“Peter, I…” she hesitates and moves to sit across from him. “I need to tell you something.”

It knows that face. He knows that voice. That expression. The sorrow that fills the room in a matter of seconds. It’s back. The cancer’s back. Peter swallows hard, waiting for May to go on. Hoping that May won’t say what he already knows. Waits. Waits. Waits. Waits.

“Ben’s been feeling off lately…” No, no, no, no, no… “He went to the doctor last week. They did some tests. Peter… It’s back.”
