Todd McFarlane Productions Announces "The New U" Titles
Tumblr media
Todd McFarlanes Spawn Universe is laying the foundation of a lineup of new comics called "The New U." This new era will follow the events of Spawn #350. The first three "The New U" comics are Sam & Twitch: Case Files, Rat City, and Monolith. "The New U" comics will span a variety of genres, including crime, horror, science-fiction, drama, and comedy.
Sam & Twitch: Case Files puts the detectives front and center in their own series. The comic hails from McFarlane and Jon Goff and artist Szymon Kudrański.
Sam & Twitch: Case Files #1 goes on sale on March 27, 2024.
Rat City, from Erica Schultz and Zé Carlos, follows Peter Cairn, ex-soldier, amputee, and Hellspawn in a post-war future. "But Peter isn't dead like Al. Peter got his Spawn powers from the nanites in his prosthetic legs—nanites that were affected when Al Simmons initiated his necroplasmic detonation in the present. Al had no clue that the effects would ripple across—not just space—and but time as well." (Image Comics)
Rat City #1 goes on sale on April 10, 2024.
Monolith, from Sean Lewis and Valerio Giangiordano, is a three part miniseries that explores the Hellspawn Monolith's origin and what his connection is with Omega Spawn.
Monolith #1 (of 3) goes on sale on May 15, 2024.

Mini Reviews: Spider-Punk and Sam and Twitch. 2 reviews this week! #comics #comicbooks
Sometimes, the staff at Graphic Policy read more comics than we’re able to get reviewed. When that happens you’ll see a weekly feature compiling reviews of the comics, or graphic novels, we just didn’t get a chance to write a full one for. These are Graphic Policy’s Mini Reviews and Recommendations. Logan Spider-Punk: Arms Race #2 (Marvel) – I’m having a lot of fun with the sequel to Cody…

How do you feel about the fact that Shin and his story seems completely forgotten as Destiny leans into the whole loss of the Traveler and dead ghosts and all the panic all that inspires when there's actual lore about how Guardians don't /need/ their ghost? And how it's just not addressed in any of this light-focused story, especially as we just had an important guardian lose his ghost and he's still trying to get work done and figure things out?
I really wish we could see Shin show up...
It's... complicated. I feel like his story turned out to be unexpectedly good and too much for Bungie to handle (in a sense that it requires a lot of story focus, it's not something that can be mentioned off-handedly). It had such a complex and multilayered approach to the whole theme of Darkness/Light that everything the game plot itself says about it looks like a flat cardboard in comparison. Can you imagine Rezyl Azzir walking around the Moon, seeing some glowing green snot on the side of the road and going "wow, imma use it now, woohoo! :D"? We were told and shown Darkness is a dangerous tool in the lore multiple times, yet we saw 0 consequences when Guardians massively started to use it. There were some weak attempts to show conflict with Stasis, but it was forgotten super fast, and Strand is just a bland new toy. Dredgens spent years trying to find the balance in using Light and Darkness together and had a ton of lore buildup only to be never mentioned when the time came. Etc, etc. So I'm not surprised nobody remembers Shin never even had his own Ghost to begin with and then had several Ghosts accompanying him in different times, yet he still is one of the most powerful Lightbearers.
But, to be fair:
1. Shin was always shown as special in many ways. Maybe he's just that unique, we can't be sure. Then again, Osiris is no less extraordinary, and I really hope we'll see him in action again someday. I don't believe one's connection with the Light, especially as strong as he had, can be cut forever that easily. I wouldn't want him to simply find a replacement for Sagira though... More like finding a way to feel the Light again even without a Ghost.
2. Characters may never bring it up because they simply don't know it's possible. I doubt Shin shared his story with everyone (at least the true one) and if some people know the truth about how he was resurrected and how many Ghosts he had/has, they both are unlikely to chat about that either.

#ICYMI The new episode of Crossroads of Rockland History is now available for streaming!
Link: https://on.soundcloud.com/HdTiU5C5gwQZYeVH6
We learned all about the new exhibitions at the Historical Society of the Nyacks and at the HSRC.
Episode originally aired on Monday, August 15, 2022, 9:30 am, on WRCR
—>Miriam Hoffman was on hand to discuss “Storytellers from Nyack & Nearby,” the current exhibition at the Historical Society of the Nyacks. The exhibit features the work of 14 authors and illustrators of children’s books, including the local authors Berta and Elmer Hader, who wrote the first children’s book by Americans. The exhibit includes fascinating stories about the authors and illustrators, reviews of some of their noteworthy books, and many stunning illustrations. Several of the books are set in Nyack, with scenes from decades ago that are still recognizable. In addition to the Haders, the authors and Illustrators featured in the exhibition are Jon Agee, Barbara Brenner, Carson McCullers, Beth Goff, Helen Hayes, Ben Hecht, Yaroslava Mills, Toni Morrison, Paul Peabody, Elizabeth Sayles, Mindy Warshaw Skolsky, and Michael Witte.
“Storytellers from Nyack & Nearby” will appeal to anyone who loves children’s literature (who doesn’t?) and anyone who is interested in Nyack history. The exhibition will be welcoming visitors through mid-September. The museum is in the Depew House, 50 Piermont Avenue (enter from the Nyack Library parking lot). It is open Saturdays, 1-4 pm. Donations are encouraged.
Please note that a 45-min expanded version of the interviews can be found here: https://on.soundcloud.com/uZBnLBfuXX24ty798
Auxiliary programming has also taken place in conjunction with “Storytellers from Nyack & Nearby.” On May 28, 2022, Nick Norwood, director of the Carson McCullers Center in Columbus, Georgia, shared how McCuller’s book Sweet as a Pickle and Clean as a Pig came about. The recorded webinar is available for viewing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zjflXSqgF4. For information about future auxiliary programming, visit NyackHistory.org.

—>Susan Deeks spoke about “Uniquely Rockland: Important, Iconic & Oddball Objects” from the HSRC Collection. The collection of the Historical Society of Rockland County comprises thousands of objects that date from the early 18th century to the present. It includes important collections of furnishings original to the family of Jacob Blauvelt, who lived in the historic sandstone and brick farmhouse next door from about 1832 to 1970, as well as objects original to the early farms, industries, and people of Rockland County have donated for more than a century. Each item chosen for this exhibition tells a story about a person or group of people, place, or thing that existed (and may still exist) in Rockland. Text panels in the exhibition are based on the essay “A Brief History of Rockland,” by Thomas F. X. Casey, past County Historian and HSRC President. The exhibition will be open through October 30 at the History Center, 20 Zukor Road, New City. Admission: $5 per person (children 6 and under admitted free).
***
The Historical Society of Rockland County is a nonprofit educational institution and principal repository for original documents and artifacts relating to Rockland County. Its headquarters are a four-acre site featuring a history museum and the 1832 Jacob Blauvelt House in New City, New York.
