Well, that was a ride. Unmarked spoilers below the cut.
Took me about 5 months to clear episode 8, and three days to clear episode 9.
Episode, well, where to begin. I'll admit that I read too many spoilers myself on major plot elements, undercutting some of it. Still, it was neat to see just how hard Deathless Black Snake is into a kind of violent nationalism, possibly even fascist thought?
Favorite moment is without a doubt Alina's death in R8-9 After, and abject refusal to allow Talulah to know her killers. Because Talulah will take revenge if given a chance, will let anger consume her, will fall to Kaschey's arts and hateful manner of thinking - even if the arts weren't there, it would be a path of violence for her.
The white-haired Draco keeps trudging on in the cold, endless snowfield. On her back, the Elafia girl trembles away, pausing only to take in deep breaths now and then.
Snow drops down from the Elafia's horns. As Talulah slogs along, the snow-covered trees behind her begin to burn alight in silence. She has unknowingly begun to set her path ablaze.
The final climax of chapter 8 is also some great otaku-ass nonsense as Amiya, our cute soft bunny CEO, has a powerset almost perfectly geared to ruin the Deathless Black Snake's day. And she knows it
The introduction of Priestess, and her vow to Doctor was also really neat:
and I liked the story beat that Kaschey is still inside Talulah, still tempting her. Fuel for my anarchist reading of the story;
It's this urge for control, for power, for violent revenge that undergirds why Reunion goes wrong. The pull towards authoritarianism, towards unchecked violence, is what destroys the liberation movement.
as for mechanics, wow. Boy I hate ursus civilians. Ep 8 was probably the high water mark of difficulty in arknights, and I feel like from here I can handle anything. I gotta say Talulah was really a pile of nonsense, but with her Burning Breath mechanic defanged, she's pretty tractable.
The basic core of my strategy going into her final fight was to use Gravel and Projekt Red, who have 17 sec redeploy timers, to bait her breath move with its 19 sec cycle time. Absent that mechanic, the rest of her fight is...not easy, but manageable.
On the other end of things, ep9.
This one was a much smaller scale story, and I appreciated that! It was shorter too, which in some ways worked against it - the guys Outcast faces off against scream jobber - but it worked. It's also notable as being an episode who's plot almost doesn't feature Rhodes Island - the focus characters are instead Horn (Rita Skamandros), Bagpipe (Fiona Young), and Saileach (Jane Williams), with a little bit of time in Reed (Lougshinny)'s head. Notable is that none of those are part of the feline majority race in Victoria, and the first three all to some degree believe in a pluralistic, welcoming vision of Victoria instead of the oppressive one they have.
High points gotta be watching Saileach go from "the nice girl Janie who is nice to everyone and takes care of the flag" to "Me and this entire hospital ward are gonna beat your ass if you harm one hair on a patient's head", and Outcast's whole deal.
Like, back in prior chapters we've seen Elite RI ops show up, paradrop without chutes, tear buildings apart with telekinesis, so you know the old lady's gonna be dangerous. And she is and the payoff's great! Great old lady cowboy character.
Also, found a bit I liked:

After the conversation we had, I remembered some things from ages ago I'd forgotten.
My da's a lawyer, and he used to tell me stories about how my grandda's grandda came to Victoria with nothing. He went from rags to riches.
The Victoria he described was an advanced, open-minded, prosperous country.
Here, technology and capital conquered savagery. The people's hard work and wealth wouldn't be destroyed just like that by Catastrophes or racial conflict.
In making it to such a magnificent land, we Vouivre were able to live a "civilized" life, compared to one of barbarism and violence in the old country.
Outcast: Victoria was the most advanced industrialized nation in the world, for a very long time..
Janie: But we had to give up a lot, in order to become Victorians…
When I was five, I climbed to the top of the tallest tree in our garden. My da caught me having a blast and gave me a good scolding.
Then he locked me in my room and gave me dozens of books to read. The next day, he hired a Leithanien piano teacher for me.
I missed the view from the top of the tree, but I didn't give it much thought. I knew my da was doing it for my own good.
Outcast: He was helping you to get used to the rules.
Janie: That's right. Books, piano, the garden… He understood that those were all things we'd need to know, in order to enjoy the life we had.
Janie's family had to work hard to fit in, to not express their racial traits, to shape themselves to the society around them. Similarly, people know and sense that Victoria's glory days are past - but they don't quite grasp just how soon, how fast, the whole thing may end up unraveling. A few characters note that the fire started in County Hillock may destroy the nation, but for people like the Colonel, the magnates who wish to meet Dublinn, it's not understood - these are quite possibly Victoria's last days.
Mechanics and gameplay wise, ep 9...knocked it out of the park! It wasn't too hard, the Dublinn guys had some interesting mechanics that kept any one thing from being stale, there wasn't anything that felt like I was getting smacked with a wall of pain. I will note that 9-14, with all the pre-deployed jerks, I had to use a support Fiametta to funnel all the enemies into her bombardment kill box.
The tattered pillars mechanic is kinda tricky sometimes, with how it actively reshapes the map, but it opens the door for a lot more engaging strategies. I kinda hope it comes back now and again. Mandragora's a fun boss. I had Nearl The Radiant tank her phase 1 (shield this, loser!) and then just kinda threw random fast-redeploys and snipers at her in phase 2 including tex alter to drop pillars on her. Part of my line broke and it was nearly a fail but I got the 3* clear! A fun time.

There's enough going on here but the guy next door has one of those stolen birds and he's threatening it and he's using it as an analogy and it runs to gas it in the sun and our son when he's leaving now we take this guy apart piece by piece often comes back and threatens more. That's like they have Dave audette's program and computer but they're not using it. So we have to figure out what they have. You're so arrogant with me after losing his case I decided to remove him from my country and continent and I'm doing it today they don't seem to care the idiots here don't. So I'm going through the math and I can't figure out what it is. It says you don't have to be friends with everybody he doesn't want to be friends with you doesn't want to hang out with you doesn't want to be abused by you it's not a law that people have to allow people to abuse them and you're abusive even when you're in a friendship and he doesn't want to be your friend and never was that's his right you have no right to force it on him in any way. And you'll see he seems friendly with other people so it's not that friendly and you don't understand what I'm saying is you're forcing yourself on him for some reason and you feel that you're going to get something from it I want to know what that is nobody can figure it out. It says you're taking over the realm and I want to be him says so what he says a lot of stuff and you have no proof and you never believe it. Finally it says this I don't know how to tell you this he's got stuff and he's got somewhere and he said he doesn't he doesn't know about any of it and neither do you. At this time the cops are like standing there with her hands on the holsters cuz he's screaming at me. And I said why don't you tone it down moron I said if you think you're going to get away with it you're wrong you're trying to kidnap him all the time and you're going to go to jail every 5 minutes until you're gone this is ridiculous behavior and it's uncivilized and you're a scofflaw as a matter of fact you should be in prison right now so he goes shut up and stop talking about that I said why all these police should arrest you you're John rima Lord and you have a prison sentence and it's almost a year long because you didn't serve hardly any time. So the approach this night and I said my name is and I gave my ID and it says special ID lawyer and I said this person is a convict and they didn't arrest him. Lots often is slipping me the bird and said why wouldn't you arrest him said we have no proof it's him that's all you have to do is fingerprint him and said we don't want to do that so that's fine so on the way out I said I'm going to sue you for endangering me and more they said that's fine tell your son we're coming for him said I'm calling for reinforcements now and I'm going to pull yours in and get your Intel and your facilities here and elsewhere and take them down this is ridiculous you're a pack of morons you would you be better off smoking 10 packs of cigarettes a day then deploying that piece of s*** John remillard and I'm going to prove that too. What are you going to do without your precious laser bases well your matrix is or your armies piss in the wind all day and say you're the man I've been saying it for quite some time now tons of you are dying and you still can't figure out any simple math we're in the warpath pals and you people just put your foot right on the mine. Disclaimer:
This is to people who claim to be Christian and pro-choice. It’ s impossible to pro-choice and Christian. If your atheist, chances are you’ll find this article bonkers, not that it necessarily matters the target audience aren‘t atheists, although I do believe everyone should read the Bible once, this article was specifically for the proving what the Bible says about abortion.
Abortion for Incest: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin." –Deuteronomy 24:16
Once a person sees that the Bible clearly teaches that it is wrong to kill a child for the crime of his or her father, that frees the person to get beyond the cliché and look more closely at the actual result of abortion for incest. Because it is wrong to kill the child for the crime of the father, there are other terrible consequences, including that abortion for rape and incest emboldens those criminals and increases such crimes against women. Abortion for incest is cruel, as for example, Planned Parenthood clinics systematically refuse to comply with mandatory reporting of child rape. Abortionists then cover up the crime of incest. Often, they actually send the victim back home to her rapist. And even worse, they often send her home with her rapist, the same criminal who brought her to the clinic to dispose of the "evidence" and help him get away with his crime. Abortion for incest actually emboldens a criminal to rape his young relative and then tempts him to repeat his crime, and is not compassionate because it kills a baby and increases the woman's suffering.
Abortion for Rape: Do not "do evil that good may come." –Romans 3:8
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son… the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." –God, Ezekiel 18:20
Of course incest is a particular kind of rape, and the same scriptural teaching, here as spoken by God Himself, condemns all such punishment of the child for the crime of the father. This principle as recorded by the Hebrew prophet Ezekiel explains that a good man would love and protect the baby, but instead many lawyers and others will treat the rapist with respect and protect him, but kill the baby. The Mosaic Law in the Bible treats each person as an individual. This contrasts starkly with mankind's other ancient laws. For example the Code of Hammurabi had a law regarding when a man assaulted a pregnant woman. Then: "If the woman die, his [own] daughter shall be put to death." -Hammurabi 210
And if a house collapsed, then: "If it kill the son of the owner [then] the son of that builder shall be put to death." -Hammurabi 230
And if a businessman beats to death a debtor, who is without exception another man's son, then: "If he was a free-born man, [then] the son of the merchant shall be put to death." -Hammurabi 116
The Baby in the Womb is Called a Child: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son." –Mat. 1:23

📷The New Testament refers to Jesus in the womb as a "child". The Bible also indicates that Mary had a normal gestation period while carrying Jesus. (See Luke 2:1-6and 1:56-57.) The Lord's body was developing within his mother for a full nine months showing that Jesus began His earthly human life as a tiny embryo, a single cell. So not only scientifically, but more importantly, in God's eyes, human life begins at conception. Many centuries before the Incarnation, the most famous twins in the history of the world, Jacob and Esau, fraternal twins, are called "children" in the Scriptures while they are in the womb. And of course, to this day, twins grab hold of one another in the womb, and unborn children suck their thumbs, play with their toes, sleep, dream, and even learn the melodies of songs, and their own mother's voice. Regarding God's command to the woman who later bore Samson, to not drink wine, her "child" would be a Nazirite "from the womb," for a Nazirite is a person who, among other things, does not drink alcohol. Modern child-welfare laws in 18 states (AZ, CA, FL, IL, IN, IA, MD, MA, MI, MN, NV, OK, RI, SC, TX, UT, VA, WI) recognize that a pregnant mother who drinks alcohol not only can harm her child, but can inflict him or her with fetal alcohol syndrome. Also, fetal thirst helps regulate the amount of amniotic fluid in the womb. Excess amniotic fluid, called hydramnios (or polyhydramnios) affects 2% of pregnancies and can be somewhat alleviated by fetal swallowing (and eventual expelling) of amniotic fluid, which swallowing can be increased by injecting into the womb an artificial hunger stimulator (peptide) or even by the mother eating sweets. Thus the Bible's six references to the embryo and fetus as a babe or a child includes four that refer to five individual children specifically named (Jesus, Jacob, Esau, Samson, John) and the others referring to all unborn children. The intentional killing of the innocent is murder. Abortionists refer to the unborn children they kill as tissue and tumors, and many "conservative" politicians refer to the babies they support killing as "exceptions." But God didn't care about all the fruit Eve did not eat; nor did He mention all the women David did not violate; nor list the children whom Herod did not kill. God looks at the exceptions. He calls them children, who are made in His image and likeness. Because abortion is a public venture, except for those individually forgiven by God through faith in Jesus Christ, there is a corporate guilt for the shedding of innocent blood, with the curse pronounced by God in Deuteronomy undoubtedly applying to the abortionist, who gets money to kill the innocent, as well as to "pro-choice" judges and politicians who serve the child-killing industry.
Crime of Killing the Unborn is Murder: "If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman's husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe." –Exodus 21:22-25
Exodus 21:22 is the first fetal homicide law and concerns the child harmed during a separate assault. Pro-abortion theologians wrongly interpret this passage to refer to miscarriage, and only if the woman also dies is the penalty then life for life. But the passage distinguishes between the baby who survives the assault and the baby who dies. The meaning turns on whether the woman has a miscarriage or gives birth prematurely. And the Hebrew verb used is NOT that for miscarriage. Therefore the passage imposes only a fine on the criminal who accidentally causes a premature birth, but the punishment is life for life if the baby then dies. This shows that God equated the life of the unborn with that of the born, and abortion with murder. This passage, like Exodus 21:33-36, 22:5-6, and others, teaches that those who cause injury are responsible for their actions, even if the harm was unintentional. Therefore, this passage is the biblical model for any principled Unborn Victims of Crime Act. However, if the harm to the unborn in Exodus 21:22 spoke only of miscarriage, the teaching would then support legalized abortion by valuing the life of a fetus only with a fine, and only if the mother later died, would her death require taking the criminal's life. But note the word used to describe the consequence of the crime described in Exodus 21:22, "If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely," the Hebrew word for miscarriage, shaw-kole, is NOT used. If the baby came out dead, a monetary fine would indicate a less than human value for the life of the fetus. (And that is exactly how the pagan Code of Hammurabi, section 209, undervalued a child.) However, because Exodus 21:22 says premature birth, and not miscarriage, the passage does not support a right to kill an unborn child, as contended by many who mistranslate this text. Rather, the text values the unborn child's life equal to that of any other person. The author Moses (Mat. 12:26) mentions the idea of a baby coming out of the womb twice within three chapters. In Exodus 23:26, he uses the Hebrew word for miscarriage, speaking of barrenness and shaw-kole(miscarriage). But the word at Exodus 21:22 is yaw-tsaw, which means to come out, come forth, bring forth, and has no connotation of death but in fact the opposite. The Hebrew Scriptures use yaw-tsaw 1,043 times beginning with Genesis 1:24 where God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature…” In Genesis and Exodus alone Moses uses this word about 150 times such as in Genesis 25 describing the births of twins Jacob and Esau. Thus the Mosaic law requires the criminal to pay financial restitution to a woman unintentionally injured by a criminal if she "gives birth prematurely." But then if that living being dies (i.e., the baby, soul, nephesh, which Hebrew word is always feminine, e.g., Lev. 19:8; Ps. 11:1) the text then applies the full Hebrew idiom which means that the punishment should fit the crime. If there is harm beyond a premature birth, and the unborn child dies, then the punishment is "life for life."

As is common in Scripture, the Bible here refers to the fetus as a baby (brephos) and does not use non-human or non-personhood terms. In Greek: Ἐλισάβετ [Elizabeth] said that, τὸ βρέφος [transliteration brephos, babe, infant] ἐσκίρτησεν [leaped] ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ mοu [in my womb]. Thus the baby, who would be named John, experienced the emotion of joy when Mary, being pregnant with the incarnate Jesus, entered Elizabeth's home.

Can I ask you something? I just wanted to say I don't blame you for still supporting Seungri and ot5. I think you're being more honest and have more integrity than a lot of other people. But I'm genuinely curious what you think about the Seungri scandal? Do you think he's just a scapegoat for someone more powerful? Or what? What's your opinion on this?
Dear Anon, I’ve been mulling over how to best answer your ask because this is such a serious and sensitive topic. This is someone’s life we’re talking about. And there are very serious accusations being (not so lightly) tossed around by the public and the media.
So let me start with supporting Seungri and ot5. Because it’s not so black and white or as simple as supporting Ri or supporting ot5. This is a much deeper issue for me. I know I’ve said this before but it’s worth repeating. This issue is about someone’s basic human right to the presumption of innocence. To see people on this site and others stating “fuck innocent until proven guilty” and “I just know that he’s guilty” is not only disappointing but horrifying. Who are these people who think they can select who gets to have that right? Do they even understand the implications of those statements? I want anyone who has uttered those statements or something in a similar vein to include the name of someone they love dearly in there and let me know if they still feel the same way about the presumption of innocence.
I’ve also mentioned before that I am waiting for a final verdict. Because we don’t have all the information yet. No one does. Not even the police. And let’s face it the media has been less than forthcoming in their reporting. They’ve altered chats, left information out, and used Seungri’s name and photo as clickbait in articles that have nothing to do with him. And now we find out that 200 journalists, producers, and other media personnel were involved in a group chat where they requested and shared footage of the women who are the assault victims. Yet people will still blindly believe everything the media tells them. Even more concerning is that very few people seem to care about this group chat.
Do I think Seungri is a scapegoat for someone more powerful? This is a really hard question to answer because we don’t have all the information yet and there are so many intertwining parts to this issue. Is he the scapegoat to cover up Jang Ja Yeon’s death? There are rumors involving a Chosun executive and Jang Ja Yeon. Then there’s the former Burning Sun employee who said he would take everyone down using Seungri’s name. Is it a little bit of both? Tbh, I don’t know. I don’t know if we will ever know the truth about that. So what can we believe? What do I believe?
It’s been four months and Seungri has been investigated 17 times by the police. And they still don’t have enough for an arrest warrant. According to the police, there are 4 charges being filed against Seungri – prostitution, embezzlement, distribution of illegal material, and violation of the food sanitation law. Let’s look at each of these. The police have been trying to pin a prostitution charge on Seungri any way they can. From prostitution at his birthday party (where guests said the sex was consensual) to prostitution at the Gatsby Fantastic Festival (where Japanese investors have flatly denied that they took part in such activities and where the police refuse to hear testimony from them). I personally don’t have an issue with prostitution (as long as it is consensual) and I’ve noticed that some of the same people who are up in arms about the alleged prostitutes are also the same people who have posts on their blogs supporting sex workers. What do they think prostitutes are? And for those who believe Seungri sold women or young girls please provide your official police source for that information. So that brings us to embezzlement. The police are trying to claim that Seungri misappropriated funds from his own club, Monkey Museum. Those funds were used to retain a lawyer for a dj who worked at the club. The courts have upheld that there is no criminal liability if payment of lawyer’s fees are made to promote the company’s interests. Police also have tried to claim that money was funneled to Yuri Holdings by Burning Sun. That payment was for the brand use of the name Monkey Museum. Next is the charge of distribution of illegal material. Let’s just get this out of the way – Seungri was NOT in the molka gc. The charge of distribution of illegal materials stems over a photo he shared in a completely different gc of a partially clothed woman. The photo was not taken by Seungri and the woman was photographed with her consent. Lastly, we have the charge of violation of the food sanitation law. This charge was about Monkey Museum being registered as a restaurant. The fine for that charge has already been paid and is no longer relevant. All other allegations against Seungri (collusion, drug use, the police costume, etc.) have either been dropped or it was concluded that Seungri was not guilty.
I know someone is going to say that he knew what the others were doing. And I ask you how do you know that he knew what was going on in another chat that he wasn’t part of? Because of the 20 second video JJY posted in the business chat that Seungri told him to stop sending? How do you know Ri knew what that video was? If you opened a video and recognized your friend having sex would you continue to watch it? I’m guessing not. Would you automatically assume it was taken without consent? Would you ask? For all those who say he knew what his friends were doing, I ask you this question… tell me right now what the third conversation your mom (or sister, or dad, or bff, etc.) had yesterday was. Who was it with and what was the conversation about? I bet you can’t. These are people who are close to you and you probably don’t know. Yet people assume Seungri knows everything his friends and associates do.
You wanted to know what I think about the Seungri scandal. I’m afraid I don’t have all the answers because I don’t have all of the information. The investigation is still ongoing. And Seungri’s lawyer has said that we will hear Seungri’s side of all of this once the investigation is complete. I will continue to wait for all of the information to come in and to also hear Seungri’s side. At this point in the investigation though it seems to me that Seungri is being used as the face of this scandal because of his fame. Those who have actually been arrested are not getting nearly as much attention as Seungri has. You have to ask yourself why that is. Seungri is being tried by the media and public in a kangaroo court. I hope in the end justice will prevail and the victims will not be forgotten in all of this. I hope Seungri will be investigated fairly and that the facts will be reported accurately. I hope that the right people are punished for what they have done because punishing the wrong people won’t help the victims at all.

Part 20- I can’t lose you
Nobody got injured at the Homecoming ball, they all get separated into different safe houses- for safety.
Riley and Drake had confirmed that they had feelings for each other, however Drake believed Riley should be with Liam. Heartbroken, she moves back to New York. Only keeping in touch with Hana, Maxwell and Olivia.
Riley meets lawyer, Nate Cooper and begins a relationship with him. In Cordonia, Drake begins to court Kiara.
Nine months after Riley had left Cordonia- there is a reunion, but not the reunion the friends had hoped for.

Kiara didn’t know how to react, she didn’t need a man- she was the heir to her estate, she was intelligent, why was she obsessed with Drake? When she was younger she always fantasied about being with the muscly commoner. Everyone looked down their noses at the Walker’s after Jackson tragically passed away. But not Kiara. She stayed civil with everyone, she taught Savannah Walker french before she abruptly left. Doing this, she had hoped it would bring her and Drake closer.
Kiara’s daydream was shortly interrupted, her head turned towards the wooden door swiftly like a meerkat. Drake’s body froze, his hand remained on the door knob. The vein in her neck became distended- she definitely didn’t trust the two of them now.
“WALKER! SIT DOWN!”
“Kiara, you have a problem with me not Drake. You and I can sort this. Just let him go. When the atmosphere is better, you two can sort this out. I’m sure he will forgive you. Right Drake?”
“Have you lost your brain cells Brooks? No chance in hell am I forgiving her!”
Riley grabbed Kiara’s hand, holding it tightly. Her baby blues, fixated on the insecure woman stood in front of her.
“Kiara, he doesn’t mean it he’s angry. You’re angry. Just both calm down. We can get through this.”
“We? Because you’re always involved aren’t you Riley.”
“I- I meant you two can sort it out. I promise you Ki, that I won’t tell anyone. I’ll just say to Liam that I was tired so I went straight to bed. It’s the first time I’ve drank alcohol in weeks- it’s a reliable story. Please. What else can I do to persuade you?”
“You should have never come back! You don’t belong here.”
Riley hated how everyone treat her using her commoner status. Everyone is equal she believed. No matter what status they had.
“Maybe I don’t belong here, maybe it was fate that I’m here. But between you and Madeleine, you two belong elsewhere too! You both need your heads looking at!”
“Brooks! Keep that big American mouth of yours shut!”
“Fuck you Walker! We wouldn’t be in this situation if you kept your dick in your pants and respected women!”
Kiara couldn’t cope with the two of them arguing. She had paranoid thoughts that this would bring them closer- Riley was sticking up for her. Was this a ploy to escape? Kiara didn’t care. She dragged Drake to the floor.
“Do you love me Drake?”
“No!”
“Do you love her?”
“I did!”
“If Liam wasn’t around, would you jump straight back into her arms?”
“I- I.. Kiara this ends now! Just let her go back to Liam. Please.”
“Don’t avoid the question!”
“Yes, I probably would! Happy now?”
“Wrong answer!”
Kiara turned to Riley, pushing her against the wall. Her eyes narrowed, as she put her hands around the American’s neck. Riley was furious with Drake. Why couldn’t he just lie?
“Lady Riley. Now it’s your turn... if Liam wasn’t around would you jump back into Drake’s arms?”
“No.....”
“You’ve done it before. So why not now?”
“Kiara you’re hurting me.... please .... just please.... believe me. Drake is my friend.... if you hurt us....”
“Oh if I hurt you, you think your King will save you both? No chance, Riley! Whilst you’re still here Drake is still going to want you.”
“Kiara.... I ... I can’t breath!”
“Kiara let her go!”
“SIT WALKER! IM NOT DONE WITH HER YET!”
“Ki... I love Liam.... please.... “
Kiara removed herself from Riley, creating little distance- pulling the knife out of her bra. She glided the knife across Riley’s neck. The cold blade, caused shock through Riley’s body.
“Riley you know I can’t let you stay. You say you love Liam. But here in Cordonia we have arrangements within marriage.”
“I’m... I’m... not like... that. I’d have done... it when... he was engaged to her....”
“Riley. Pick! You or him?”
“Me....Do what you want to me....”
“No Riley! Are you fucking crazy? You have a good future ahead of you. Kiara if you are going to hurt anyone it’s going to be me.”
“Aw Ri, he’s still playing hero for you.”
Riley felt the tip of the blade now against her abdomen. Closing her eyes, it felt like time had frozen. All she could think about was Liam, and the time during the social season.
I’m glad to have met you, Riley. I’ll never forget this night.
Riley... I never thought I’d see you again.
If I’m being honest, I was just thinking about you.
You look so beautiful in the firelight. Riley, I’ve never really had someone that I wanted to please so badly. I feel like I’d do anything to see you smile and know that I was the cause.
It is said that if two lovers climb to the top of the waterfall and jump in together, they’ll get the blessing of the lady of the waterfall.

I’m always happy when I’m with you Lady Riley. I’ve been trying to imagine what type of Queen you would be if we were to be wed.
What I really want is to have a family. Maybe not this year or the next but eventually..... the most precious thing anyone has is time. You never know just how much you have left. And when it’s gone.. it’s gone.
The last memory hit Riley, she needed to fight. She needed to get to Liam- to tell him how much he meant to her, and that she regretted every moment she had lost with him in the past. Feeling Kiara turn and twist the tip of the knife against her abdomen, she knew somehow she had to knock the knife out of her hand. As she opened her eyes, her vision went into slow motion as she saw Drake sprint into Kiara, tackling her to the floor. The knife fell a distance, out of everyone’s reach.
“Kiara, ENOUGH! This has to end NOW!”
Anger in his voice, that Riley had never witnessed before apart from in Applewood. He had risked his life again for her. Riley looked sadly at Drake who had stopped restraining a now unconscious Kiara on the floor.
“Brooks! Get out now!”
“I- I can’t leave you...I can’t even find the key!”
Drake stood up leaving Kiara on the floor, frantically both of them began looking for a key. Riley removed a hair grip out of her messed up hair, hoping that it would unlock the door.
“It’s not working! The window! We have to jump!”
Riley grabbed Drake’s hand, leading him to the window. She would rather have broken limbs than be butchered to death.
“She’s locked it! Pass me your bottle of whiskey! We have to smash the window!”
“Are you crazy?”
“Drake, I will personally buy you whiskey for the rest of your lifetime. Please... it’s our only way out!”
Drake hesitantly handed the bottle over. Both of them taking a swig from the bottle before attempting to smash the window- glass from the brown bottle shattered. Riley stared in the windows reflection, feeling defeated that the window itself didn’t smash. Of course she was in a palace, the windows were probably bulletproof. In disbelief, she saw Kiara rise from the floor, pointing the knife towards them- her eyes widened as she predicted what was going to happen.
“DRAKE! MOVE!”
In slow motion, Riley felt the heavy weight lean into her body. Losing her balance, they both fell to the floor.
“I’m so sorry Drake. I loved you.”
“Love? Are you fucking serious Kiara? You’ve just literally stabbed him in the back!”
Riley slowly stood up, trembling- her hands now painted red with Drake’s blood. Adrenaline now taking over she ran over to Kiara, with a shard of glass from the whiskey bottle. Threatening the noble lady.
“Kiara, I swear to god- give me the key! He needs medical assistance!”
Kiara stood, smirking at Riley. No other expression was shown.
“You have five minutes to save him, Lady Riley.”
Riley looked confused as Kiara entered the bathroom, running the bath. She ran over to Drake, knowing she had to find the stab wound and prevent anymore bleeding. Raiding through his wardrobe, she could only find his usual white shirts and denim jackets- it’ll have to do.
Riley placed pressure on the wound and cradled Drake in her arms, hoping her friend would pull through. She wondered where the others were, as far as she was concerned she had been gone too long.
“Drake, why do you always have to act like the hero? Come on. You can’t die on me. You’ve already dodged a bullet. What’s next eh?”
“Br-Brooks....”
“Drake? Come on! Open those brown eyes wider! We have five minutes to get out.”
“Say... goodbye... to everyone. I love Liam... Max... Savannah.. Bartie... Hana... and you.”
“We love you too! You are not leaving us! I’m in love with Liam but I love ya, I always will...you’re my best friend. Don’t tell Hana or Max though.”
Before Drake could respond, he saw Riley’s sad facial expression turn to into grimace. A tear fell from her face effortlessly, before her face head butt his shoulder. Her hair whipped onto his face leaving a lingering sting.
“Goodbye you two...” - Kiara snarled as she removed the whiskey bottle glass shard out of Riley’s back. Blood began pouring like a waterfall- it was never ending.

The men raced up to Drake’s room, they had hoped that the door was open. The guards entered with armed weapons, searching the room for Kiara. Bastien swallowed hard as he entered. Shaking, he picked up his phone demanding for medical assistance immediately and commanded that the palace was searched for Kiara.
Liam attempted to barge through the crowd. Bastien heard the commotion, he stood in front of Liam, placing his hands on the Kings shoulders.
“Sir, please. It’s not a nice sight.”
“Bastien I don’t care! Let me in!”
Liam’s heart felt as if it had stopped. He ran over to Riley, scooping her up in his arms, whilst Leo tried to help Drake.
“Ri, please don’t leave me. I can’t lose you.”
Liam remained cradling Riley in his arms. He felt as if his whole world had collapsed- he didn’t know how many more tears his body could produce. The paramedics arrived and immediately began to save their saves- they were both given oxygen. Leo hugged his brother as the two victims were escorted out of the room.

“Riley Brooks, aged 25. Stab wound in the lumbar region. She still has a pulse, but it’s weak. The bleeding is being controlled every so often, she needs immediate surgery.”
“Drake Walker, aged 28. He also had a stab wound to the back. His pulse is also weak. The bleeding is now controlled. But he needs to be seen urgently.”
The guests all waited all the bottom of the stairs. They heard the paramedic on the phone to ER. Madeline wasn’t lying. Their friends were fighting for their lives. Reality hit when they saw Riley and Drake’s bodies on stretchers, being escorted outside to the ambulances.
The friends all witnessed Liam barely holding it together. No wonder. Olivia walked over to him, placing a comforting hand on his arm.
“Li, they are both alive. They are both fighters. They will survive this and fight.”
Liam tried to compose himself, as he had an audience gawping at the scene.
“Liv... I can’t lose either of them. I’ll keep you all updated. Can you keep me updated on Kiara’s whereabouts? One thing I’m sure about- if they both die, Kiara’s a dead woman!”

Retaliation against physicians reporting EHR flaws that cause use errors? Physicians subpoenaed in Rhode Island, allegedly after reporting EHR risks
It appears that way to my eye. First, on use errors (as opposed to user errors from carelessness):
“Use error” is a term used very specifically by NIST to refer to user interface designs that will engender users to make errors of commission or omission. The Rhode Island Department of Health reportedly has served at least four emergency room physicians at Providence-based Rhode Island Hospital with subpoenas, according to the Politico Morning eHealth newsletter.
The subpoenas allege the physicians participated in behaviors that fall under the umbrella of medical misconduct, on account of mistakes the physicians reported themselves. The mistakes, which didn't injure any patients, reportedly were meant to draw attention to risks associated with the hospital's EHR.
This is outrageous if accurate, especially considering the issues I raised in my Nov. 4, 2011 post "Lifespan (Rhode Island): Yet another health IT 'glitch' affecting thousands - that, of course, caused no patient harm that they know of - yet" at https://hcrenewal.blogspot.com/2011/11/lifespan-rhode-island-yet-another.html.
The RI Dept. of Health OH owes the public an explanation.
The subpoenas primarily relate to medical scans, such as X-rays, which were mistakenly ordered by the physicians. EHR experts who spoke with Politico said these errors are common because it's easy to click on the wrong icon or patient name in complex system interfaces.
That is classic "use error" and results from poorly-designed, mission-hostile user interfaces of bad health IT as defined by myself and Australian informatics expert Dr. Jon Patrick at at http://cci.drexel.edu/faculty/ssilverstein/cases/:
Bad health IT is IT that is ill-suited to purpose, hard to use, unreliable, loses data or provides incorrect data, is difficult and/or prohibitively expensive to customize to the needs of different medical specialists and subspecialists, causes cognitive overload, slows rather than facilitates users, lacks appropriate alerts, creates the need for hypervigilance (i.e., towards avoiding IT-related mishaps) that increases stress, is lacking in security, compromises patient privacy, lacks evidentiary soundness permitting concealment of alterations, or otherwise demonstrates suboptimal design and/or implementation.

Physicians and EHR safety researchers have raised concerns over the subpoenas, suggesting that the department's response could discourage future clinicians from voluntarily reporting medical errors.
Not "could."
Will, and likely by design in my opinion. The ultimate motive for the subpoenas and those behind them, which may extend outside the DOH, needs to be determined.
"Anyone punishing individual providers for these events is punishing the wrong thing," Jason Adelman, MD, chief patient safety officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, told Politico. "These are system issues, not the provider being reckless. The focus should be on things like EHR usability and safety."
I am aware of patient injuries and deaths as a result of mis-clicks due to mission-hostile user interfaces that confuse users and lack appropriate safety alerts and notifications. This includes ER mistakes.
The corporate response followed the expected boilerplate:
When asked about the subpoenas Jan. 25, Rhode Island Hospital spokesperson David Levesque [Director of Media Relations, Lifespan, https://www.lifespan.org/news-events/news/media-contacts] provided the following statement to Becker's Hospital Review:
"Rhode Island Hospital is deeply committed to the safety of our patients and the continual improvement of our healthcare environment, including the processes our caregivers and staff follow. Furthermore, the hospital's culture of transparency remains a point of pride and is unwavering. Rhode Island Hospital supports our world-class physicians, nurses and other staff and appreciate their tirelessly work in providing world-class healthcare."
As one colleague of mine observed, "the hospital's culture of transparency remains a point of pride" seems to mean that "you can prosecute staff for being transparent", and it is not a contradiction.

After the debacle I documented at https://hcrenewal.blogspot.com/2011/11/lifespan-rhode-island-yet-another.html , I think this is an outrage.
I am passing this story on to trial lawyers who will likely pass it to the national trial lawyer's listserv. I believe these actions are retaliation against the physicians.
I am aware of patient injuries and deaths following "wrong clicks" in ER's.

I hope I am wrong about the retaliation issue, and that this has all been a misunderstanding. Perhaps Mr. Levesque will clarify. Perhaps the subpoenas against the physicians who reported the EHR use error issue were issued by the DOH to gain more information about the alleged EHR problems. If not, I hope they will be summarily dropped.
If not, I hope the matter gets wider attention, especially at a time when bad health IT is contributing considerably to clinician burnout per numerous studies and reports (see for instance my Jan. 23, 2019 post at https://hcrenewal.blogspot.com/2019/01/experts-declare-physician-burnout.html).
Supposed accusations of any type of "professional misconduct" are outrageous, and will have a chilling effect on other like-minded, candid clinicians (including nurses) confronting bad health IT.
