So.... so it was you who saved us. Seriously though, where is Monokuma? Why isn’t he here to gloat?!

Oh man, last time Kokichi went all expositional on us, he tore Kaito and Shuichi apart and brought the trial to a swift and tragic conclusion. D: W... What exactly is going to happen this time?

This really is somewhat of a callback to the Insect Meet-n-Greet, but in two parts - the first, tricking Gonta, was last chapter; the second, having the students physically compromised and under Kokichi’s complete control, here.

Not at all where I originally thought I was, Kaito, if that gives you some semblance of solace.

Man, no wonder Gonta lost it the way he did. And how about you? Did you already know from the start, and that’s why you can be like this? Or... aaah the key card. Maybe... was it maybe around the time Kaito punched you at breakfast time, then? When he said you were acting weird?

The fact that he can act like this now is kind of terrifying, though. 8′D Is that part of what makes him an Ultimate Supreme Leader? Is it his ability to wrest control of the situation, despite his own personal feelings, and put on a strong face no matter the circumstances?

Yeah... this part I figured. That level of meteor activity would wipe out a huge chunk of the population through atmosphere alone, right? Take a glance at this if you’re up to it - it’s about what the scientists surmise may have happened when the dinosaurs were wiped out. actually maybe this was a missed change to have an ultimate palaeontologist along with our anthropologist but this is hardly the time for that -

So this part seems pretty straightforward, and I’d already worked out a lot way back when. I’ll use the screenshots like bullet points, because this is mostly exposition -

The leaders made some weird fucking choices, guys. I actually don’t put K1-b0 as the weirdest one, despite Kokichi calling them ‘Adams and Eves’ - it makes sense to me to have a robot with a powerful learning AI who can deal with issues that humans can’t, go out into space to take care of problems, who is unable to get sick (whilst also having someone having a mechanic to take care of his problems, and can just generally be a great asset. It’s people like Kokichi, Maki, Himiko and Tsumugi that I’m questioning. >>

So I suppose that does explain the Ultimate Hunt aspect... but I don’t know if I’m 100% satisfied with the answer. It just seemed so much more ominous to me when they were remembering it? Though I suppose to them, maybe it would seem that way..... hm. I feel like there are still pieces missing here.

... Alright. Alright, okay, I’m with you so far. That does make the funeral memory fit better, I think. With that said, I... I’m still very attached to the idea of the original 16 students being found and killed, and another set of talentless students being found in there place and forcefully being given their memories aka the prologue...

Though, hm, that’s a bit funny, isn’t it? If I remember right, Kaede and Shuichi remembered being kidnapped and then they woke up in the lockers... but the Monokids were the one who gave them their memories back. If this is all accurate and we’re still not missing more of the whole picture, would that mean the people in charge of the Gopher Project weren’t going to give them their memories back until the spaceship had already launched? Doesn’t that seem rather drastic and impractical?

I’d say Kokichi was lying, but I don’t think that’s right either - maybe he’s lying via omission? I’m trying not to just rely on the whole, ‘we’re in chapter 5, so we can’t have all the answers yet!’ schtick - I just feel like there are still some pieces missing that may help things gel better later on.

Fun fact: the minimum number of people needed to create a successful new population is 80. But even that’s a low number, and not optimal - apparently it should be closer to 160. No, seriously, they’ve done the math!

I know having more than 16 for a Danganronpa game would be way too much, but this whole plan was doomed to fail from the start!

I feel like Kaito’s scientist brain just realized the same thing I did and is protesting loudly about that as well as everything else. 8′D

..... I.... When someone asked me what I thought Tsumugi’s motive would be if she was the mastermind, I originally answered that she showed signs of being susceptible to cults per her actions in Chapter 3 as well as her many general references to ‘escapism’ being her coping method of choice. I thought she may have been a member of the cult from the flashbacks. That would also be a reason why she may have been missed during the screening for viable candidates.

BUT THE LEADER?! HOW DO YOU MISS THE LEADER OF THE CULT ORGANIZATION TRYING TO BRING DOWN THE WHOLE DAMN MISSION
