Poco X3 Pro Review: Good for gamers on a budget, but some good compromises too
The Poco X3 Pro brings true flagship performance at a very low price. However, does it make the right trade-offs to get there? Read our full review to find out.
📷📷📷📷📷 Rs. 18,999
📷 The perfect budget flagship phone is as much about the right mix of features, as it is about the right choice of compromises. You cannot bring flagship performance to mid-range prices without cutting some corners, and hence, what sets a good “budget flagship” smartphone apart is compromising on the right aspects. The Poco F1 from 2018 was a fantastic example of this. Now, in 2021, the revamped brand has made its second true budget flagship, the Poco X3 Pro, a phone that brings a top-notch processor around the Rs 20,000 mark and manages to do it while maintaining an impressive specification sheet. Check out the details below.Poco X3 Pro specs: 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with 120Hz refresh rate | Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 chipset | 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB UFS 3.1 storage | 48MP+8MP+2MP+2MP rear camera, 20MP front camera | 5160mAh battery, 33W fast chargingWe tested the Poco X3 Pro for about a week and here’s what we think about the phone.Design, build quality The Poco X3 Pro follows the design language of the Poco X3, which is not surprising considering they belong to the same family. You have the dual-tone finish on a plastic back and a big half-circular, half-rectangular camera bump that is made to look like a circular module. There is a big Poco logo on the back but it is subtle, unlike what we saw on the Poco M3.📷 The volume buttons and power button which doubles up as a really fast and accurate fingerprint scanner are on the right, while the SIM slot is on the left edge. The phone retains the IR blaster on top making it handy for those planning to use it as a universal remote with other appliances. Among the usual elements, at the bottom, we still find the 3.5mm jack which is good to see. Coming to the build quality, the phone is a solid build all around except the plastic back panel that feels really weak. Also, it vibrates almost as well as a second vibration motor in the device. This gets pretty evident when the phone is playing media at high volumes and while some may enjoy the extra sensation during gaming, it could become annoying for others.Display The Poco X3 Pro gets a great display just like the rest of the Poco X series. It is still an IPS LCD panel but a good quality one. Moreover, the phone’s brightness can get really low on the lowest level, allowing you to use this device comfortably in night.Viewing angles are great and so is colour reproduction. There is a centre-aligned punch-holer camera on the top of the screen. While we would have preferred a slightly less-distracting corner implementation, the large screen of the Poco X3 Pro doesn’t let the punch hole feel too intrusive.Camera The Poco X3 Pro comes with a good set of cameras on the front and back. Pictures we took with the phone appeared crisp and had great detail. Even though the sensor has taken a drop from 64MP to 48MP, when it comes to real-life usage, there is no “loss in quality”. However, pictures in indoor lighting did struggle a little to get the white balance right. Note that none of the lenses has OIS (optical image stabilisation) though the EIS (Electronic image stabilisation) works great.Coming to night mode, the Poco X3 Pro does a wonderful job at getting in more light and eliminating noise from pictures. Performance by the ultra-wide sensor is as expected considering the 8MP sensor. While images do get the wide-angle, they come out soft and are only usable during the day. However, the ultra-wide sensor can be used with night mode and that gives a little more usable results in the dark. The 20MP front camera takes decent pictures even in indoor lighting with crisp details. Macro shots and portrait shots are fairly average. Coming to video, you can record up to 1080p 60fps or 4K 30fps. With a high-end chip in the trunk, the phone makes features like Dual-Video possible where you can capture footage from both the front and rear camera at the same time.Check out our camera samples by clicking on the image below.📷 📷 Performance The vanilla Poco X3 Pro was already a good enough performer for day to day tasks. The Pro too, without
any doubt is capable of handling regular tasks easily. More than a handful of heavy apps at a time is not a problem for the Poco X3 Pro and it can run without any stutters or lags. Moreover, the Snapdragon 860 chipset brings out the best of the 120Hz refresh rate when it is turned on and hence, the phone feels much smoother, even with the relatively heavy MIUI 12 skin. That is no surprise when you realise the Snapdragon 860 is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 855 Plus, the same chipset that powered flagships like the OnePlus 7T series and the Asus ROG Phone 2.Gaming is clearly where the Poco X3 shines the most. The phone is pretty much made to bring quality gaming to the budget segment. With an 800-series processor and the Adreno 640 GPU, the phone is capable of handling the heaviest of titles with ease. With games like Call of Duty and Free Fire, you can max out your graphic settings and framerate. We tried a couple of Call of Duty matches at maxed-out settings and saw that the phone doesn’t heat up too much either, which was just great.Software The Poco X3 Pro comes with Android 11-based MIUI 12 out of the box and Poco should update the device to the newer MIUI 12.5 soon. MIUI 12 is not the cleanest skin out there and while Poco claims that there are no ads on the phone, we still have a lot of bloatware, most of which fortunately can be uninstalled. However, MIUI 12 has a lot of features on the software side, from its apps to the utilities that are baked into the interface. MIUI 12 is one of those Android skins that comes with a lot of weight to it, very much because of its feature-packed nature. On phones like the Poco X3 Pro, however, the processing power is good enough to carry the weight of the skin and as a result, the user experience is not harmed.📷 Battery life The Poco X3 Pro drops battery capacity to 5,160mAh, which is less than the 6,000mAh battery you get on the Poco X3. However, this is still good enough to give you over a day’s usage considering the phone’s larger screen size. If you game a lot on the device, which you likely will if you are getting this phone, expect to see faster discharge. Charging speed is great though and a full charge takes just over an hour. Note that we tested the phone with 120Hz on at all times and that you can always switch to 60Hz and get much more juice from the device.Verdict: Is the Poco X3 Pro for you? The Poco X3 Pro gets a lot right for its price. Recall what we said about making the right compromises. It is a device meant for gamers and power users on a budget and any aspect of the phone that would affect your gaming is not compromised. A fast chip, a great GPU, stereo speakers, headphone port, UFS 3.1 storage, the phone has it all. Even in other areas like the camera or battery life, the Poco X3 Pro performs above average in its segment.A few things could have been improved with the phone. A glass back would have reduced vibrations on the back, and the higher-end 8GB RAM variant could have bagged 256GB storage. A 4G chipset also means you lose 5G support when it arrives in India. However, for those not concerned with future-proofing their phone for years to come, you get a great deal with solid hardware components here, making this phone an easy recommendation

Will the iPhone 12 Convince Consumers to Replace Older iPhones?
By Peter Farago, Flurry GM and Aman Bansal, Flurry Analyst
When Apple launches its annual line-up of new iPhones each Fall, it creates a surge in device adoption that spans the holiday season. Since the 2017 launch of the completely reimagined iPhone X, improvements to subsequent phones have been incremental, offering gains mainly related to the chipset, camera and screen. Since then Apple has released the iPhone XS and XR variants, the iPhone 11 line up and the 2nd Generation iPhone SE. The iPhone 12, coupled with 5G support, seems poised for stronger than usual uptake. For this analysis, we review the underlying drivers of iPhone device replacement including the relationship between consumer affluence and device age to understand how the upcoming iPhone 12 is positioned for this holiday season.
Device Obsolescence
A primary factor that drives new iPhone upgrades is device obsolescence. Apple doesn’t seem to explicitly plan this, but rapid innovation around both their hardware and operating systems results in reduced performance across older devices. Working against the growth of Apple’s annual iPhone unit sales is the fact that consumers are holding on to older devices longer. Today, consumers upgrade iPhones about every four years, compared to every three years back in 2018. For the iPhone 12 launch, those using the iPhone 7, launched in September 2016, or older models are candidates to upgrade their devices this cycle. We offer analysis on this below.
A Bigger Step
It’s speculated that Apple’s iPhone 12 will feature greater improvements than typical releases, which will likely increase device uptake. From a design standpoint, it likely re-introduces a smaller screen version as well as a metal, sharper-edged frame not seen since the iPhone 4. It will get a step up in speed while also better conserving battery life with the more energy-efficient A14 Bionic chip. There is a lot of buzz around the camera, with the largest phone versions rumored to feature a 64MP main camera, which will be a large improvement over the 12MP camera on the iPhone 11. Leaked rear glass pane images suggest that Apple will include a LiDAR scanner in the iPhone 12 Pro and Max that will help support augmented reality in some games and shopping apps, for example, by scanning local surroundings and superimposing various graphics into scenes.
A Shorter Window
Earlier this year, Apple CFO Luca Maestri announced that the iPhone 12 launch would be delayed, projecting that supply would be “available a few weeks later” than usual. That puts the launch most likely in the October timeframe, and the delay is likely due to Broadcom falling behind on producing the microprocessors for the iPhone 12. Apple has reportedly gone to great lengths to overcome production challenges related to COVID-19 and, unless delays are longer than expected, this should not be a major factor in its most important market, the United States, as new device uptake tends to ramp closer to Christmas.
The 5G Factor
Interest for the iPhone 12 appears greater due to the expectations that the device will be 5G-enabled, promising consumers access to seamless connectivity, faster speeds and next-generation user experiences. That said, tests have shown that 5G speeds are not pervasively available and sometimes actually slower than 4G speeds. The perception of a step-change in wireless technology could lead to a higher rate of iPhone upgrades this year, especially due to the pent-up demand created by Apple initially waiting to support 5G until this generation of iPhone. However, 5G may still be more of a future promise.
Affluence & Age of Device Base
Among the greatest factors in determining how well iPhone 12 may get adopted is simply whether consumers can afford them and what iPhone models they currently own. To better understand these factors, Flurry conducted some analysis, which we present below. Flurry Analytics, owned by Verizon Media, is used in over 1 million mobile applications worldwide, providing insights into more than 2 billion smartphones around the world. Take a look at the chart, and then we’ll go through it.
Tumblr media
Fig. 1 Affluent Customers Upgrade iPhones More Frequently
In the chart above, we plotted countries by their consumer spending power and the age of their iPhone install base. On the x-axis we show how new the iPhone install base is. The farther to the right, the higher the percent of devices that are iPhone 8 or later models. On the y-axis we show the consumer spending power in a country, using household expenditure per capita. The higher up the chart, the more money is spent per household. The color of the dot relates to the size of a market, based on the monthly active iPhone devices Flurry detects in that market.
Let’s take a look at a couple of examples to get oriented. Represented by a dark green dot, the U.S. is among the largest markets with the highest consumer spending power and has a high proportion of newer iPhone models in use. This means that people in the U.S. can afford new devices and also upgrade much more frequently than in other markets. By contrast, Vietnam, in the lower left of the chart, has below average spending power and a larger proportion of older devices in its install base. Because the population cannot likely afford to upgrade devices more frequently, they hold on to iPhone 7 and older devices for much longer.
From our calculations, 63% of iPhones in use around the world are less than four years old (iPhone 8 or later models). For reference, we overlaid that average on the chart with a dashed gray vertical line. Countries to the right of the line replace their devices more frequently and overall have much newer phones. Those to the left of the line replace less frequently and have older devices, on average.
Statistically, we found a +0.8 correlation between spending power (household expenditure per capita) and the share of newer devices (a higher percent of iPhone 8 or later models). That is a very strong positive association, which means that the more spending power in a market, the newer the phones. This makes sense since a new iPhone requires a substantial investment and it explains why the United States and Hong Kong, both with a high household expenditure per capita, also have relatively low percentage of older iPhones in their respective markets.
Most of Apple’s smaller markets, represented by light red or gray dots, have low consumer spending power and a lower device replacement rate. This primarily includes most of Africa, as well as parts of Asia and Latin America. Consumers in these countries keep their iPhones for a longer period, likely due to having lower disposable income.
Some bigger iPhones markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and Indonesia have relatively low consumer spending power combined with a low device refresh rate. This means that a less expensive base version of the iPhone 12 can have a disproportionate impact on these key markets to get people to upgrade their iPhones sooner. This aligns with a previous report that Apple’s low-cost iPhones have helped Apple strengthen its footing in many international markets.
Using our calculation that 37% of global iPhones are four or more years old, and that there are an estimated 950 million active iPhones in the market, we estimate that 350 million iPhones are ripe for upgrade based on their age. This gives Apple a sizable addressable market with its iPhone 12 line. From various leaks, including from technology analyst Jon Prosser, Apple’s lowest priced model is speculated to start at $549 (with a rumored iPhone 12 4G). If this is the case, then Apple appears well positioned to drive upgrades from the older part of their install base. At the same time, with the highest end model speculated to retail for $1399 (iPhone 12 Pro Max), they would also cover off early adopters and loyalists in more affluent markets that want the latest and greatest Apple has to offer. By all accounts we predict a stronger than typical uptake of the iPhone 12 line compared to previous year’s launches. We’ll monitor early uptake of the iPhone 12 line when it becomes available and share those findings with you. TCL 10 Pro first look: Gorgeous $450 Android smartphone focused on advanced display techonology Review – ZDNet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TCL has been making smartphones for years, including the latest BlackBerry and Alcatel phones. With the TCL 10 series we see the first TCL-branded phones launching for North American customers. After just a day with the stunning Ember Gray TCL 10 Pro it is clear that TCL is offering a compelling choice for less than $500.
Lately, I’ve been testing the low cost Apple iPhone SE and lowest priced 5G phone, the OnePlus 8, and the new TCL 10 Pro offers something in between these two at a $450 price. The design is lovely, the display is wonderful, and there are advanced camera features in this new phone.
Also: TCL SOCL 500TWS wireless earbuds hands-on: High end specifications and decent performance for $80
Since I’ve only spent a day with the new TCL 10 Pro, please leave comments for what you want tested as I put it through its paces over the next week. I plan to test out the TCL UI elements, battery life, camera performance, call quality, reception strength, and application performance. First impressions are great and we’ll see if it holds up over the next week.
Specifications
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 675
Display: 6.47 inch 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution AMOLED
Operating system: Android 10 with TCL UI
RAM: 6GB
Storage: 128GB internal with microSD card support
Cameras: 64MP main camera, 16MP ultra-wide lens with 123 degree field-of-view, 5MP macro lens, and 2MP super low light video camera. 24MP front facing camera.
Wireless technology: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS
Battery: 4,500 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support and charger
Dimensions: 158.5 x 72.4 x 8.6 mm and 187 grams
Colors: Ember Gray
The TCL 10 Pro also still has a 3.5mm headset jack and even an IR port to control your local infrared-enabled devices.
First impressions
The TCL 10 Pro offers a lot for $450 with a focus on demonstrating TCL’s display technology. This means you get a stunning AMOLED screen that incorporates a dedicated display engine with NXTVISION technology. Since our displays are vital to the smartphone experience, a focus on the display is very interesting and something that is great to see from smartphone manufacturers.
Top ZDNET Reviews
HDR10 is supported for Netflix high resolution content and with the small center notch for the front-facing camera the massive screen-to-body ratio is a feast for the eyes. TCL also understands the impact of displays on your eyes so it incorporates adaptive tone, reading mode, and eye comfort mode in order to help maintain the health of your eyes and support your sleep cycle.
My expectations are high after unboxing the lovely TCL 10 Pro. It launches only in Ember Gray, but it is a very professional color with a matte glass back finish. The large display, high capacity battery, and multiple rear camera array have serious potential so stay tuned for more testing.

POCO X2 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Realme 6 Pro: Which one to Buy?
New Post has been published on https://bestedevices.com/poco-x2-vs-redmi-note-9-pro-vs-realme-6-pro-which-one-to-buy.html
POCO X2 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Realme 6 Pro: Which one to Buy?
Tumblr media
The Redmi Note 9 Pro, the Poco X2 and the Realme 6 Pro are undoubtedly among the most popular smartphones in the sub-20K segment. Incidentally, all three have a number of similarities, including specifications and features. So which is a better buy right now? Let's take a look at this in our detailed specification-based comparison.
POCO X2 vs. Redmi Note 9 Pro vs. Realme 6 Pro
Design: glass back & punch
For starters, Poco X2, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6 Pro, all three have a similar design language with some significant differences in appearance and build quality. The Note 9 Pro and Realme 6 Pro have frames made of polycarbonate, accompanied by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5-protected rear. And while the Poco X2 also gets Gorilla Glass 5, it is packaged in a more stable aluminum frame.
The Poco X2 is available in the colors blue, purple and red without any unusual gradient effects. The same applies to the Note 9 Pro, which is available in the variants blue, white and black. On the contrary, the Realme 6 Pro has a new flash effect and is available in two colors, including blue and orange.
The front panels of the trio have cutouts for the selfie cameras. Realme has the double hole on the left, while Poco has it on the right. In comparison, the Redmi gets a single, centered hole.
The Poco X2 weighs 208 grams, while the Realme 6 Pro weighs 202 grams. At 209 grams, the Note 9 Pro is the heaviest of them all. Please note that all three devices have splash-proof housings and are equipped with fingerprint scanners on the side.
Display: 120 Hz vs 60 Hz vs 90 Hz
The Poco X2 has a 6.67-inch display, which also applies to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. In comparison, the Realme 6 Pro gets a slightly smaller 6.6-inch panel. All of them are IPS LCDs with Full HD + resolutions.
Poco has a significant advantage with its high-refresh 120 Hz screen that compensates for smoother and faster animations. It is also the brightest of them all and gets HDR10 support. The Realme 6 Pro is not far with its refresh rate of 90 Hz. Unfortunately, it's the Redmi Note 9 Pro that loses the game with its traditional 60 Hz screen.
However, all three have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection in advance and support Widevine L1 certification.
Processor: SD 730G vs. SD 720G vs. SD 720G
SD720G vs SD730G
The core of the Poco X2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor. While the other two are powered by the Snapdragon 720G chipset, which is newer and supports NavIC. Both chips are based on the 8 nm process and are equipped with an Adreno 618 GPU.
With similar processors, the three devices work more or less similarly in daily use. However, it is the gaming experience where the Poco X2, with its overclocked GPU and slightly better Kryo 470 cores, is the leader compared to Kryo 465 cores in the 720G.
The Poco X2's RAM and memory are available in 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 8/256 GB configurations. Note 9 Pro is available in 4/64 GB and 6/128 GB versions. The Realme 6 Pro, on the other hand, can be purchased in the options 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 8/128 GB.
software
The latest Android 10 runs immediately on the Poco X2, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Realme 6 Pro. However, they are supplied with customized skins from their respective manufacturers.
For example, Redmi runs MIUI 11, while Poco uses an ad-free version of it with Poco Launcher. On the other hand, Realme has packed the new RealmeUI, which has a pure advantage with its cleaner and almost standard Android experience.
Camera: 64MP vs 48MP vs 64MP quad setup
Like other phones in question, the Poco X2 also has quad cameras on the back. The setup includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. In addition, a 20-megapixel front camera is advertised alongside a secondary 2-megapixel depth unit.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor with a 1: 1.79 lens, an 8MP 120 ° ultra wide angle lens, a 5MP 2 cm macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There is a single 16 megapixel front camera for selfies.
The Realme 6 Pro, on the other hand, has a 64-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor with a f / 1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera and a second Megapixel macro camera. You'll get a 16-megapixel primary shooter in advance, paired with an 8-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera.
Battery: Redmi has the largest
Tumblr media
The Redmi Note 9 Pro has the largest battery ever with 5,020 mAh, followed by the Poco X2 with 4,500 mAh and Realme 6 Pro with 4,300 mAh.
Realme has the cell with the lowest capacity, but thanks to the 30 W VOOC 4.0 flash charger, it is the fastest that can be charged from 0 to 100. In second place is the Poco X2 with 27 W charging, followed by the Redmi Note, which is supplied with an 18 W quick charger.
Connectivity options
The trio has similar connectivity options, including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G VoLTE, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. However, the Poco X2 has a hybrid SIM slot in contrast to the dedicated microSD card slot of the other two. And for those interested in IR blasters, it's only available from Poco and Redmi.
Price
The Poco X2 starts at INR 15,999 for the 6 / 64GB option. The 6/128 GB and 8/256 GB models cost INR 17,999 and INR 18,999, respectively.
The Realme 6 Pro costs 16,999 INR for the basic version with 6/64 GB configuration, 17,999 INR for 6/128 GB configuration and 18,999 INR for 8/128 GB models.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is the cheapest of them all and costs INR 12,999 for 4 / 64GB and INR 15,999 for 6 / 128GB.
Poco X2 vs. Redmi Note 9 Pro vs. Realme 6 Pro: conclusion
With Poco X2 you get a screen with a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz, better gaming performance and a better camera sensor. For an almost similar price, the Realme 6 Pro offers faster charging, a telephoto camera, and a better software experience. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is the cheapest of them all, it lacks the fancy screen with a high refresh rate and it is also the slowest charger in the package.
If you don't have budget constraints, we recommend purchasing Poco X2 and Realme 6 Pro, the former being our first choice. However, if you just want good value for money without compromising on performance, Redmi Note 9 Pro is for you.
