Good Friday Meditation: You Tore The Veil
Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.
Mathew 27:50-52
“And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” Now you have to understand that the temple is 'naos', the Holy of Holies, and the Holy of Holies had a barrier so that no one could go in there. Only the high priest, once a year on the Day of Atonement, could go into the holy of holies, where the arch of the covenant was, and there sprinkle blood on behalf of the nation for their sins on the mercy seat on the top of the arc. And the high priest going in there had to have bells on his garment, so that if he had gone in there in any sense unclean and God had killed him, they would know he was dead because they wouldn’t hear the bells. As long as they heard the bells, they knew he was still alive and moving around.
This is symbolic of the fact that people were shut out of God’s presence. No one really could go in there. And it wasn’t a gradual change. When Jesus died on the cross, God Himself ripped that curtain from top to bottom. Ripped it, because Jesus had done what no priest could ever do. Only one priest, a high priest, could go in there, and he couldn’t take anybody with him, nor could he make the way for anyone else to come. But at the death of Jesus, God himself ripped the curtain wide open and the Holy of Holies was open to all. And by the way, this was 3:00 in the afternoon on Passover, and the temple would have been jammed with people. In one moment, the Holy of Holies that no one had ever seen was completely exposed to everyone. No more Day of Atonement. No more high priests. No more priests. No more sacrifices. No more barrier. And soon the whole temple would be trampled by the pagan Romans. And to this day, never ever rebuilt. At this moment, the corruption of that robber’s den started to come down. And what was the father saying? Access is open to all. Christ the great high priest did what no priest could ever do. He threw the way to God open. He ripped the barrier. And the Father punctuated His work by Himself ripping the curtain.

The Ruins Mansion is the remains of an ancestral home built in 1920 by a wealthy sugar baron named Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson. Don Mariano constructed the mansion as a testament of his love for his Portuguese wife, Cora Maria Osorio Rosa-Braga, after she passed away in 1911. Maria, who was pregnant with their eleventh child at the time, lost her and their baby’s lives after figuring in an accident. Don Mariano built the structure in a 440-hectare sugar plantation situated in the border of present-day Talisay and Bacolod. Its architecture was described as Italianate due to deriving inspiration from Italian Architecture. However, it was later set aflame in 1942 by Filipino guerilla fighters employed by the United States Armed Forces during the Second World War. This was done in order to prevent its use as a military office by the Invading Japanese Forces. It continuously burned for three days until only its current cement frame was left standing. The original intention was to burn it to the ground. Despite losing the majority of the mansion, its ruins have been recognized as one of the architectural wonders of the Philippines. It has also gained titles such as the “Taj Majal of the Philippines.” -guidetothephilippines.ph #TheRuins #TheRuinsBacolod #Travel #Philippines (at The Ruins Talisay City Negros Occidental) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoWXYbBvWjK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

sorbetes sunday
on the same sunday, after a quick trip to the 1920’s, me and my friends were then transported to the 1800’s — on the grounds of molo church, that is.
the church stands tall in all its glory and grace across the molo mansion which i have mentioned in my previous post. it is also known as the saint anne’s church, gothic church, and all women’s church. saint anne church because she is the patron saint of the district of molo, gothic church because of its gothic-renaissance elements in its structure, and all women’s church because all the saint statues inside are women. so cool, right?
it was built on 1831 under fray pablo montaño and finally completed on 1888 by fray agapito buenaflor under the supervision of don jose manuel lacson. one tower was destroyed during the world war ii but was repaired later on. come the year of 1992, it was declared as a national landmark by the national historical institute. it is the only gothic church outside metro manila.
on that sunny sunday, we visited it and chanced upon a sorbetero outside. to anyone who does not know, a sorbetero is street vendor who sells sorbetes (traditional ice cream). this is very common in the philippines. sorbetes is most commonly called the “dirty ice cream” because, well, it is sold in the streets. it is peddled in colorful wooden pushcarts by the sorbeteros and comes in bright happy colors — violet, yellow, green and many more in sugar cones. now that looks like a really happy treat, isn’t it? enough to cool one’s self under the heat of the yellow sun. oh, it reminds me so much of my childhood when i’d rush as a bee to a flower each time i hear mamang sorbetero’s bell ringing letting everyone know of his presence and the sweet treat that he brings. i’d ask my mom instantly to buy me one, wide-eyed with a very childish pout, and she’d contemplate about it at first (because, hey, it's the so-called dirty ice cream!) but then eventually and hesitantly gives in. oh, the simple joys of being a child and mother’s ever protective heart. anyway, whatever it is called, i’m a big fan of it. it is always a delight for the soul.
i finished the sorbetes in less than five minutes! we had our scoops of violet (ube), yellow (queso or cheese), and green (avocado) in a small cone instead of the big one and boy, it was quickly melting! i need to finish it at an instant. after which, we decided to go inside the church, said a little prayer, and i told them its history. they were impressed. i also noticed that there was a convent beside it and i only noticed it on that very day! how could i not see it before? but it makes so much sense that it was situated then and there because molo church is the all women’s church, after all. ah, what great realization, isn’t it? i love learning a thing or two a day. learning never really stops — even when you’re five, sixteen, or eighty.

Bacolod Ruins

Mansion Talisay , Talisay, Filipinas.

(Kuha mula Molo Mansion)
Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA)

Barquillos - The barquillos from Iloilo are modeled after the Spanish barquillos and are created with butter, sugar, milk, flour, egg, vanilla, and milk. This popular snack among Filipinos originated from Jose and Bessie De Ocampo's simple cuisine experiment of blending leftover "ostya" (milk and sugar) with leftover sugar. The aforementioned recipe is now a traditional pasalubong item and well-liked Filipino snack all around the nation.
Spanish-speaking people refer to a flat wafer iron plate that is used to cook barquillos as a barquillera, hence the name "barquillos." When utilizing a barquillera to create the ideal, crispy cylindrical wafer, every barquillos is manufactured with care and precision.
A further suggestion for you to enjoy your barquillos is to combine it with your preferred ice cream or other desserts.
Tumblr media

At dapat natin itong sulitin.

Today I went to The Ruins and the love story behind this just made me think of rivamika ( everything at this point just makes me think of rivamika) . its a tragic love story but its so beautiful.
Tumblr media
The ruins was a mansion that was made to honor the late wife of Mariano Lacson, Maria Braga. he wanted to immortalize his love for his wife and their children. ( Pic from google )
sooo uhhh Rivamika Ruins Au?
Levi ackerman was a rich bachelor who loved to travel the world, during one of his travels abroad, In one of his trips, he saw Mikasa Ackerman – A daughter of a ship captain, Believing that they are a “match made in heaven”, he talked to mikasa and asked for her hand in marriage.
Levi Ackerman was successful at winning Mikasa's heart and they married each other, The two settled in Levi's ancestral home in his homeland. The happy couple was blessed with ten children.
However, the happy days of the couple was followed by an unexpected incident that took the life of Mikasa. She was pregnant with their eleventh child when she met an accident – she slipped on their bathroom.
during that time, it would take a total of four days to fetch the nearest physician, and bring her to attend to Mikasa’s needs. Before the doctor had arrived, Mikasa and the baby have passed away leaving him greatly heartbroken.
Levi Ackerman’s intense love and desire to keep his wife Mikasa forever in his memory led him to build a mansion for him and their children – its remains is now known as The Ruins.
However the intense incidents between and the Japanese and the Filipino guerilla soldiers during the World war 2 caused the great structure to be burned down, And while some parts of it may have been lost to history, The remains of it still stands to this day.

In the middle of a vast sugarcane plantation lies a skeletal frame of what used to be a massive family mansion. It may be stripped of what made it an opulent abode, but its size and details give hints of its luxurious past. It was built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson, a sugarcane baron. Built in the 1900s, The Ruins serve as the top attraction of Negros Occidental in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Beyond its aesthetics, it is adored for its tragic history.

A Vacation to Cherish
Tumblr media
When my mother was looking a hotel for vacation, Alta Vista De Boracay catches our hearts because of it’s panoramic view which is located in island of Boracay’s highest peaks. It was very relaxing  and comfortable to stay there with its modern and spacious rooms so we are planning to visit there again to unwind and enjoy the serenity of its paradise. We enjoyed day and night swimming in their pools because of its lovely view downhill at the back of the pool and its warm pool for the kids. Their buffet food was delicious and make us satisfied.
Tumblr media
Boracay beach was one of the most beautiful beach here in the Philippines or even in the world because of its fine white sand, blue crystal clear water and the stunning view of the sunset. There are a lot of activities to do there like surfing, paraw sailing, banana boat ride and so much more. It’s our first time to try surfing which was difficult at first but when you learned how to balanced yourself  in the surfboard you will enjoy it. As a kid we loved playing sands, molding sand, and building castle’s so I had fun together with my cousin and my sibling’s and we also enjoy swimming in the blue crystal clear water of Boracay. The Boracay’s Grotto is known as a recognizable landmark in Boracay so we didn’t miss the chance to have pictures there.
Tumblr media
After a vacation in Boracay we also went to Negros Occidental, the province of my mother. That was an opportunity to visit again the Campuestohan Highland Resort with it’s beautiful scenery surrounded by the mountains and adventurous attractions were always excited to come there. It has so many swimming pools you can choose like Shark wave pool, foam pool, river pools and kiddie pools with fantastic colorful slides. The Shark Wave is my favorite pool because I really enjoy the waves together with my relatives. The slide’s where fun too, they also have a lot of activities to enjoy which was challenging and adventurous like zipline, rope course, sky bicycle and so much more. But unfortunately the kids are not allowed to do that adventurous experience.
Tumblr media
There are so many attractions here in Campouestohan like life-size replicas of superheroes, animals, dinosaur’s and celebrities you can take a photo. If you want to overnight in Campuestohan, there are different log cabins and rooms for you to stay in, such as Bonita Huts, Tee Pee Huts, King Kong Room and etc. We chose Bonita Hut because of it’s cute and unique design. We also walk at the hanging bridge and enjoy the panoramic view. They allowed there guests to bring there own foods and drinks but they also have a restaurant in which you can chose a variety of food that taste good.
Tumblr media
After Campuestohan Highland Resort, my family visited The Ruins one of the most romantic place in the Philippines, the structure and design of its house was amazing, even how many decades has past the structure of the mansion was still in a good condition. The Ruins is a historical mansion in Talisay, Negros Occidental that owned by  the family of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson and Maria Braga Lacson. The mansion was built in early 1900s in the memory of his Portuguese wife Maria Braga Lacson who died during the birth of their eleventh child. I am so grateful and thankful to my family to have those opportunity and experiences to travel. And praise God for guiding and protecting us along our way. Our heart’s are full of joy and meaningful memories in those journey.

a trip to the 1920’s
on sunday, the seventh of may, i reunited with a good college friend who visited my city — iloilo city. i gave her and her workmate who tagged along a tour. of course, it wouldn’t be complete without visiting the molo mansion (also known as the yusay-consing mansion but originally known as lacson-yusay mansion).
you see, i am fond of anything vintage, pretty, and historic and this mansion is all of it. sometimes, i feel like i was born from a long time ago, maybe even centuries! or maybe i am just an old soul. maybe that’s the reason why i am drawn to anything that reminds of the past. quick background, this heritage house was built in 1926 and is located in the district of molo, iloilo city. it stands across the molo church and it awes both locals and visitors with its neoclassical and art deco features. [trivia: molo is called the athens of the philippines. click here to know more]. it was built by the couple doña petra lacson and don estanislao yulo yusay who was a lawyer and a judge. they had ten children and one of them, rosario yusay, inherited the mansion. she lived there with her husband, timoteo consing sr., a former governor. it was then handed down to their son, timoteo consing jr. and wife, nieva ramirez-consing.
anyway, i’ll go back talking about this mansion which stood the test of time. i’ve always seen it growing up because our car would occasionally pass by it from long weekend out-of-town trips. i admire it so much that every time we pass by, i’d take a good look — from the windows, front door, balcony making sure i don’t miss out any detail of the opulence that it once had. never mind that it was decaying, dirty, dying. poor old thing. weeds almost surrounded its every corner. i felt sad for it but this only made me even more curious about its story. it’s just too bad that google wasn’t accessible that time since it was only the early 2000’s. so i left everything in my imagination of what possibly was its history.
fast forward to the present, the house was nothing like the image of it in my mind growing up. it’s now brand new, glimmering with its shiny floors, full of light from the hanging chandelier upon the entrance. i searched about it and since we are in 2023 already, google comes now in handy (thank god for the internet!). i found out that an interior designer decided to restore it to its original look and a multinational company bought it to turn it into a museum. not only it’s now a museum but it’s also a souvenir shop! in the front yard, there’s a mini café serving guests and at the backyard, there is a mini golf area if you want to unwind and play for a bit. wow, it really has come so far. a decade ago, if you told me this (or anyone in the city), i wouldn’t believe it; but i suddenly remember something i read from years ago, “if you take care of things, they last.” — and this mansion is a proof of it. that if we only have the right people who see our value and cherish us, we bloom where we are planted.

THE RUINS, BACOLOD
The ruins is the remains of the ancestral home mansion of the family of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson and Maria Braga Lacson in  Talisay, Negros Occidental, Philippines. This was  built in early 1900′s and inspired by Italian architecture.  A fascinating concrete structure bathing in the dwindling sunlight. The Ruins was once a mansion that was said to be the biggest residential structure in the area at the time. And this was  also known as the “Taj Mahal” of Negros. Amidst the cruelties of life and World War 2, this testament still stood the test of time. This is a great place to relax and bond with your family. You can capture excellent pictures anytime and anywhere. A place that you’ll never regret visiting.
