Itachi: Look, I’m tired, you’re tired … both of us are in need of a good night’s rest, right?
Shisui: Right …
Itachi: Right. And there’s just the one bed. So there’s only one way that both of us can ensure a peaceful night.
Shisui: Are … are you sure about this —?
Itachi: I am. I think it’s the best decision we could make together.
Shisui: Well, alright; if you’re comfortable with it then so am I …
Itachi: Good. *takes Shisui’s hands in his, holding them gently* I’ll admit this is a first for me, and I’m a little nervous, but … there’s nothing we can’t face, so long as we face it, together.
Shisui: *kisses Itachi’s knuckles* I agree. Alright; I’m ready. Let’s do this.
Itachi: *walks out the door and walks back in leading Madara by the arm*
Itachi: Here you go, Madara-sama! A nice comfy bed just for you!
Madara, grumbling: It better be for me, you little brats. I’m an old man, I need my rest. But first … which one of you is giving me my bath?
Itachi and Shisui:
Shisui: W-when the clan gave us this mission to escort Madara back to Konoha, n-nobody mentioned we’d have to bathe him! But it’s okay because it’s just one more thing we’ll face together, right, Itachi?

*in Shisui’s bedroom, the clock strikes midnight*
Itachi: *jumps up* It’s here!!
Shisui: Oh no …
Itachi: *runs to the calendar on the wall and flips the page* It is OFFICIALLY the first day of fall!
Shisui: No, it’s officially the middle of the night and we officially have a mission early in the morning. *yawns* Come back to bed.
Itachi: Can’t! Too much to do!
Itachi: *goes to Shisui’s dresser and starts yanking out all of his short-sleeved shirts* No more of these; from now on it’s only sweaters and turtlenecks.
Shisui: … fall or not you DO realize the temperature is forecasted to be in the upper 80’s for the next two weeks?
Itachi: We need to start a scrapbook to collect pretty leaves …
Shisui: The trees haven’t even started to change yet! Everything is still bright green!
Itachi: I’ll be back; I need to run to that 24-hour store and get us some tea and cider and soups. Oooh maybe I’ll get us a couple of pumpkins to carve later! *pulls on his jacket and leaves*
Shisui: *pulls the pillow over his head* I hate fall.

Shisui: Hm. That’s a hard question. Okay, you know how, when we go to McDonald’s, I always order a large fry, even though l don’t really like fries and a small one would work better for me?

*back from a mission, Shisui and Itachi take a bath in the river outside the Uchiha compound*
Itachi: God … how long has it been since my last bath? I’m filthy!
Shisui: YOU’RE filthy?! I think more dirt is coming out of my hair than there is beneath my feet!
*the two work on cleaning themselves quietly for awhile, and then they pick a spot to just sit and relax in the warm sun*
Shisui, softly: Why can’t life be like this always?
Itachi: Like what?
Shisui: This. *floats his hand in and out of the water for emphasis* See how calm and still the current is? It’s so gentle and quiet.
Shisui: Nothing like our lives, eh? Things being thrown at us constantly, and always feeling like we’re about to be pulled under the churning waves … It all just gets to be so much sometime.
Itachi: I understand that. I really do. But, personally, I’m starting to find comfort in the “wild waters”.
Shisui: What do you mean?
Itachi: Life is nice when it’s calm and still like this. But it can also be wild and exciting, and dangerous, and mysterious, and all kinds of things. You and me, sure we’ve gone through some bad things, but we’ve also been privileged to see and do things that many others will never get to do in their lifetimes.
Shisui, smiling: Never thought of it like that …
Itachi: Mm. So —
*suddenly little Sasuke comes flying down the road*
Sasuke: Ni-san! Ni-san! Mom said I could take my bath with you and Shisui-nii!
Sasuke: *gets to the edge and does a cannonball into the river, sending a spray of water and mud all over Itachi and Shisui’s heads*
Itachi: … then again maybe there IS something to be said about enjoying the “still waters” of life.
