I haven't seen anyone post these before and I can't stop thinking or gushing about this Skimbleshanks, so, here. Just... Seeing him up close and coming face to face with him twice already was so magical and I can't get over it. A dream come true. Skimbleshanks has been my favourite since I was six years old and Philip Bertioli does him SO well. He's amazing. Made me love the character even more! 💚

Something I've been wondering since a lot of the older cats tend to get cast younger and younger recently - are there any performers you could plausibly see as "real" younger versions of those characters?
Anon, that is actually a super interesting question (and I hope I'm understanding what you're asking for; apologies if I misunderstood - if you are asking whether there are performers who have not played the role but played others and can get away with playing them, honestly I'm not a big proponent of having all super young swings and understudies, and I've spoken at length about that before), but there *are* actually a handful of performers of past (which means that they *were* young when they initially took the role and looked it) and present that I could feasibly see as younger (and by "younger" I mean like more in the 20s) faceclaims or "versions" of my beloved older cats (and that I often will note back too when I'm trying to picture them in my mind).
From what I have heard and seen of them, they also give off more of a younger vibe, either due to the lack of maturity in their voices, or their general dispositions, that I think works well as these characters but younger. Imagine a different bunch of teenagers and gapped teeth babies running around the Junkyard hollering at one another and whining at their parents before *they* became the parents, ahaha.
I can give you some of my favourites to avoid wasting too much space. I can do a Part 2 with Asparagus/Gus, Old D and Grizabella if you're interested:
Skimbleshanks:
Tumblr media
Matthew Gould (on his first go around; he aged into it much better the second go - Ross Finnie could technically also take this spot)
Tumblr media
Philip Bertioli (and this is a costume thing but his vest always looked too big for him which just amped up the baby vibe)
Tumblr media
Giovanni DiGabriele
Tumblr media
Hayden Baum (specifically his first go around - that is a baby)
Tumblr media
Tyler Keller (who looks *particularly* old photo like in this shot with the filter and expression - slap a black and white or sepia filter over that and tell me that's not an old photograph)
Tumblr media
Taylor Scanlan (also *very* baby and *very* pretty*).
(Others for consideration if these don't tickle your fancy: Sandy Rass, Sean McManus, Shaun Henson, Jon-Paul Christensen, Philip Comley, Dann Dunn, Brian O'Muiri, Billy Mahoney, Jarryd Nurden, Park Seong-ryong, Bryan Mottram
Jellylorum:
Tumblr media
Catrin Darnell
Tumblr media
Susan Powers
Tumblr media
Joanna Beck
Tumblr media
Lindsay Dyett
Tumblr media
Jeanne Montano
Tumblr media
Erin James
Tumblr media
Annemarie Rosano
(Others: Liz Izen, Louise Tomkins, Bonnie Simmons, Nina Hennessey, Marcy DeGonge, Jennifer Vaden, Thea MacNeil, Lisa-Marie Parker, Carrie Willis, Megan Arseneau, Taila Halford, and Alice Batt. S/O to Pia Douwes who toed the baby line, and nearly all Jellylorums in the Shiki production and a good chunk of the US Tour 5 who are and were - more often than not - quite young and look it)
Jennyanydots:
Tumblr media
Stephanie Johns
Tumblr media
Lisbeth Brittain
Tumblr media
Laura Darkins
Tumblr media
Lucinda Shaw
Tumblr media
Erica Leigh Hansen
Tumblr media
Ellie Nunan
(Others: Mary Trainor, Renée Knapp, Kati Farkas, Jennifer Cohen, Amanda Bay, Laura McCulloch, Melina Charles, Hanny Aden, Alice Redmond, Abigail Dever, Sarah-Marie Maxwell kinda sorta but tbh I think it's the makeup, Eloise Kropp, Maria Briggs - who is like elementary school Jenny -, Emily Jeanne Phillips, Ayumi Kato, and Megan Carton)

42nd Street Review 3rd May 2017 Matinee
So today marks my fourth visit to 42nd Street and I figured it was about time I share my thoughts with the world, especially as I have just seen the show from front row. Wow. Front row was an incredible experience, the detail the cast put into their performances really comes across and it was great to see everything close up. Clare Halse is an absolute DREAM as Peggy and a complete joy to watch. She shines so brightly as the fresh eyed Miss Sawyer and brings such a sweet purity to the role which comes across brilliantly. Her dancing is out of this world and to put it simply - a masterclass in tap with some stunning vocals. What a stage presence! I adore her in the show and I will never tire of watching her on stage. Tom Lister is fantastic as Julian Marsh and tackles the Lullaby of Broadway (which is my favourite song in the show) with such ease. A solid vocal from him and his acting is very believable and all the decisions were well thought out! His reactions to what was going on around him were top notch and him and Clare bounced off each other really well. So slick and it felt like it was the first time they were performing the show. Chris Howell and Jasna Ivir played so well opposite each other, on stage connection was really strong and the jokes they made were perfectly timed. Grand acting and vocals from them both, a joy to watch and a lovely job! I saw CJ Johnson as Dorothy Brock both today and when I last saw the show. CJ is brilliant as Dorothy, bringing such a dry humour which works well for the role and is super funny. Gorgeous vocals and the duet she does with Clare in the second act is stunning, took my breath away. Great Acting. Really hope I get to see her in the role again. Stuart Neal as Billy Lawlor is one of the best castings I've ever seen. The energy he puts into his performance really pays off as he is so solid across the board in his acting, dancing and singing. Dames is one of my favourite numbers in the show and that is due to Stuart's brilliance in leading the number, also I love Young and Healthy which he sings with Clare. The dynamic between those two is pure genius and that number is like watching a little bit of magic happen on stage! The standouts in the ensemble for me were Luke George, Sam Murphy and Philip Bertioli. The energy and performance they delivered really made them stand out but honestly the whole company is so well put together and to choose standouts from an incredibly talented bunch of people is a hard task. Loved the bit where Jack Evans and one of the other ensemble boys were playing two grand pianos and then they joined in with the group section and Clare then did a solo on those two pianos. Thought the choreography was fantastic in that and also across the whole show. Shoutout to the MD who did a grand job conducting the performance this afternoon!! The girls in the line all did a phenomenal job and were a joy to watch. Hats off to them for performing such intricate choreography with such ease and style! I could go on more about why I love this show but I better sign off before this becomes too long for another to read! 😜🙊 I highly recommend 42nd Street to anyone, a classic feel good show from the golden age of Musicals. Currently playing at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane! Thanks again for reading, I'm off to plan my next trip to see Mr Marsh's show! Until next time, Cheerio! ☺️🎭

Cast list for CATS International Tour 2022 today (26th of June).
A lot of the cast members have been sick, so some are understudies or have been flown in from London to help out.
Written out list:
Grizabella = Sarah-Marie Maxwell; Old Deuteronomy = Russell Dickson; Gus/Bustopher Jones = Hal Fowler; Munkustrap = Sebastian Goffin; Rum Tum Tugger = Ed Wade; Mr Mistoffelees = Liam Mower; Skimbleshanks = Freddie Clements; Rumpelteazer = Kirsty Ingram; Mungojerrie = Harry Robinson; Jennyanydots = Anna Campkin; Jellylorum = Elizabeth Futter; Bombalurina = Lizzie Nance; Demeter = Frances Dee; Victoria = Maiya Hikasa; Cassandra = Erin Gisele Chapman; Carbucketty = Roan Pronk; Jemima = Carrie Willis; Coricopat = Shakeel Kimotho; Tantomile = Ben Mundy; Macavity/Admetus = Aaron Elijah; Bill Baily = Aaron Hunt; Pouncival = Dane Quixall; Alonzo = Daniel Timoney
Talking about my experience(s) under the cut for anyone interested (in the end, it’s for myself anyway)!
So, I’ve actually seen CATS live for the third (and last) time today! I’ve seen three different Grizabella’s now, which were all phenomenal and made me cry. Each cast member is truly amazing. Every single time I was blown away by all of them! It’s so exciting to watch them perform and to see what they’re doing when they aren’t in focus at all. I love, love, love their background acting. It’s a lot of fun! My favourite cat has been and always will be Skimbleshanks. First two times he was played by Philip Bertioli, who unfortunately came down with covid this week, so today it was Freddie Clements. Both of them are truly fantastic versions of this character! Would love to see them again, heh. Freddie’s Skimble today also paid so much attention to Admetus and Mungojerrie, out of the younger cats, which I found quite lovely to watch. Generally, I’m still blown away. The show is just so great (I mean, duh, it’s mf CATS) and since today was the last performance here it had a bit of a different feeling to it and I like that the cast (especially Rum Tum Tugger in this case) let you feel how much they enjoyed performing this all month long. Of course, the tour just started, so I’m sure they’re all eager to continue as well. It just felt amazing, is all. Their fun was palpable. <3 I’m still collecting my thoughts, so I’m pretty much just gushing right now, ah, well! All in all, I’m incredibly grateful and lucky to have seen it three times. Unforgettable, truly. <3
Also my seat today was phenomenal. I’m so lucky!!! I was so close and got hit by tails as they walked past me a couple of times, hjskfhkjhkl! This was my view:
