big long rant
Okay okay so I love looking for and reading bad brackendra fics cause they’re fucking hilarious.
But some of them are good, like really good
It got me thinking, about the logistics of Bracken’s immortality and Kendra’s age again. About Ronodin’s immortality. About Lena’s
My first impression is ew, especially with Bracken, right? But Brandon wrote it so it’s ew, even if unintentional, he did.
Would it be wrong in every situation, no matter what?
We know that Brandon claims their minds are young, which does justify some things, except for the fact that their actions prove otherwise. If their actions proved Brandon’s words would it be okay? Would we believe it?
What if they genuinely felt like that? What if they were genuinely at the maturity of that age? A lot of the reason dating laws exist is because of the difference in maturity. And even though I don’t think 18 should be the cutoff, it’s why it’s there.
I mean, I still find it weird when people think once a child is 18 it’s suddenly okay to like them. Because your brain stops maturing at around 25. For me, it’s all about maturity. If their maturity was genuinely at that level, would it be okay? Would it be separate enough from their wisdom and experiences from their long life?
Another thing that got me thinking was an essay I wrote for my English 1010 class. One of the sources provided mentioned the brain affected things like attraction.
This source provided an example of how a tumor, pushing against where attraction is created, forms pedophilic thoughts and urges in someone. And while yes, this is bad, could it be the same in other scenarios? Could the way the brain is arranged cause different, uncontrollable, emotions and feelings?
If their brain was arranged in such a way, if the part that controlled their emotions was shaped in such a way, they wouldn’t have any control over it. It’s not some malicious or creepy feeling anymore, to them at least.
If they were genuinely at the same maturity, genuinely had no control over their attraction, because that’s just how they were made, how they were built, would it still be creepy?
Could they be considered the same age if their maturity was at the same level?
It’s like, I’m attracted to people my age. Because that’s how it should be, that’s how I was made. That’s how the thing in my brain is shaped. I’m not attracted to little children, because it’s wrong, and it’s not how I was made. If all of those immortal beings were made to mature at a certain rate, and made to be attracted to certain people, are their feelings valid, or is their species as a whole just wrong?
Just some thoughts. Wondering how everyone else feels on the subject? Still undecided myself honestly. I want some opinions outside of my brain.

Fluffy Feburary [2024], Day 2 Prompt- Eavesdrop @fluffyfebruary
It had all started very simply, or well... Ronodin thought it had started very simply, he still wasn't quite sure how it had gotten to this point. With him sat in the Sorenson's living room, a Christmas tree up in the corner with several people glancing cautiously at him- as they should.
He had simply been listening in on Kendra and his cousin, and really, the should know better then to talk where someone could easily eavesdrop. And yet somehow, he was caught! Him! Master of hiding and deception and a million other things. (No, he was not going to give that dragon credit for finding him.)
And so. Here he sat in the Sorenson's living room. Ruth(?) staring at him, no amusement on her face as she held a crossbow- a loaded crossbow!- at his face. A few feet to her left was a rather boring looking man that he couldn't recall that name of (David? Daniel? Whatever.). And a satyr! Now, he didn't really have anything truly against them but... really? A satyr in their house? Did they not care about the furniture?
Nearest to him was his beloved cousin, son of the Fairy Queen, Bracken. And opposite his (annoying) cousin was the Fairy Queen's handmaiden, Kendra. Really, if anything it was their whole fault he was here!
Once he'd been found someone had ushered Seth away, which Ronodin found quite rude. Sure, he might've emotionally manipulated him- but everyone emotionally manipulated someone at one point or another!
...
...three hours had passed. Somewhere after the half hour mark the satyr had left the house, but promising that he'd be back later with another satyr (Nick? Newel?).
Then after the hour the plain man (Dale!) had stood up and said that he needed to get back to his chores, not before leveling a glare at him though. Really! The nerve of these people. Did they not understand how rude they were being to him?
Around two hours later, when the sun was making its descent Ruth had reluctantly stood up and made Kendra and his cousin promise to keep an eye on him before she disappeared.
And so, after the three hour mark Kendra had inquired if he would like something to eat. Now, you must understand- he was not a picky person when it came to food. But he had very much laughed in her face, which quickly made her retract the offer of food.
At the realization that she seriously wasn't going to get him food unless he apologized he pouted. Wasn't she supposed to be a 'good guy'? What kind of good guy didn't feed their guests?
Another half an hour later he finally caved and (politely) asked her to get him something to eat. Since really, he did need to eat something. Before she'd left she had made eye contact with his cousin that seemed to make him promise to keep an eye on Ronodin.
...
...an unknown amount of time later he'd been released from him bondage.
And somehow he was... enjoying spending time with his (moronic) cousin and Kendra. Perhaps it was because he felt some... peace, from being around just the two of them. The light magic that emanated from them felt like a cool balm against his skin. Like a memory of something that had once been familiar to him.
He found himself lowering his guard around the two. The barbs coming from him not feeling as venomous as they should, and the ones coming from his friends enemies didn't feel as venomous as they should either. They felt... like the snark one would expect from people who had known each other their entire lives and were friends. Not two unicorns and a mortal(?) handmaiden to the Fairy Queen who were enemies.
At some point, Ronodin realized that there was a blanket wrapped around the three of them, with another spread across their laps. He was stuck in between them but it didn't feel bad... it felt safe. Even as he felt Kendra's head on his shoulder, soft breathing coming from her as her eyelids fluttered. Or his cousin's soft voice that made him feel like he was a young unicorn again and his older cousin was telling him stories.
It felt like home. That was his only thought as he felt himself rest his head on Kendra's and slowly drift off to sleep.

Reasons Why The Fairy King's Disappearance/Sacrifice Makes No Sense:
It's already been discussed, but the whole Astrid thing? Like they didn't do anything... It wasn't a failure/negligence on their part
Bracken's whole if I knew he wasn't dead, I would have tried to rescue him (and probably got captured, just sayin)! Like...how did you know he was dead? The last time you saw him he was alive and being kept as a trophy???
Also the fact that they were shocked he was being kept as a trophy. Gorgrog literally told you that's what he was doing
Bracken also implied that he discovered Ronodin was working with the demons, which lead to the King getting taken during the MOTPI fight. But that's not what happened during the flashbacks in ROTDS. And if it was, Bracken's "discovery" seems a little obvious
They also can't find his horns? This one's a little more understandable, but you'd feel like he'd either have left them when he was taken or they were somewhere in Zzyzx, where you are now
I just feel like the last book was covered in plot holes and wrecked canon. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Neither does Ronodin's turn to evil, like he doesn't really do anything evil??? I'd love to know how he became evil, and not just dark, which are supposed to be separate, but in the last book...? I really missed that.
Feel free to comment with anything else you found, thanks for listening to my long tumblr rant lol

I’ve finished Dragonwatch!
This post is about my thoughts on the final book of the series so if you haven’t finished it, then do not keep reading.
First of all I’ve got to say how glad I am that Seth neither died nor became an undeath. I had thought he was gone for good. Another thing that I had feared is that someone was gonna use the Unforgiving Blade to chop off at least one of his wings. I’m so happy that he got to keep them! 😁
Personally I prefer a story that surprises me, where I don’t know where the author is taking us, where I think the story will go in one direction but then it takes a different one.
There was a moment when I thought they were going to use the Wizenstone to create a pocket dimension for dragons to live in. A place where they would be free without the risk of them wanting to attack the rest of the world.
I like the canon solution better because a pocket dimension could had ended up seen as just a bigger sanctuary. A bigger prison in the eyes of the dragons.
About Ronodin. The way they defeated him made sense, but it felt a bit too quick for me. Then again, the series was about dragons so it follows Mr. Mull didn’t want to spend more time on the dark unicorn.
A part of me would had wanted redemption for Ronodin. When Lizelle told Kendra about Ronodin’s story, it seems as if in the beginning his only sin was being different, thinking different. And that itself isn’t bad. The bad came when he started making evil decisions. As he said back in book… 2?  He liked seeing light being turned to darkness. I guess that alone makes it hard for him to be worthy of redemption. *sigh*
Still, I do have a weakness for characters that behave all evil but in reality have good deep inside of them. And I love reading/seeing that kind of characters going good. Healing that part of them that made them bad. And… maybe this is a bit weird in me, but I love them more if they become good but retain a bit of “evil” attitude. Sortof like Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent.
Knox. Oh, Knox. 🙈 I really deeply disliked this character. I think he has some little bits in common with Seth here and there. Like for example, back in Fablehaven, Seth too had a period where he wanted gold. But Seth grew out of that and matured. But Knox… He hurt Newel but it was like he got no remorse about it at all. Till the end he still wanted to get a sword. Ok, his personality was being worsened by the Giant Queen’s crown when he hurt Newel, but after he took the crown off he should had understood that swords are not toys. I know there’s people in real life who are like that, who never learn, but that fact hasn’t helped me in disliking him less.
And his bragging, “The Underking asked for my opinion back when I was Giant King”. 🙈🙈🙈 Please, somebody do something. Go get Mortimer Folchart and throw… I don’t know. Medusa in Knox’s way.
Oh, and his rubbing on Seth’s face that it was Seth’s fault the fall of Wyrmroost and the start of the dragon war. Come on, that was very not nice and very unfair. Seth didn’t have his memories, Ronodin convinced him that he was doing something good. If he hadn’t gotten kidnapped the fall of Wyrmroost would had been different. And whose fault was it that Ronodin got the barrel which enabled Seth’s kidnapping?? How easily Knox forgot that.
By the way, I had really believed that the Somber Knight was going to actually be Konrad,… I didn’t read Fablehaven again when I started Dragonwatch, so, maybe there was something written there that could had helped me throw away that theory, but,…. well, it was nice to play detective. 😅
To finish this… I don’t know you, but the ending left me wanting to read more about this world. Not another war. I’d like something different. Like maybe Kendra, Bracken and Seth dealing with the difficulties of their daily lives mixed with their new powers. Kendra got some incredible powers that I wish we had gotten the chance to see! I don’t know, maybe reading them doing good around them while hiding their powers/secrets from their friends.
I can see Seth rapidly sneaking back into an empty classroom. Hiding his wings just in time before his friends enter the room and saw them.
- “Wha- Seth, where did you come from?!”   -  “What do you mean? I’ve been here all along?”
And before anyone has a chance to say anything else a white feather slowly floats its way down in front of Seth. All eyes tracking the descend till it reaches the floor. Their eyes jumping back to Seth who just smiles awkwardly.
