Cautionary Tale: the story of Shrikepollen is used to warn queens not to lean to favourtism during tough times, and that sometimes doing anything for your kit isn’t always right
Story:
Shrikepollen had a rough childhood, but her mother tried her best. Due to the small size of the clan, Shrikekit was often left alone in the nursery for hours on end and grew up quite isolated.
The few times she tried to play with her Clanmates, they pushed her away saying they had work to do. Shrikepaw grew bitter, and vowed to make sure her future kits had a better kithood than she had.
Her mother passed, and Shrikepollen felt guilty for not grieving much. While the cats around her grieved the loss, she threw herself into hunting and grew into one of the top warriors in her Clan. Falconstar, her aunt, didn’t direct much attention towards her and she was quite satisfied that her Clanmates could never use that against her. It was a fact that she had earned her status fairly.
Gingernose, a large stocky tom with russet-orange fur was one of the Clan’s best hunters and the two were often paired up on hunting missions. With few kits born each year, the clan was ecstatic when she announced that they were having kits.
It was a tough leaf-bare, and when Shrikepollen gave birth to five gorgeous kits, the camp buzzed with a new energy. EmberKit, FlintKit, SparkKit, and MothKit were all born perfectly healthy, with FlintKit being the strongest of the litter.
TinyKit was born blind and deaf, and was sacrificed to the SharpTooth Spirits at the sharp stones. Despite this being a common thing, Gingernose was devastated at the loss of his young son and stopped eating. He refused to hunt and snapped at most cats who tried to speak with him.
Shrikepollen didn’t understand this, having it been a typical thing growing up for kits to be sacrificed, and they rarely spoke after that.
A plague of starvation and greencough spread through the Clan, claiming many lives. When her kits were nearly two moons old, Shrikepollen was tasked with burying her former mate.
With her kits growing thinner by the day, she led them out to the grave one night and asked them to close their eyes. She dug his body out of the deep snow, slicing a chunk of flesh out with her claws before covering the body once more. Her kits ate well that night, and for many days after.
However, Gingernose had been a small cat, and with her kits growing she needed more food for them. Sparkkit was loud and rambunctious, and Shrikepollen decided she wouldn’t be a good warrior out in the cliffs.
She pressed her paws down on the kit's throat while everyone was sleeping, and let out a devastated yowl in the morning that Sparkkit had died in her sleep. Blinking back tears, Shrikepollen insisted on burying the kit herself. She dug a small grave, a large grin on her face.
Clan life continued on like usual, and her kits had an extra meal the next two nights.
MothKit was next. He was far too sensitive anyway, she thought as she suffocated him.
The Clan grew antsy. Her remaining two kits were treated well, and Shrikepollen was satisfied for now. Not long after, Emberkit caught greencough and passed in her sleep. At this she was truly shocked, and grieved deeply for her daughter.
Flintkit stuck by her side all day, and at five moons old he was still very thin. She felt bad as he unknowingly ate his sisters flesh. But she was saving him, wasn’t she?
Cloverclaw grew suspicious of Flintkit’s plump belly as her own kit died, and followed the pair and watched as Shrikepollen dug up a fresh grave. She scrambled away in the thick snow, rushing back to camp to tell Falconstar what she had seen.
Shrikepollen gave chase, Flintkit following in confusion. When they arrived at camp, Cloverclaw had already told everyone what Shrikepollen had done. As the Clan turned hateful and disgusted looks towards her, she let out a yowl and threw herself at Cloverclaw.
The two went rolling off the cliffs, and the last thing Shrikepollen heard was Flintkit yelling out to her as the two queens slammed into a boulder.
Additional Information:
--Falconstar was horrified after this, and took Flintkit—later Flintstripe—as her apprentice.
--Flintstripe grew incredibly quiet after this, preferring not to speak in general.
--Shrikepollen genuinely believed she made the right decision, even after death.

--I like the name ‘Shrikepollen.’ Also her story of feeding other cats to her kits rather than just herself is an interesting twist.
--She has a near-permanent scowl and dull green eyes. Later in life she was very scrawny, her ribs jutting out at all times.

Short story: ShrikePollen & her kits
“Where are we going, mama?” FlintKit asked, tripping over SparkKit’s paws.
His sister batted at him playfully, and he knocked into MothKit while trying to push her back.
MothKit let out an indignant squeak, scrambling under his mothers paws.
“We’re going to get a super secret meal, but you can’t tell anyone, okay?” ShrikePollen said playfully, sniffing the air as she turned them farther away from camp.
It was dark, and she picked up Emberkit as she started to get distracted, the kit letting out an indignant squeak.
FlintKit followed, right beside his mother as he ignored his siblings. A secret? What kind of secret?
ShrikePollen stopped the kits at a snow heap, picking them each up by the scruff and putting them in a line.
The four shivering kits leaned against each other for warmth, looking up at their mother through innocent eyes.
“I need you all to turn around and close your eyes until I tell you to open them.” She said sternly, and the kits did as she asked.
ShrikePollen turned back towards the snow heap, pouncing into it with her large paws as it crunched underfoot. She kicked it away, digging until she found fur.
The ginger fur was soaked and cold, but she purred anyway. She continued to dig up the body, listening to her kits as they whispered behind her trying to guess what she was doing. She paused when she uncovered GingerNose’s head, the unfocused glazed eyes staring right at her.
Her pelt prickled, and she kicked snow back over the head and slammed her claws into her former mates shoulder. Carving out a chunk of flesh, she held it in her jaws as the thick blood clumped around her mouth and dripped down her throat. Covering the body once more, she kicked the bloodied snow off the cliffs edge.
“Open your eyes,” She mewed, and the kits all turned around with a gasp.
The four kits pushed eachother out of the way, FlintKit eventually ending up ontop of his brother’s head while trying to reach the delicious-smelling meat.
ShrikePollen laughed, dropping the food down in front of them and watched as they dug in.

Story:
Patchspring was a respectful warrior, but she had no friends or family. Born a rogue, she was brought into the Clan and later lost her foster mother to greencough.
She was always quite a solitary cat and when she retired, she was happy to finally have a den all to herself. It was perfect, really. She got all the alone time she needed and didn’t have to do any work. Well, it was until she had to stay in the medicine den for a moon to recover from a sickness.
Cloudfang was such a weak cat, and her kits were born even weaker. Patchspring wouldn’t have cared if the kits didn’t have to stay in the medicine den with her.
Now having four unruly kits and a medicine cat in the den with her was far too much. She had to do something! After all, she deserved a good rest before her time to join Starclan.
Poor Bluekit, suffocated in her sleep, her windpipe crushed. Everyone grieved, but the kit was young. They’d get over it.
Except it backfired on Patchspring, and now Cloudfang spent all her time in the medicine den, fussing over her remaining kits. HawkKit was next. He was more difficult now that he was older, but he was easy enough to convince him to follow her outside camp in the middle of the night.
Tossing the small kit into the creek, she held his head under easily until he stopped thrashing. He was found on patrol the next day, and it was assumed the adventurous kit had snuck out to explore.
It was better, now. The remaining two kits and their mother moved back to the nursery, and aside from the shy medicine cat, Patchspring was finally alone again.
For the first week, things were great--until the kits were allowed to enter the medicine den without any good reason at all! Constantly talking, asking for stories, running around. She barely got any sleep now, and nearing the end of her life, she decided this just wouldn’t do.
Frondkit and Heatherkit happened to overdose on catmint. It was a tragedy, really. When Frondkit looked up at her while she was on the brink of death, Patchspring felt a pang of regret. These kits had such a great future ahead of them.
Didn’t FrondKit want to be a medicine cat?
When the kits went still, their bodies cooling, Patchspring pulled some deathberries from the medicine shelf. It was difficult to stay quiet while grabbing them, having to knock multiple herbs out of the way to reach them at the back of the shelf.
She curled up around the kits and stuffed the deathberries into her half-eaten mouse.
Patchspring was found dead not long after, along with the kits. Her clanmates assumed that she was overcome with grief at the tragic accident with the kits, and poisoned herself.
In the dark forest, she avoids all kits and spends most of her time alone on the edges of the forest.

How my characters appear in the dark forest!
CandyKit + possibly fadingflea kits : Kits born in the dark forest have paler, cloudy eyes
FishKit, FrostKit, MoleKit, FungiChomp - crushed by log - unnaturally bent spine with slivers of wood sticking out of it
TawnyKit - deathberries - from time spent in the pit, her fur is always painfully matted and she constantly feels cold
PinenutKit, JellyKit - drowning - soaked to the bone, always short of breath
BrownMouse - adder, heart and kidney failure, seizures - swollen back leg wiry venom dripping from it, cloudy and dilated eyes, feels like he’s in cardiac arrest, frothing at the mouth (he carries moss around to soak it up)
HollyKit - adder - swollen back leg, venom drips from it and burns her skin
PatchSpring - deathberries - mouth frothing at the corners
GoblinSnap - blunt force trauma, impaled through brain, paw skinned, eye torn out, broken neck - a branch through the brain that used to connect him to GremlinFrost, which was snapped so they could walk freely. Paw is completely mangled, neck hangs limply at the side, eye is attached by a string.
GremlinFrost - blunt force trauma, impaled through brain, leg skinned - leg skin hangs off of his flesh, branch through the brain that used to connect him to GoblinSnap, which was snapped so they could walk freely.
ShrikePollen - impalement - very, very scrawny and a stone spike impaled in her chest
CloudFang - broken neck - broken neck and a large bloody cut above her eyes
FleaThistle - ripped apart by fox - paws stained with blood, was ripped apart after killed, was shaken to death, claw marks down his spine
HoneyPudding - drowning, broken neck, strangled, blood loss - mangrove roots wrapped around legs, pelt skinned from her back with a root pressing into her spine, neck twisted and blood dripping from back of skull
LionCatch - blunt force from falling - blood on the back of his skull with bone visible, broken front leg twisted outwards
TurtleStepper - blunt force from falling - blood on the back of his skull with bone visible
WhiteHeart - drowning - soaked to the bone, his injured leg is stiff and held up towards his body
CrunchSnow - blood loss - back paw half severed and held on by a tendon
TumbleEyes - quartz impaled through eyes into skull - pretty much what it says but with a bleeding lip
QuickStar - lung infection - cracked paw pads and raspy lungs with a wheezing cough
HornetLeg - eyes gouged out - eyes crushed, the sockets swollen
RobinSneeze - drowning - eyes swollen shut, forehead bleeding
FennelFall - deathberries - mouth frothing, claw marks along cheeks
MistFang - broken neck - neck twisted and thorns digging into her spine
GhostPurr, GreenPebble - old age
MissingStar - head trauma - mouth frothing with foam, bloody paws and a cracked skull
RainHail - deathberries - mouth frothing and wild, frantic eyes
MorningShade - greencough

A small family of HollowClan OCs
A little bit of Info about them:
ShrikePollen was a very desperate mother during the great freeze, and she resorted to both cannibalism and picking off her kits one by one until only the strongest kit, FlintKit, survived. She was killed when he was nearly six moons old, and he grew into a very respected and loyal warrior who was eager to prove himself.
GingerNose was a small fluffy tom, and when he joined the clan after leaving the barn he was very excited when ShrikePollen took an interest in him. When the youngest kit, TinyKit, was sacrificed he fell into a deep depression that later lead to his death. In Starclan he spends most of his time with his four kits, telling them stories and hiding their mothers cruelty from them.
SparkKit was very adventurous and loud, spending most of her time teasing MothKit and encouraging him to play. She was the bravest of the kittens, always wanting to take care of help her family.
EmberKit spent every day until her fathers death in his den. Sometimes he’d tell her stories about cats with stars in their pelts, or the adventures he had as a farm cat. Sometimes she just rambled about whatever was on her mind to keep her father company. She was a very quiet and intelligent kit but wasn’t very close with her mother or siblings. In starclan, she is often the first to welcome any kits who were the victims of WhiteCough or GreenCough.

And their kits, MothKit, TinyKit, EmberKit, SparkKit and FlintKit (later FlintStripe) were made with this picrew: ぶくまねこメーカー｜Picrew
These designs are fairly accurate aside from FlintKit having more tabby-like stripes along his back and face.
