Things happening around Sir Sparklepuff were probably the funniest part of the season, I SWEAR HIM DANCING TO THE JAZZ MUSIC SCENE? ICONIC.
Or when he first screeched BLOOD OF CHILD out of random? (Which wasn't that random in the end)
Me and my friend with whom I watched entire 5th season yesternight were literally crying out of laughter when Aaravos came and went like "You know what Viren? It's communism time, it's our child now"

Well. Okay. I suppose I’m glad that TDP, or at least TDP’s marketing team, finally recognizes that Aaravos and Viren’s relationship is the most compelling part of the show — things were looking pretty bleak there for a while. Also it’s pretty cool that they took their time making this season instead of rushing out something as messy as the last one, even just from the standpoint of promoting a healthier workplace (yeah, remember that controversy?). I really wish I had an ounce of faith left in the writers, though, because with their track record an entire season/phase* devoted to the “Mystery of Aaravos” will probably just end up having a higher volume of shit that annoys me than usual. In fact, that subtitle leads me to believe that they decided they just want to get aaaall the Aaravos-related stuff they built up out of the way in one production cycle so they can move on to the shiny new stories they actually want to tell in this universe. Dude is almost certainly gonna get a big Disney villain perma-death within three books, so like. look forward to that, I guess.
*The phase/book/season thing is confusing af, but I think the gist of it is that “The Dragon Prince” was the first three books (which only had 27 25-minute episodes cumulatively, so functionally and probably production-wise constituted one “season” of television), whereas this three-book cycle will be “Mystery of Aaravos” (no “The” for some reason. it’s fine. it doesn’t matter). I suspect the seventh and final book will be as long as a normal TV season, and I also suspect that they did not plan a lot or any of this from the start. It’s weird that this is still being called “The Dragon Prince Saga” when “The Dragon Prince” was apparently only the first phase — couldn’t they rebrand the franchise as “Tales of Xadia” or something? It’s not like “The Dragon Prince” is that great for SEO or marketing, considering how it intersects with other generic fantasy titles.

Can we just talk about the AMAZING artists in the tdp community? I'm a hard viravos shipper and no matter what it is, nsfw or fluff - the art is beautiful. I've seen my fare share of other ships or even just the characters, and the fan art is spectacular. Part of the reason I love tdp so much are the wonderful creaters in the community, everyone is the fandom is so talented and kind.

Battle Ships Round 1 Results
Here are the results from the first round, which, for the most part, are not very surprising.

PARTICIPATION
I was pleasantly surprised to receive 114 votes. Thanks to everyone who voted!
One important difference between Rarepair Rumble and Battle Ships is that the majority of votes in RPR came from Reddit, while in Battle Ships it's tumblr. My theory - it's because Rayllum is involved and Rayllum has an active community on tumblr. You go, guys!
RESULTS
Most ship pairs ended up being canon or popular ship vs a less popular noncannon ships so the majority of the winners most likely did not surprise anyone.
What I found surprising was Corpeli winning against Gremaya. These two ships have already faced each other in the final round of RPR with the following result

Here are the same two ships facing off this time
Granted two years have passed and many people left the fandom but I still find this colossal difference interesting.
I, once again, have a hypothesis based on the Shipping Poll results I held in 2020. Back then I noticed than most people who shipped Rayllum, also shipped Janaya and Ruthari, and the other ways around. I also noticed that shipping Janaya and Gremaya barely intersected (meaning Janaya shippers didn't ship Gremaya and vice versa). Now, RPR didn't include the canon ships while they were present in this event so it's possible that an influx of people who shipped Janaya changed the results dramatically. Notice the number of votes in each case. Only 64 percent of people voted in the final round of RPR. I'm sure it were mostly the people who cared about these ships.
CLAUDERRY VS CLAARAVOS
This is another case I find interesting, since Clauderry is a brand new ship and I didn't really know how popular it was among fans. The graph is definitely impressive o.o
My first thought was that maybe these were mostly votes against Claaravos rather than votes for Clauderry but then wouldn't the third category serve that function? It's still hard to draw any conclusions until I make another Shipping Poll.
VIRAVOS VS VIRROW
I suspected Viravos would win but I did not expect Virrow to do this badly
Sure, people hate Viren and love Aaravos but seriously? More people voted against either ship than for Virrow :( I hope Virrow does better.
That's it for now. I think round 2 is going to be more interesting because the winners and the losers of this round will face opponents in their own groups!

New Viravos Fic! "One Cake Please, Extra Ash" 💙💜🖤
Hey guys! I just posted a new fanfic on AO3! It's a Viravos comedy fic about Aaravos’s birthday and Viren, who can't cook or bake, trying to surprise him on his birthday. I only have one chapter up right now, but I'm planning on this being about 4 or 5 chapters total.

Absolutely ADORE how you draw TDP art. I just got into the show four days ago when a friend told me and I binged all five seasons, but now I'm rewatching. Aaravos ruined my life and if he asked me to dropkick Betty White with that voice of his I would.
ANYWAY, Viravos is my favorite toxic ship and you draw it so well, the way you draw Aaravos makes me lose my mind, as well as your overall talent. All in all, thanks so much for sharing your art on this platform, it's really inspiring as I'm working on improving my own art. Thanks!!!
Gosh thank you! You got into TDP just 4 days ago?? I wonder what the show is like when experienced like that. I watched the seasons as they came out (and experienced the very cursed hiatus). Ah, I remember how Aaravos dominated (TDP) Tumblr in 2019 like it was yesterday...
Viravos is so good! Congrats on having great taste. The homoerotic subtext, the questionable middle-aged mage man mpreg- Aaravos in general- it has everything. It's great fan art motivates you to draw more! I've actually gotten back into practising art fundamentals and live drawing this year myself^^ (so I can draw beautiful people kissing each other even better)

Feeling pretty flabbergasted after finishing TDP season 5. (I was way too busy to watch it until the original 27th release date so I've been dodging spoilers left and right.)
SPOILERS FOR TDP S5!
I'm sure we can all agree on that the Viravos baby jokes going canon were some of the highlights of the season. Kinda losing my mind over that. I was only joking about the canon mpreg but here we are. Like- It was all there in the subtext but I genuinely thought the show wouldn't adress it outright. Viravos going from having a canon baby to divorced to Viren...dying(?) in a span of 5 minutes was a lot but Viren has always been a huge dramaqueen so it's very fitting.
I was genuinely surprised that Aaravos actually kept his promise to Viren and even aknowledged that he knew Viren would never sacrifice Claudia or Soren. Aaravos came across... almost reasonable? I was convinced that he'd try to use Claudia or even Terry in the freeing spell. It seems to be implied that Aaravos considers Claudia to be too valuable of an asset to be used in a spell, hmm.
The voice acting and the way the expressions were animated was brilliant in the mirror scene. Aaravos face is just so darn cute! I kind of wish the show would finally tell us what he actually did and what his final goal is. At least now we know he is responsible for killing (or "devouring" whatever that means) Aditi so maybe that's a great enough reason for his imprisonment. He does cause a lot of trouble despite not being directly involved himself. Sneaky guy.
It's kind of telling where my priorities are 'cause I'm talking about the final 15 minutes of the season and nothing else. There is so much going on. This show has such a clutterbitch aesthetic and I love it.
It's hard being a Viren fan. Will he live or not??? C'mon TDP just tell me... The people I was watching with were convinced that he's ok just having a teeny-tiny mental breakdown is all. I saw someone saying that if Viren dies now it's anticlimactic but honestly if Viren must die this is the way I've always wanted him to go: no heroic sacrifice or anything. Something like that wouldn't fit his character at all. He just kind of... quits. I liked that very much. Very sullen & sad.
Anyway, now I'll go and create some more fan art of Viren and Aaravos exploring each others bodies.

Your continous contribution to the Viravos fandom are seen and greatly appreciated. In other words: Thank you a lot.
Also regarding the change of dynamic after Aaravos is free: I don't think Aaravos has forgotten about betrayal being the reason he got imprisoned in the first place. Yet I still think he is at least a bit lonely after all these years in solitary confinement. So having VIren, who now so utterly depends on him for staying alive and who is willing to do anything to get Aaravos to not manipulate and use his daugbter (also Viren has gotten a soft spot for Terry), is.. convenient.
And even though Aaravos knows that Viren wouldn't be stupid enough to betray the one person who can give him some semblence (illusion) of power Aaravos needs reassurance.
With all of this causing Aaravos to act more than a bit controlling and possessive, Viren is having mixed feelings about this development. Because a part of him too is anticipating betrayal. And even though his ego (at least what is left of it) is not entirely on board with being treated like this and a part of him is very aware that this could end badly for him, he finds himself feeling glad that at least Aaravos doesn't seem to want to throw him and Claudia (and, yes, by association also Terry) away and let him die.
You're welcome! It's a little bit funny how most of the fan art posting in the Viravos tag is done by me haha uh oh.
That sounds cool! Aaravos having some good in him vs him being controlling and manipulative is delish. I'd love to read that fanfic.
I think the show has a lot of potential to explore Aaravos' more human (elven?) side through his interactions with Team Claudia (formerly known as Team Viren) but I'm content with whatever the creators decide to give us.

AAAA Awesome! I'm glad my art brings you joy! Yeah, Viravos surged in popularity in 2019 when the season 2 came out. I think it's still the most popular non-canon ship according to AO3 and fanpolls. Unfortunately the peak was 3 years ago so its fanbase has definitely been in decline. But who knows! Maybe it'll rise again! I'll def stick around just to see what happens : D I know people who still make great fan art and fic for it but since lots of those people have moved from Tumblr to Twitter it's harder to find their work.

Once again, here's a breakdown of votes by favorite ship.
NOTE: When I say “[SHIP NAME] shippers” or “[SHIP NAME] fans”, I refer to the people who took part in this specific round and chose [SHIP NAME] as their favorite ship.
Firstly, I wanted to comment on how active Rayllum shippers were this round! 47 people or half of total voters!
There were more Ruthari shippers, too (14), yet Viravos and Janaya numbers doesn't seem to grow. Also, 4 Virrow shippers and 3 Claaravos.
No surprises here.
Some Rayllum fans, understandably, found it hard to choose between two faves, while most other shippers seem to prefer Ruthari. Although some Viravos and Janaya shippers do like both ships.
I expected Harrai to win but not by this much! Admittedly, there's a number of people who like both ships but in this fandom canon ships always always win against noncanon ones, which we can see depicted in the table below:
Another expected result with unexpected proportions. Clauderry seemed like an popular newcomer among canon ships. However, Janaya is part of the big three and has had a much larger impact on the fandom as a whole over the years.
It's interesting how proportionally, Viravos shippers seem the most likely to pick Clauderry. What I mean is, it was picked by 12% of Rayllum shippers, 14% of Ruthari shippers and 23% of Viravos shippers. I'm not counting Virrow shippers because their margin of error is 49%. It's possible than while many shippers like Clauderry, Janaya is still many people's favorite, especially when it comes to Rayllum and Ruthari shippers. More Rayllum shippers chose the "I like both" when their own ship went against Ruthari than they did here, when Clauderry went against Janaya. Claaravos shippers are known to vote against rival ships.
I'll be honest, I didn't know who would win, since both are canon background ships, but I guess Lain and Tiadrin are Rayla's parents (and still alive). Notice how we get the biggest number of people who voted "I don't care" so far this round. In fact, it's going to be the second biggest.
Virrow shippers seem to be the only ones preferring the Queens of Duren, while Viravos and Janaya shippers don't show a strong preference either way. Ruthari shippers' votes absolutely make sense since Rutahri and Laidrin are friends. So do the Rayllum shippers' votes.
After Viravos lost to Corpeli by a hair split last round, I was sure we'd see a closer match between Viravos and Grazi. However, it seems Grazi isn't as popular. In addition, a quarter of people either don't care about either ship ir don't like them altogether.
Rayllum and Janaya shippers seem split between the two, while Ruthari shippers are showing a slight preference towards Grazi. Virrow shippers are, as always, in solidarity with Viravos shippers and Claaravos once again vote against their rival.
Another category where I expected a closer match. They got the biggest number of people who don't like either ship, too!
Rayllum shippers are split between both choices and disliking both as well. Ruthari and Claaravos also don't show a strong preference. However, Viravos once again voted in solidarity with Virrow and Janaya voted against their rival.
Here it is - the biggest number of "I don't care" voters this round :D despite that, Ezranya still managed to win with a big difference.
While most shippers don't seem to show a clear preference, the big three - Rayllum, Ruthari and Janaya - prefer Ezranya. It's a very strong preference in Rayllum's case, too!
Finally, poor Claaravos can never catch a break. They were beaten by Avibeia, a ship that, until now, lost every battle due to irrelevance. And they were beaten by a huge difference in votes even with almost a third of the voters either not caring about or disliking both ships.
The only ship without a clear preference is Viravos. The big three clearly favos Avibeia, while Virrow shippers prefer Claaravos.
