"Murray's character in 3 is so so important to me. I don't care what people say about 2 being the best of the trilogy; 3 easily had the best character dynamics. Murray's growth into being deeply emotionally intelligent and more mature is something that so many people look over and it's such a shame. Did we forget that he was literally the one to talk down Bentley during his crisis of faith in 3's climax and get him to come to terms that helping their friend was more important than personal glory?"

(Personally, I think the mere fact that he left the gang to "find his spiritual center" after what transpires in 2 speaks volumes. ~Mod)

How the first Sly Cooper game ruined Clockwerk for me.
So the title might be a bit weird. How can a first game ruin a character you only just met? Well, let me explain.
I've always been a big fan of the Sly games, but the very first Sly game I ever played was Sly 2. I didn't actually ever play the first game until just recently. In Sly 2 Clockwerk isn't actually technically a character himself. Meaning, you don't fight him like you do in the first game. He's actually already dead, but he's still a major part of the second game and you're collecting parts of his body throughout the game. Things like his heart, his tail feathers, and other things.
Not just that, but throughout the entire game they're constantly talking about Clockwerk, talking about how bad he is. Even talking to the boss characters telling them they have no idea what they have because even in death these body parts are still just that dangerous. Heck, Clockwerk even manages to paralyze Bentley in this game. So yea, they really try to make it very clear that he is an intimidating person and should never be taken lightly, even if he's dead.
Then we go back to the first game. In Sly 2 Clockwerk, to my knowledge, was never really said to have been working in a team, so I thought it was kind of weird seeing him with a team of other people, but it wasn't all that odd and I just ignored it. For most of the game they did a pretty good job of building up to Clockwerk. They kept that intimidation factor that Sly 2 has, maybe not as good as Sly 2, but it's still there. But then we get to the actual fight and it's all thrown right out the window.
Clockwerk is hilariously not intimidating at all. He acts almost like a cliche Bond villain or something. No hate to the voice actor, but when I think of what Clockwerk sounds like it is not that at all. I genuinely think that Sly 2's version of Clockwerk is the best version and Sly 1 is just goofy.

You Should Play: Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Show your bling and let me shine you!Making a sequel, to anything, is tough. On the one hand, the temptation to cohere to the same core elements entirely is always there – but on the other, there is an intuitive sense that some reinvention is expected, if not necessary. Sly 2: Band of Thieves is one of those rare games that manages to not only grow the seeds planted in the first game, but find a…

"I wish the real Clockwerk "woke up" at some point in Sly 2 and that even if Neyla still tried to take Clockwerk's body for her own that Clockwerk would have taken control back and we could have actually heard them fighting for control. Like imagine the terror Neyla would feel once Clockwerk woke back up and she realizes her life is in more danger now than ever before."

The hallmark of PS2 platformers was a game's ability to deny the reality of their subject matter so much that they'll replace alcohol with lemonade like a 4Kids edit, while also having main characters overtly call each other's mothers' sluts multiple times.

The Sly Cooper Gang! (Sly, Bentley + The MURRAY!) by Mast3r-Rainb0w
I truly miss this legendary franchise I grew up with so dearly, and I hope one day it makes a proper comeback. Plus, I wanted to make some fanart for the main cast. The gang's all here! Enjoy!
