i recently re-read Savvy by Ingrid Law. i first read it when i was around twelve, the same age as Mibs. my own upcoming book reminded me a lot of this story, with the painful but hopeful coming-of-age story told through the lens of a child with superpowers. it even has a pink car.
it was fun to revisit a book i read as a kid! i have a lot of fond memories of making a miniature version of Mibs's yellow birthday dress (complete with pockets and a tiny soap wrapped in paper) and drawing the entire book as a comic (i still have it. lol).
i'm not sure how popular this book was when it came out in 2008 (have you guys even heard of this?? sound off please). i searched it up and found out it had been optioned for a tv series in 2020, and would be produced by marsai martin. it doesn't seem like there's been any news about this since then, but i hope it gets picked up for real. i'm not sure if marsai martin was planning to star in it. she would be too old for Mibs now, but she could totally pull off Bobbi.
anyway. all that rambling aside. i just got hit with the urge to draw my current vision of Mibs and Bobbi. i love how their relationship developed. i also love how Mibs felt so grownup in her new yellow dress until she saw how Bobbi was dressed (like a fashionable teenager) and it suddenly made her feel too young and small. this was a good and relatable coming-of-age story lol

What exactly is Savoir Faire?
When I played the game I didn't have very many points in motorics so I didn't get many chances to use it to get a feel for it and it's description and the skill cabinet is not very useful
The best I can assume based on its description and the little bit I got to use it is that it's essentially your glamor skill the ability to make things look cool
Savvy? Savvy is serving absolute cunt, She is Camp with a capital C, Bringing the C to Capital.
Savoir Faire kinda sleeps for most play throughs mostly just functioning as a means to achieve physical feats like jumping or dancing.
It isn't until you start engaging with the idea of Capitalism and the Ultra Liberal grind set that Savoir Faire undergoes a metamorphosis and hijacks your brain to become Savvy ultimately taking over your personhood in order to become a money making artiso. (Basically at a certain point Harry can start calling himself Savvy (much to kims displeasure).)
Savvy is basically like a main character in the Ultra Liberal playthrough so I don't wanna spoil TOO much but.
I haven't finished the capitalist harry playthrough yet but Savvy is a muscle memory of Harry's disco days the presentation of his cool and carefree life of dance and fun. Something, something consumption is a replacement for genuine connection (like empathy says there) something, something harry by becoming savvy is trying to tap into a version of himself that was happier melting his brain down into a nostalgic puddle by consuming art without the appreciation of it outside of its ability to manifest monetary gain because money = power and power = happiness and getting Dora back because we're not poor anymore and being poor = being sad.
