style tidbit that caught my eagle eye – a chic addition to her ensemble.
Not just content with revisiting and reinventing, Gaga had a sleek surprise up her sleeve – or should I say, in her hands. Spotting a new wallet in her clutches, Gaga opted for the Bottega Veneta Intreccio woven black lambskin and calfskin zip-around wallet with gold-tone hardware, priced at a cool $1,000.

Gaga isn’t just revisiting, she’s reinventing fashion déjà vu.
Adding another layer to her fashion chronicles, Gaga strutted in her beloved Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2016 Candy chunky black leather platform boots. These gems peeked out from underneath her 70s-style straight jeans, giving the ensemble a dash of vintage flair with a contemporary twist.
