Hehe hey remember that brief period in time when Mike Nesmith (The Monkees' lead guitarist and resident asshole) looked almost identical to Jimmy Page (who was not yet but would be Led Zeppelin's lead guitarist and resident asshole. I mean, a bigger asshole than the other members. Which I can't really say for The Yardbirds which was his band at the time, lest we forget Eric Clapton, who is/was at least as much of an asshole as Page, is also an alumnus of The Yardbirds. Anyway)? Pepperidge Farm remembers...
Anyway, a few key differences between these two control freak stick figures of undeniable talent but dubious likeability: Mike Nesmith could actually drive (and with proficiency) a car as well as a motorcycle (as well as -- I believe -- an airplane?) and punch a hole clear through drywall (true story), whereas Mister Black Magick on the other hand didn't (and still doesn't? Not sure?) have a driver's license, was not reasonably safe on a motorcycle even as a passenger (true story), and any attempt to do bare-knuckled physical damage to the structural integrity of a building would probably result in Jimmy looking like this:

Also a couple months ago I had this dream that Led Zeppelin had their own TV show like The Monkees except it was them. Which would have been fucking wild. I blame those charmingly domestic indoor shots from the Chateau Marmont photoshoot for planting such zany ideas in my subconscious.

still seething we never got a recording of him doing the daddy’s song dance even though it’s rumored he learned it.
it would add so much to my little tie-along with Head and 33 1/3. Just some crazy meta-canon whatever-fucking Monkees jazz. I hold it true in my mind that it’s his song, even though Davy did it very well, because stylistically it suited him, and I do love his version. But I know why Mike was so enthusiastic to do that song, just as a personal thing.
I just want to see him hopping around in frilly monochromatic suits.

ok i have been THINKING abt my personal reason for favouring mike rather than davy and that's cause. to me davy has THE babies face of all time. he's just a little guy he's a sweetie pie i wanna do that 'nom nom nom' thing we do at babies.
whereas mike comes on and he's tall and has a texas accent and he has his stupid wool hat. he's older than davy and his face is less young. he has these dumb sideburns which somehow look hot on him. in the show he's less mature than his real counterpart but somehow both is fine.
davys babyface is just weird when he gets to a certain age too it's like. what's going on here. this is not he's fault but it factors in i think.
peter is my second best boy cause of the immense autistic swag and musical ability he radiates. plus he has a sweet lil smile and he's silly and passionate.
micky my darlingest boy whomst i love so much is this guy who is a darling and a sweetheart and i think his popularity was pushed since he seemed so eager and sweet and he had been in tv before, and his singing voice is so lovely and he's just a silly guy and it's still a surprise to me that he's not my "favourite" considering how much i do love him.
im not gravitated towards mike for his cynicism vs davys sweetness and "optimism" i think i just saw this guy who's kind and sweet in the show and a bit of an asshole in real life and was like. yeah<3
the other thing is i DO love davy i don't find him boring i find him sweet and i wanna pinch his cheeks and coo at him. he's just a lil guy.. <3

My favourite episodes; Monkee See, Monkee Die Mostly because of the scene where they’re all in the bed together, it’s so cute. And so is them in their jammies :3 Everywhere a Sheik Sheik, Too many girls, The Success Story, The Chaperone, Monkee Chow Mein, Monkees in the ring, Fairy tale, Some like it lukewarm, and wild monkees (all the davy centric episodes… shocker)
I love the scene in art for monkees sake where they’re tying Peter up so he can “suffer for his art” and then again when the guy tries to charge Micky for the “masterpiece” on his shirt. Maybe it’s just cuz I’m an art student that I find that episode so amusing.
I also love the scene in red shoes where she wants Peter because of his face and Micky turns the gun on her and Davy’s all like “oh god no!”
In find the monkees (i think) where Davy’s playing the (idk brass instruments my apologies everyone) the horn and he’s like “what’s the racquet?” And mikes like “your playing”. I love all their little banter moments where you tell they’re genuinely laughing like in monkees at the circus where mikes giving the farm report and peters losing it.
Hitting the high sea where Davy’s delivering the food to the captain and he’s pretending to be all wobbly on the boat, i dunno why but its so comedic to me
Lastly, I think the scene In Monkee Mayor when Mike goes through the complaints door and ends up outside is the funniest thing ever 😭
