It's been a while since the last metal-poll here on @music-addiction-disorder , for those interested... the last one was about "Metal Duets", 26 people voted and Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne won with 34,6 %. I've been tagged several times this week in different Slayer videos, that got me thinking it was about time for another poll. So, to all you Slayer fans out there i ask... "What's your favorite of these 10 Slayer albums"?
My all time favorite is "Show No Mercy", because style-wise it's one of a kind in their catalog and it still speaks to me even to this day.
youtube
Slayer was formed in 1981 by Los Angeles schoolmates and guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Tom Araya soon joined on bass and vocals, and drummer Dave Lombardo joined last in 1982. They played in a style reminiscent of early Exodus, influenced heavily by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, before their attendance at a mid-1982 Metallica concert convinced them to play faster and heavier.
youtube
The group's name is an acronym for "Satan Laughs As you Eternally Rot" as shown in the first press vinyl's runout of their debut album (also written in the back sleeve of Divine Intervention) and part of this referred in the lyrics of "live undead" song: "Laughing as you eternally rot, searching for human flesh and life's blood, Live Undead, Dead" from the album South Of Heaven.
In January 2018 the band announced the end of Slayer after a final tour which ended in November 2019.

Tobias Forge’s t-shirts, part 4
» Part 1
» Part 2
» Part 3
Tumblr media
Possessed: featuring the band’s logo as seen on their album Seven Churches. Here you can read a short article Tobias wrote for Metal Hammer where he talks about why he likes that album.
Queen: featuring the famous Queen crest logo. The logo was designed by Freddie Mercury shortly before the release of Queen's debut album in 1973 and combines the zodiac signs of all four band members: two lions for Leo (Deacon and Taylor), a crab for Cancer (May) and two fairies for Virgo (Mercury).
Rush – ‘Starman’: also known as 'Man in the Star' first appeared in the gatefold for the album 2112 and was later adapted by Rush fans as their logo. 2112 is a somewhat concept album set in Solar Federation, a totalitarian society where evil priests keep everyone in line - the man in the star was supposed to depict "the abstract man against the masses" and the hero of the story.
Sindrome – Into the Halls of Extermination: featuring cover art of Sindrome’s 1987 demo tape. Sindrome was an American trash metal band, currently disbanded.
Tumblr media
Slayer – Slatanic Wehrmacht: shirt from around 1985. Slaytanic (or Slatanic) Wehrmacht is the name of the official fan club of Slayer, the name and the logo both quite clearly based on pseudo-Nazi imagery, which for some fucking reason Slayer used a lot.
Slayer – Live Undead: shirt from mid-80s Live Undead tour. Slayer also released a live album under the same name in 1984.
Slayer – Show No Mercy: featuring cover art of Slayer’s first album Show No Mercy
Slayer – Hell Awaits: featuring Slayer’s logo from around early 1980s
Tumblr media
Sodom – In the Sign of Evil: featuring cover of the first EP by Sodom released in 1985. Record EP is considered part of the first wave of black metal, but Sodom later turned to trash metal and that is what they are most known for.
Venom: 1984 shirt featuring the classic Venom logo and demon designed by Conrad Lant and lyrics to the song Possessed - "Look at me Satan's child / Born of evil thus defiled"
Voivod - Tournado: 1987 shirt from the Tournado tour of that same year, which the band went on following the release of the album Killing Technology. Voivod is one of Tobias’ favorite bands, which he often cited as an inspiration for Subvision – especially the record Angel Rat, which actually quite differs from Voivod’s earlier stuff.
Voivod – Rrröööaaarrr: features cover art of that one Voivod record no one really knows how to pronounce without sounding funny. It’s a great record, though!
Tumblr media
Voivod: another Rrröööaaarrr shirt, this one also has the title of the song “To the death” printed on the back.
Voivod - Killing Technology: a newer shirt from mid 2010s as it was sold on tour then, but featuring cover of the Killing Technology record
Celtic Frost – 1984 shirt featuring the logo of Celtic Frost, a Swiss metal band.
Master – a bootleg Master shirt from the 90s. Master is a death metal band originally from the US, later relocated to Czech Republic. Funnily enough, Tobias was once asked about this shirt and said the band was “cool but not very good” :-)
Tumblr media
And here are a couple of non-band tees for a change, from left to right:
Edgar Allan Poe, writer
Mike Mayers / Halloween, art by Patrick Kendall
The Exorcist
Thorn Industries: logo of the corporation owned by the Thorn family in The Omen series
George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead
A Clockwork Orange
Freddy Krueger / A Nightmare on Elm Street
And with that post we conclude the series. Tack!

💌, ✨, ❌ for ask games please!!
Thanks for the ask, love!
💌 How do you feel about comments and feedback?
- how do I FEEL about comments and feedback? Probably similar to how the flowers feel about sunlight and gentle rain. Like how cats feel about being scratched behind their ears. I crave and welcome validation.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
- I do my best to take advantage of my encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture and do my capital-R research when I consider what pieces of media would realistically be consumed by the characters I’m writing about, and when those particular movies, shows, records, etc were released. For instance, in I cry out for magic, Eddie is listening to Slayer’s Hell Awaits, an album that was released in 1985, and has a tongue-in-cheek ‘message’ that plays when the record is played in reverse. When I combed through lists of records that featured intentional backmasking, I considered the fact that Eddie has a giant Slayer flag on his bedroom wall, it all felt like a natural fit! I think it’s a little detail that makes sense.
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
- my worst fear as a teenager was getting pregnant so I can’t imagine myself writing a teen pregnancy fic in a way that would be enjoyable for anyone involved. 😵‍💫
