some disjointed observations about Boss and Shaundi that’ve been rollin around in the back of my head

the Shaundi - Boss dynamic in sr2 is like hmm... outside the campaign i know some of the female boss voices actually express some appreciation towards her, calling her cool and such, while mboss 1 and 2 talk about how they wanna fuck her in a really weird roundabout way that features a fetish for sombreros because of course. its a 2008 dudebro game, the player must be informed of how very heterosexual this character is (only if it’s a dude though because bi girls are hot!!!1!!!) mboss 3 however, being the resident homosexual manifestation of this person that they are, does not express any deeper opinion on her one way or another outside the campaign. i use this particular voice so the way i see their relationship is uhh not very good! in the campaign Boss does not trust her, openly referring to her taking part in any jobs as “babysitting”, like the whole SoS arc is basically Shaundi trying to navigate around Boss’ stiff preconceived notions about her and her capabilities because of the Veteran Child thing. she definitely outsmarts them too more than once, it just doesn’t... really get resolved. Boss is someone who appreciates raw strength and Shaundi does not and probably never would be able to impress Boss in that way. Shaundi rightfully calls them out on it at the end of the arc too, calling them an asshole, and they just shrug it off.

i think it’s made even worse in the epilogue where Boss basically tells her to go work the corner in exchange for info on the Pyramid. like is that what her ultimate purpose is in the Saints, at least in Boss’ eyes? they’re so goddamn disrespectful towards her and it feels like doubly insulting that Volition just pretended like Boss was basically like her confidant in sriv or some shit like that, just the absolute exact opposite of how they wrote these two characters previously. it is so transparently about her being a woman too, like Pierce is free to shove his foot down his throat as much as he wants with Boss but he still gets to actually do stuff - his problem was just that he didn’t really have enough room in the story to feel a bit more fleshed out as a character. it was Shaundi who ultimately deserved “some love” as one Saint puts it but she never ever got any from this series at any point beyond sr2 trying to at least set up stuff that could be resolved later on. instead they have her fuck animals and robots and whatever in the later games because you know if you have a lot of sex that means you have to be ready to fuck anything, how very funny wacky

#i am of the firm opinion that if anyone should be purposefully sleeping around for information it's Boss #that is like an actual job they do out of their own free will. it makes perfect sense #genuinely think that Boss being a sex worker is an important part of this character and i wish it was actually brought up in the campaigns #posting Boss

I'm still annoyed that the community favorite saints row game is Saints Row 2, and the one they remastered was the most mid one instead.

Like, they had all the details at their fingertips and fucked it up.

SR2 came out in 2008, the remaster for 3 came out in 2020

That means they had 12 full years of the community singing 2's praises and constantly talking on every platform imaginable about how much they wish the series stuck with the tone set in 2 and that they want 2 re-released and that the series really went off the rails with 3 and 4 and failed to recapture that balance that 2 had.

and they went "Which one was the best one again? IDK, 3 maybe" and just shit a remaster no one asked for out to the marketplace.

I hate video games.

There is literally, so fucking much more to say about the reboot's failure to make a good story and failure to earn the relationships the characters are supposed to have and failure to this that and the fucking other thing-

but I'd like to think at least 1 guy responsible for the Third remaster saw the initial discussions around the reboot around 2021 when it was announced, and went "Oh."

Because the initial discussions around the reboot pretty much came in 2 flavors.

People who hated it from the word go and refused to give it a chance (lucky for them it was bad, I guess, but still a shitty attitude), and people who hoped it would be good and SPECIFICALLY mentioned that they hope it returns to saints row TWO's tone.

I hope at least 1 guy responsible for the remaster saw those comments and went "Oh. Oh I chose the wrong one to remaster, huh."

I find it extremely funny that there are people legitimately mad that Santo Ileso isn’t an island like Stilwater and Steelport are. Literally the only reason previous two cities are islands is due to the technological limitations of 2008/2011. Volition literally intended to make Stilwater connect to mainland in SR1 and they were extremely proud they found a way to make it work at the time, only to “downgrade” it in SR2.

I’m really amazing that they found a way to make a landlocked map work, and not only that, but to make flying vehicles also work on this map. Can’t wait to see how they all handled it on a technical point

So... I think I found a phone that looks like both the Saints Row 2 and Saints Row The Third phone.

It's called a Motorola Milestone from July 2010. I found this on eBay while looking for new project phones and had to have it.

It has the same shape and look of the SR2 phone but the buttons of the SRTT phone.

The in game phones even do the sideways shit this phone does, it's uncanny. Considering Saints Row 2 is set in 2010 they were not far off what 2010 phones looked like in 2008.

Probably gonna work on reskining the OS to look like the SR2 phone. Also gonna change it into English too at some point. I just prefer using Dutch or Russian.

Hi, I was wondering if a fellow sr fan can help me out? I was looking through Aisha's Wikia page, specifically the images and saw an image that shows her obituary that said that was from the official game site but the image showed her birth and death year which said 1982-2009 idk if this canon or correct and I was unsure if I should use that information since it could be wrong idk what do you think?

Oh man, the old SR2 site obituary pages... Those things are one of the main reasons that people headcanon their own SR timelines, because the years make no damn sense.

According to the obituaries, Carlos would have been killed in 2007, yet Lin in 2008, a year after Carlos?? And Aisha two years after Carlos???

There’s just... so much messed up stuff regarding the SR timeline that it’s just bonkers. We’re basically given no concrete dates in-game except SRIV intro narration’s assertion that SR1 started? ended? "made [the Saints’] presence known to the world” in 2006 (which, not coincidentally, was also the year SR1 was released).

Everything else is based on out-of-game material that shifts around, and a few in-game textures of calendars and stuff that are super unreliable because a) often the years are just placeholders and are the same years the game was being worked on, and b) many textures get recycled between the games.

There’s a couple of in-game mentions of spans of time (Johnny says that he’d been in prison for 2 years and 31 days, and it’s 5 years between the Zero Saints Thirty mission and the Zin invasion), but without specific dates to anchor those to, it’s all guesswork at best.

So basically, to paraphrase Dane Vogel in Gat Out of Hell, “Timeline’s what you make of it, sweetie.”

i mean it’s all subjective, but i certainly enjoy it to bits, yeah :D it instantly became my favourite series when i first started playing in 2008, and there’s a reason it’s still one of my tippy top faves today (i hope you dont mind, but you’ve given me an opportunity to waffle about one of my Big Loves™ so i’m gonna take it xD feel free to stop reading though if it doesnt interest you!)

the first game has a lot going against it. it’s an xbox360 exclusive, the player character is gender locked male, the character creator is…. not great, there’s no difficulty settings, and the gameplay can be very clunky and buggy. despite that, the characters are great and the story is good. it’s worth a look, even if you just watch it on youtube, to see where the Saints, and the Boss (Playa in this game), get their start. it is old, tho, and it shows its age

sr2 sees the Boss come into their own and really take control. this is honestly still my favourite of the series, and it’s where i was first introduced to the Boss and Stilwater. a lot of people claim it’s a more ‘serious’ game but to be honest, saints row has always had a distinct flavour of goofus and fun to it. the themes explored are definitely presented in a heavier fashion, though. gentrification, dealing with the aftermaths of betrayal (and honestly, trauma), dealing with a world that’s shot forward without you. found family is a big component of the entire series to be honest. the character creator is also head and shoulders above that of 1, and honestly feels more enjoyable than that of the later instalments too. boss’ gender is also not just a binary choice of male/female, but an actual sliding scale. also, you can layer clothing and for real that’s one of the things i miss most in 3 and 4

unfortunately the pc port of sr2 is nigh unplayable without the Gentlemen of the Row mod, and even with it it can still be a buggy nightmare for some. you dont have access to the two small story dlcs on the pc port either

beginning with 3, there’s a dramatic shift in tone and art style. the change is a very divisive issue among the fandom; some hate it and want a return to the ‘badass’/’serious’ style of the first two games, some people prefer the fun outlandish style of 3 and 4, and others, like me, enjoy both halves of the series. i have fun in both, i enjoy the characters in both, i enjoy the stories in both, i see the value in both. if you like a more ‘modern’ gaming experience (at least compared to the likes of 1 and 2 (kind of in the way you might compare dragon age origins to da2 maybe? or da2 to inquisition), you might enjoy them. the character creator is glossy, with many more hairstyle and makeup choices. it’s also worth noting that none of the clothing, hairstyles, or makeup options are gender locked (though the gender choices are back to being binary - no sliding scale)

honestly there’s so much more i could say, but this is already getting long as is. short answer is, yeah i definitely think it’s good :D

since the newspaper clipping photo is dated June 14th, sr2 can’t happen in 2008 because sr1 happens in the autumn of 2006. the interview with Troy in the manual is dated Sep 3 2006 and the manual is “written” by Troy as a report directed at Chief Monroe after the article was released, and it’s set at the beginning of the game

Johnny was in prison for two years and a month, so assuming he somehow got arrested and thrown in prison the very second Playa got blown up which isn’t really plausible, that’d still mean it’d basically have to be late autumn when sr2 begins - if not winter because the events of the first game probably took longer than just a few days or smth even if its obv stuck in the moment seasons-wise

Oh boy, business major mega might be coming to surface now but, imma be honest, I don't agree with most of the gamer bro criticism of the game because its really stupid, but I also don't agree that a million dollar corporation should make fun of fans for not falling in love with the new characters on their debut. Especially with a company that has a history of fucking over their fans. (I really am not too fond of Deep Silver, who are running all of their twitters now btw)

Everyone is into Saints Row for their own reasons and loves different characters for different reasons, if they don't think the new characters are working for them as the old ones did, its the brand and marketing's job to convince them they are just as good, not call them haters cause they weren't hooked by the CGI. It leaves a bad taste that'll haunt them forever. I know I would be pretty pissed if I voiced my concerns about them fucking over Shaundi in SRTT and being called a "hater" by the creators over it.

Also fans complaining about new characters are mean and need to realize its not 2008 anymore and no normal person dresses anymore as any character from SR1 and SR2.
