7 Union Ministers Not Renominated To Rajya Sabha By BJP: What It Means
Seven union ministers whose Rajya Sabha terms end in April have not been re-nominated by the ruling BJP, prompting speculation Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party may field them in the Lok Sabha election that is expected later the same month.
Tumblr media
Among the big names absent are Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya (Gujarat), Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (Madhya Pradesh), and junior IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar (Karnataka).
Also absent are Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav (Rajasthan), and Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala (Gujarat), as well as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Minister Narayan Rane and junior External Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan, both of whom represented Maharashtra.
Sources have told NDTV all seven could now be fielded from Lok Sabha constituencies in various states.
Sources indicate Mr Pradhan may be fielded from Sambalpur or Dheknal in his home state of Odisha, while Mr Yadav may run from Rajasthan's Alwar or Mahendragarh, and Mr Chandrashekhar could contest one of the four seats in Bengaluru; three of these - Central, North, and South - are held by the BJP.
Similarly, Mr Mandaviya may run from Bhavnagar or Surat in Guajrat, while Mr Rupala may get Rajkot. Mr Muraleedharan, meanwhile, may be fielded from his home state of Kerala; the BJP has no presence there, and may look to high-profile names to revive its fortunes.
The BJP has retained only a few big names, in fact, only two union ministers from the Rajya Sabha have been retained - Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (Odisha) and junior Fisheries Minister L Murugan (Madhya Pradesh). No outgoing MP who has served two or more terms has been repeated.
The only exception is party boss JP Nadda. He though, has been shifted - from Himachal Pradesh, which the Congress won in 2022, to Gujarat. It has also found space for new entrants, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who quit the Congress this week.
Overall, it is all change for the BJP, with only four of 28 outgoing Rajya Sabha MPs renominated. The remaining 24 have reportedly been asked for their preference of Lok Sabha seats.
The party has named 28 candidates to the 56 seats that will fall vacant in April, with the focus on new faces and emphasising - to its leadership structure and the voters - its determination to recognise grassroots workers, even those who not known to the public, while also factoring in social equations.
A notable point is that three of the BJP's new Rajya Sabha MPs - Dharmshila Gupta (Bihar), Medha Kulkarni (Maharashtra), and Maya Naroliya (Madhya Pradesh) - are associated with the women's wing, in keeping with the PM's emphasis on the higher approval the party enjoys among women voters.
The BJP's strategy for the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections appears to mirror that for the five Assembly polls in November last year, when the party focused on "collective leadership" and selecting high-profile candidates - including fielding Lok Sabha MPs for state elections - to maximise outreach.
The plan worked well. The BJP swept to power in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, winning the latter two back from the Congress as it dominated its Hindi heartland stronghold.
The BJP is well into its Lok Sabha election prep mode. Party sources said, as early as last month, that National General Secretaries had begun meeting every week (on Tuesdays) to develop strategies, including candidate placement. At one such meet, attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and party boss JP Nadda, the party said it would target first-time voters, beneficiaries of central schemes, and voters from backward classes, as well as young people and women, as it bids for a third consecutive term.

Mr.Chandrakant Patil In principle acceptance given to the regularization of the Panshet Flood Victim’s encroachment
Tumblr media
Today, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Chandrakant Patil in principle agreed to grant regular possession of a house owned by Panshet flood victims in Pune. He also decided to give additional time to submit the penalty amount required for the regularization of the encroachment of the Panshet flood victims and accordingly regular possession will be given to the property holders. With this important decision, 3988 flood victims will get big relief and one of the pending questions from many years will be sorted out.
At the request of the MLA Medha Kulkarni regarding the encroachment of flood-affected victims of Panshet Pune, other illegal occupations done by temporary shelter holders in Panshet disaster and other encroachment cases, Mr. Patil conducted this meeting and this decision was finalized.
The Panshet flood victims were given 3988 temporary shelters, but the legal procedure was not completed to own these shelters by flood victims. To complete the regularization of this property, verification of evidence from the flood victims and the records of the revenue system will be checked. After that, the government can give ownership rights to the owner of the temporary shelter holder. In this process, flood victims need to deposit a definite amount of penalty payment before 31st December 2018.
It was also approved in the meeting that other encroachment by the Panshet flood victims, encroachment on the land and shelters by the Panshet flood victims, and encroachment by an external person needs to be regularized by paying the penalty amount. This resulted in relief for 3988 flood victims. It was also decided to give land ownership rights to flood-affected organizations. This will benefit 103 societies of flood victims.
Mr. Patil said that with this decision, the pending demands of Panshet flood victims will be fulfilled. The problem was pending for the last several years. According to the policy set by the government; the encroachment will be regularized by paying the penalty amount. This will give relief to the families of flood-affected people.
For this meeting, the Maharashtra State Rehabilitation Authority and Vice President of State Rehabilitation and Resettlement Monitoring Committee Madhav Bhandari, Pune MLA Medha Kulkarni, Additional Chief Secretary Medha Gadgil, Panshet Rehabilitation Project Committee Chairman Mangesh Kharate were present.

Pune: 4 booked for vandalising Marathi poet's statue, government orders probe
Taking hate politics to a new low, Maratha organisation Sambhaji Brigade removed the statue of legendary Marathi Poet and writer Ram Ganesh Gadkari from a garden in Pune. The state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident and 4 people have been booked.
Alleging that the noted playwright portrayed Maratha warrior king Sambhaji in a bad light, vandals from the Sambhaji brigade uprooted Gadkari's bust in the Sambhaji Park, and threw the same into the nearby Mutha River.
Also read | Pune: Sambhaji Brigade removes statue of playwright Ram Ganesh Gadkari
Pravin Gaikwad of the brigade said, "How can we tolerate the statue of a person who defamed our beloved king Sambhaji as an alcoholic in his plays in the very park named after him?"
The brigade claims that Gadkari, in his unfinished play "Raj-Sanyas", portrayed Sambhaji - the eldest son of Shivaji -- as an alcoholic and with other vices. This is not the first time that the pro-Maratha outfit has carried out vandalism over anti-Brahmin or caste issues.
SAMBHAJI BRIGADE CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY
After Tuesday morning's incident, the organisation has claimed responsibility for the act. The state government too has ordered an inquiry into the probe. But the BJP is annoyed.
"Have they even read his books? I wonder how they jumped to conclusion about a book which was not even published….??, asked BJP MLA Medha Kulkarni from Pune's Kothrud constituency.
"They (Sambhaji Brigade) just want to create communal disharmony. I wonder the ruling party in Pune municipal corporation has a hidden support to these elements as elections are round the corner there", alleged Kulkarni.

PREVIOUS INSTANCES
In 2004, the Sambhaji Brigade vandalised the "Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute" in Pune, citing distortion of history by American research scholar James Laine in his book -- Shivaji: Hindu King in Islamic India.
In 2010, the Sambhaji Brigade forced the removal of the statue of Dadoji Kond-dev from Lal Mahal. The brigade had objections over Kond-dev, a Brahmin, being Shivaji's guru.
In 2015, the organisation vandalised the office of MoS Home Ram Shinde, protesting against the BJP government's decision to honour historian Babasaheb Purandare with the highest state award of Maharashtra Bhushan. The brigade alleged that Purandare had written Shivaji's history through a Brahaminical prism.
