Not counting Patrochilles:
1) Who are your favorite characters from Greek mythology (in general)? 2) Who are your favorite Homer characters specifically?
Omg what a great question. So I have many many favourites when it comes to Greek myths, it's hard to choose. I basically grew up reading simplified versions of these myths, specifically these children's books by Sofia Zarampouka (a greek author and painter, I'm sure any Greeks following me will recognise these lol):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at all those gorgeous covers. I had the whole series at some point and I have no idea where it is now, but I used to read these over and over when I was younger.
I absolutely loved reading about the labours of Heracles, those were really fun even though I didn't love Heracles himself as a character. I also really liked Theseus' story (Ariadne and her yarn! The maze! The Minotaur! Poor Aegeus dying at the end aksjs so sad) even though, again, I never much liked Theseus as a character haha. Atalanta was one of my favourites and her myth is very cool, and I also liked Perseus' story a lot. Antigone is a huge favourite, as well as Iphigeneia. I find their stories very compelling and very tragic and I think about them a lot!!!!
Another one that I absolutely love is Medea and her story with Jason and the Argonauts. The Argonauts on their own have a very interesting myth (heroes that sail to a strange land with strange customs in search of the mythical golden fleece) but the appearance of Medea and her later story with Jason is what makes it a fascinating story for me. She is the embodiment of what most Greeks at the time would find at once incredibly alluring and incredibly threatening: she is foreign (the Other), beautiful, powerful, she has hidden knowledge and magic, she defies her own father and kills her brother to help Jason escape. And when Jason, dickhead that he is, abandons her to marry someone else, she commits the ultimate taboo of killing her own children. She is such a polarising and blood-chilling character and I really love seeing how much she has inspired artists through the centuries.
As for Homeric characters, I do love Hector a lot, and the moments when he appears in the Iliad are among my favourites, alongside all the Patrochilles moments. I find Nestor very entertaining and he's always a delight when he appears, and I also enjoy Diomedes' and Odysseus' bro chemistry a lot lol. Clytemnestra is also one of my favourite characters in Greek myth in general. Technically it's Euripides' version of her that I love, based on his Iphigeneia at Aulis play, she doesn't appear in the Homeric works but she is mentioned so it counts lol. I also really love Briseis-- even though she talks very little in the Iliad, I still love her characterisation and the overall role and significance she has in the story. Another one I really love is Priam, I cannot read the passages where he appears in the Iliad without tearing up, he's just such a kind and noble person and his interactions with other characters in the epic give so much depth and nuance to Trojan society and culture and the tragedy that befell them.
Most of my fave Homeric characters are from the Iliad, but I should give special mention to some Odyssey characters I really love. I always found Circe very intriguing and the descriptions of her island and her magic etc are SO interesting and I wish we had been given more!! (Honestly even though I adore the Iliad I always found the Odyssey much more fun to read lol). Telemachus and Peisistratus are also special blorbos (and here I should give a shoutout to the amazing @figsandphiltatos for writing the fic that made me insane for them alsjs 😭🙏)
Gosh this is already so long and I feel like I could talk about this forever ahaha. I probably left a lot of characters and myths out but didn't want to ramble too much. Thank you once again for this question!

character bashing in sw fics is so funny to me bc it's always like... "well my blorbo may have commited war crimes BUT AT LEAST HE WASN'T A BAD JEDI DAD" (i've been reading a lot of qui-gon stuff and it is rough out there... people always complain about qui-gon leaving obi-wan on a war-torn planet with child soldiers but they never ask themselves if obi-wan had bad vibes or was unpleasant to be around). u r literally writing about star wars characters. every one of them sucks. it's part of loving star wars is to accept all your favorite characters are horrible except maybe like... grogu. grow up.
Excuse you, Grogu ate that frog lady's eggs which is clearly worse than any warcrime.
No but seriously the shit Qui-Gon gets just perplexes me. There is so much good stuff to dig into with his character and instead people just skip right over that and go straight for the bashing. He can be such a compelling character!
Even just excluding the Jude Watson books and just going of canon, there's so much.
Like, just the implications of being trained by Dooku, the kind of childhood that would have been, and thinking about the reasons Dooku had for joining the Sith. That was his father figure, that was what he grew up in the shadow of! Makes me insane to think about the kind of person that would create!
Or the reverse, the kind of person Qui-Gon would have to be to shape the Obi-Wan we know.
Like, just the things you can fill in this character with from the negative space around him.
If you want to make Qui-Gon into a bad dude you're gonna have to try harder to sell me on it lmao.
Another character that gets bashed on so much is Mace Windu and like, I'm not going to touch on the racism present in that but like. He can be an antagonist in the narrative without being written as an outright dick, you know? His character works really well as a source of conflict in a story but you gotta put the work in to make it make sense for who he is and his motivations instead of just making him shitty for shitty sake. I hate how often fandom puts Mace in stuff and makes him 'guy who is a dick to Anakin for no reason' instead of making him a complex and compelling character with honestly pretty valid reasons for his tension with Anakin. (also i hc that just being around Anakin gives Mace shatter-point induced migraines so Mace can't help but be a little snappish anytime he's near Anakin for more than 2.5 seconds. But because Anakin's brain is a traumatized rat on a wheel spinning round and round in a self destructive spiral, he takes Mace bitching at him as a sign that Mace hates his very existence when really it's like Mace looks at Anakin adn thinks: that motherfucker (affectionate))
Sorry- my sleep meds are hitting hard so I am probably writing gibberish

now tell me some about your bg3 blorbo kallista!! 👀👀
Tumblr media
oooo thank you!! similar warnings for minor (act 1?) spoilers below :) im not actually super well-versed in baldur's gate lore, so some of its vague for the sole reason i have zero idea what i'm talking about lmao
her full name is kallista fortuna raeburn. she prefers the name kalli though usually. or 'the caster'. or 'the artisan'. or 'that tiefling down the road with the weird magical abilities'
she's about 27, turning 28 mid-campaign. 5'6", asmodeous tiefling sorc with a penchant for electricity and of course -- fire <3
( the wild magic bit doesn't help much )
grew up in a semi-major town outside baldur's gate. she worked primarily as an artisan at the request of her house mother after leaving the orphanage she grew up in. she loves to make things with her hands.
on that thought, she ended up in an orphanage shortly after her parents disappeared. kallista has never found out what happened to them, but it is part of her sub-story. her parents were adventurers, not unlike who she'd eventually become, and often took off on long trips. however it was unusual when her father didn't return after a particular excursion, and her mother went after him -- never to return again. kallista believes them dead, but has never really stopped looking. they left her with a pendant that would direct her back to the matching one her father wore, but finding it crushed and buried at seventeen certainly didn't help matters. her mother's is still out there, keeping the pendant warm, but she's never had the means to find it when it lead out to open ocean.
her father was a seldarine drow while her mother was a tiefling.
with the others often not-so-well-veiled distrust of her because of her tiefling background, kallista became a bit of a wily one early on. she's a little too dexterous for her own good (her claws allow her to attempt lock picking), and a bit of a charismatic smooth talker. it allowed her to sneak in and out of the orphanage, lie and often persuade others to give her what she wanted. usually she was rather benevolent, it just could get destructive if she forgot details (like what she told whom or how she had gotten in/left the night prior). high dex/charisma score v. low wisdom/int score troubles
very much a 'react first, ask questions later' person. easily spooked. not a good idea to sneak up on her. however not so easily grossed out (collects specimen off battlefields like it's nothing. likely is always covered in...someone's blood. not always her's.)
she's actually incredibly smart in the arcana, even with her avg. intelligence score. she has a crazy photographic memory, and if she's experienced the spell firsthand, it's way easier to remember the history attached to it and the grimoire it was in.
very chaotic good! she's always down to help someone...but that doesn't mean she'll do it right. or legally. but you lived right? stop getting bogged down in the details.
her closest party members are likely halsin (her RO), lae'zel (she has a weird amount of respect for her...and is terrified of her), shadowheart (similar reasons), karlach (she had a major crush on her early on before it waned into 'no, i just really respect and like you around' ) and astarion (the only person she organically got to know without being scared of him)
not so much a fan of gale, and largely academically curious about wyll. of course, he's her friend, but she's never met a warlock prior to him. she likes to learn, even if she's a little nosy. actually, yeah, she's similarly academically fascinated by gale and his problems with mystra. she just thinks he's a little odd (and perhaps pretentious...he's a proper wizard to her wild magic sorcery)
( sorry weird amount of astarion & kallista content...ivelina's run will be romancing him bc im not normal about him )
astarion is a weird case for her because unlike the others, she didn't immediately clock him as a threat. yes, he did try to sink his fangs into her and suck her dry, but after the initial 'holy shit youre so very very lucky i did not fireball you into next week' wore off, oh boy astarion got bombarded with so many questions. he thinks he would've been better off had she tried to stab him.
( she's a sciency gal at heart )
still, she likes his sarcastic nature and his willingness to be vulnerable with her later on. they become rather quick friends (well, she calls him a friend the day after he bites her, it takes him a while to get past 'pest-like woman who won't leave me be')
she regularly lets him drink from her, it takes him a while to come around to actually, well, even coming close to enjoying it, but somewhere after kallista stops flinching everytime he does it they have a nice amount of comradery. there's some fleeting romantic interest that isn't reciprocated by either party, but it isn't unusual to find them sitting by the fire later, the pair of them discussing the days events...and maybe astarion making sure the all-too-nice tiefling doesn't pass out from blood loss.
they nitpick at each other quite a lot. usually in good fun, in the wiity, dramatical way he does and the sarcastic, innocent-but-not really way she does. if astarion wasn't incredibly pale and kallista did without the horns and tail, it wouldn't be all that bad of a guess that they were half siblings in another life.
on that note, she is...not good with boundaries. unlike koda this appears more as her inserting herself into everyone's problems and lives. mostly because her own is such a mystery and her feeling like she's never belonged turned her into a social chameleon. she needs people to like her. after all, if she's all-knowing, it means she can control what others think of her...and if she stays in their good graces, they won't leave her, right? if she becomes a fixture in their lives, they have to stick around. right? yeah. yeah...
( her parents disappearing + her rough childhood in the orphanage did...wonders for her self-perception )
in the "best" sense of the word, she doesn't really know when no means no. and it takes just about everyone (but especially lae'zel post vlaakith reveal) to get her to back off and relax. she struggles immensely with the lack of stability in her life, and getting tadpole-napped did not help matters. on the outside it shows more as her just wanting to be "helpful", but in reality she subconsciously wants to give you a reason to stay around her. to need her for something. it's manipulative -- she doesn't know it, but i do.
is learning how to navigate her new relationship with halsin. while she is monogamous, she respects that he is not, but perhaps gets a little forlorn thinking about the after...and how he may not always be around. or that her little tadpole family may not be either. it keeps her up at night.
living in the here and now is hard with so many emotional loose ends for her. but halsin does his best to sooth her worries, and peppers her with enough affection to garner attention from the others. kallista never minds this. wyll has not slept peacefully in a minute.
their dynamic is very much that she's the spitfire short girlfriend who has to remind the barkeep her beloved teddy bear of a boyfriend did not want pickles and so help her hells if they didn't take it off his sandwich--
has been to baldur's gate a few times on trips for the business she used to work for. however in-game, it's her first time going by herself...and so much has changed.
has a scar on her face after accidentally slicing open a part of her face with a paring knife when she was practicing telekinesis as a teenager.
thank you for asking im incapable of shutting up <3333

you're part of a machine, you are not a human being
- low on self esteem so you run on gasoline
ignacio "iggy" aguilar. a study in ;; life is a highway, patchwork tattoos, your hair in the wind, choosing your own family, sitting on a cloud, a carefree persona is a lie, this is not a dream you are part of a machine, a clear blue sky, home isn't a place its a feeling, the weight of the world on your shoulders, shock me like an electric eel, songs as oral storytelling.
Tumblr media
HI EVERYONE! i'm hawk, short for hawkeye lol, but i'm really excited to meet you all and write with everyone! this is my lil blorbo iggy and i'm really excited to show him off :3 i haven't rped on tumblr in years so if i seem dumb its not that im just old lol
⏤ (  xolo maridueña.  21.  cis man +  he/him.  )  new  rome  doesn’t  wait  for  anyone, IGNACIO “IGGY” AGUILAR, child  of JUPITER with  the  power  of  ORNITHOKINESIS.  it  must  be  your  SECOND  year  here  because  of  your  ITINERANT attitude  about  classes  starting  again,  but  i  bet  your  professors  appreciate  your  MAGNANIMOUS  nature  in  the  classroom  while  you  study  MUSIC.  after  class,  you’ll  always  sacrifice  your  CARNE ASADA  in  the  dining  hall,  and  if  people  can’t  find  you,  they  should  try  checking the PHOEBUS  BAR or  by  looking  for  WILD CURLS STYLED BY WIND, A VAST OPEN SKY STRETCHING AS FAR AS YOU CAN SEE- DOTTED WITH CLOUDS, HOME IS WHO YOU MAKE IT, AND A SMILE YOU CAN FOLLOW INTO BATTLE.  good  luck  this  year,  IGGY.  (  hawk,  25,  mst ).
HISTORY
ignacio aguilar was born to valeria aguilar, a once popular and successful musician, now relegated to traveling across the country playing small venues. sure every venue sells out, but that doesn't carry the same weight anymore.
therefore, iggy grew up on the road. he never received a formal education, in part because valeria was quite worried about the monsters that would seek out such a powerful demigod. she taught him what she could, as well as the various band members and groupies that traveled with them.
valeria's band and the crew that traveled with them were like family. all of them had their own flaws, but they all loved iggy like he was their own.
it was during his 13th birthday that he learned about the world of roman and greek gods. while camping in the pacific northwest with the band and his mother, a pack of oversized wolves began circling the camp. it wasn't until iggy walked out of the tent, and the wind began to pick up at an alarming rate. in the ensuing fight, iggy managed to scare off most of the wolves off into the woods, but not without injury. iggy now has a distinctive scar stretching across his face from his right eyebrow to left cheek. after that valeria caved and shared all that she knew about the world.
ever since iggy was determined to see what all he could do. that was how he learned how to fly. starting by jumping out of trees, now iggy is able to fly with nearly no problems. while it is draining on him, think about it like a jog in terms of energy drain- unless he's attempting to book it which is much more akin to a sprint.
iggy never went to camp jupiter until he was 18. he insisted on staying with his mother as long as possible. valeria had many issues of her own, and many battles. iggy saw all of this, and saw that he was the only one to be able to help her. the only reason he went to camp was because she told him to. he was nearly instantly claimed, much to his own anger.
iggy is not a fan of the gods. believing and blaming them for anything awful in the world, but being the son of the man in charge made it worse. his father could have helped his mother, but to him it seemed like all he did was ruin her.
HCS
iggy got his first tattoo when he was 13. a wolf with blood on the fangs in an americana style. ever since he's just gotten covered in them. covering his arms and chest, with a few now appearing on his leg as time has gone on.
his mother taught him how to play a classic guitar when he was small, and now he can play most string instruments thanks to the band. his favorite is still the classic guitar, but he also likes the banjo and electric guitar.
his favorite genera of music are blues and folk, and he's often listening to music as much as possible.
he likes to just float around sometimes, like jumping out of a tree and just going with the breeze
iggy is a very skilled fighter, despite his relatively new training. his weapon of choice is a spear or javelin, though since joining university he's been practicing with a bastards sword (long one armed sword)

Hiiya if it's not to dumb of a question for I haven't managed to read The Silmarillion yet (such a bummer!) but why is Elrond so afraid of oaths? What kind of trauma did they cause him? D:
Hey! There are absolutely no dumb questions! Especially not in the silm fandom, where it is sometimes really hard to differentiate between canon, headcanon and sort of canon because Tolkien mentioned it in that one letter😅 Asking questions is just the everyday reality here!
I'd say that Elrond's fear of oaths is more of the fandom thing - in The Lord of the Rings he does indeed emphasize that "no oath or bond is laid on you to go further than you will" but I don't think he actually goes any further than "oaths are bad, guys, don't swear them" (but he might be just very good at hiding his trauma responses - I guess after over 6000 years he had to eventually learn it ).
Anyway, Elrond's Oath Trauma... I was wondering how to answer your question without basically explaining (and spoiling) the entire plot of The Silmarillion, so let's try it this way:
Basically, almost at the beginning of The Silmarillion An Oath is sworn. This event has serious consequences throughout the entire First Age - death, battles, wars, kinslayings (I am pretty sure that it's the only time in the history of Middle Earth when elves were killing each other)... Well, it's not a fun time to be alive, honestly.
Elrond and his family are directly affected by the oath - firstly, his mother's kingdom gets attacked (directly because of the oath which wanted to be finally fulfilled*) and she's the only survivor of her entire family (as a three years old girl, so yeah). Then, years later, the place where she and her family (=her husband and their sons: Elrond and Elros) live gets attacked again, for the same reason. By the same guys. Elrond and his brother are only six years old (if I remember correctly) when they basically lose everyone they've ever known (including their mother and father, who's... well, out there on a quest, let's say). How to make it even more messed up for Elrond? Well, he and his brother get kidnapped/adopted/simultaneously both (the fandom's opinions vary) by the very same guys that initiated both attacks and swore the oath. The Silmarillion does indeed say that love grew after between them, so eventually it all started to look more like a very messed up family instead of me, my brother and our captors situation, but still, Elrond (together with his brother) was raised by the war criminals who at this time were already very tired of everything, including all the things that the oath made them do. We don't get much information about Elrond's childhood at this point, but I bet one of the chief rules of the house was "do not swear any oaths" (among "do not talk to strangers" and "eat your vegetables"). He probably saw (and heard about) enough oath-caused death and pain to confirm his belief that oaths are not fun and should be avoided at all costs.
*I am just basing it on what The Silmarillion says, without getting into a discussion of "but did the oath really have such powers?" - I've seen some amazing analysis written about this topic, but it would make this post unnecessarily complicated.
Anyway, I hope it kind of answers your question😅 If you like to suffer with your favourite characters, I highly recommend The Silmarillion and if something is not clear, please feel free to reach to me! I love to ramble about my beloved problematic blorbos 💜

1 and 3 for one metapocalypse and tf2 blorbo of your choice? I think I spelled that right...
ooo thanks for the ask!! ;;
pickles the drummer for my mtl blorbo!
1) sad headcanon - pickles and charles grew unexpectedly close over the course of the several months leading up to his 'death'. when charles passed away, nathan broke down and couldn't function as the band leader over his catatonic state, toki was inconsolable and could do little more than babble in front of the camera, and murderface & skwisgaar didn't feel like they were up to the task of organizing. so it fell to pickles to help write the eulogy, manage the funeral, and attend to the reporters. but it utterly drained him. pickles was a husk operating on the sense of duty he felt towards the friend burning on the pyre- and the sheer spite from the fact that the world at large seemed to look at their loss as a spectacle. by the end of the day, pickles was exhausted, angry, but most of all, he was miserable.
2) drinking headcanon - pickles is generally nice, but is more prone to pulling terrible, disagreeable shit when he's not sober. when murderface taught them the art of being a dick, he decided to take it one step further and, together with nathan, pull a prank on charles.
i'll spare you the details of the prank because 1) it really is a terrible shit move on pickles' part without context (tbh, even with), 2) the context is very long-winded, but it ended with charles becoming red-faced angry. in the following days, the boys were met with radio silence from charles. pickles wasn't sure if he wanted to face that sober or drunk.
bidwell for my tf2 blorbo!
1) sad headcanon - this is less of a sad hc and more of a scenario i keep rotating in my head but? when saxton gets into a huge fight with his father, he decides he doesn't want to be anywhere near his estate and shows up at bidwell's doorstep. it's bidwell's day off and he hasn't gotten a chance to clean up his dingy apartment, but he lets him in anyways. saxton's tall- this is made more apparent by his cramped studio apartment. saxton notices how bidwell trips on his feet trying to accommodate him ("do you want some water? or beer? i've only got this one..." or "sorry about the, uh, laundry.") and reassures him that it's fine, your place is practically a sanctuary because you're here neither my father or his cronies are on my ass all day.
2) drinking headcanon - bidwell's a social drinker and gets more affectionate when he's drunk! it wigs reddy out, since he's used to his no-nonsense professionalism.
