2. What's their class/elite spec? Weapon of choice? Did they purposely train for it or did it just sort of happen?
Mesmer! She was always fascinated with illusions and learned to create quite intricate ones before she eventually ended up at the Court. She later incorporates some of those into her fighting skills. She isn't a very powerful mesmer in general, but the combination of her illusions and her wits can be quite deadly.
She keeps a dagger on herself at all times, but she learned to handle a sword as well from her most trusted lover and partner in crime.
6. How do they celebrate the holidays, if at all?
I'm not sure what holidays the Court celebrates - what I know is that Nephi loves being in the spotlight. If there is a party or an event celebrating a holiday, she will show up there to steal the show.
8. Biggest strength and weakness?
Been struggling with this one for like a day and have to say, no goddamn clue. I'm unable to point at one trait.
What makes her strong is the combination of her quick thinking, good observation skills and charisma. She's extremely persistent until she can twist people around her finger and get her way.
What makes her weak is her growing difficulty to control her more selfish, emotional whims and impulses. With her growing power and success, she becomes more and more greedy and self-important, eventually running into her own downfall by refusing to accept any sort of criticism.
9. What do they THINK their biggest strength and weakness is?
She would agree her wits are her strength. She'd say her biggest weakness is being too forgiving.
20. Could they ever go back to their old life? Would they want to?
I don't think it's possible. I have this "will never happen" ideal ending scenario where someone bonks her on the head so hard she forgets all her nightmare duchess endeavours and settles down in Cantha with her beloved best friend, starting from scratch and living a peaceful, better life. But realistically, no. She fell too deep into nightmare by the end and wouldn't settle without getting back what she lost, or die trying.

designed for Slocotion's DYO December prompt, Nephelia is based on the Rambutan fruit.
I had a lot of fun with this one. Rambutan are both distinct looking and incredibly sweet, and they're a winter fruit! It's rare that I have an idea for a prompt that I feel confident in.

3 whumpy anime to check out this spring!
Go Go Loser Ranger is a heroes vs. villains anime where the villains are the good guys and the heroes are downright evil. Having wiped out all the powerful monsters more than a decade ago, the heroes keep the weakest monsters captive, to parade around and torment on a weekly basis while the public believes otherwise. Because they're immortal when hit with most weapons, they'll always reform to be hurt over and over again, despite feeling all the pain.
Footsoldier D is one of those weak monsters, an immortal shapeshifter made of dust, called a "duster". After escaping the heroes' arena, he forms a plan to kill the heroes and steal the few weapons they have that can permanently kill dusters, freeing the rest of his kind. Given that he has the constitution of a porcelain doll, he can't use strength to fight: he has to rely on wits, stealth, shapeshifting (despite knowing very little about humans or the outside world), and a shaky alliance with a double-agent ranger who seems to be taking advantage of him for her own gain.

An Archdemon's Dilemma is a romantic comedy stuffed to the brim with popular whump tropes. Zagan is a demonic sorcerer who attends an auction for the possessions of another recently-killed sorcerer, when he sees that one of those "possessions" is an elf slave, Nephelia. Having had a destitute, harsh past himself, he feels a rush of sympathy and buys her way out, vowing to ensure her safety. However, Nephelia is terrified, believing she's about to be used as a sacrifice in a dark magic ritual. And unfortunately for both of them, Zagan is a socially awkward loser who sucks at communicating.
It's surreal seeing something that looks like it could be a caretaker-new-master whump fic as an actual, fully-realized anime. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously despite the premise, leaning heavily on the "comedy" part of romantic comedy, and is mostly just a silly time with lots of whump-adjacent stuff thrown in. Fanfic-y to the point of "there's only one bed" being an actual line.

The Grimm Variations is an anthology of horror retellings of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales. With each episode being written and directed by different people, it varies wildly in quality, with episodes ranging from laughably bad to incredibly good, but I'm here to talk about episode 2: Little Red Riding Hood.
The Little Red Riding Hood takes place in a dystopian future where the upper and middle class use virtual reality technology to augment their reality. One man, Grey, is tired of this and craves the real: specifically, the feeling of real blood spraying him as he murders countless women, his wealth and connections protecting him from consequences. But when this serial killer makes the mistake of targeting a woman called Scarlet, he finds himself on the other side of the knife. This episode is a complete and utter gorefest with multiple onscreen torture scenes.
This isn't even my favorite episode of the series, it's like my 3rd favorite. But episode 2 is the one with the gruesome torture scene, so it's the one that goes in this post.

Azraél Asmodeí Backstory
Azrael is one of Asmodeus’ only living children, besides his brother Magnus Bane. After the horrific death of his mother, Nephelia, Azrael lived with his father, or his master as Azrael came to call him. Asmodeus was a cruel, morbid, nasty man. Azrael remained alive after Asmodeus slaughtered all of his other kids, besides Magnus and Azrael. Asmodeus killed his kids in order to use their immortality to fuel his powers and his realm, Edom.
Instead of facing the same death sentence as his siblings, Azrael was spared. Asmodeus bonded Azrael to him using the arcane symbols that he burned and scarred into Azreal’s skin. His face, neck, shoulders, and chest are covered in hundreds of these arcane symbols. These symbols bonded him to the will of his master.
Asmodeus is the embodiment of Lust, and this is ultimately the sole factor that saved Azrael’s life. As the demon of Lust, Asmodeus manipulates the sexual desires of all creatures. He saw his son as a work of beauty that caused Lust in creatures, and he could not justify killing him. Instead, Azrael was bonded to Asmodeus, so he could never turn against his master’s will.
Azrael used his inhumane beauty to bring virgin’s to Asmodeus. After 2 decades of this Asmodeus needed more. He used blood magic and bastardized rituals to create the ultimate creature of Lust, the Vampire. In turn by creating vampires, Asmodeus can use their victims to fuel his powers, and ultimately his realm.
After the creation of Vampires, Asmodeus had no real need for Azrael. Instead of killing him, Asmodeus said Azrael’s Lust was a new form of drug, and he was too addicted to it to let his favorite toy die.
A few decades of torture later (89 to be exact), Azrael FINALLY had enough. He made a deal with Raphel, the master of the House of Hope. Raphael is Azrael’s cousin, and the grandson of Asmodeus. Azrael was finally granted freedom, and he used that freedom to kill his god-awful father.
“There is always a price to pay with my family.” - Azrael
Raphel undid the bonds that tied Azrael to Asmodeus, but this came at a cost… The price for Azrael’s freedom was Edom. Azrael said yes, without any hesitastion. Once that bond was lifted, Azrael was finally able to kill his father. After gathering enough supporters Azrael stormed his father’s palace, and after a long, grueling battle, Azreal beheaded his abusive father.
Banished from Edom due to his actions, Azrael set out to Faerun, Balder’s Gate to be exact. He settled in and tried enjoying his new found freedom. After killing his father, Azael gained his patron….none other than Asmodeus himself. A patron usually bestows gifts of power and knowledge to their warlocks, but this relationship is different. There are no favors, instead Azrael made another deal with Raphel to gain Asmodeus’ power and knowledge.
Family helps you, right? He helped me once, and it only cost me something I didn't care about.
Raphael used the same arcane magic that Asmodeus used to bond Azrael to him. Raphel bonded Asmodeus to the will of his son, making his knowledge and power accessible to Azrael. In exchange for this, Raphael asked Azrael to redeem Asmodeus. Raphael said that Azreal could do this by redeeming his fathers followers and creatures. This redemption could be brought by killing, or saving the creature… It was what Raphel didn’t tell Azrael that was the worrisome part of the deal, but that’s a classic devil move, never give all the details. Raphael simply needed a task that would keep Azrael busy, while his real plan took effect. Those arcane symbols on Asmodeus didn't just bond him to Azrael, they also did something for Raphel. The creatures that were killed, their powers were absorbed and stored for a ritual.
FAST FORWARD TEN YEARS
Before Azrael was abducted by the mindflayer ship he was hunting down the Vampire Master known as Cazador, a vampire master, and his 7 spawn “children”. Upon the crash of the mind flayer ship, Azrael suffered some traumatic memory loss. That was until he met Astarion, who is also infected with the mind flayer tadpole, and sensed what Astarion was, who his master was, Cazador, and his deal he made with the devil.

First Impression: An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride
The first moment we see our protagonist, Zagan the sorcerer, he’s saving a young lady from a rather unpleasant fellow. The man thought Zagan wouldn’t mind him hurting the poor girl because sorcerers are expected to sacrifice virgins for their experiments. But whether for practical or moral reasons, Zagan is against sacrificing people, so he quickly disposes of this wicked sorcerer. While Zagan is trying to make sure the girl makes it back home safely, his friend Barbaros shows up. Barbaros brings Zagan up to date on the latest gossip, including the death of an archdemon. They keep talking as they go along to a slave auction, where the first unfortunate individual to be sold is revealed to be a silver-haired elf girl, Nephelia. While she doesn’t seem to impress the crowd too much, Zagan is completely awestruck. With just one look, he’s completely in love with her. Luckily, he succeeds in buying her. The only problem is that Zagan doesn’t know how to talk to women, since he never thought female attention was worth the trouble before today. When he brings her to his ominous castle, their conversations don’t go as smoothly as he could have hoped. But while Zagan is trying to make the best impression possible, Nephy is simply grateful she’s probably not going to be killed or tortured by him. Can their love overcome his social awkwardness and her (justified) prejudice against evil sorcerers?
