Read the full call to action here.
Tomorrow, November 29th, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the #BDS movement is calling for an all day social media storm. Our physical and digital actions can be used together to strengthen our demands: Permanent ceasefire and lifting the siege to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Lawful sanctions on Israel, including a #MilitaryEmbargo. Pressure on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. Click here for prepared messages and images to use for the social media storm. Over the last 7 weeks, millions of you have taken to the streets for the largest protests the world has seen in the last 20 years! We are grateful to each one of you who, through your voices and creative actions, have built up unprecedented grassroots power to end Israel’s genocidal war against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza. Yet, Western governments are continuing to arm, fund and provide political cover for Israel’s genocide. We must act urgently to end all state, corporate and institutional complicity with Israel’s genocidal apartheid regime. Palestinian lives and livelihoods literally depend on it. To this end, and as time has shown, BDS is the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle. Tomorrow, we call for escalating worldwide peaceful mobilizations and expressions of meaningful solidarity to stop the genocide including: 1. Whenever feasible, organizing peaceful disruptions, sit-ins, occupations, etc. targeting  policymakers, as well as the corporate enablers of genocide and apartheid (arms manufacturers, investment firms), and institutions (media, universities, cultural spaces, etc.). 2. Disrupting the transport of weapons, or weapon parts, to Israel, including in transit states, by supporting trade unions refusing to handle such shipments, as has been done in Belgium, US, and the Spanish State, and as expressed by trade unions in India, Turkey, Italy and Greece.  3. Pressuring parliaments and governments to cancel existing military contracts and agreements with Israel, as Colombia’s president publicly espoused, and as demanded by the BDS movement in Brazil, a demand supported by civil society and more than 60 parliamentarians in the country. 4. Intensifying all strategic economic boycott and divestment campaigns against complicit corporations, and escalating campaigns to cut all ties to apartheid Israel and its complicit academic and cultural institutions as well as sports teams. Mobilizing your community, trade union, association, church, social network, student government/union, city council, cultural center, or other organization to declare itself an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ) on November 29th, if it hasn’t already, and organize a solidarity event or action on November 29th. 5. Pressuring your elected officials, where relevant, through direct communication or collective direct action, to demand real pressure on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to urgently prosecute Netanyahu and all other Israeli officials responsible for genocide, apartheid, and war crimes. If not now, when? In solidarity, The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC)

20 Best Android Apps to Watch Live Sports for Free
Afghanistan, then again, will expectation recoup from the drubbing they got against England in their past game, a match they lost by 150 runs. Star spinner yielded a staggering 110 keeps running in his 9 overs, including being hit for 11 sixes, a large portion of them by English captain Eoin Morgan, who scored 148 keeps running at more than two runs a ball. Afghanistan are the main group with no focuses on the board in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 up until this point and they should truly lift their game in the event that they would like to change that against Virat Kohli's men dressed in blue.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will continue for a month-and-a-half as every one of the 10 groups — Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and West Indies being the other eight — playing each other to decide the victors. Indeed, not actually. The best four will continue to the semi-finals and you know how it goes at that point. On the off chance that you aren't fortunate enough to be in England, you'll be likely be checking out the Pakistan versus West Indies game and the remainder of the Cricket World Cup 2019 from the front room love seat — or at the workplace. We aren't here to pass judgment.

JAMMU, June 21: The 2-year boycott forced on Jammu and Kashmir youthful paceman Rasikh Salam by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will serve an eye opener for every single such variation in games in the State as no one will attempt to submit such (age-fudging) botch in future.
Rasikh's profession may have gone to a granulating end because of distortion of his introduction to the world  date, yet he is fortunate to escape with just a two-year suspension for the offense as the BCCI has chosen not to seek after any criminal case and simply restricted the adolescent for a time of two years.
Tumblr media
Something else, the Supreme Court-selected Committee of Administrators (CoA) had talked about during its gathering prior on May 18, 2018, the issue of age-extortion in cricket. Two choices with respect to age-extortion were taken-One, the players who are found (after an appropriate enquiry) to have submitted false/altered birth declarations will be restricted from all BCCI competitions for two seasons-Second, the BCCI may likewise start criminal activity against the concerned player as well as some other individual in charge of submitting false/altered birth testaments.
We are not going to seek after any criminal body of evidence against Salam. The standard is very certain that anybody messing with 'date-of-birth' or 'spot of-issue' will be prohibited for a time of two years. The CoA had examined 'age confirmation' in the gathering yet BCCI felt that for this situation there was no compelling reason to record a criminal grumbling," BCCI General Manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim had said.

Power in Sports
Sport has the unique power to change the life of any individual, the lives of their family members and the ability to positively impact the world. It also can give hope to all the fans. Just look how Leister city defied all odds to lift the premier league trophy in 2015-2016 (The Conversation, 2016), or how Chicago Cubs ended their 108-year drought to win the world series in 2016 (Walker, 2020). Even back in 2009 when people hardly knew that the Netherlands even played cricket, they managed to beat the ‘cricket-makers’ England in 2009 World T-20 (Sengupta, 2016). Sports can light the feeling of national pride in the hearts of the entire population of a country with a world cup win or with their athlete winning a gold medal at an Olympic event.
Sport can be one of the single most unifying forces in the world. Therefore, with all the challenges and issues currently faced by society, it is timely and necessary for us to wake up to the massive power for good that sports can provide to us individually, or on a broader scale through the community, society, and the world. Let’s discuss what power sports hold on various societal issues.
Sports and Economy
It's a well-known fact that sports represent a billion-dollar industry. The other thing to realise is that sports can have tremendous positive impacts on the local economy. Studies on several local sports events show that they have the capacity to attract large numbers of people, initially from the local and surrounding areas where sports events take place and progressively, from further away. For instance, in 2014, the New York City marathon generated a record $415 million for New York City, significantly boosting tourism, tax revenues, and the economy (NYRR, n.d.).
Sports and Gender
Sport is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Great progress has been made in promoting gender equality in terms of balancing the total number of athletes participating at the Games, offering leadership development, advocacy and awareness campaigns, and more recently appointing more women to leadership roles within the administration and governance. But even after this progress, there is a lot that remains to be achieved. The problem is the showcased reality vs the actual reality.one of the most obvious gap is in the pay scale of the genders. An example being US men’s soccer team $9 million after finishing 11th in the 2014 world cup, whereas the 2015 world champions women’s soccer team received $2 million (Uplifter, n.d.). So where the world is talking about equality, sports has to push harder and lead with an example.
Sports and Race
Racial discrimination is the biggest demons of society that has been making the world a hollow place. While at one side, a large population is protesting in support of BLM, another unfortunate event took place as Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by a black officer (Sanchez, 2020). Sports personalities around the world have shown support for BLM movement with BLM featuring on jerseys of athletes playing basketball, soccer, and cricket to name a few. We keep hearing that all good things take time, but now is the time to say enough. A week ago, NBA postponed three of their games on Wednesday following the Milwaukee Bucks decision to boycott Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake (Sadler, 2020). Sports is where all athletes perform together regardless of their colour and entertain the world. And now it is time for these personalities to take a stance against this injustice so that the world around takes a note of it.

Omar al-Bashir: Sudan military coup topples ruler after protests
Tumblr media
After nearly 30 years in power, Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir has been ousted and arrested, the defence minister says. Speaking on state TV, Awad Ibn Ouf said the army had decided to oversee a two-year transitional period followed by elections. He also said a three-month state of emergency was being put in place. Protests against Mr Bashir, who has governed Sudan since 1989, have been under way for several months. Meanwhile, the main group that has been organising the demonstrations called for them to continue on Thursday, despite the military intervention. "I announce as minister of defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its chief in a secure place," Mr Ibn Ouf said in a statement. It is not clear where Mr Bashir is being held. Mr Ibn Ouf said the country had been suffering from "poor management, corruption, and an absence of justice" and he apologised "for the killing and violence that took place". He said Sudan's constitution was being suspended, border crossings were being shut until further notice and airspace was being closed for 24 hours. As the news broke, crowds of protesters celebrated outside army headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, embracing soldiers and climbing on top of armoured vehicles. Sudan's intelligence service said it was freeing all political prisoners, state-run Suna news agency reported. Mr Bashir is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which accuses him of organising war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan's western Darfur region. However it is not clear what will happen to him following his arrest.
How did events unfold?
In the early hours of Thursday, military vehicles were seen entering the large compound in Khartoum that houses the defence ministry, the army headquarters and Mr Bashir's personal residence, AFP news agency reported. State TV and radio later interrupted their programming with a message that the army would be making a statement. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of demonstrators marched through central Khartoum, some chanting "It has fallen, we won".
Will this end the protests?
In a strongly worded statement, the main organisation behind the demonstrations, the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), said the military had announced a "coup" that would reproduce the same "faces and institutions that our great people revolted against". It urged people to continue the sit-in outside the military headquarters in Khartoum and to stay on the streets of cities across the country. "Those who destroyed the country and killed the people are seeking to steal every drop of blood and sweat that the Sudanese people poured in their revolution that the shook the throne of tyranny," the statement read.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The SPA has previously said that any transitional administration must not include anyone from what it called the "tyrannical regime". The protests were originally sparked by a rise in the cost of living, but demonstrators then began calling for the president to resign and his government to go. Omar el-Digeir, a senior protest member, told AFP news agency last week that the group was seeking a path "that represents the wish of the revolution". Police had ordered officers not to intervene against the protests, but the government was criticised by rights groups for a heavy-handed response to the unrest. Government officials say 38 people have died since the unrest began in December, but the pressure group Human Rights Watch said the number was higher. In February, it looked as though the president might step down at that point, but instead Mr Bashir declared a state of national emergency Formerly an army officer, he seized power in a military coup in 1989. His rule has been marked by civil war. The civil conflict with the south of the country ended in 2005 and South Sudan became independent in 2011. Another civil conflict has been taking place in the western region of Darfur. Mr Bashir is accused of organising war crimes and crimes against humanity there by the ICC. Who is Omar al-Bashir? Despite an international arrest warrant issued by the ICC, he won consecutive elections in 2010 and 2015. However, his last victory was marred by a boycott by the main opposition parties. The arrest warrant has led to an international travel ban. However, Mr Bashir has made diplomatic visits to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. He was forced into a hasty departure from South Africa in June 2015 as a court there considered whether to enforce the arrest warrant. Read the full article

The Dilemma - Should India play Pakistan at the 2019 World Cup ?
What is the significance of the date 14th of February?
Ask this question to any teenager and the answer is going to be extremely obvious – Valentine’s day; a day cherished worldwide as the day of love.
While there was quite a buzz around this date (there always is ) 14th February 2019 in India was by no means celebrated. It was one of the darkest days for modern India as over 40 Indian soldiers were martyred in the now well publicized Pulwama attacks.
Tumblr media
The events that have followed since have been nothing short of remarkable and by politically isolating Pakistan India have really cornered Pakistan in a spot of bother. While this was certainly having the desired choking effect on the Pakistan officials and media it was by no means as satisfying as the non-military strike Indian Air Force carried out beyond the LoC in PoK and Balakot.
Kudos to the Indian officials for executing this mission successfully!
The unprecedented and unprovoked attacks in Pulwama have no doubt unified India as never before. But even in these extreme circumstances there are bound to be disagreements and differences in opinions.
Consider for example the Indo-Pak cricket world cup match to be played in June this year.
We have had many acts of virtual patriotism, social media-posts, social experts suggesting various measures to show our support towards our military one of them being boycotting the colossal upcoming clash against Pakistan.
Here is the question put bluntly – Should India play against Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019?
This question actually led to quite a heated debate amongst our friend circle. So, we decided to put this to paper (virtually) in the form of a debate i.e. in favor of playing and against playing the match.
Opinion 1- Excerpt from the person in favor of playing the match:
My opinion here says that India should opt to play, and in the process if we manage to win, this may be the best tribute to the country and her martyrs.
Tumblr media
Not playing Pakistan would not only mean a loss of 2 points, but also a virtual victory to Pakistan.
Whereas a loss of 2 points could hamper India’s progress to the knockouts, but conceding a virtual victory to Pakistan in itself seems unacceptable to the Indian mindset. Additionally, these vital 2 points may help Pakistan advance to the knockouts, where the possibility of an India-Pakistan tie cannot be denied.
(God knows what, it may turn out to be a India-Pakistan world cup final!)
Coming to the point, I personally feel that this boycott will not have much of an impact on the world’s perspective of Pakistan, Pakistan cricket and neither Pakistan as a county.
Instance 1: Even after the terrorist attacks on Sri-Lankan Team in Pakistan, Pakistan still continue to conduct bilateral series in their rented home and cricketing nations too tend to visit and play them.
Instance 2: After the 26/11 attacks, India have refrained from playing bilateral series with Pakistan and not including Pakistan player in the IPL. Did that achieve anything for us??. Maybe some pride and no money to Pakistan players from India. But has that affected Pakistan or the Pakistan cricket team.
I feel NO.
Pakistan jugad to counter the boycott from India : They conduct PSL in front of an empty ground, other major leagues around the world have a high demand for Pakistani players and there you go. No impact on Pakistan cricket team.
Also, the concerned authorities of Pakistan (Pakistan Government/ Pakistani Forces, God knows) continue to feed the terrorist organizations (for their own benefits maybe), the attacks go on and happen periodically and again the Pakistan forces deny any support to the terrorist organizations and them being aware of any terrorist organizations in their country. This is becoming a f**** cycle.
So, if we need to really make the Pakistanis pay, it has to be on some different front(field).
We did play against Pakistan in the 1999 world cup, where the memories of the Kargil war were still afresh, and by defeating Pakistan, we, in my opinion paid a big tribute to our martyrs.
Tumblr media
Also, as we cannot deny the fact that there may be an India-Pakistan final, what then?
Do we not play that too?
Do we forfeit??
Will this be a lesson for Pakistan????
No, No and No. This would be even worse than surrendering on a battlefield, as per my opinion. So, I go with the firm opinion that if we are participating in the tournament, then we play whoever we have to.
If we really want to express our condolences, patriotism in the form of a cricketing boycott, we don’t participate in the tournament at all…..
Opinion 2- Excerpt from the person against playing the match:
I am of the opinion that India should not play Pakistan in the upcoming ICC world cup event on the basis of a simple premise: Some things are more important than cricket.
Tumblr media
While no-one would enjoy an Indian victory over Pakistan if the clash did happen, I am staunchly against this tie taking place in the first place.
As stated earlier as well, since the Pulwama attacks the Indian government has taken strong steps to politically isolate Pakistan from the rest of the world. When the world is looking up to India for leading the motion against a nation known to harbor terrorists, I feel it is imperative that leaders world wide see that India keep true to their word of maintaining absolutely no relationship with their neighboring country.
Imagine the statement India can make here by boycotting the Pakistan clash – A nation obsessed with cricket where statements like ‘Cricket is a religion, Sachin is the God’ feel nowhere like an exaggeration decides to boycott a World Cup clash by sacrificing 2 points of their group clash to stay true in their purpose of war against terrorism.
As for the question of – what if India face Pakistan in a knock out? I think the bigger the stakes are for the match the stronger statement we make. It would be utterly unfortunate and almost cruel on the Indian cricket team but as I said earlier – Some things are more important than cricket.
We could end up handing a world cup to our enemy nation and though it would be very difficult to digest & the Pakistan media could be all over their players but the world would know that this victory was of no significance as they did not compete against one of the favorites of the tournament who have gotten the better of Pakistan on all but one occasions in ICC events.
Tumblr media
Even from an emotional perspective, where the nation is still mourning the 42 CRPF jawans from Pulwama how big a blow would it be for the morale our armed forces if we are seen ‘playing’ a cricket match against a nation whose actions have cost them the lives of their fellow brothers and orphaned so many children?
We could avoid this by not playing the match. In fact, by not playing we as a nation could back our ‘Jawans’ on the border and support them by just letting them know that we understand the sacrifices they make for the nation and they are not alone in their battles, their sacrifices are not in vain and that the nation is with them.
As for the calls from Pakistan to avoid mixing sports and politics here is my view:
There is an anger, a frustration amongst the Indians because of the support Pakistan provides to terrorist activities and the losses it is causing the Indians in terms of our courageous army personnel. The nation is ready to battle as one against whatever stands in its way and for the first time in a long time it does not feel like ‘politics’ to me. This is way beyond politics. This is the public sentiment or consensus and I believe respecting this cannot not be termed as politics.
Tumblr media
And besides sports are the best way to compete against one another to find out the better player/team all the while maintaining friendly/sporting relations with our competitor. What we have with Pakistan is nowhere close to friendly.
Potentially sacrificing a world cup seems rather insignificant to me when compared to what our soldiers undergo for the nation or for that matter what the war against terrorism means to us. On that note I rest my case.
While the debate rages on in our group locally, it seems that the ICC, BCCI and the Indian government have reached an impasse over the decision to play/not play Pakistan in the world cup, but we can be sure of one thing: This debate will continue till the match day maybe even beyond!
What is your opinion ? Should India play Pakistan in the world cup or should they not.
Let us know your views through the comments. We would love hearing some more neutral opinions and views on this matter!

Sunil said that Why can't beat Pakistan team & guarantee they don’t qualify
Tumblr media
Sunil Gavaskar similarly insists Imran Khan to take the essential “initial move” towards improving ties with India. Report picture of India wicket-keeper in force MS Dhoni against Pakistan. India stay to lose by boycotting Pakistan in the exceptional World Cup, feels past captain Sunil Gavaskar, who said the country can continue to “insult them” by maintaining a strategic distance from two-sided ties. Driven by past India spinner Harbhajan Singh, requires an absolute cricketing boycott against Pakistan has created as far back as the dread strike in Pulwama seven days prior murdered more than 40 CRPF employees. India planned to play Pakistan on June 16 in the midst of the World Cup. “Who wins if India rules against playing Pakistan in the World Cup? Moreover, I am not despite talking about the semis and the finals. Who wins? Pakistan win since they get two points,” Gavaskar told ‘India Today’. “India has so far beaten Pakistan each time in a World Cup, so we are really yielding two when by beating Pakistan, we could ensure that they don’t progress in the challenge. “(Nevertheless), I am with the country, whatever the governing body picks, I am with it totally. If the country needs we shouldn’t play Pakistan, I am with them,” he included. The equal cricketing ties between the two countries have quite recently been suspended since 2012 and the group last played a full game plan in 2007. “Where does it harm Pakistan? It harms them when they don’t play a reciprocal arrangement against India. In a multi-gather event, India will lose by not playing them. The entire issue ought to be looked to some degree greater significance, I can comprehend feelings are running high. “Nevertheless, what happens when you don’t play them? I understand India are adequate side to qualify even in the wake of yielding those two anyway why not beat them and guarantee they don’t qualify,” contended Gavaskar. If the BCCI takes the issue to the ICC, as is being guessed, and searches for Pakistan’s ouster from event starting May 30 in England, it will undoubtedly lose, he said. “They can endeavor yet it won’t happen. Since the other part countries need to recognize that and I don’t see that event. I am not very without question an ICC gathering is the right exchange,” he said implying the February 27 to March 2 ICC conferences in Dubai. “Without question, we as a whole are absolutely down with what has happened, it is such a disaster yet I am not very without question this would work with the ICC. Alternate regions will say this is an inside issue between the two countries and they have to oversee it and exclude us.” Gavaskar asked Khan to take the vital “initial move” towards improving ties with India. “Allow me to talk explicitly to Imran Khan, someone who I have regarded so much, who I accept is a partner. Allow me to the state to Imran ‘when you expected control you said that it will be an innovative Pakistan’. “You said that ‘India should venture out Pakistan will make two strides’ however not as a lawmaker, as a normal sportsperson, I need to state to you that Pakistan is the one which should venture out. “You ensure there is no cross-periphery intrusion; you ensure that those in Pakistan who are making issues in India are given over, if not to India, by then to the UN. You make those two steps and you see the number of pleasing advances India will take,” he said. Like Indo-Pak cricketers, Gavaskar needs the all-inclusive community of the two countries to value welcoming relations. “I know various Indian and Pakistani cricketers are partners. You (Imran) are my sidekick, Wasim (Akram) is my buddy, Ramiz (Raja) is my partner, Shoaib (Akhtar) is my playmate. We have such a better than average time when we meet in India or outside and I think the all inclusive community of the two countries merit that extraordinary time. “So you adventure out. Allow the Brand-new (Naya) Pakistan to wander out you will see India making different steps. The respect and warmth that Imran gets in India is amazing. “He has put a lot of vitality in the country. He understands the Indian people better than some other Pakistan PM and I do believe that he is fit for making these steps,” said Gavaskar.

Amid the spiralling speculation, the CoA, comprising Chairman Vinod Rai and former women's captain Diana Edulji, will be meeting in Delhi on Friday to discuss the issue of multiple bodies claiming representation of Uttarakhand. ICC World Cup 2019: BCCI can't block Pakistan from competing, says Official
Tumblr media
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the BCCI have not prepared any note seeking a ban on Pakistan at the upcoming World Cup and even if such a move is made, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is bound to reject it.
The Pulwama terror attack, that claimed the lives of over 40 CRPF personnel, has escalated the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, the reverberations of which are also being felt in the sporting arena.
Already, Pakistani shooters couldn't make the World Cup in Delhi, starting Saturday, after not getting visas. And there is a demand for India to boycott its June 16 World Cup clash against the neighbours and the matter is likely to come up on the sidelines of the ICC meetings between February 27 to March 2 in Dubai.
"There is absolutely no constitutional or contractual way this could happen. the ICC constitution allows members the right to participate in ICC events as long as they've qualified," a BCCI official told PTI.
Amid the spiralling speculation, the CoA, comprising Chairman Vinod Rai and former women's captain Diana Edulji, will be meeting in Delhi on Friday to discuss the issue of multiple bodies claiming representation of Uttarakhand. But the Pakistan conundrum is likely to cast a shadow on what was to be a routine meet.
"We will discuss all possible options tomorrow and do what is best for the country," Edulji told PTI. Read More

Brexiteer Iain Duncan Smith says Tories could boycott EU elections
Brexiteer ringleader Iain Duncan Smith says EU elections must NOT happen and suggests Tories could BOYCOTT them as he urges the PM stand down in May after delaying Brexit
Iain Duncan Smith says that the fact we haven’t left the EU yet is a ‘disaster’ as he slammed party leadership
He called the upcoming EU elections ‘impossible to justify’ to British voters and sames some could boycott
Called for Brussels to scrap the Irish backstop and claimed that the block know that it would not work

Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith says local Conservative associations could boycott the EU elections if the UK is still a part of the bloc next month.
The Chingford and Woodford Green MP slammed the Conservative leadership for not following through on its promise to leave on March 29, calling it a ‘disaster’ for party support.
Mr Duncan Smith said the elections are ‘impossible to justify’. He ridiculed the notion of campaigning for the May 23 election while at the same time saying British MEPs won’t exist in a few months.
The Brexiteer has suggested this morning that Tories could stay at home amid opposition to the EU elections
He asked Sophy Ridge on Sky News: ‘What are you going to say on the doorstep? Vote for me and Ill be gone in three months?’
It follows Boris Johnson branding the elections ‘ridiculous’. After months of wrangling over how to prevent a hard border in Northern Ireland, Mr Duncan Smith said Brussels knows full well an Irish backstop cannot work and should be scrapped.
He suggested that Theresa May’s extending of the withdrawal process could kill off the Conservatives at the polls, saying ‘extension is death’ after the UK was given six more months to negotiate its exit.
It comes as polling puts Nigel Farage’s newly formed Brexit Party as having the third largest share of the vote, with Labour ahead of the Tories.
Jeremy Corbyn is pictured cycling through Islington, North London, today as Labour poll ahead of the Conservative Party
The Brexit Party is tipped to hold 15 per cent of EU Election voting intention share just days after its formation. If a general election was called now, ardently pro-Leave parties would be the country’s third largest political force with 14 per cent of the vote if a general election was held today.
An Electoral Calculus poll of polls, including 8,561 people spoken to between April 2 and 11, found that Labour would become the largest party in the Commons, winning 296 seats to the Conservatives’ 259 if a vote was held.
Change UK – a breakaway group of MPs who are campaigning for a second referendum – are polling at seven per cent.
Yesterday Farage whipped up hardline Eurosceptics into a frenzy today as he vowed his new Brexit Party would cause an earthquake among ‘the career political class’.
The arch-Leaver told a packed auditorium in Birmingham at the party’s first rally that ‘we are lions being led by donkeys’ as he tried to galvanise his supporters before expected European Parliament contests next month.
And the former Ukip leader, who has since turned his back on the party for ‘lacking good people’, tore into the government for its handling of Britain’s departure and also prominent Remainers for refusing to honour the referendum result.
He said: ‘I find myself standing here today in my sixth European election campaign.
‘I shouldn’t be here, you shouldn’t be here, this shouldn’t be happening, we should have left the European Union.
‘But I’m damned if after 25 years I’m going to roll over and let these politicians do this to us! So let’s fight back! Let’s fight back! We won’t stand for it! We won’t stand for it!’
Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage (right) holds up placards with party chairman Richard Tice (left) during the first public rally of their European Parliament election campaign in Birmingham
Supporters gather in a hall at the Birmingham ICC at 2pm today for the first rally event, after Farage visited the city’s Bullring Indoor Market
He also hit back at claims that Brexit has divided the nation and instead blamed fractures on the ‘political class’ who he claims are ignoring the 2016 vote.
To a chorus of deafening boos which Mr Farage said he ‘enjoyed’, he directly accused former deputy prime minister Sir Nick Clegg and ex-prime minister Tony Blair of refusing to respect the Leave result.
His explosive intervention comes a day after Jacob Rees-Mogg’s sister Annunziata, was the party’s first star MEP candidate – after she quit the Tories after 35 years.
European Parliament elections are likely to happen in the UK on May 23 after Theresa May secured an extension to Britain’s departure deadline until October 31.
