This image of two children sitting in cradles is a very sad story to be told. Some it’s told, find it extremely creepy and other find it very touching. I find it to be a beautiful way to lay your children to rest. I’m also sure this is a grave that stops people in their tracks with curiosity.

Its recounted in legend, that the children's mother left toys in their gravestones. People today still leave toys at the gravesites in their honor as well.

The stones memorialize John B. Sarpy Morrison, who was about 6 when he died in 1876, and Julia Olivia Morrison, who was about 2 when she died in 1870. Their father was James L.D. Morrison and their mother was Julia Ann Adele Sarpy Morrison. James Morrison died in 1888 at 72; his much-younger wife died in 1925, at 84.

James Morrison was a lawyer who served in the Mexican-American War, both branches of the Illinois General Assembly and in the U.S. Congress, representing part of Illinois. The two married in 1861 and had four children; two survived.

Whether she actually visited the graves to leave toys isn't certain. Julia Morrison wrote several books after her husband died, and was described in newspaper articles as a social leader. A February 1888 article says she "is one of the most striking examples St. Louis affords of a wealthy, energetic woman, who does not let time hang heavy on her hands, and whose industry ... is indefatigable." She owned (with her sister, Virginia Peugnet) several properties in St. Louis, East St. Louis and Jefferson County, and was a co-owner of the St. Louis Shot Tower.

The Sarpy-Morrison plot includes several family names, including Berthold, Carr, Peugnet, Roche, Morrison and Sarpy, according to archdiocesan burial records.

Mortuary Employee Arrested After Bizarre Incident with a Sex Doll In an unusual turn of events, a mortuary employee from Nebraska found himself out of a job and behind bars after he paid an unexpected visit to a deceased man's residence for a rather unconventional rendezvous. The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office revealed that 41-year-old Ryan Smith was taken into custody and is now facing charges of attempted burglary, criminal trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence. After a brief stint in Sarpy County Jail, Smith was released on $500 bail, according to his public defender, Thomas Strigenz. Smith was one of two employees working for Mid America First Call, a company that the sheriff's office had contracted to handle the retrieval and processing of deceased individuals. On October 6, they responded to a call about a 51-year-old man's "natural death" in Chalco, located near 144th Street and Giles Road. Later that same day, Smith contacted the property manager of the deceased man's residence, asserting that the sheriff's office had requested him to collect a life-sized sex doll for a supposed "biopsy." However, this claim raised suspicions. Captain Tori Boldt clarified that the sheriff's department would never request such an item unless it was linked to a potential crime, such as murder or relevant trace evidence. The property manager wisely declined Smith's request. Notably, when investigating a strange noise in the now-vacant apartment, the property manager discovered Smith inside, with the deadbolt locked and the chain secured. Smith's disheveled appearance raised further concerns. Boldt explained, "The landlord called to report this suspicious activity. They noticed that there were no officers with this person claiming to pick up the doll for us, so he called and said that was strange. had left the location, but we knew who he was, so we caught up with him to make the arrest." Upon a subsequent investigation at the scene, it was noted that items had been rearranged from their previous positions in photographs taken earlier in the day. The Douglas County Crime Lab was called to process the new crime scene and collect fingerprints. Additionally, investigators intended to take DNA samples from the sex doll, which remained in the apartment. The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office confirmed that there were no indications of Smith tampering with other crime scenes, and they planned to maintain their working relationship with the mortuary company. Justin Dalton, the owner of Mid America First, clarified that Smith was "off the clock" during the unusual incident and promptly terminated following his arrest. Captain Boldt acknowledged the intrigue surrounding the case, stating, "I understand the public's interest in it – it's such an odd story." We set off from Iowa and crossed into Nebraska. There we passed one of the most landlocked lighthouses in the USA, the Linoma Lighthouse. I didn’t expect to see a beach here, but it turns out it’s artificial.

Linoma Beach, now doing business under the name Linoma Lighthouse, is a privately owned recreation area developed around an artificial lake in Sarpy County in the eastern part of the state of Nebraska, in the Midwestern United States. The site was opened in 1924; in 1939, a 100-foot (30 m) lighthouse was added to it. The lighthouse is a conspicuous landmark on U.S. Highway 6 between Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska.

It seems that everything in Nebraska gets progressively drier as you travel west. We had a couple hundred miles of this, plus a few hills…

We popped in a record shop (didn’t catch the name) and looked around while a metal band started playing (also didn’t catch the name, though I think they said the song was called Death). Seemed like a cool place. We called it a night not long after.

so yeah, i was a bit incorrect yesterday because it fucked me up where they put the little dot for 'omaha' but basically, what happened was they took the dense urban center full of democrats, but they also added a bunch of suburban conservative fluff to it (including my grandparents, with whom i live), allowing the republican to win by 52.2%. the district that comprises lincoln and all the other parts of eastern nebraska with notable population centers got the other half of sarpy county in return, but generally with all the rural folks it also goes red, which, back when i was in this district, was annoying. but because lincoln (college town with a capitol wrapped around it) and now with the addition of half of sarpy county (little bit cut off in the districts, the 'fucked up' part), the republican candidate won with still only 58% of the vote

the 3rd district comprises the entire rest of the state and it was no contest, it always goes red.

so yeah once i realized what they did, i got. uhh. really pissed. i was ready for nebraska to send 2 R and 1 D to the house, i was being realistic about that, but to send 3 whole R???? fuck off. this is not representative of our people. luckily it's the house and not the senate, so 1 doesnt make too much of a difference, but i'm sure nebraska isnt the only state that had this happen to them, which may spell bad news for the house. not sure about the senate, it looks close, so we may take it yet. maybe.
