Pontiac Bonneville Custom Convertible, 1959. The second generation Bonneville marked two important milestones for Pontiac. As well as becoming a full line with hardtop sedan and wagons (previously the Bonneville had only been available as a coupe or convertible) it introduced the split grille and the "Wide Track" slogan. The Wide Track wasn't just ad copy, it had a front tread width of 63.7in and rear tread at 64in as opposed to other GM products with a 61in width front and rear. In doing so, Pontiac created what were considered to be the best-cornering full-size cars in the industry. Both features remained central to the Pontiac brand up until it's demise

Pontiac Grand Ville
The early 1970s were good times for the Pontiac Motor Division. During the 1960s, the company re-imagined itself, becoming a leader in several car model segments with high annual production. In 1971, Pontiac decided to enter the luxury car segment by introducing a new, top-of-the-line model called the Grand Ville. At that time, the Bonneville was Pontiac’s premium model, and it did the job well. With several body styles available, a nice lineup of engines, and lots of optional extras, the Bonneville sold reasonably well. In fact, it was considered a wise choice in the luxury car field. However, Pontiac wanted something closer to the Cadillac or Oldsmobile than to the Chevrolet Caprice. So they presented the Pontiac Grand Ville using a Bonneville platform and most of the sheet metal, but with a few trim details to differentiate the two models.

Pontiac Grand Ville
The Bonneville stayed in production, but they downgraded it below the Grand Ville. Pontiac decided to offer a 400 HP V8 engine as standard and a 455 HP as an optional engine, as well as a high level of equipment. But for those who wanted something extra, Pontiac offered a leather interior, climate control, and a heavy-duty suspension. They also included an AM/FM radio, and even adjustable brakes and accelerator pedals. They made the Grand Ville in a two or four-door hardtop, as well as a luxury convertible. However, the market didn’t respond all that well, so sales figures were low. At the same time, the energy crisis hit the U.S., so those big gas guzzlers fell out of favor with most customers. They discontinued production of the Grand Ville in 1975. This returned the Bonneville to the top spot in their main model lineup.

Today we remember the passing of  Nuta Kotlyarenko aka Nudie Cohn who Died: May 9, 1984 in Burbank, California
Nuta Kotlyarenko, known professionally as Nudie Cohn, was an American tailor who designed decorative rhinestone-covered suits, known popularly as "Nudie Suits", and other elaborate outfits for some of the most famous celebrities of his era. He also became famous for his outrageous customized automobiles.
Kotlyarenko was born in Kiev on December 15, 1902, to a Ukrainian Jewish family. To escape the pogroms of Czarist Russia, his parents sent him at age 11, with his brother, Julius, to America. For a time he criss-crossed the country, working as a shoeshine boy and later a boxer, and hanging out, he later claimed, with the gangster Pretty Boy Floyd. While living in a boardinghouse in Mankato, Minnesota, he met Helen "Bobbie" Kruger, and married her in 1934. In the midst of the Great Depression the newlyweds moved to New York City and opened their first store, "Nudie's for the Ladies", specializing in custom-made undergarments for showgirls.
Cohn and Kruger relocated to California in the early 1940s, and began designing and manufacturing clothing in their garage. In 1947 Cohn persuaded a young, struggling country singer named Tex Williams to buy him a sewing machine with the proceeds of an auctioned horse. In exchange, Cohn made clothing for Williams. As their creations gained a following, the Cohns opened "Nudie's of Hollywood" on the corner of Victory and Vineland in North Hollywood, dealing exclusively in western wear, a style very much in fashion at the time.
Cohn's designs brought the already-flamboyant western style to a new level of ostentation with the liberal use of rhinestones and themed images in chain stitch embroidery. One of his early designs, in 1962, for singer Porter Wagoner, was a peach-colored suit featuring rhinestones, a covered wagon on the back, and wagon wheels on the legs. He offered the suit to Wagoner for free, confident that the popular performer (like Tex Williams) would serve as a billboard for his clothing line. His confidence proved justified and the business grew rapidly. In 1963 the Cohns relocated their business to a larger facility on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood and renamed it "Nudie's Rodeo Tailors".
Many of Cohn's designs became signature looks for their owners. Among his most famous creations was Elvis Presley's $10,000 gold lamé suit worn by the singer on the cover of his 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong album. Cohn created Hank Williams' white cowboy suit with musical notations on the sleeves, and Gram Parsons' infamous suit for the cover of the Flying Burrito Brothers' 1969 album The Gilded Palace of Sin, featuring pills, poppies, marijuana leaves, naked women, and a huge cross. He designed the iconic costume worn by Robert Redford in the 1979 film Electric Horseman, which was exhibited by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
Many of the film costumes worn by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were Nudie designs. John Lennon was a customer, as were John Wayne, Gene Autry, George Jones, Cher, Ronald Reagan, Elton John, Robert Mitchum, Pat Buttram, Tony Curtis, Michael Landon, Glen Campbell, Michael Nesmith, Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, and numerous musical groups, notably America and Chicago. ZZ Top band members Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill sported Nudie suits on the cover photo of their 1975 album Fandango!.
In 2006, Porter Wagoner said he had accumulated 52 Nudie suits, costing between $11,000 and $18,000 each, since receiving his first free outfit in 1962. The Belgian entertainer Bobbejaan Schoepen was a client and personal friend; his collection of 35 complete stage outfits is the largest in Europe.
Cohn strutted around town in his own outrageous suits and rhinestone-studded cowboy hats. His sartorial trademark was mismatched boots, which he wore, he said, to remember his humble beginnings in the 1930s when he could not afford a matching pair of shoes. He shamelessly promoted himself and his products throughout his career.
Cohn was equally famous for his garishly decorated automobiles. Between 1950 and 1975 he customized 18 vehicles, mostly white Pontiac Bonneville convertibles, with silver-dollar-studded dashboards, pistol door handles and gearshifts, extended rear bumpers, and enormous longhorn steer horn hood ornaments. They were nicknamed "Nudie Mobiles", and the nine surviving cars have become valued collector's items. A Bonneville convertible designed for country singer Webb Pierce is on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. A Pontiac Grand Ville convertible customized by Nudie can be seen at the end of the 1988 Buck Owens/Dwight Yoakam music video, "The Streets of Bakersfield." That same car—which Owens's manager claims was originally built for Elvis Presley—now hangs over the bar inside Buck Owens's Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California. Two Nudie Mobiles owned by Schoepen remain on display at Bobbejaanland, a Western-themed amusement park near Brussels.
Nudie Cohn died in 1984 at the age of 81. Numerous celebrities and long-time customers attended his funeral. The eulogy was delivered by Dale Evans. Nudie's Rodeo Tailors remained open for an additional ten years under the ownership of Nudie's widow Bobbie and granddaughter Jamie, and closed in 1994.
Cohn's creations, particularly those with celebrity provenance, remain popular with Country/Western and show business collectors, and continue to command high prices when they come on the market. In December 2009, for example, a white Nudie stage shirt owned by Roy Rogers, decorated with blue tassels and red musical notes, sold for $16,250 at a Christie's auction. A Nudie shirt worn by Johnny Cash as grand marshal of the 1976 American Bicentennial Grand Parade in Washington, D.C., and in several subsequent stage performances, sold at auction for $25,000 in 2010.

When Pontiac owner lose or want to copy his key, the chip has to be programmed with a new key-code so it would be detected by the ECU.
Several vehicle makers models and years extend dash-board provision for addition of keys, however if all keys are lost, the engine control module has to be rekeyed by compatible key programming machine owned by the dealer-ship or a locksmith.

Harley Earl: Father of Automotive Design, Part Two
This is the second in a two part series. Read Part One.
Harley Earl and General Motors During World War II
As America entered World War II General Motor's production of civilian cars and trucks stopped in order for GM to build transportation for the military. Earl's design innovations allowed GM to manufacture and market their automobiles faster than their competitors. In fact, around this time Earl became known as the "so much faster" guy.4 GM introduced Earl's design principles to the United States military officials and explained how these ideas would give the country “an edge over how it's enemies build their war time products”4.
During the war “Earl [also] established a camouflage research and training division at General Motors”1. As women were entering the wartime job force in GM's factories, Earl was hiring women to work as designers in the  Art and Color Section. These women eventually became known as the “Damsels of Design”4,5. By the 1950s Earl had at least one woman designer working on each of his design teams.

Earl Sparks Controversy with GM Management
In the 1950s “America's auto industry [was] heralded as the crown jewel of the business world”4. The automobile industry was the nation's technology leader. In 1951, Earl's most famous concept car was introduced -- the Buick Le Sabre. The design work for the Le Sabre began shortly after WWII had ended. the Le Sabre was intended to be a “super streamlined” car.6  The front of the automobile resembled an airplane fuselage; on its rear were tail fins that would be featured on many other automobile designs of the decade. The La Sabre was Earl's most expensive prototype up to this time, costing about a million dollars to produce.
Tumblr media

In 1953 Earl introduced GM's first sports car the iconic fiberglass bodied Corvette which took much of its styling from the Le Sabre.4 Other concept cars Earl designed in the 1950s were the Bonneville Special which featured a plexiglas bubble top and the XP-21 Firebird, a turbine engine powered car that resembled a rocket ship more than a car. Unlike many of Earl's earlier designs the Firebird was devoid of ornamentation as efficiency and performance were the its primary characteristics.5
Tumblr media

Unfortunately Earl’s road ahead was not a smooth one. Many of company's engineers resented Earl’s great success4. Many male engineers and designers strongly disagreed with Earl's insistence that his female designers were just as talented as his male designers. The women designers’ presence in the “GM Styling Section created a firestorm of tension”4.
Another source of controversy occurred in 1956 when Earl's son Jerry entered competitive automobile racing, and Earl had GM's new Tech Center build a custom race car for Jerry “to take on the U.S. racing circuit. It was named the Corvette SR-2”4.
Tumblr media

Earl's tremendous success also caused animosity between Earl and GM upper management. Earl was intent on giving his staff full credit for their successes and often threw lavish parties for his designers paid for out of his department's budget. This added to the rancor between Earl and the company's executives.
Harley Earl's Legacy
Harley Earl retired from General Motors in 1958 having more influence on the company, its products, design processes, marketing and of our its success than any other individual in the firm's history. At the time of Earl's retirement  General Motors was world's the largest corporation.1 Many of GM's “top designers began jockeying for position to become the next Earl of Detroit”6. Earl was succeeded as the vice-president of “the Design and Styling Department by Bill Mitchell,” although while quite influential in his own right, Mitchell never reached Earl's level of design leadership or innovation.
Earl died of a stroke in 1969 at the age of 75 in West Palm Beach, Florida.1“He was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1986”1. A miniature replica of Earl's Firebird concept car graces the top of the Harley J. Earl Trophy given to “the winner of the season-opening Daytona 500 NASCAR race”1.

The Spirit of ’76: The Plucky Thrift of the Honda Civic
-
If you were born around the nation’s Bicentennial and grew up in one of America’s more import-friendly environs, a used first-generation Honda Civic was not an uncommon sight among freshly divorced parents of either gender. A friend’s father was part of the growing single-parent demographic, scrambling to make ends meet on a state laborer’s salary. While he was saving to buy a house of his own, Greg’s Honda CB750 sat neglected in front of their fourplex alongside the ’66 Bonneville convertible he figured he’d get around to fixing up one of these days. In the interim, the trusty Civic, with its Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion engine, got him to and from work.
-
-
Even in lefty California, prejudice against the little cars was high among those who’d never sampled their joys. And in the mid-’80s, there were plenty of folks clinging to their Pontiac J2000s, K-cars, and Ford Tempos. By the end of the decade, however, the Civic had become a wholly respectable choice and, with the introduction of the Si, even a desirable one.
-
But it all began with that first Civic, introduced here for the 1973 model year as the successor to the tiny 600, while the ingenious CVCC engine arrived for 1975. Its timing was auspicious. Though other cars on dealer lots were saddled with catalytic converters, which required unleaded fuel, the little CVCC’s head design meant it was able to make do without even in stringent California, allowing it to run on whatever form of gasoline was cheap and available.
-
-
The SOHC 1.5-liter 12-valver, equipped with a three-barrel carburetor, wound out a whopping 52 horsepower at 5000 rpm. If that sounds woefully underwhelming, it should be noted that a 5.7-liter Chevrolet V-8 with a two-barrel made 145 horsepower that year. If the V-8 had been making as much power per cubic centimeter as the CVCC, it would’ve been pushing 200. Which still doesn’t sound like much, but, hey, we refer to it as the Malaise Era for a reason.

What we have here, courtesy of the Hemmings classifieds, is a 1976 model featuring a four-speed manual transmission. According to the seller, the car seems largely original, although the ad does note that the engine bay could use a deep and thorough cleaning. If the ’73 OPEC oil embargo was the first giant meteor to hit the U.S. auto industry, the widespread deployment of the smog pump and the catalytic converter for ’75 was the second. Meanwhile, little critters like the ingenious Civic were waiting in the wings, ready to take over from the big-bodied Yankee dinosaurs. They were considered disposable stopgaps by American customers like Greg at the time, so there aren’t a ton of these little machines left—and certainly not many in the fine condition this orange 1976 example appears to be in. In that light, and given its place of import in Honda’s history, the $16,995 ask, if high, doesn’t seem wholly out of line.

Last Rides: The Last Cars Built by Now-Dead Car Brands
The end of the road. It comes for all of us, and it has come for many automobile brands. The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805–1942 lists 141 brands as having operated just in Connecticut, historically not exactly a hotbed of the automobile industry. Locomobile you may have heard of, but probably not Swan, which hailed from Middletown, or Clapp, the pride of New Haven. The early days of the auto industry were littered with failed brands, and more than a few have expired in more recent years, too. Some went out in a blaze of glory, others skulked off into history in ignominious defeat. Mostly it’s the latter, as we will see in this examination of the very final cars ever built by now-dead automobile brands.
Pontiac It’s a long, long way from the pavement-scorching GTO and the swaggering Grand Prixs and Bonnevilles of Pontiac’s 1960s heyday to the soulless appliance that was the G6, the final product of the division that once boasted “We Build Excitement.” Characteristically, the last G6 was a white sedan and it was part of a fleet order. It rolled off the line in April 2009. If you count foreign markets, however, the last Pontiac built was a G3 Wave—a subcompact never sold in the U.S. That model was made in Mexico until December 2009, although that isn’t really a happier ending.
Oldsmobile There was no Rocket V-8 engine in the last Oldsmobile made, nor was there a “Cutlass” nameplate anywhere on the body. The last car from a brand that once defined middle-class aspiration was an Alero, a far from aspirational and totally forgettable compact. GM didn’t want to forget it, though, so the Dark Cherry Metallic four-door went to the GM Heritage Collection. Thinking better of it later, GM sold off the car in December 2017, and it fetched an entirely un-Alerolike $42K.
youtube
Hummer The original, ex-military Hummer H1 is the model that captivated Arnold Schwarzenegger and many others, but that ultra-Hummer was long gone from the lineup when the brand was retired during the GM bankruptcy. The last Hummer built is believed to be a black H3T, the pickup version of the smaller, Chevy Colorado–based H3. Its trip down the assembly line was broadcast on the Today Show, in a segment that should have included Arnold Schwarzenegger, so he could have delivered his signature line as a hopeful message for the brand’s devotees: “I’ll be back.”
Mercury The final Mercury produced was a Grand Marquis in 2011—fitting, since that was the last new car for so many of the brand’s customers. Sadly, it was part of a fleet order. The final models of the Grand Marquis got an “Ultimate Edition” badge and were commemorated with special plaque.
Plymouth The Neon, a car that introduced itself with “Hi.” ended up being the last Plymouth to say “Bye.” The final Plymouth ever built was a silver 2001 Neon LX with a five-speed manual, and it sold to a Chrysler VP with a collection of vintage cars.
AMC It could be argued that AMC went out on a high note. Its all-wheel-drive Eagle coupes, sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons—adapted from the humble Concord and Spirit—are seen by many as pioneering crossover vehicles. The last-ever AMC was an ’88 Eagle wagon in dark blue with woodgrain, built on December 11, 1987. An AMC enthusiast, Alan Strang, seeking to buy the last Eagle built, states that he called the assembly plant, tracked to car to a dealer in Oklahoma City, and brought that Eagle home to California.
Saturn Tremendous fanfare greeted Saturn’s debut—GM chairman Roger Smith’s grand experiment that was supposed to change both the auto-buying experience as well as the worker/management relationship. But when the end came for the brand, GM brought the curtain down hard. After a proposal to hand off the Saturn brand to Roger Penske fell apart, GM shut down production the next day, October 1, 2009. There was no time for any Final Edition or Collectors’ Series models, and no wistful Hal Raney and Partners TV footage of the final Saturn rolling off the line. What that car was exactly, we do not know, but it’s possible that you’ve driven it. All 2010-model-year Saturns were sold to rental-car companies.
youtube
Saab Much like the brand itself, Saab’s demise was a little weird. A white 9-3 sedan is recognized as the last Saab ever built, and that car is enshrined in a museum in Sweden. Production of the 9-3 was later restarted, however, although those cars were EVs and badged as NEVS not Saab. Then there were the handful 9-3 convertibles that were unfinished when the line shut down but were completed later, two months after the factory closed. One of those 47 convertibles likely is the actual last Saab built. At least until some other auto-industry hopeful applies the paddles to Saab’s moribund corpse.
Eagle Eagle, the brand—as opposed to Eagle, the model—spent almost the entirety of its forgettable existence as a nameplate stuck onto someone else’s cars, eithers Renaults or Mitsubishis. The most successful of those rebadging attempts was the Talon sports coupe, a version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse that was available with all-wheel drive. It’s fitting, then, that the last Eagle built was a second-generation, 1998-model-year Talon.
Merkur Ford wanted in on the Yuppie-fueled import boom of the mid-1980s, so it imported two European Fords, giving them the vaguely German-sounding nameplate, Merkur. The Merkur XR4Ti, née Ford Sierra, was a sporty two-door hatchback. It was joined in 1988 by the larger four-door Scorpio, also a hatch. Neither was terribly effective at enticing suspenders-wearing strivers away from the Saabs, Bimmers, and Benzes of the day. The XR4Ti lasted through 1989, while the Scorpio limped into 1990.
Sterling A Rover-built variant of the Acura Legend, the Sterling sedans (and later hatchbacks) might have combined British luxury with Japanese reliability. They might have, but didn’t. Launched in 1987, Sterling almost immediately earned a reputation for poor quality, which torpedoed sales. 1991 was the final model year. The sedans were the 827S and 827SL; the hatchbacks were the 827Si and 827SLi. The British announced their departure in August of 1991, but they did so with a stiff upper lip, running a print ad that equated the Sterling with “some things America was not ready for,” such as King George and a punk rocker with a rainbow mohawk.
Scion “Hope I die before I get old” could have been the motto for Scion, Toyota’s obsessively youth-focused division that didn’t live to see its 20th birthday. The brand was born in 2003, and the last new model Scion introduced was the 2016 tC Release Series 10.0, unveiled at the 2016 New York auto show. It’s not known whether the tC ended being the last car built to wear a Scion badge, however. It could have been a Scion iA, iM, or an FR-S coupe. The tC died with Scion, however, while the other three morphed into Toyotas.
Geo Could import intenders be enticed into a Chevrolet dealership if the small cars they were shopping had a globe logo rather than a Chevrolet badge? That seemed to be the thinking behind Geo. The brand introduced itself in the 1980s with the tagline, “Get to know Geo,” but after 1997, the brand’s final model year, the thinking seemed to be, “Forget you know Geo.” The Metro, Prizm, and Tracker all became Chevrolets for 1998. The Metro lived on until 2000, the Prizm through 2002, the Tracker survived until 2004.

Passing the 200mph Torch – Carl Dillon Takes Real Street in ECTA/HOT ROD Top Speed Challenge
While many race cars are an extension of their drivers, others are more like a Greek torch: passed along, racer by racer, in a unified pursuit of speed. For the Rydin Decal team – consisting of Mark Weiler, Carl Dillon, Ed Sellers, Eric Gellman, Jeff Gentry, Greg Drake, Tony Hill, Chris Seidel, Jacob Bell and Jay Bell – their AA/FRS 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am is the metaphorical flame they carry to 200mph in the ECTA and in HOT ROD Magazine’s Top Speed Challenge. “It all really started though when Mark Weiler, of Rydin Decal, started getting interested in Land Speed Racing,” Jay told us. “He really wanted to run Bonneville. Then he started driving some of our cars, and we got him in the Two Vlub, and then got him into the Three Club at Bonneville, and it all snowballed from there.”
The team had built and run two other third-generation Firebirds in land speed racing, nicknamed “Violet” and “Ethyl,” but for the Top Speed Challenge, they wanted a fresh start to implement some of the high-speed lessons they had learned at the Salt Flats and various runways of mile-racing. Violet was sold and Ethyl was eventually retired, but Mark picked up this roller and stuffed it in the garage for the right time. The chassis was originally built by Jim Ruttman, the brother of NASCAR’s Joe Ruttman, for NHRA Super Gas racing in the 1980s, but Mark wiped the dust off of it when looking for the next land speed car, which would be primarily driven by Jay. With minor updates, the car was ready for ECTA and the Top Speed Challenge. In it, he won the 2016 Top Speed Challenge at Wilmington’s Ohio Mile. For this race, the team needed to replace the previously-eviscerated axle for a new Winters quick-change unit, and they fabricated a custom seat for Carl, who stands a good foot taller than most of the Rydin Decal crew.
“We used to pick classes according to the engines, we used to run small-blocks and big-blocks. We’ve done alcohol, we’ve done Pro Chargers, typical superchargers, we’ve even done it naturally-aspirated – but we never perfected any of it, so we now stick to one. The engine we have now was in Ethyl with a Pro Charger on it, and we went and rebuilt it for nitrous.”
Seidle Motorsports of Ridgeway, VA built the 565ci Dart big-block that was previously Pro Charged in their prior LSR Firebird, Ethyl, and it was retooled using a Callies rotating assembly with Diamond 13:1 pistons for the nitrous. The refreshed short block was topped by pair of heads from Sonny Leonard’s that were massaged by Seidle before they wrapped everything up with Jessel shaft-mount rockers along with titanium valves and retainers. Induction Solutions modified the Sonny’s hi-rise intake for a 500-shot nitrous fogger system, which is topped by a massive, 1,800cfm Pro System SV1 carb – a single-barrel carb that could swallow a softball.
At full-tilt, the combo produces around 1,500 hp according to Jay, but Lucy was weaned off the laughing gas for Arkansas due to the lack of runs. “We did not spray because we didn’t have enough passes, we only got to race that one day,” Jay said. “Even Carl’s 203.6 was licensing pass, he had to run close to 200 before we could turn him loose.” After chasing the 2015 Top Speed Challenge with a TH400 that erupted its case like Kilauea, the team eventually switched over to a Bruno Converter Drive-equipped, three-speed G-Force transmission that has stayed together to this day. “Now I can reproduce each tune each year, I can go back to a setup if I go the wrong direction. Where before, we had so much data that didn’t make sense because every engine was different,” Jay continued.
During all of this, Carl had crewed on the cars while building his own diesel truck for land speed racing, which him and Jay allegedly blew up. “We scraped some parts together and were throwing an engine together when Carl started running with us,” he recalled. “We put his name on the car and didn’t tell him, he just kept working on it and walking by. Finally we had to tell him we made him a part of the official team!”
With crew, there’s a real sense of selflessness that’s required to maintain the machine during the race weekend so that someone else, the driver, can run with the glory after the race – and good teams are cognizant of this tireless work. “He’s also got a streamlined diesel truck, but we broke it the first time out, and we haven’t put it back together yet! So that’s when we decided to put him in the car, so we modified the car to fit him to it and make it all possible for him to have fun for a change,” Jay explained.
This is the root of a racing family, and teams often promote their best wrenches to replace the loose nut behind the wheel as a driver. But for Carl to grab his own 200 Club – or even the Real Street win in our Top Speed Challenge — he first had to walk up his ECTA licensing passes at 148 and 180 mph, respectively.
“They said the number I should run in RPMs, and that’s what I ran,” said Carl.
ECTA, like most land speed racing sanctioning bodies, requires drivers to earn their way up to full-throttle pass. Race directors want to see that not only can you handle your own car and that it’s built to handle high speeds safely, but that you are aware of the braking zones, exit turn-outs, and the rest of the routine.
Beating this into drivers helps ensure that when if there’s a SHTF moment, a rookie is better practiced to respond – but that meant a narrow window for Carl grab his Two Club goals with the poor April weather in Arkansas, making his third run the decision-maker. In fact, the first run was basically a wash when the car stalled after leaving the push truck. It had been siting on the line so long with a wind delay that the engine became cold-blooded.
“You’re cautious with butterflies, but in the last run, Jay told me to quit babying it and just drive the car – if it breaks, we’ll fix it,” he continued. {But everything worked like it was supposed to – but with a few more runs, it would’ve been faster!”
With the limited runs, the team hadn’t yet even cracked open the nitrous bottle. His third pass went by clean and drama-free, pulling back on the throttle for his last licensing pass, which secured the Top Speed Challenge win in Real Street on a 203.6mph run.
Even without a full-bore pass, Carl had joined Jay and Mark as Top Speed Challenge winners, winning Rydin Decal’s third jacket in our street-legal shootout.
“Main thing is to not get too uptight, take it as it goes,” Carl concluded. “Try to not get too worked up over the little stuff because anything can happen.”
“It’s not just me, Carl, Ed or Eric, it was Mark pulling us all together, and each one of us have a particular experience that we bring to the table. When we put it all together, we go fast! If you’re not listening to your team member, then you mess up,” Jay professed. “Everybody makes the car fast, not just the driver – they’re just the loose nut behind the wheel. It’s the team you don’t see in the magazines, the team you don’t see on TV that does it.”

Beginning at 2007,  Pontiac designs able to embrace the Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) for it's keyless entry device or a pushtostart ignition as a standard or optional mechanism.

Transponder chip key form
A transponder key is above all anti-theft mechanism. With transponder key, hot wiring or lock bumping a vehicle is not so effective nomore for a car thieve.
The concept behind an immobilized key lock structure is a tiny chip concealed generally in the cap of the key, when a key is placed into the ignition key-space, the transponder transmit a unique encoded message to the immobiliser. If the immobiliser does not detect a correct authorization code, the vehicle will not fire up.
While few years and models vehicle makers impart onboard plan to originate a supplementary key on your own, vehicle key repair, programming and replacement  become exceedingly expensive comparing to the past and furthermore, if all keys are lost, the car's computer need to be rekeyed by suitable key programmer owned by a locksmith or the dealership.
Pontiac smartkey
Pontiac proximity key let a user to unlock and lock the car doors in addition to igniting the vehicle without using the metal bladed key, and starting at 2007, numerous Pontiac cars in the market are fitted with some type of a proximity key mechanism that accommodate a short range transmitter.
Using a keyless entry, entry to your Pontiac is ordinarily obtained by delivering a radio-frequency indication message from a transponder in the smart key to a car engine control unit on an encoded channel when the driver simply swinging by within the range of 5 ft of the motor vehicle with the keyless device in the pocket or on a key ring.
This RF indication message and the Pontiac smart key instrumentation, furthermore qualify push-to-start ignition (also known as Push starting or Clutch popping). Using this method a car owner is capable of firing up a car engine by pushing a button on the dash-board console rather then turning a key in a crack-hole.
Copy vs lost car keys
Current Pontiac keys and locks platform enclose transponder key and vehicle  and though chipped keys arrive in a range of fobik key, keyless entry, high security and flip key keys, the preeminent concept around this platform is that the transmitter in the key deliver a message to the receiver in the car. If the receiver does not identify a matching message, the fuel pump will locked and the motor vehicle wouldn't turn over.
A few outdated generations keys could be easily copied utilizing dash-board console procedure, yet in most cases to copy an extraneous key, the chip inside the key must be coded by a suitable key programmer carried by a locksmith or the dealer-ship.
If all your keys is lost or stolen, the car computer module must be programmed to utilize the new key and deny the old one.
