Helena Hind at MMFA:
Once again, a national broadcast outlet has failed to adequately identify a conservative man-on-the-street source in its television coverage. This time, CBS News omitted any mention of an Arizona activist’s well-documented working relationship with Arizona Senate candidate and election denier Kari Lake.
During a report on Arizona Republicans blocking another effort to repeal Arizona’s near-total abortion ban, CBS News featured a soundbite from Merissa Hamilton, identifying her only as an abortion rights opponent. “We need to save freedom in our state,” said Hamilton. “We need to save our constitution. Our rights are under threat every single day.” Beyond being an “abortion rights opponent,” Hamilton has an illustrious career as both a right-wing operative and a political candidate. Last May, prior to Lake’s October announcement about her Senate run, the Trump ally named Hamilton to lead a ballot-chasing operation, because, in Lake’s words, “we cannot allow them to steal another election from we the people.” [...]
The New York Times similarly quoted Hamilton without making the connection to Lake, but the paper at least noted her position as president of an activist group in Arizona, EZAZ.
In 2020, Hamilton ran for mayor of Phoenix and ultimately lost to the incumbent candidate by a large margin. During the campaign, an investigative report from The Arizona Republic revealed Hamilton’s membership in a private Facebook group filled with far-right conspiracy theories and hateful rhetoric against Muslims and LGBTQ people, which drew condemnation from the Human Rights Campaign. [...] In addition to Lake's well-documented election denial — which includes denying the results of her ill-fated Arizona gubernatorial bid in 2022 — the candidate has a history of flip-flopping. Most recently, she was called out for backtracking in her previous endorsement of Arizona’s 19th-century abortion ban.
CBS interviewed Merissa Hamilton, an anti-abortion activist with ties to the Karl Lake campaign and didn't disclose it to the viewers of CBS Evening News.

my original stuff but I don't know if you can follow that
I'm open to pretty much anything, but I'll let you know if you hit on a NoTP or a squick or something, or if I don't know the fandom. This list will change as I think of different things or my interests change, but you're still welcome to ask me about any of it. Or anything else I've written about. Or haven't written about.
Lately I've been writing 1-2k in response to ideas usually. I'm trying to get myself to write drabbles and flashes but it's not working so likely if you ask you'll get something fairly long.
Anyone's welcome to ask for a fic even if we've never interacted before. Both specific and general prompts are welcome, and I like writing Gen content of all kinds as well as ship content, character studies, and worldbuilding.
You're also welcome to just ask me questions about my fandoms (or my original fiction).

Rideshare literally paid the same fee as the taxis. Your mayor lowered the fee for the taxis and exponentially increased the fees for rideshare. Rideshare is supported by people just trying to make a little extra$ to pay bills or get engaged as in the case of my last driver. pic.twitter.com/0nYNWJ3Xo2

Reposted from @black_dust_in_orbit - 😖😖😖 #Repost @freedom_faction ・・・ Thoughts? Last month, #Arizona representative, David Stringer resigned from his elected position as a representative. After he resigned, records were released showing that he was arrested in the 80s for raping two children—one of whom had a developmental disability. After a subsequent investigation was launched, we are now learning about the former representative’s sick history including a recording in which he condones #childsextrafficking. In 1983, before he became a politician, Stringer was arrested and charged with raping two boys under the age of 15, repeatedly. The police report notes that Stringer picked the boys up in a park and lured them back to his apartment where he would engage in sex with them. “(Name redacted) said that about a year ago he was in Patterson Park with a boy (name redacted) when a man stopped and asked if they wanted to go to his house and have some sex,” the report states. “They did perform the sex act on Mr. Stringer … After this the boys were given ten dollars ($10.00) a piece and they left.” This abuse allegedly happened on at least 10 different occasions. “(Name redacted) said that he has been back to see Mr. Dave at least 10 additional times since the first time,” the report states. “He said that each time he has been asked to perform acts of fellatio and sodomy with David Stringer.” Stringer denies ever raping the children and says the charges were expunged. However, the report shows he took a plea deal in the case and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation. Also included in these newly released records are notes of a conversation that was recorded during a Facebook Live broadcast last year in which Stringer was heard saying that child sex trafficking is not a problem. As AZ Central reports: According to investigators’ notes of the exchange, Stringer and Merissa Hamilton, an activist who works to protect child victims of trafficking, were seated next to each other watching a speech from a Border Patrol agent at the event. Their discussion can be overheard in a video, which Hamilton recorded as she live-streamed the event on Facebook. https://www.instagram.com/p/BwC1TJTn-Ge53w8phGxD33Zovr94GPIJLUANXI0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=4pmfv21o4l5s

Former Arizona Rep. David Stringer made disturbing comments about child sex trafficking and his interactions with children within the past few years, two Prescott women told ethics investigators. Those statements are included in new records the state House of Representatives released Wednesday from its ethics investigation into complaints against Stringer, who resigned last week over accusations that he raped children in the 1980s. Among the new records are notes about a conversation Stringer had with an activist during a 2018 Republican Women of Prescott meeting, where he disputed that child sex trafficking is a problem. According to investigators' notes of the exchange, Stringer and Merissa Hamilton, an activist who works to protect child victims of trafficking, were seated next to each other watching a speech from a Border Patrol agent at the event. Their discussion can be overheard in a video, which Hamilton recorded as she live-streamed the event on Facebook. (p. 34) View the entire document with DocumentCloud New report with two dozen interviews Stringer's alleged comments about sex trafficking were included in a new, 181- report that the House Ethics Committee released on Wednesday afternoon. The report details interviews that private investigators, hired by the House's attorneys, conducted with 24 witnesses. The interviews shed new light on Stringer's views on child sex abuse and racism a week after he resigned from office following ethics complaints regarding his past sex-crime charges and racist comments. Former Rep. David Stringer (Photo: Associated Press) His attorney, Carmen Chenal, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday afternoon. Stringer, a Republican from Prescott, abruptly resigned on March 27. Two days later, the Ethics Committee released a police report that revealed that he was arrested in 1983 on suspicion of paying two children to have sex with him. The Baltimore police report states Stringer was accused of paying two boys under the age of 15 for sex. One boy had a developmental disability, according to the report. Stringer has professed his innocence. He claims he was never convicted of a crime, saying the allegations "had no basis in fact." "What I will say is that the charges I faced in 1983 are as false today as they were 35 years ago," Stringer wrote in a Facebook post over the weekend. While Stringer claims he never was convicted, court records show he accepted a plea deal on some combination of charges and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation. But few details of the case are known because it was later expunged. Records released by the House on Wednesday shed new light on how the Ethics Committee obtained the police report from Stringer's 1983 arrest. A Maryland-based private investigator wrote in a letter that he received it from the Baltimore Police Department. The police department previously refused to release the same report to The Arizona Republic, saying the case had been expunged. Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli reads a statement calling on state Rep. David Stringer to resign from the Arizona Legislature over his racist comments. Dustin Gardiner, The Republic | azcentral.com 'I like being a daddy figure' Interview notes released by the Ethics Committee on Wednesday also include comments Stringer allegedly made to school administrators. Rosemary Agneessens, a leader with the Prescott Education Advocacy Council, told investigators about comments Stringer made in the past few years regarding an internship where he helped English Language Learning students in third and fourth grade. She said she was shocked when Stringer said, “I like being a daddy figure for the little girls when they sit on my lap." 'I LIKE BEING A DADDY FIGURE' (p. 6) View the entire document with DocumentCloud Agneessens said Stringer made the comments in late 2017 or early 2018, as he told educators about an internship he said was with the Arizona State University Preparatory Academy in Phoenix. However, ASU spokesman Bret Hovell said there's "no record of him being at ASU Prep. We don’t have him as an intern, as a teacher, as a student teacher." Records released by the House include a fingerprint-clearance card that shows Stringer passed a background check with the Arizona Department of Public Safety to teach in schools. It's unclear where Stringer might have taught, if anywhere, based on those records. STRINGER PASSED FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE TO TEACH (p. 170) View the entire document with DocumentCloud Agneessens also told investigators about racist comments Stringer reportedly made to school administrators during a meeting in his office at the Capitol in 2017. She said Stringer told the group that "'Mexicans' and poor students should not be educated past the eighth grade, as this was a waste of education funding." Stringer also reportedly said Mexicans and "special ed" students will never contribute to their communities or the economy.

Arizona Libertarian Candidate for Governor: Merissa Hamilton
Arizona Libertarian Candidate for Governor: Merissa Hamilton
Arizona has a long legacy of being that maverick place — the State that almost didn’t even become a State. I moved here 17 years ago, right after high school, because I wanted to pursue my dreams in a place that gave me the freedom to thrive and create my own destiny. I persisted and created success for myself with the help of great friends and mentors.
Unfortunately, like much of the rest of the…
