Exploring the great outdoors in San Tan Valley
Introduction
Many people in the San Tan Valley, AZ think that there's nothing to do out here but watch TV, eat fast food, and drink beer. But that couldn't be further from the truth! If you're looking for an escape from the city, check out these awesome parks in San Tan Valley:
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park is a regional park in San Tan Valley that spans more than 1,200 acres of land. The park is located in the McDowell Mountains, which are part of the Sonoran Desert and contain many different types of flora and fauna. It's also home to several hiking trails that lead to beautiful views of nearby cities like Phoenix and Scottsdale.
McDowell Mountain Regional Park has plenty to offer hikers looking for an outdoor adventure: there are more than 12 miles worth of trails for you to explore! You can choose from easy or difficult paths depending on your skill level--and if you're feeling extra ambitious (or just want some extra exercise), there are also backpacking campsites available for rent within this large park's boundaries as well!
Sweetwater Preserve
Location:* The Sweetwater Preserve is located in San Tan Valley, about 20 minutes away from downtown Gilbert.
What to do there:* This nature preserve features several miles of trails that wind through desert canyons and over rocky hills, offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains. You'll also find opportunities for hiking, bird-watching, and photography--or just kicking back with a book under one of their many shade trees!
How to get there:* From I-10 exit 277 (San Tan Blvd), head east on San Tan Blvd for 2 miles until you reach Queen Creek Rd/Highway 60; turn right onto Queen Creek Road/Highway 60 and continue driving east for another 4 miles until you reach Sweetwater Road/39th Ave.; turn left onto 39th Ave/Sweetwater Rd and follow it until it ends at the park entrance gate where parking is available on both sides of the road or at designated spots within the park itself
Weaver's Needle Park
Weaver's Needle Park is a great place to spend the day with the family, so make sure you bring some snacks and water. The park is located on the south side of town, near Queen Creek Road. If you're driving from Phoenix, it'll take about 30 minutes to get there; if you're coming from Mesa or Gilbert, it will take closer to 45 minutes.
To get into Weaver's Needle Park, visitors must pay a fee of $5 per vehicle (or $8 if they'd like an annual pass). Parking is limited so try not to arrive too late in the day--the park closes at sunset! You can also purchase tickets online ahead of time; this way your visit will be stress-free and enjoyable from start to finish!
Tonto National Monument
Tonto National Monument is a national monument in the Tonto Basin region of the state of Arizona. It was created by Presidential Proclamation 9163 on May 3, 1909, and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service as part of Tonto National Forest. The monument contains many natural wonders including petrified wood, fossils, and spectacular views from high cliffs over deep canyons carved into limestone rock formations by ancient rivers flowing through this area during its time as an inland sea during the Triassic Period about 250 million years ago.
The most visited site within Tonto National Monument is Tonto Natural Bridge which has been known since prehistoric times as a sacred place.
San Tan Valley
San Tan Valley is a census-designated place located in the East Valley region of Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is a largely rural area with many active farms and has been growing rapidly since the late 1990s.
The population was 35,944 at the 2010 census[1] making it one of Arizona's fastest-growing communities.[2] The town was founded in 1990 by developers from California who wanted to create an upscale community with open space and low-density development similar to that found in Southern California suburbs such as Rancho Cucamonga (where many of them grew up).
Johnson Ranch
Johnson Ranch is a popular hiking destination with many trails to explore. One of the most popular trails is the Johnson Ranch Trail, which follows an old wagon road that leads you through beautiful desert scenery and past interesting rock formations.
Johnson Ranch also has plenty of wildlife to see on your hike including coyotes and jackrabbits, but if you're lucky enough to visit during springtime when it's not too hot out yet then there are more opportunities for seeing more exotic animals like rattlesnakes!
Conclusion
We hope you enjoy your time exploring the great outdoors in San Tan Valley! The best part about living here is that we have so many options to choose from when it comes to hiking, biking and other outdoor activities. Whether you're looking for a quick hike or something more challenging, there's something for everyone at one of these parks.
