This is the 7th part of my series "Since I've Been Gone". This is also the last of my @bushandbeachnz tour submissions where we reached Piha Beach. The first and second images is the internal shell of a ram's horn squid (Spirula spirula), which is used as a buoyancy organ. Living ones are difficult to find due to living 1000m deep and only rising to 100-300m at night. This is just one of the many found along NZ's shores. The third and fourth images are of a blue-banded periwinkle (Austrolittorina antipodum), but it doesn't want to show itself for obvious reasons. The first clip are isopods that stump me even to this day, all I know is they are sphaeromatids. Someone help me. Finally, clips two and three are of the shores of Piha Beach itself, with the second showcasing the rock structure the locals call 'Lion Rock', which looks like a resting giant lion from a distance. I took those clips to remind me what I was leaving behind once my studying abroad was concluded. Mueller Hut

The joy of being in the mountains and staying in a hut! I have been a Hut Warden at Mueller Hut for a few years now, and if you’re wondering 'what is a hut warden?'  The primary role of a hut warden is basically to help visitors enjoy their stay, and other parts of the role include keeping the hut, the toilets and surrounds clean and tidy.

The track is one of the most stunning and great hikes in New Zealand, plus a bucket list item to stay in the hut, with it's breathtaking panoramas of the Mt Cook National Park. It is a great location to take stunning landscape photos, both day and night. 

Mueller Hut sits at 1800m, and is a 3-5 hours walk straight up from Mt Cook/Aoraki Village.
