okay, update time!

we have a bunch of new baby polka dot plants that sprouted today. There are two closer to the top of the photo, and one tiny hint of green near the bottom. The seedling at the bottom centre of the photo was actually one that sprouted in another pot and unfortunately lost its roots when we tried to move it, but we put it in a bottle cap with some water and it’s finally regrown its roots so we’ve replanted it. Here’s a closer look:

We also now have a lemon plant, which our mum originally tried germinating just to see if it would work. She managed to grow 5 and let us pick one, so we went with one of the plants that she thinks might not do as well as the others. We want to see if maybe we can prove her wrong about that.

In other news, we checked our physalis pot and found the tiniest hint of a seedling sprouting. You can just about see it near the edge of the pot in this photo:

And finally, in somewhat weirder news, we had a look at our lavender pot last night to check if anything had sprouted, and didn’t find any seedlings, but we did find some mushrooms.

There’s a bunch of mycelium in there and from what we can tell, these mushrooms seem to last about a day each, because the one we saw last night started very small when we first found it, reached the size you see in the first photo about 12 hours later, and then when we checked 12 hours after that, it appeared to have toppled over. The second photo was taken a couple of hours ago so we’ll see if this little mushroom does the same.

We’ll have a go at trying to identify the mushrooms if we can, but I feel like that could be challenging. The photos don’t capture the colour very well, but they start off lighter and turn a kind of creamy colour. At their tallest, they’re maybe a couple of centimetres.

We’re going to post updates on the mushrooms along with our plants if they keep growing, which I imagine they probably will because I don’t think anything’s likely to kill them off and we don’t plan on getting rid of them.
