. . . her car, fur coats, credit cards, her husky little girl’s voice that always sounded as if she had just stopped crying, and her huge eyes somebody described as being the colour of twice-frozen Hershey bars, Edie had, as Warhol wrote, ‘a poignantly vacant, vulnerable quality that made her a reflection of everybody’s private fantasies. Edie could be anything you wanted her to be . . . She was a wonderful, beautiful blank.’ ‘Vulnerability exuded from every pore of her skin,’ noted another new friend of Andy’s, Isabelle Collin-Dufresne, who would become Warhol’s superstar Ultra Violet. ‘Like a precocious preppie puppet, she rocked and rolled unconsciously to the sound of a radio station inside her head. She was always high. Andy liked high people.’

Andy Warhol

One of the canvases is vibrant and bursting with energy, representing the star’s flamboyant public personality. The other is monochrome and sombre, the uneven application of ink causing her face slowly to disappear. The two contrasting sides of this work capture the contrast between Marilyn’s artificial public persona on the left and the harsh reality of her troubled private life on the right.

“Warhol loved gossip. He spent hours on the phone every day keeping up with the scene, and he naturally populated his world with men and women who shared his taste. Quite a few of these later produced memoirs: Gerard Malanga, who was Warhol’s principal assistant from 1963 to 1970; John Giorno, the star of Warhol’s first film, “Sleep” (1963); Mary Woronov, who performed with the Velvet Underground and acted in some of the films; and the so-called superstars Janet Susan Mary Hoffman (a.k.a. Viva) and Isabelle Collin Dufresne (a.k.a. Ultra Violet). Other Factory figures—notably Billy Linich (a.k.a. Billy Name), who was the de-facto chief of operations at the Factory; Brigid Berlin, a Fifth Avenue heiress and connoisseur of amphetamines; and the underground movie actor Taylor Mead—were interviewed repeatedly over the years”.

Изабель Коллин Дюфрен (фр. Isabelle Collin Dufresne; 6 сентября 1935, Ла-Тронш, Рона — Альпы, Франция — 14 июня 2014, Нью-Йорк, сценическое имя Ультрафиолет (Ultra Violet)) — франко-американская актриса, писательница, художница, бывшая коллега и суперзвездаЭнди Уорхолa.

Родилась 6 сентября 1935 году в Ла-Тронш, Франция. В 1951 году переехала в Нью-Йорк, где познакомилась с Сальвадором Дали. Дюфрен быстро стала его музой, а затем и ученицей и, в итоге, самостоятельной художницей.

В 1960-х годах она заявила о себе на прогрессивной американской арт-сцене, наряду с Джаспером Джонсом, Робертом Раушенбергом и Джеймсом Розенквистом. В 1964 году заключила контракт с Энди Уорхолом и его нью-йорской студией "The Factory". Выбрала себе сценический псевдоним Ультрафиолет, воспользовавшись предложенным вариантом Уорхола.
