I feel like Shirley Bennet is definitely the kind of religious person who remains vaguely homophobic on the stance of holier than thou godliness but once she knows someone who is gay is like- "oh. Oh dear. The gays are NOT reincarnations of Satan. Turns out. They're actually quite nice. Hm" and then slowly transitions into a quiet but firm ally.

do y’all ever get like SUPER fixated on stuff???

well when i saved up and got my first musical instrument (a harp) in sky cotl i was DETERMINED to practice the Mipha theme from Zelda botw (because she is my absolute fav).

i did the entire quest for harmony hall and spent DAYS perfecting the melody and trying to match the tune to the theme as good as I was able to.

i finally got it how i wanted to so i could fit it in one of the music memories things and went to Valley to play it in the castle area thing with the manta spirit and the microwaves, and spent hours to get it just right.

so today i log on and as im trying to get my sister to play with me (by bribing her) one of my first ever sky kid friends who i haven’t talked to in a while cause of time zones comes up to me and tells me about how they saw my song and they LOVED IT!

when i tell you that it literally made my day im not exaggerating

it was also so nice to connect with them after not playing together for while, even if it was only for a few minutes.

lesson learned: don’t be afraid to tell people you like their art, writing, music, anything, because it makes people feel good about something that they spent a lot of time on, or maybe they didn’t like how it turned out. it makes people feel good about their work when you like it, so don’t be afraid to tell them!!

This feels very middle school, to be sharing a diagram of my bookshelf while getting distracted from cleaning it, but here ya go. It’s organized the way I’ve always organized my shelves—by personal association (i.e. more chaos than I realized until I was drawing in the arrows). I’m a heavy library user, so I don’t own all my favorite books (yet!). But many favorites do have a permanent place on my shelves. Most books I acquire these days are either hard to find (not in circulation at the library) or hard to read (dense and need to be annotated) or hoarded ARCs (though I read more of those on my Nook). I’d say my taste is a little bit all over, but I like whimsy and absurdity. I like a plot with a wacky scheme and oddball characters or thinky books where nothing happens except for maybe some playing with and stretching of language.

omg I'm so sorry I just called our profession cringe. That was not directed at you, I promise. New librarians are our future!! If you're interested in reference in public libraries, feel free to ask me questions! I've been working in public libraries in various capacities for the past ten years and have spent about half of that working either partially or fully in reference positions so I for better or worse am great at research tangents and overthinking every reference question I have ever had. (Prior to that worked in an academic library, but in a conservation lab as a student assistant so have zero real world knowledge of how academic libraries work lol.)

#here is a story about the laziest i have ever been at the library in recent years:#yesterday a dad dragged his kid to the reference desk and he was like my kid needs to read more #and i was like ok! what do you like to read my friend #and the kid was like idk. books?#and yo i was NOT feeling like doing reader's advisory at 5:15pm when i had been on desk since 10am so i was like #do you like animals? do you want to read a book about facts about your favorite animal?#and the kid LIT UP and the dad had this look on his face like he wanted fiction but it was TOO LATE his kid was going bananas #bc it turns out he loves big cats and i was like WELL my friend we have SO MANY books about big cats and they have PICTURES #and then i saw them walk past later and the kid had like twenty national geographic books and i was like oh good you found something :)#and the dad was like ....yeah 😑 thank you 😑#buddy you said you wanted your kid to read!! you didn't say what!!!#ailing #cage replies #dragonsthough101

I finished Casey McQuiston's I Kissed Shara Wheeler and gods it was amazing, 10/10 recommend. You know, when a high school queer rom-com story actually reconciles you with your own high school memories ten years after, and makes you even more confident in your queerness, you've hit gold. I might have finished the book crying a little, but honestly I saw so much of myself at that age in Chloe Green, I was impacted. And I'm from the other side of the pond, my issues with my high school experience stem from another class of weight (tho in a way, growing up atheist and unknowingly queer in a Muslim country could be put on the same level as growing up atheist and openly bi in Bible belt Alabama).

Anyway. We're not here for me rehashing my teenage trauma. We're here because Casey McQuiston is a formidable writer and I just have One Last Stop to read and then I guess I'll have to wait for her next one.

i . may have fucked up

#let one of the 4th grade girls play fgo on my phone the other day. she bragged abt it to one of the other 4th grade girls. the #other one got upset that she wan't allowed to (she wasn't there at the time) so today i caved and let her play too. but then one of the 3rd #grade boys in the group saw and got jealous so i had to let him play too so he wouldn't tell my boss / bc i don't play favorites #he ended up loving it. asked a few more questions abt the gameplay and Lit Up when i told him it was a gacha #(apparently he LOVES gacha games and actively seeks them out (but is bad at finding them bc he's in 3rd grade))#(his genshin main is amber)#and uhm . i definitely have similarly strong opinions on gacha but they're in the opposite direction #anyways. i mentioned the name of f/go earlier in the conversation and so that's the point where he decided he was going to go home and #download it. and noah fence but there's DEFINITELY some content in f/go which i don't want a 3rd grader to read/see #so fingers crossed that he gets bored somewhere in the middle of fuyuki #n e ways. this kid's taste in video games absolutely fascinates me bc like. on one hand he's tried to reccomend me the fucking. train but i #tries to kill you mascot horror game for ipad babies to ask their parents for merch of. but on the other hand he has an undertale lunchbox #and like. there's a p stark difference between those two things #romeo.txt

had this silly little thought where you ask miguel a bunch of questions about the multiverse

warnings ; this is stupid, miguel is confused, mentions of pregnancy/having a kid, my spanish knowledge is below zero so i used google (feel free to correct me)

“ what did you just ask me? ”

“ i asked what would happen if two people - ” you were pestering miguel with questions about the multiverse for the past hour or so. at first it was a basic conversation regarding what were canon events and how are they established, how the portals work and all the other boring stuff.

“ i heard you the first time. just- where did you get that question from? ”

“ don’t tell me you’ve never wondered how it would work if for example we were to have a kid. like, we’re from different universes. i’m just curious what would happen to the kid in this predicament. ” if you were anybody else he would probably just glare at you and go on with his work but due to your position in his heart he just stood there, absolutely mortified at the example you just provided.

in all honesty you weren’t even that much into the topic but being able to bother miguel just a little and watch him scrunch up his nose whenever you mentioned something that would probably classify you as mentally deranged was your favorite hobby.

“ dios por favor dame fuerza*. no, actually i’ve never thought about that. also that example was really uncalled for. ” he thanked his past self for making the office so dimly lit. if it was any brighter in here he’s 97% sure you would be able to see how his neck and ears go all red.

“ so you admit you don’t know what would happen? ”

“ sí, ahora ¿podemos cambiar el tema?* ”

“ okay, okay… there’s actually one more thing i was curious about. ” miguel only sighed and looked at you with an unimpressed expression.

“ should i be scared? ” at this point he had no idea what to expect, in fact he kinda expected anything. and his imagination was not helping him. you looked up at him with those big pleading eyes that at the same time were full of mischief.

“ if, for example, we were to start dating, would that make me you know… kind of a pedophile..? ” there was an awkward silence and the look he had was to be described only with the sentence “what the fuck”

“ what on god’s green earth are you talking about? ”

“ i mean, you’re from year 2099 right? and im from 2023 in my universe. so that would kind of suggest that technically i would be in my 40s or 50s when you were born right? that just… kind of weird to think about i guess? ”

that, he did not expect in any of his wildest scenarios.

“ i’m going to lose my fucking mind. ” he slumped forward hiding his face in his hands.

“ aw come on miguel! it’s a genuine problem i’m thinking about here! ”
