Thanks for the ask! Unsurprisingly this is a snippet with Adrin and Mara.
Mara narrowed her eyes and crouched down. Her finger traced the parallel curves on either side of the narrow cross that had been carved into the center of the right door. The shape seemed so familiar…
“Valic? Humor me, will you?” she glanced behind her. “Does this look hollow?”
He knelt down and peered inside. “Yeah, but it’s narrow, I’m not sure you’d be able to fit anything bigger than–”
“A sword?” she cut in.
A scowl dragged his lips downwards. “No, no. I’m not sticking a priceless magical artifact into a crack in the wall.”
“Not with that attitude,” she replied lightly. “Why else would a sword appear out of thin air if not to aid us in some way? Either you do it, or I will have Cloud strangle you while I take it from you myself.”
“Ah, Mara–what would Hettie think?” He met her withering stare with a cheeky grin.
