　もし間違いがあったらごめんなさい。もちろん、いくつかDAWを持っていて用途によって使い分けているプロデューサーや、その他のDAW (Pro Tools等)を使っている人もいます。EDMでは主流かな、と思う4つのDAWについて紹介させてもらいました。ちなみに私は昔はCubaseを使っていましたが現在はLogic Pro Xです。

２.音源とエフェクターについて

　以前私がCubaseを買った際、付属音源をいじって思ったのが「出したい音が全然でない」ということです。DAWソフトさえ買えばプロのような音は簡単に出せると思っていたんですよね。しかし、実際は様々なソフトウェアを別途で買う必要があるんですよね。下にEDMプロデューサーなら大体みんな持っているというものをリストアップし���みました。これも入るだろ！！と思う方もいるかもしれませんが、参考にしてみてください。

ですかね(忘れているやつがあるかもしれません)。

　初心者の方は横文字ばっかりで意味わからない！となるかもしれませんが、DTMをやっているうちに、この辺りの製品は有名どころで是非持っておきたい！と思うようになるでしょう。もちろんどれもそこそこいい値段しますし、私も全てを持っているわけではありません。お金の心配はあまりせずに、お金を貯めて、欲しくなったら時々買うという程度が良いと思います。それから、初心者の方がプラグインを爆買いするのは勧めません。理由としては、万一挫折した時に勿体無い、多いとわけわからなくて混乱する、プラグインの良さは少しずつ買っていかないとわからない、道具より技術を先に身につけるべき、などが挙げられます。とにかく、初心者の方はDAWだけ買って使い方になれるということを優先してください。なので今回ここでちまちまとプラグインの解説を永遠にやるということはしません(しはじめたら止まらないですし)。

 3. その他必要なもの

　まずは高スペックPCでしょうね。EDMでは沢山のトラックをレイヤー(重ねる)必要があるので低スペックだとDAWがすぐに落ちる、フリーズする、音が出ない、ノイズが入るなど様々不具合が発生します。結構イライラして作業に余計な時間がかかるので少し高いな、と思っても良いパソコンをお勧めします。

　次に、midiキーボードですが、これはあったほうがいいという程度で、必ずしもなければいけないというほどではないです。まああったほうが作業の効率がよくなります。EDMの有名プロデューサーが必ずしも高いmidiキーボードを使っているのかというと、そうでもないようです。　

　個人的にあったほうがいいんじゃないかなーと思うのはモニタースピーカーとオーディオインターフェース。モニタースピーカーはヘッドホンでは圧倒的に掴みにくい空間処理、EDMで非常に重要になる低域処理には必須です。EDM界で人気なのはKRK Rokit、Yamaha HSシリーズ、GENELECでしょう。オーディオインターフェースはあると様々な機器の接続が楽ですし、音もPCに直接イヤホンをぶっ刺すよりよくなります。

　最後にイヤホン、ヘッドホンですが私は市販の安いイヤホンで作ることが多いです。ただよく言われる話、市販のイヤホンはより良い音にするために例えば低音が強めになっているなど、そのままの音を出力してくれる訳ではありません。なのでそのようなイヤホンでミックスをすると良いミックスにならないというのがあります。それを防ぐために音をそのまま出力するモニターヘッドホンというものがあります。余裕のある方は買ってもいいかなー、という感じです。ちなみに、Gareth Emeryは基本的にAppleの純正イヤホンで曲を作るそうです。というのも、多くの人が曲を聴く時何で聴くかといったら、このイヤホンで聞くだろうから、それに合わせてこのイヤホンを使っているとのことだそうです。

それでは、前置きはこの辺にして、EDMの作り方の大枠を説明させていただきます。

4. EDMの作り方

　EDMといってもビッグルーム、トランス、ダブステップ、ハウス、フューチャーハウス、ハードスタイルなんていろいろありますよね。今回はビッグルーム、トランスなどに合わせた説明をしていきます。音楽の作り方に正解はありませんが、一定の指針があるんですよね。

4-1. 構成

　基本的に構成は市販の楽曲を真似しましょう。というのも、どの曲も同じ構成ではなく、ある程度のバリエーションがあります。曲は沢山聞いたほうがいいです。作りたいジャンルの曲を100曲程度しか知らないという状況でそのジャンルの曲を作るというのはなかなか困難です。沢山聞いていると感覚的にこの部分はこう作るのだな、という鉄則が見えてきます。EDMは絶対に8小節か4小節ごとに進みます。4つ打ちというワードがあるのでわかると思いますが。構成がわからない方は1,2,3,4…という風に数えて各パート(JPopでいうとAメロ、Bメロなど)が何小節ずつになっているか数えてみてください。構成はそれを真似すればいいだけです。なので、それがわかっていれば128bpmのビッグルームのドロップは基本的に30秒ぴったりが鉄則で、Deadmau5の楽曲のように1分半あるということはあり得ないというのがわかって頂けると思います。

4-2. メロディー

　これも大事なんですけどね…自分は感覚に頼っているので音楽理論についてはよくわかりません。理論についてはYoutubeや書籍で学ぶことができます。コード進行もEDMでは基本的なパターンがいくつかあります。それを真似すれば形にはなります。メロディーは楽器がある程度弾ける方はそっちで作ったほうがいいかもしれません(私はほとんど弾けませんが)。頭の中で考えるより弾いたほうが断然良いアイディアが出てきます。

4-3. 楽器のパート

　EDMってどんな楽器構成をしてるのかは曲を聞くのが一番ですが、参考程度に紹介しておきます。まずリードですね。リードとは図太いシンセなどで鳴らされる主旋律のことです。次にベース、キック。ベースは低音域です。ライブに行くと響いてくるやつですね。キックとはバスドラムのこと。ビッグルームのドロップでドンドンいうやつ。パッドっていうのもあります。これはストリングスのような優しい音でコードを弾くというやつですね。あとはパーカスとFX。パーカスはパーカッションのこと、FXは効果音のこと(例えばEDMだとスーっていう音とかいきなりドーンとくる音ありますよね)。

4-4. サンプル

　サンプルってなんだ？と思う方いると思いますが、サンプルはEDMでは不可欠。上記のFXとか���ーカスとかキックとかは作ることもできますが、サンプルから出来合いのものを持ってくることが多いです。理由としてはプロの作ったクオリティーの高い音を使えるということが挙げられます。他人の作った音なんてセコくね？と思われる方いらっしゃると思いますが、EDMの著名プロデューサーで使っていない人はいません。ちなみに市販のものもありますが、お勧めはSpliceというサービス。月7.99ドルで100サンプルまでダウンロードできます。人気なのはKSHMRのサンプルパックですかね。プロの楽曲を聴いても、この音はKSHMRのサンプルパックから取ってきたんだな、とわかるものは沢山あります。他にもNicky Romero, Sam Feldt, Deniz Koyu, Virtual Riot, Mark Knight, Deadmau5, Henry Fongなど人気プロデューサーのサンプルパックを数多く取り揃えています。

4-5. 作成の手順

(各プラグインの説明は省きます。そこまではできない…)

　あくまで自分の手順です。この内容は難易度が高いと思います。説明がかなり難しいというのと、簡単な説明だと逆に意味をなさないので…ただわからなくても読んで頂けると嬉しいです。

　まず、これが正解なわけではないですが、自分はドロップ(ポップスでいうサビの部分)から作ります。理由としては、一番音量の大きいドロップの枠組みができた時点でマスタリングチェイン(楽曲の最後の仕上げを行うプラグイン)をマスターに突っ込み、ミックスを再調整して、良い感じにしておきたいからです。リスナーはマスタリングされた後の音を聞くわけですから、ミックス時に既にマスタリングチェインが突っ込まれた状態で最適なミックスをしておきたいのです。音圧が上がらないだのマキシマイザー(音圧を上げてくれるプラグイン)を突っ込んだら音が型崩れした、ということも防げます。最初に枠組みができた時点でその作業をしておけば音量等を大幅に変えることも可能ですし、マスタリングされた時の音に近い状態でミックスできますので、最後になって全然ダメだ、ということはないでしょう。そうするとドロップ以外の音が崩れないか？と思う方もいらっしゃるかと思いますが、案外そんなことはないです。ちなみに私はこの時点でマスターにOTTをさします。OTTはフリーのマルチバンドコンプレッサーで、挿すと透き通った綺麗な高音が出るのですが、音が変形しやすいのがネック。Deadmau5もマスターにOTTをさしているので私はこれは間違いではないと信じています。

　さて、だいぶ脱線してしまいましたが、今回はドロップに特化して説明しましょう。基本的に、EQとコンプレッサーは挿します。基本的なことではありますが、EQはより綺麗なミックスを目指したり音の棲み分けをするのには大事です。コンプレッサーはオーバーコンプレッションをしすぎないように。

　最初にキックを置きましょう。キックは非常に大事です。キック一つが違うだけで曲の雰囲気がかなり変わります。次にリードを沢山レイヤーさせましょう。レイヤーすると音色が違いすぎてうまくいかない、というのが初心者の悩みらしいですが、基本的に核となるシンセを2つくらい大きな音量で敷いて、それ以外は小さな音量で補助的にレイヤーさせてみるとうまくいくかも。全部のシンセを同一のオクターブで弾かせるより、2つか3つのオクターブで弾かせた方が良いです。この時に、ステレオエンハンサー(左右感を広げるプラグイン)で音を広げましょう。やはりシンセの音そのままだと聞こえる音の幅が狭いです。ただ、広げすぎもダメです。これは感覚的な話になりますが、モニタースピーカーを使って確認しながら音の広がりを調整するといい感じになります。ステレオエンハンサーはiZotope Imager(フリー)が良いです。リードの低音は切りましょう。これは棲み分けのためです。ディレイは基本的に各シンセ付属のもの、リバーブ(反響音)はValhalla VintageやRoomのような強いものをかけられると良いでしょう。リバーブのサイドチェインやオートメーションなどといった技法もありますが、難しいので割愛します。

　次にベースです。サブベース(ベースの中でも特に低音)は大事です。これもスピーカーでキックと聞き比べながら調整するのが良いでしょう。大きすぎると高音域を圧迫するし、小さすぎても意味を成さないので難しい。音をモノラルにするのも大事です。それ以外のベースはブリブリいうやつとかを入れましょう。サイドチェイン(説明が難しいので割愛)も忘れずに。あとはiZotope Trash 2とかSausage Fattenerみたいなディストーション(音を歪ませる)も忘れずに。

　これだけだと足りないんですよね。パーカッションは市販の楽曲通りに打ち込みましょう。多分基本的なリズムパターンは打ち込めると思います。めんどくさい方はSpliceに頼っちゃいましょう。それから、コードとかアルペジオも案外大事です。曲の足りないところを埋め合わせてくれるんですよね。リードとベースだけだとやはり何かが足りないんですよね。

　だいたい上記のことをやれば形にはなります。一番大事なのはとにかくやってみることと、市販の楽曲の真似をすることです。最初はうまくいかなくても試行錯誤するうちに上手になります。市販の楽曲はお手本です。リファレンスソングと言います。これに近づけるように作るのが鉄則。というのも、そのような曲たちは、世界的に有名で経験豊富なプロが作っているからです。初心者の方は、こんなプロみたいな曲作れないよ…と思うかもしれませんが、みんなはじめはそうです。徐々にうまくなるので、諦めないことが大事です。

　また、Youtubeではプロが楽曲制作について解説する動画が山ほどあります。下にいくつか貼っておきます。これらを見て、奪える技術は奪いましょう。何度も言いますが、真似することが上達のためには一番です。

　ここまでを簡単に要約をすると、リードとベースを沢山のシンセで弾かせ、和音なども入れてみましょう。キックとその他パーカッションや効果音を加えると大体の形になります、ということです。

５. まとめ

　市販の楽曲をとにかく真似すること、曲を沢山聞いて分析し、自分の曲に生かすこと、難しくても諦めないこと、やれば次第にうまくなる、youtubeでプロの動画をいろいろ見て技術を奪うこと、私が言いたいことはそのくらいです。
