A Christmas tradition in our house is to annually recite Debbie's Christmas poem. So, without further ado - ahem:     The holidays are joyous,  Not filled with woe,   Even for our family,   Always on the go.   But this year bites the big one,   Like you don't know!   Because Eliza ruined Christmas!   Ho, ho, ho.

ooc;; a mix of canon / headcanons for Nigel. I feel like Nigel had a hard time at school when he was growing up, sure he had friends but no one really understood him or his deep love for animals. Sure it’s interesting to hear animal facts n him info-dumping. But knowing how ppl r they would get tired of it real quick, I headcanon tht Bc his dad was really the only person who had the same love for all things animals tht he considered his dad his best friend. ( outside of Mariann, since she loves all her husband's weird quirks n understands him on tht level too. )

But he does struggle w understanding ppl, he’ll compare ppl to different animals. Like saying ‘blah blah was like a sloth’ or w/e. I can’t think of better things rn, plus animals don’t judge u or hate u for anything. Animals can’t bully u, it’s easier / straight forward when it comes to animals. Wherein ppl r more complex.

He worried abt Debs a lot when she was growing up Bc she was a lot like him / plus just extra stuff. He knew she struggled in school when it came to other ppl, knew she didn’t have friends n thts part of the reason I headcanon tht she was a huge daddy’s girl ( until a point. After Eliza was born, she kinda went into her shell, but thts for another post lol ) Nigel also worried abt Eliza Bc again she was a lot like him. But for w/e reason she seemed to not struggle so much in tht way.

It both hindered n helped Eliza tht her family traveled so it meant she never really dealt w the things Nigel n Debs did. She’s good at making friends ( mostly animals ) w humans, the very very few she does make on her travels. It’s all so interesting to see how the Thornberrys lifestyle effects Eliza n Debs ( n Donnie. Mostly the educational neglect n making Debs his second parent. ) Bc Eliza seems to thrive in it, while Debbie doesn’t. Sure she doesn’t totally hate it, there r things she loves abt traveling but Debs wants a normal life to be a normal teenager which her parents r robbing her of.

It’s like how siblings can live in the same house growing up n go through totally different things. Me n my sister talked abt tht a while ago, abt how she’s not as effected by the things tht happened growing up, but I struggle a lot Bc of it. Different experiences, which is why I love the show so much Bc under the surface it’s a deep show or I could be reading to much into it Bc this show means a lot to me. But the hints we get seems to just make piles of evidence. Anyway I’m rambling now n I could talk for hours abt this fucking show, so I’ll shut up lol

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW

Delbert Doppler is based on Dr. Doppler from Treasure Planet. He is a 34 year old gifted human, astronomy professor, and uses he/him pronouns. He has the power of genius intellect. Delbert is portrayed by Jonathan Bailey and he is open.

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Ever since he was a young kid, Delbert was convinced he was an old soul. He never really got along well with his peers, people his own age never seemed to be interested in the same things he was or, more likely, they didn't care about the machinations of the universe in the way he did. They didn't have the same fervor but that was fine! He'd rather be a loner than an idiot and one day, he knew he'd find his people. The ones who weren't satisfied with an answer without asking at least one hundred times why? and finding out the answer to that. There were mysteries out there among the stars and Delbert was not the type to ever be content without solving each and every one of them. Now, did that make him a fearless adventurer in pursuit of the truth? Absolutely not. To say Delbert was scared of most things would have been an understatement but, as long as the right precautions were taken and the mission was important enough, the doctor was willing to put his life on the line...as long as the odds of survival were close to one hundred percent. Over one hundred percent would be even better! It shocked no one in Delbert's life when his best friend was the owner of his favorite tavern, a woman twenty years his senior, but he got along with Sarah. He cared about her and her son. For so long, people had told him that he was more robot than person, caring more about books and theories than actual people but they didn't mind! They let him be awkward and ramble about the stars and in turn, he listened to what their lives were like and he finally understood that intelligence wasn't always the answer; empathy was. Feelings were. He's not perfect at it, but he's trying and he's learning and what more could you ask for? When the news arrived that Jim and Morph were missing, Delbert was the first to volunteer to try and find them; they were his family as far as he was concerned. If Jim was in trouble, he would never let Sarah search for him on her own. He might not have a ton of friends but the ones he did have, Delbert would protect with his life even if it meant getting trapped here in Evermore without a route into the stars. It was worth it and he didn't' doubt that one day he would be back up in the galaxy.

Delbert is a big fan and he loves spending afternoons running through theories with Milo ❀ Jessica Liu: At the end of the day, Jessie is fun and knows how to interact with people and have a good time - something he's never been particularly good at ❀ Marianne Hunter-Thornberry: There is something about Marianne that reminds Delbert of Sarah, maybe it's the strong mom gene or something but he can't help but be warm towards her whenever they meet

The Wild Thornberrys. A huge fan of this very worthy show for the 90’s. Nature, adventure, talking animals, family and messaging about poaching and conservation. Of all the shows that deserve a reboot I can’t believe we are missing this one. Oh well. Go watch the original. It’s still awesome.
