Happy poetry month! In the spirit of the month, what's your favourite poem? I'm not an avid poetry reader but mine is We Only Want the Earth.

Hmmm as for favorite poem, there's a few I throw out as my top poem with frequency, but here I've got to say The Bridge by C. Dale Young. I just adore its positivity and the way it isn't afraid to be in love with the small details of life. That's just a feeling I relate with so much in my life and the whole poem is SUCH a vibe. Think I called it my idea of the world's greatest love poem in an essay once (which is def A Claim which idk if I'd fully back up now but the vibes are there) because it isn't just a poem about being in love with someone, it's loving everything they do and everything around you and loving just the world as a whole and how you see it everyday. it’s so important to let go of what you’re “supposed” to do and just do what actually works for you

#this is specifically about how I've read so many books this year already #because I decided I'd just constantly have at least 1 ideally 2 audiobooks checked out of the library #boom I'm actually reading all the time now #it's also about turning my 'produce' drawers into a deli drawer and a canned water drawer #because if my fruits and vegetables are visible I eat them before they rot #and I don't generally forget about water & deli meats/cheeses #also I know the drawers are allegedly supposed to keep produce fresh #but I have the most landlord special fridge I don't think it did jack shit

i've been trying 2 think how 2 phrase this post bc like. audioboooks are great both for people who can only take in books that way AND for people in situations where they need their eyes and/or hands for something else, and i absolutely don't want to knock them (not to mention that like. a really compelling audiobook reader brings their own charisma and tonal palette to the project and elevates it)

but also i've been listening to lotr in one (1) ear as i bike (bc like. i do think it's an important safety consideration to have one ear available to alert me to passing traffic etc) and like. frodo and sam and pippin JUST made it to buckland. this is literally hours of bicycling time we're talking about at this point. if i'd been gulping down the text with my eyeballs i could have finished the book if not the whole trilogy by now!

#like genuinely no shade to audiobooks‚ they are providing me with Book in situations where No Book Ever Booked Before #but you really are stuck with the narrator's pace in a way that's like. by comparison with eyeball reading this is water torture #anyway you really do i think just have to embrace that it is in fact a slightly different art form. and like. that's great! i love that!#but like. idk. literally i saw a post recently that was like. about Writing 4 Audio Performance #and it made what i thought were very correct points abt like. the order in which it's good to lay things out for hearers #but it's like. literally this is simplifying writing. like the kind of writing that i do and love is honestly quite hard to keep in yr head #bc it really requires you to stack a lot of complexity and like. keep it unresolved for a hot sec and then sew it together at the end #and like. that's terrible in an out-loud context!#so like. idk. i think text is great and i think audiobooks are great #and i think the weird pressure to like. not acknowledge they're different in any meaningful ways is. bad actually.#anyway this has kind of snowballed into more of a Position Post than i'd meant to be making #i just think it's funny that the hobbits have made. so fucking little progress. snail baggins = snaggins.#bookblogging #journaling

I've only got one more of Chris's audiobooks (Struck by Lightning) to listen to on my drive to work. I'm really going to miss his voice.

#chris colfer #he's really a talented voice actor #and he makes his stories come alive #it's delightful #i can only listen to audiobooks/podcasts when i'm driving #i have plenty of other books to listen to #the hobbit and the lord of the ring trilogy #read by andy serkus is next #followed by jonathan strange and mr norrell #which i tried reading and enjoyed but i got bogged down #and aristotle and dante dive into the waters of the universe #hopefully driving out to yellowstone in a month #but i'm already planning on binging on orphan black: the next chapter then #always a case of #too many books and not enough time
