Been messing around with shading and lighting a lot recently! This is the first major "big piece" I've done in a While it feels like. It started out as just a little sketch, but I kinda just kept adding more and more, wanting to mess with like... Idk lines and shit. Anyway context is that the magma sword was made by a sanguine noble of the Moghwyn Dynasty, stabbed into a firewyrm and just... Idk sat there until Gislaine came along and killed it. They were like "cool sword I'll take it" And if anyone is interested, a little blurb under the cut :)

Melania's waterfowl dance came at them like a wave; clashing against their scaled greatword with swing after swing after swing. Their guard was going to break.

Too fast

She's too fucking fast

A flurry of strikes smashed against the guard while their feet dragged back in the water from each impact. And then their sword started to chip.

A scale flew off to the side, followed by another, and another and another, until scales began to shatter off their sword like a thin layer of glass.

And then it happened.

At the same time Melania's final strike met their blade, a shattering sound rang out through the Haligtree roots. Gislaine's arm shot outward, and they were wide open.

In slow motion, Melania drew back her sword. She was going to impale them where they stood.

But…As the pitch black scales rained down around them..

Their arm felt featherweight now. Like there wasn't even anything in their hand.

Melania's sword shot forward.

Gislaines foot and tail braced to the right.

And as if simply clawing downward, they brought the sword down, clanging against her blade and halting her attack with only a cut suffered to their cape.

They started to strike back.

Too sane to be an arcanist but insane enough to drive the narrator crazy.

Vertin is an eldritch horror. There's actually a Carbuncle under her top hat piloting her, Ratatouille style.

Jokes aside this line right here drives me nuts:

"If there is really one in the world that should be..."

WHO? WHAT? The narrator talks too much yet manages to never say enough. He acknowledges Vertin is unusually rational for an arcanist but claims her special talent is her intuition. I think he missed something about Vertin though.

Here is the theory:

Her rationale is irrational, making her unique amongst arcanists and sets her apart from humans.

We know she isn't as "adjusted" as humans. In the Intermission she was debating on whether she should take a sip from a weird bottle she found. She slapped a mustache on Regulus as a disguise (which worked but its still ridiculous). She is unfazed by actual insanity where as ordinary humans fall apart. She accepts the illogical as a truth (Gnosis at work) and then applies logic to it to better grasp it. Humans would not be able to accomplish step one in this process but we've seen other arcanists do this. For example, Melania has a similar thought process.

Side Note: The Pocky game is a game where two people who are fine and willing to possibly kiss each other put a Pocky stick in their mouths, and then bite it. Whoever let goes first wins. The other way is kissing.

-Alright, let's be honest. Tennant would definitely suggest playing the Pocky game only because she wants to kiss you.

The moment Tennant came up to you with that playful glint in her eyes, you knew you were screwed.

"Come on, milady! It'll be fun! And I get to kiss you as an added bonus!" You groaned, finally giving in at Tennant's insistent nagging. [it was mainly flirting, but whatever.] Tennant would definitely by smirking as she grabbed the Pocky, sticking it between the two of you. The game would proceed with Tennant purposely losing and you having to kiss her so she would feel better.

- Melania would probably be quite reserved, so I'm betting that she would never in her own right mind suggest or play the Pocky game. However, for the sake of things, let's just say she agreed.

"Do we really have to do this?" Melania's expression was still deadpan, the opposite of your excited expression. "Of course!" The game went like this: You were trying your best to not giggle and accidentally drop the Pocky, and Melania reluctantly playing the game before giving you a quick peck on the lips before blushing and pretending nothing happened.

It was a victory in your book.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday remembered her mother as “a ray of light in the darkest of days” during a funeral service at a church not far from the family’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The former first lady said she always found peace in the presence of her mother, Amalija Knavs, 78, and that her mother was always there to listen.

“In her presence, the world seemed to shimmer with radiance and joy,” Melania Trump said during a eulogy as her husband, former President Donald Trump, sat nearby. “Our bond was unbreakable.”

The former first lady said her mother celebrated her family’s triumphs and supported them during difficult times. She said she would remember the laughter that accompanied travels with her mother, father and sister and “conversations that flowed effortlessly with grace and charm.”

“Rest in peace my beloved mother,” Melania Trump said before stepping down from the pulpit.

She then stood in front of her mother’s casket, touched her fingers to her lips and placed them on the casket.

Among the guests who arrived before the start of the private service for Knavs at The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea were two of Donald Trump‘s children from previous marriages, Tiffany Trump and Ivanka Trump; Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner; and Republican U.S. Sens. Rick Scott of Florida and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

The church is where Trump and his wife were married in 2005. Knavs died Jan. 9 in Miami after an undisclosed illness.

At midmorning, a hearse pulled up in front of the church followed by an SUV carrying the former president and first lady and two other vehicles with their Secret Service detail. Wearing a black dress and sunglasses, Melania Trump and her father, Viktor Knavs, led a procession up to the church, followed by the former president and their son, Barron.

They then waited on the steps of the church as the coffin was lifted from the hearse and taken into the church.

After the service, a priest waved an urn of incense and a man held up a cross as the coffin was carried out of the church, followed by Melania Trump and her father, and then Donald Trump and their son, Barron.

After the coffin was placed in the hearse, the former president and first lady exchanged pleasantries with the priest. Donald Trump led his wife to an SUV with her father, and then he got into a separate vehicle.

During the Trump presidency, the first lady’s mother lived in New York along with her father and occasionally appeared at the White House. Amalija Knavs was at a 2018 ceremony where the first lady debuted her “Be Best” public awareness campaign to help children.

The Knavses raised Melania, born Melanija, and her older sister, Ines, in the rural industrial town of Sevnica while Slovenia was under Communist rule as part of Yugoslavia. Amalija Knavs was a textile worker and homemaker, while her husband worked as chauffeur before becoming a car dealer.

The former first lady, 53, attended high school in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, and changed her name to Melania Knauss when she started modeling. She settled in New York in 1996 and met Trump in 1998.

She sponsored her parents’ immigration to the United States, and they became citizens at a New York City courthouse in 2018, while Trump was president.

Their lawyer said at the time that they applied for citizenship on their own and didn’t get any special treatment.

In her eulogy, the Slovenian-born former first lady paid tribute to her mother’s “nurturing spirit” and “unparalleled affection.”

“She embodied the best mother, wife, grandmother, mother-in-law — a true beacon of love and luxury in our lives,” Melania Trump said. “She’s a true inspiration, a role model to me, and to so many.”

Trump likewise paid tribute to Knavs during his victory speech at the Iowa caucuses, saying, “She’s up there, way up there. She’s looking down and she’s so proud of us. And I just want to say to Amalija, you are special, one of the most special people I’ve ever known.”

Trump’s adult children from his previous two marriages also attended the service for Melania Trump’s mother: daughters Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump and their husbands, Jared Kushner and Michael Boulos, and sons, Don Jr. and Eric, and their partners, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump.

Trump’s in-laws remained in their native Slovenia after Melania Trump moved to New York City to become a model in 1996 and after she married Trump in 2005. They moved to the United States when Trump was president, and Melania Trump sponsored their bid to become citizens in 2018. After Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden, he, Melania and Barron re-located to Mar-a-Lago. Amalija and Viktor Knavs joined them at the resort, “living it up as well-heeled retirees” and spending a great deal of time with their daughter and grandson, as the New York Post reported.

Meanwhile, Trump has reportedly been able to spend more time with his youngest son since leaving the White House and moving to Mar-a-Lago. In a 2015 People interview, Melania Trump admitted to being the more hands-on parent due to her husband’s first presidential campaign. But free from running the country or a real estate empire at Mar-a-Lago, Trump sometimes plays golf with his son or enjoys a one-on-one dinner with him, TheThings.com reported. Melania Trump told People about the “beautiful respect and admiration” that exists between father and son, and that “Barron loves to be one-on-one with Dad.”

Barron’s natural athleticism and height also makes Trump proud, according to reports. At a 2020 campaign rally, Trump called him out, proclaiming, “My Barron. My tall Barron. My beautiful Barron. Handsome. He is handsome.”"

Father and son stood next to each other as they mourned Melania Trump's mother Amalija Knavs, who died on January 9 aged 78.

Barron, now 17, stands at 6ft, 7 inches - taller even than his ex-president father who at 6ft, 3 inches is a towering figure himself.

The teenager stood beside Donald Trump, Melania, and Knavs' widower Viktor, dwarfing all three as they waited for the coffin to arrive on Thursday morning.

Knavs was farewelled by about 100 mourners at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, Florida, where Melania gave a moving eulogy.

Barron's four-inch height advantage over his father was obvious from the moment they got out of the car together, as the boy put a guiding hand on Trump's arm.

Melania in her eulogy gushed about her mother's love for her grandson Barron, whom she 'showered with affection, illuminating his world with love, tender care and unwavering devotion'.

Trump credited his son's impressive growth to Knavs' traditional Slovenian cooking at a campaign event before the Iowa Republican caucuses.

'That's how he got so tall, he only ate her food,' he joked to the crowd of supporters.

'I said you're gonna be a basketball player. He said, "well, I like soccer dad, actually". But you can't talk them into everything! Barron was a special boy.'

Barron is said to have a close bond with his grandmother, who along with Viktor taught him to speak Slovenian as he grew up.

Bojan Pozar wrote in his book 'Melania Trump - The Inside Story: The Potential First Lady' that Barron 'almost certainly speaks Slovenian with... Ines, his aunt, who also lives in New York'.

'Ines Knavs was the one who took care of all the paperwork at the Slovenia consulate in New York so that Barron could formally acquire Slovenian citizenship,' he added.

Barron is believed to be the first son of a president to have dual citizenship.

Mourners joined Melania and her father Viktor Thursday morning at the same picturesque Palm Beach church where she married Trump nearly two decades earlier.

The former president flew into Florida in the early hours to be at his wife's side, the pair following closely behind the hearse in one of around a dozen black SUVs, arriving just after 10am.

Melania and Trump were accompanied by Barron while Knavs' widower Viktor looked visibly upset but paused to compose himself before joining the others.

A year later, Barron was christened at the Gothic-Revival style venue, which is less than three miles from Trump's swish Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago.

The Trumps also attended several Christmas services there throughout his Presidency.

Uhm, NO?????? Okay, listen. Phantom thieves steal quietly without letting anybody know what hit them, but once the victims realize it, they do learn who stole from them because this type of thieves leaves their signature mark at the end of their mischief. They love to bamboozle their targets for sure, but they don't usually announce it unless it's to divert their attention elsewhere.

Other phantom thieves I know are Lupin, Melania from R1999, and the entire Persona5. And I can assure you, they do their escapades with a bang, but their thievery is delicately quiet.

Ah, saying "honest test of skill" makes his statement earlier about how phantom thieves dont steal quietly sorta valid from his perspective. The phantom thieves I mentioned earlier challenge the security systems, not much their owners.

That's my thoughts right now.

Yeah, he entered this scene way too quickly. The real inspector couldnt have ran all the way here that fast.

That's oddly funny to me.

Lived in Los Angeles in the 1990s before the Storm specifically so I could make it feasible for it to have read House of Leaves before the book came to print in early 2000.

When it's not being a complete and total menace to every single power structure within sight, it likes to cook. It's pretty good at cooking but is still trying to figure out baking -- K's used to improvising on the fly and isn't good at following exact directions.

Its Udimo is a California condor -- a vulture.

Its distaste for chess isn't just part of the card shark theming. It really, genuinely does not care for the game, especially not the weird superiority complexes people get about being good at it.

Both its basic incantations and its Inheritance are named after solitaire variants :)

Would have a visual novel style event sidestory with multiple endings, similar to Jessica's but with no dice rolls and a heavier focus on doing multiple paths to unlock different possibilities.

PINION

Is engineered to regenerate or heal from lost body matter incredibly efficiently while also serving as a universal donor. Has hypertrophic (raised) scarring in a few places where they... "donate" from... particularly frequently.

Has silver eyes. One is missing in their Insight 2 garment. I wonder why that is…

Can't fly or glide with their wings, as they're not fully developed, but can launch themself into the air pretty high if they channel arcanum through them. This tends to cause them to shed feathers.

Does charcoal and pencil sketches to work on their fine motor skills, as their joints tend to jolt a little bit in movement sometimes. Likes doing botanical illustrations. No plant has ever harmed them.

Genuinely does like Lock despite showing this by antagonizing him constantly. Is probably more loyal to him than they are to pretty much anyone else, including K.

LOCK

Knows his own soul number -- it's 451, an incredibly mundane number with no particularly interesting qualities to speak of (sarcasm). Even its digital root is simply a default 1.

Has brown-black eyes. One is silver in his Insight 2 garment. I wonder why that is...

Social chameleon that can be a totally unmemorable guy in whatever situation you put him in. When he isn't intentionally staying low-profile, he's rather blunt and deadpan.

Relatively adept with any given weapon he picks up thanks to a deal he has with Eyes.

Doesn't have an Udimo. If he's set as an assist unit, the suitcase will be empty, and if swapped in he literally just walks onto the battlefield from offscreen.

Would have a grid puzzle event sidestory very similar to Melania's but with more focus on taking out specific targets, kind of like a very simplified Invisible Inc.

EYES

Has possession of Lock's full name. Doesn't use it very often but will occasionally withhold it on request so that people straight-up forget what it is.

K and Pinion are incredibly unnerved by him -- Pinion because of his ominous politeness reminding them of the scientists that made them, and K because it has no idea how to read or predict him. For his part, Eyes thinks this is hilarious. He also quite likes K in general and thinks it's just fascinating to observe.

Actually just friends with Lock, who isn't even remotely intimidated by them. The two exchange information a lot, and Eyes is a big help to Lock when it comes to picking targets.

Can quite literally see through the eyes of the people they've made deals with. Doing this will cause the person's eyes to glow white slightly, but the person in question won't innately be aware someone is watching. Could possess people, but chooses not to -- that's boring.

Is allergic to silver and cold iron. It's not quite the mythological deterrent fairytales hype it up to be -- he'll just get a really nasty rash if it touches his bare skin.

YOU CAN’T PLEASE all the people all of the time — even if you’re as popular as Taylor Swift. Having attained a somehow higher level of mega-celebrity with her record-breaking Eras Tour and a closely followed romance with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs (who are headed back to the Super Bowl as the defending NFL champs), the singer now faces the perplexing wrath of MAGA conspiracy theorists who have decided the league and the relationship are rigged to help Joe Biden’s chances in the 2024 presidential election. The premise is as disconnected from reality as it sounds, but it’s all the stranger given that this courtship between a pop icon and football star — both white, Christian, good-looking, wholesome public figures — should fit the all-American conservative ideal. And Swift herself long retained her mass appeal with a mostly apolitical presence on the world stage, only voicing liberal positions and endorsing a select few Democrats from 2018 onward. But it was, in part, this late entry into civic discourse that allowed right-wingers to sell themselves a narrative of Swift as a propaganda puppet, after years in which some ardently worshiped her as a blonde, blue-eyed avatar for white supremacy. Here’s the complete timeline of how the far right fell in, and out of, love with Taylor Swift.

Pre-2016: Country Roots

Swift came up in the Nashville scene, from the age of 14, as a country singer-songwriter inspired by the likes of Dolly Parton and Shania Twain. Her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” alluded to her love of another country legend — and her early hits climbed the genre’s charts along with heartland tunes full of cowboy twang and pickup trucks. Whatever the identities of individual performers, this music has always been conservative-coded, and its biggest names have rarely shied away from an aggressive style of red-meat patriotism. Swift, of course, was a teenager singing about innocent young love: She only happened to suit the fantasy of a small-town girl next door that informs so much Americana. (And she certainly didn’t have Parental Advisory stickers on her CDs.) It was when she started to drift from these roots on Red (2012), and fully embraced electronic pop with 1989 (2014), that fans could begin to think of her as totally distinct from the traditionalist milieu of her early career. The ascendant alt-right, shitposters by nature, saw a chance to disingenuously claim Swift for their own, as both a secret Trump supporter and neo-Nazi. (It didn’t seem to matter that she had previously expressed her happiness at Barack Obama taking the White House in 2008, her first election.) The attempt to rebrand her had older, murky origins, including 4chan in-jokes and a Pinterest user who in 2013 went viral for images falsely attributing Hitler quotes to Swift, but picked up steam as Trump did. Andrew Anglin, founder of the white supremacist website the Daily Stormer, declared her an “aryan goddess,” while Milo Yiannopoulos, in a column for Breitbart, explained why she was an “alt-right pop icon,” noting her whiteness, blondeness, unrevealing clothes, lack of piercings, and occasional mini-scandals over music videos accused of racist undertones. It probably didn’t help that Swift endorsed neither Hillary Clinton nor Trump, leaving room for misinformation about how she secretly voted for the GOP candidate. Following Trump’s victory, some Democrats vented their frustration at Swift’s silence during the campaign, believing she could have moved the needle for Clinton. [...]

In the following months, the #MeToo movement shed light on how often sexual misconduct is dismissed or covered up to the perpetrator’s benefit, and Swift became one of the founding signatories of Time’s Up, an advocacy group for survivors, and donated to its legal defense fund. None of this was likely to endear Swift to conservatives who had already begun to argue that #MeToo had “gone too far,” yet she continued to press the issue, gracing the cover of Time’s Person of the Year issue along with fellow “silence breakers.” And the next year, she finally waded into electoral politics, sharing on Instagram that she would be backing Democratic congressional candidates in Tennessee for the 2018 midterms. 2019-2020: The Activist

By 2019, Swift’s politics were no mystery. She was openly in favor of gun-control reform, took a pro-choice stance against government attempts to crack down on abortion, gave a surprise performance at New York’s Stonewall Inn for that year’s Pride celebration, and urged the senate to pass anti-discrimination laws. Any far-right fan clinging to the notion that she harbored extremist views would’ve been in clinical denial. For the most part, conservative commentators got in the habit of attacking her as they would any other liberal entertainer with a massive platform. Ben Shapiro, for one, complained of her “abrupt and obviously pandering shift into a political wokescold.” At last, Swift also formally denounced any admiration from the racist far right in a cover story interview with Rolling Stone. “There’s literally nothing worse than white supremacy,” she said. “It’s repulsive. There should be no place for it.” She explained that she feared a 2016 endorsement of Hillary Clinton could have backfired, since Clinton’s celebrity support was “used against her in a lot of ways.” As for conservatives who had once assumed she was on their side, she quipped, “I don’t think they do anymore.” [...]

2021-2024: Taylor Derangement Syndrome

The “aryan goddess” interpretation of Swift had been more or less put to bed by the time Biden assumed office. But the reorganizing MAGA right had little reason to single her out among the legions of professional entertainers who express their distaste for Trump here and there. She didn’t endorse candidates in the 2022 midterms, either, though she did communicate her dismay at the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Conservatives who bothered to take a swipe at her tended toward lazy outrage bait: calling her boring, overrated, or a lonely cat lady (mind you, she was in a long-term relationship with actor Joe Alwyn that was heavily covered by the tabloids). In 2021, Swift embarked on the formidable project of rerecording her first six studio albums after the rights to that catalog were sold to a company run by controversial music mogul Scooter Braun, and released the hit record Midnights in 2022.

It was in 2023 that American conservatism launched into an enduring freakout about Swift, her cultural dominance, and her potential influence on voters. Anyone dimly aware of the Eras Tour — an unprecedented run of sold-out stadium shows — could see she had reached another pinnacle of success, and amassed a near-cultish audience of millions who hung on her every utterance. We got plenty of think pieces on whether this was a good or bad phenomenon, with varied musings on how Swift had created her own monoculture. The sheer saturation of Taylor content was enough to irk those less disposed to her vibe — and there were gripes about that, too.

[...] The release of The Tortured Poets Departmentlast Friday, April 19, inevitably (and unfortunately) brought a new round of grousing. Sean Feucht, the far-right “MAGA Pastor,” raised the alarm on social media, saying “half the songs” on the album “contain explicit lyrics (E), make fun of Christians, and straight up blaspheme God.” And lest you think he’s “just being religious & overreacting,” Feucht shared several apparently offending lyrics that certainly dabble in classic religious imagery, but in the most basic, writerly way imaginable. Among the most harrowing lines, to Feucht: “I would’ve died for your sins, instead I just died inside” (from “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”); “What If I roll the stone away / They’re gonna crucify me anyway” (“Guilty as Sin”); and “God save the most judgmental creeps / Who say they want what’s best for me / Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see,” from “But Daddy I Love Him,” which definitely seems more critical of Swift’s own fans than an entire religion. And, of course, Shapiro got back in on the action as well with a YouTube video dubbed, “Taylor Swift’s New Album Is GARBAGE” and nuanced opinions like, “Can we stop pretending she’s high art?” and, “She’s so tortured that she’s worth billions of dollars for singing songs that are most appropriately sung by 16 and 17 year old girls.”
