The largely forgotten rallying cry on the fireplace in this illustration from Princeton University’s 1901 Bric-a-Brac, "Oranje Boven," is Dutch for "Orange on Top." It was once a popular cheer for fans at Princeton sporting events, but today, you'll be more likely to hear it from fans of soccer in the Netherlands.

Who cursed what? :0
a Roman curse tablet was found in Belgium. It wasn't strange for Romans to ask (more forced) foreign Deities to aid in cursing. And it shows that as soon as in the first century AD also Jahweh is adressed in Belgium to curse someone. In this case the unfortunate Gaius Julius Viator. What makes this finding special is that it is found at someones home and not some religious place and that it is found so much northwest in Europe.
What happend to Gaius Julius Viator we will never know.
(this isnt a word by word translation. I posted it for my fellow dutchies, who seem to be dominating the fandom atm. ha ha.)

Its KINGSDAY today. The first time in quite some years that i’m not working on queensday / kingsday. Yes queensday thats what we had until Willem Alexander got king. Queen Beatrix kept the 30th of april queensday in honor of her mother. But now we have kinsday on the kings birthday on the 27th of april. The Netherlands turns orange, people selling their old stuff on the streets and partys everywhere. Not joining the party, not going to look for more stuff, just going to watch kingsday on tv.

Wortel paprika soep

When Nazis Were Afraid of Marigolds
When Nazis Were Afraid of Marigolds
Nazis outlawed orange flowers in Holland during WWII since it was the color of the Dutch royal house.
This is one of my favorite outrageous World War II stories.
Everyone knows how insane the Nazis were in violating the rights of people, but did you know they also put a ban on certain types of flowers?
Orange is the color of the Dutch royal house. “Oranje Boven” – “Orange Above” – is a song…

Oranje boven
