Unfortunately I haven't finished this project in time for May 4th, (things have been hectic lately) but I opted to show the concept art for it. Better to have something than nothing!

The destiny of a male Dathomirian Zabrak is one of inferiority and hardship to the point of discardment and segragation. And it starts when they are born.

Will be uploading the storyboard in the next few weeks. Better late than never!

It was Maul's father who was killed after Maul's birth, per tradition, by Maul's mother.

As, I imagine, a strong traditionalist, would Maul ask you to fulfill this tradition post-partum, or would he concede new purpose to this life and the relatable selfishness of wanting to watch your legacy grow?

Maul believes in survival not snuff. Sorry to say. The only person he'd willingly give his life to is his master, per the Rule of Two, which overrides any traditions offered by the Nightsisters to which he lays no claim whatsoever, excepting in the aftermath of Talzin's death when she willingly gives her life for him against Sidious that piece of shit.

Granted, I like Legends. It offers a lot of good food, but this is one of those things where, if you pit his indoctrination and Sith training against what he might've inherited through his family (if he spent any time with them, which he didn't until they were dead) you're gonna have a bad time.

So, okay. Let's hypothesize that Maul returns to Dathomir and gets that old altar shattered and everything goes the way it should in Rebels (he was abandoned there post Crimson Dawn fuckery etc. and he meets Ezra and whatever) where is he learning about these traditions that pre-date him that he's trying to reclaim?

little darth maul related question/rant - is his birth mom kycina or mother talzin? i was going by clone wars but while i was doing research into what his real name actually is to prove it to my brother i found a comic that says talzin is his real mom and kycina is just one of her witches who gave him to the sith to save him from being a nightbrother? if thats true then maul might be his true name because in that comic talzin only calls him by maul and she wouldnt know of his changed sith name. i need answers. or atleast more theories to check.

There was a stranger on Dathomir.

A malfunctioning ship had crashed somewhere in the vast territory taken over by the swamp. Kycina hadn't seen it happen, but she didn't need to see it to know exactly where the ship had crash-landed, and exactly why it had happened. The wind carried the voices of the Sisters lost to time and hardship and they whispered about the whole ordeal to anyone who would listen.

There's a man-thing in the swamps, their voices echoed the deeper Kycina ventured in this lands.

She moved swiftly, avoiding the fumes of the swamp for the sake of the two children she carried with her on her back. Maul and Savage, while very young– too young to fend for themselves, often accompanied her on her trips outside of the safety of their home, but she'd never taken them this far from the small area she'd invested sweat, tears, magick and blood into securing for them.

There was something driving her, guiding every step she took. A pull that felt ancient– even more ancient than the ruins she'd lived in her whole life, somehow even more ancient than the dark energy that made Dathomir as it was. A pull she couldn't resist, no matter how much her logical mind told her that it wasn't safe to approach a stranger, or that bringing her children this far away from home could endanger them. For every thought of concern for herself or her children's safety, there was another small voice telling her that they would be okay, that there was no danger. She didn't quite believe that voice, but she was granting it the benefit of the doubt, mostly because she was far too curious about what might be the cause of it, and something told her she would get the answer she sought if she kept moving forward.

Despite their young age, both Maul and Savage knew to be quiet when their mother was on the prowl. They associated her 'hunting' stance with food, and they knew that there would be no food if they scared it away. Their small hands clung to her shoulders and biceps, the weight of them shifting from the makeshift sling to fully onto her back as Kycina leaned forward into a crouched position.

There was the outsider. A man-thing indeed, looking as out of place as a fish in the desert. His clothing gave him away: a Jedi. Kycina had only ever heard of them from her mother, and nothing Talzin had to say about the Jedi and their cult of the light made her want to get any closer. So she watched him as he assessedthe sustained by his ship, his back turned to the wilderness– his first and perhaps last mistake.

A pale blue creature emerged from the bushes, moving silently on eight legs with four eyes that focused on its target, its mandibles twitching in preparation as it advanced to get in position. Bane back spiders were sneaky creatures who knew their way around the Dathomirian landscapes and, like many of the beings that inhabited the planet, they also knew their way around the force. A feral adult bane back could be deadly even to the most seasoned hunter, and certainly it could be deadly to a stranger, too.

She should let it attack the stranger, it would serve him as a lesson about how he should never offer such an easy opening to any possible attack. But as soon as she watched the spider's body lower to the ground and its mandibles drip with its acidic saliva, her body began to move. Her sons were startled by how quickly she raised and aimed her bow, which prompted them to make noise and alerted the stranger and the eight-legged beast. Before it could rush to attack, Kycina's arrow pierced right through it, pinning it to a tree. Watching its abdomen implode from the accumulated acid was a disgusting sight, even more disgusting when the smell of the acid reached her nostrils. But her attention didn't remain on the now dead arachnid for long, seized once again but the stranger.

Only she could be foolish enough to save a JEDI .

Im going to split this up in 2 parts

Part 1 : star wars

Maul is extremely talented at drawing. He leans more into it after Savage and him are travelling together.

His memory is top notch , hes the kinda dude that remembers what he ate 5 months ago at 4 in the morning ( if he has a lover i can see him using this to get them like niche ,one time mentioned gifts)

His sleep schedule is none existent. He tried a few times to fix it but since palpetine needs him 24/7 , he hasn’t yet . After Savage gets him back , he tries to help Maul and it goes pretty well . (Like 6 hours per night on average)

The biggest problem is nightmares. He has ALOT of nightmares. Some are from his childhood, he thinks he’s stuck in the gray room on Mustafar or he sees the fish in palpetine tanks dying. It gives him alot of stress and anxiety. Some nightmares are about Obi Wan, he isn’t scared of him but more of the fact that he didn’t win . He gave his entire childhood and didn’t win against someone that was raised by loving people that cared for his wellbeing.

He dreamed as a kid alot about Dathomir.

He is a mercifull killer , he normally doesn’t play with his prey . He tries to kill them as quick as possible ( look at the fish even qui gon ) this mentality gets ingrained into his mind after he got cocky with Obi Wan .

Maul is smaller then most zebrak males because he was malnourished as a child . Savage has asked about this before but Maul reflects by stating its for his fightstyle.

Maul horns are terribly kept. He never met another zebrak before he was like 24(?) so he literally never knew he had to take care of them . Savage is horrified by the state of his horns when he finds him . Later he helps him out with that and now they are alright.

ALSO his tattoos are fading and need a going over.

He feels extreemly guilty towards both his brothers for leaving them behind. He never knew Feral and he hates himself for that . He sometimes wants to know more about him but hes convinced Savage will be hurt so he hasnt .

He is extremely confused towards his mother Telzin . He feels a certain sense of gratitude towards her for bringing him back but he hates for what she did towards his brothers and for giving him away . ( I actually love the legends version where he has a human mother (Kycina ?) even more but clone wars made it work better so….)

Part 2 : modern au

To me it makes sense if him and his brothers had a tattoo parlor or like a piercing shop.

Or like a business salesman

He drives a red and black kawasaki ninja 400 .

Maul still has a lot of scars mainly on his abdomen . He got into a lot of streetfights as a kid/ teenager.

He loves to give gift . He generally doesn’t think that people will stick around for just him so he sees it as paying them for their service.

He has a pet reptile a Bibron’s Coral Snake . Because he finds them cool .( he ended up in the hospital one time because of her)

He hates obi wan because they have a work rivalry.( will rend to his lover about this )

StarWars/Maul Headcanon (I will not write this, it does nothing besides amuse me, but if someone does plz God lmk I will read it 10000x): if Maul were ever (unwillingly) reunited with his entire immediate biological family (Kycina, not Talzin, cos VOM, + whoever the fuck Dad is & the bros opress), he would become instantly, furiously, BITTERLY aware that he is at least six inches shorter than everyone else including Mom, and would reject them all immediately based on that alone.

Bonus points if there is a younger female sibling who has not yet hit puberty and can look him dead in the eye.

For the Ultron/Mikitta kid:

Her name is Sidzla. It was my suggestion and one that Ultron liked. It's an old-fashioned nickname of Cecilia, which is also the name of my 2nd great grandmother. We agreed to give her a combination surname as well, for a couple different reasons, using Ultron as a surname. So she's Sidzla Ultron-Karamäki. I was a bit worried that the name wouldn't be approved, but apparently my justifications were sound.

For the Savage Opress/Gi Kast kids:

Cuyan picked his name himself after he was adopted. He never did tell us his original name; we called him "Blue" until he asserted a preference. (He wasn't a big talker at first.) He still uses Blu or Kebiin (blue in Mando'a) as cover names sometimes.

Feral is named in the memory of Savage's deceased brother, the one that the Nightsisters had Savage himself kill while he was brainwashed by them. It was Savage's idea, but it took some convincing to get him to suggest names at all at first.

Nyn's name is basically a Nightbrother name in Mando'a, one we picked together. It means "hit, strike".

Nuhur is more of a hopeful name. It means "laughter, good times". It kind of just happened. Ironically he turned out to be more of a stoic personality as he grew. 😂

If we were to have yet another kid, we've considered the name Kycina, after one of the very few Nightsisters Savage has positive memories of... But we'll see.
