The Desert from Arrowhead Trail, Nevada, 1931
Postcard from Oakes Vegas Studio, Las Vegas.
Routes through the southwest in the 19th and early 20th century were known as the Old Spanish Trail, the Mormon Trail, the Old California Trail, and the Arrowhead Trail. All of them passed through Las Vegas, which offered water from its springs and green grass for animals.
In the 1910s, the Arrowhead Highway was created for automobiles. This was the first all-weather road in the west, connecting Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles prior to the establishment of the numbered highway system. Las Vegas Blvd North mirrors the former the Arrowhead Hwy north of the city. South of Las Vegas the hwy traveled close to the future paths of Boulder Hwy and US 95.

Lucy Hale Set For Wayne Kramer Thriller ‘My One And Only’
EXCLUSIVE: Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) has signed on to star in My One and Only, a psychological thriller from writer-director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) that’s being presented for worldwide sales at Cannes by Film Bridge International.
Set to go before cameras in July, the film centers on Molly (Hale), a recently widowed young woman, suicidal with grief, who is abducted by a man intent on reinventing her as his dead wife — unleashing in Molly a fierce will to live.
Siena Oberman (The Good Mother) will produce for Artemis along with Steven Schneider (Late Night with the Devil, Split) and David Guglielmo (The Last Stop in Yuma County) for Spooky Pictures. Greg Lauritano (Fairyland) is executive producing alongside Phil Hunt for Head Gear, as well as DC Cassidy, Udaya Sharma and Michael Fisk for Interstellar Entertainment.
“Lucy Hale is one of the most gifted actors of her generation, and I’m excited to work with her on this unconventional and terrifying psychological thriller,” Kramer stated. “Audiences are going to see a new side to her with this performance. I can’t wait to bring it to the screen.”
Added Film Bridge International’s Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra, “We are extremely excited to be presenting such elevated material to our customers. Led by a top-notch team, we know audiences will be on the edge of their seats.”
Best known for roles in Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars, as well as films like Fantasy Island and Truth or Dare, Hale has most recently been seen starring in the romantic comedies Which Brings Me to You and Puppy Love, as well as AMC+’s crime drama Ragdoll. Coming up, she’ll also be seen starring in the indie Mort in Sherman Oaks, as well as F*** Mary Kill, an action comedy from Lionsgate and BuzzFeed Studios.
Best known for co-writing and directing the Las Vegas-set romantic drama The Cooler, starring William H. Macy, Maria Bello and Alec Baldwin, which brought the latter an Oscar nomination, Kramer’s other past credits include Running Scared and Pawn Shop Chronicles — a pair of titles starring the late Paul Walker — and the Harrison Ford starrer Crossing Over.
Hale is represented by CAA and Reel Talent Management.

one haven music artist bio: the young veins
the young veins' artist bio from their label's website
The Young Veins’ debut album, Take a Vacation!, played with both intellect and ambition – is a band that knows exactly who they are and where they are going.  As 23 year old frontman, Ryan Ross, re-imagines 60’s pop, tropicalia, old New York girl groups and fuzzed-out psychedelia to Nuggets-era garage rock and Stax-inspired soul, you will hear a band that is mature beyond its years and truly excited by the craft of songwriting– uncovering what came before and anxious to see what’s ahead. “We want to be good at our craft, whether it’s writing music or playing it live,” says Ross. “Jon and I just feel like a lot of bands have an either/or sort of feel – either they’re really poppy but don’t have a good vibe, or they have good vibe but the songs aren’t great. And we really wanted to avoid that. We feel like we’re trying to be the band that we’re missing right now.”
Ryan Ross spent his formidable years as the primary songwriter, guitarist and singer in Las Vegas’ wildly popular Panic! at the Disco, a band that rode to the top of the charts on dance-floor synths and impressive rock theatrics. However, over the course of two albums, Ross’s songwriting and musicianship began to evolve, mature and outgrow the stylistic bounds of the band. He and Panic! bassist Jon Walker had discovered their talents as a songwriting duo, and made the decision to step out on their own. Armed with new material, Ross and Walker made their departure, moved to Los Angeles, and formed what is now The Young Veins.
With Take a Vacation!, The Young Veins are that band. Recorded mostly live over the course of two short sessions at Castle Oak Studios and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and produced by Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic! at the Disco, Carly Simon, Lou Reed) – and featuring guest vocals/instrumentation by fellow Californians Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley), Danny and Michael Fujikawa (Chief) and Z Berg (The Like), the album is a stunning 29-minutes of deliberate and focused songcraft; concise pop and rock songs that embrace a dreamy California spirit but also epitomize Ross and Walker’s vast sphere of influence, ambition and artistry. “We wanted every song to have a different theme, like a specific subject,” says Ross, who splits songwriting duties with Walker, each helping the other hone and fine-tune initial ideas, finish creative thoughts and explore different stylistic directions. “We wanted them all to be little stories that you can picture in your head.”
From the first chord of album-opener “Change,” the record rocks, careens and rollicks through eleven songs, which grow and thrive amid Greenwald and Mathes’ minimal production. The band’s vital and vibrant in-studio performances, as well as their thoughtful use of impressive vintage gear, like the Wurlitzer, harmonium and Stylophone are lovingly interpreted for contemporary ears. From the breezy, fuzzed out pop of title track “Take a Vacation!” to the Spector-esque swagger of “Cape Town” and the jolting guitar of “Defiance” – to the gauzy, glimmering sheen of “Everyone But You” and the shimmering, “heels-over-head” love of “Lie to the Truth,” The Young Veins are an undeniably distinctive voice in music today, showing a knack for writing a timeless tune with a sweet, effortless delivery.
Take a Vacation! is both rousing and refined, boisterous and sophisticated, hard-hitting and full of heart. The album is a marriage of passion and perfectionism and through all of their songs ribbons a delight in melody. Take a Vacation! illustrates all that is special about Ross and Walker, gathering all their influences to create something truly exceptional.
The Young Veins live lineup:
Ryan Ross – vocals and guitar Jon Walker – vocals and guitar Andy Soukal – bass Nick White – keyboards Nick Murray – drums

Chicago, IL -- Divino Niño returns this week with their spunky new single “XO” along with a cheeky and slightly NSFW video directed by Ambar Navarro. The track spans just about 3 minutes long and it’s one of the few bilingual songs on the band’s upcoming album Last Spa on Earth. While “XO” still has Divino Niño’s signature dreaminess, there’s an added punchiness to the track that flows seamlessly with the rap-like Spanish verses. There’s an indulgence to the instrumental that’ll have you submerged in their sonic world.
The concept of the track and video “are inspired by experiences Camilo and Javier had growing up in a cultish Christian church. The lyrics are about rebelling against taboos set by religion with a tongue-in-cheek twist.” Medina adds, “I just thought: let’s put the bible and an ass right next to each other in the lyrics. If there was any trauma hanging from our upbringing, we were able to deal with it here.”
Last Spa on Earth is out September 23 via Winspear.

Boris Announce New Full-Length Heavy Rocks (2022) + Fall U.S. Tour
Their new LP will be out on August 12th via Relapse Records. // See Boris on tour in August + September with NOTHING.
Watch (+ share) a music video for the new single “She Is Burning” now.

The legendary Boris celebrate a 30 year career as one of experimental music's most forward-thinking, heavy, and innovative bands with the new album Heavy Rocks (2022). Continuing their series of Heavy Rocks records, Boris once again channels the classic proto-metal sounds of the 70’s into something all new.
Boris comment on the new album:
"The world has changed over the last two years. Everyone's thinking is simpler and pragmatic. Now, it is easier for everyone to grasp what is important to each of us.
We leave it to the future and pass it on. The soul of rock music is constantly evolving. A soul that transcends words and meaning to reach you - instinct, intuition, and fangs.
This is the heavy rock of Boris now.
As we land on our 30th anniversary, Boris continues to evolve, accelerating the latest and universal.
Boris does not lead anyone anywhere.
We just keep showing this attitude.”
Heavy Rocks (2022), 10 pulse-pounding tracks, highlight the very trajectory of Boris and their storied career - from the driving, fuzzed out Rock N' Roll opener "She is Burning," to the punk, raucous "My Name is Blank," Boris are heavier than ever before. "Question 1" is just kickass— D-beats give way to a doomed, spaced out and heavier-than-anything guitar wailing and feedback before diving back into their metal sound, sending the listener into a complete frenzy. This is unmistakably Boris, and this is the band at the height of their powers.
Boris have shared a music video for Heavy Rocks (2022) first single, "She is Burning."
Elsewhere on the record, a more daring, "out there" side of Boris begins to shine on tracks such as the aptly titled "Blah Blah Blah," the industrial "Ghostly Imagination" and the truly wild "Nosferatou." Noisy passages (not unlike prior collaborations with legendary artists like Merzbow,) collide with visceral vocal howls while a relentless, almost Zornian-saxophone shreds harder than any guitar solo ever could.
In 2022, Boris cement what Heavy Rock means to them and release one of their most captivating records to date.
Additionally, Boris have announce Summer U.S. tour dates with Philadelphia’s Nothing. The tour kicks off after Boris and Nothings performances at Psycho Las Vegas and runs through late August and September. The tour also includes a festival performance at Post Festival in Indianapolis, tickets are on sale this Friday, May 20th and a full tour schedule can be found below.
Heavy Rocks (2022) is out August 12 on LP/CD/CS/Digital. Physical pre-orders are available via Relapse.com HERE and Digital Downloads/Streaming HERE.

First airmail delivery in Las Vegas. Rockwell Field, April 17, 1926. Location: Southeast of present Sahara Ave & Paradise Rd intersection.
The first air strip in Las Vegas opened 11/25/20. Originally called Anderson Field, it became Rockwell Field under new owners in '25. Western Air Express Inc. began using the strip when they were contracted the U.S. Postal Service's 650-mile long Contract Air Mail Route #4 from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.
Western's first flight took place April 17, 1926 with a Douglas M-2 airplane piloted by Maurice “Maury” Graham. Western continued using the air field until ’29 when the site was purchased by Leigh SJ Hunt. The company relocated to a new air field built north of Las Vegas, the present location of Nellis AFB.

Chicago, IL -- Divino Niño will be releasing their new album Last Spa On Earth on September 23 via Winspear. This week, the quintet shares their new single “Nos Soltamos” which translates to “We Let Go”. The cathartic single spans just under 4 minutes long and its fervent energy will have you feeling amped up. There’s a punchiness to the instrumentation that gives the song an urgency but there’s also a very distinct Divino Niño dreaminess that gives “We Let Go” the perfect balance between the two. The track teeters between the restless energy of youth and the seemingly perpetual warm nostalgia that always has us looking to the past.
On the track, vocalist/guitarist Camilo Medina shares “I had intense pent-up energy in my body and the act of driving felt like a spiritual way of releasing my demons, as if I was letting go of all my burdens as the wheels rolled fast on the pavement. This song is really about how important it is to unload all you carry around. Not letting go will slow us down and keep us from living truthful lives.
