Zexal Month: Redesign (Nistro)
Tumblr media
For this month I decided to do a few redesigns for Zexal Month and I decided to start with Nistro.
Actually, I have no issue with Nistro’s canon design and this is definitely one of the designs that I wanted to do for fun. I really like Nistro as a character, I think he’s really fun and I just really like his look. His Giant coat with orange fur is absolutely my favorite thing about his original design.
So for the redesign I went ahead and played around with what I thought would suit Nistro and his story best. He’s Heartland’s left hand man and an enforcer for the WDC. In this redesign, The outfit shown is an alternate design of what he wears when he enters the carnival himself.
When I was figuring out what to do with this design, I was thinking in terms of his relationship with Mr. Heartland, His role in Heartland City, and how he moves on from there. I figured that the clothes he’d be wearing would be dark, intimidating, and have a clean silhouette in the beginning when he’s first seen; It’d be a contrast to Mr. Heartland who’s ostentatious and colorful.
Then when he joins the WDC so he could battle Yuma again, He sorta distances himself from Heartland’s control and reignites poorly smothered sparks inside him and he dons a striking flame jacket that intimidates his opponents and challenges Heartland.
After the Tower fall and Dextra and him escape, he’s free of Heartlands control and dresses more casually with a triadic color scheme to match his newfound success as a wrestler.

STATE OF THE WIPS
@pocketsonny tagged me in a wip sharing post so here we are gjdakslgj
WRITING:
A 3+1 Vrains Post Canon Project Summary: Exploring Takeru's view of love through 4 different relationships(Kiku, Aoi, Yusaku, Ryoken). There's break ups, celebrity crushes, unrequited love, and more. AN: I've been working on this one for at least 2 years now LOL, I really want to finish it sometime soon, I have committed far too much of my own emotions into it. Originally wanted this one done for a certain shipweek that just passed, but that was never happening because I had my Alaska trip right beforehand haha, it's also still growing somehow omfg, I'm really having fun exploring Takeru's voice, Takeru's such an important character to me gjdsklajg Current Word Count: ~ 19K
An AU I affectionately call "Rites For Warring Kings" Summary: Takes place 8+ years after Zexal concludes. Discussing past lifes, reincarnations, and the power of the human spirit, and how you don't need divinity to stand among gods. AN: This one is still in the outlining stage with me writing out various scenes and moments as they come to mind so as to not lose them. Home to my Zexal OC's backstory, though this one is just one of the endings, and also a bit of a love letter to my favorite deck, Photon/Galaxy, as well as the support that came for it following Zexal's end.
I also don't talk about this one because some of its content will not be a lot of people's cup of tea, sweats, so I may never really share it or promote it once it's done, it's truly just a self-indulgent project. Current Word Count: putting all outlines, scenes, and chapters together, ~30K
The Analysis Paper: Summary: Literally what it says... and it's about an onion, god help me. AN: I'm rewatching Zexal and company slowly so I can do this, right now it's outlined for what I wanna focus on but I need visuals and a refresh on some parts, I'm excited though, lowkey might make this one into a video essay Word Count: 9K
There's also a ton of miscellaneous AUs that pop into my brain for a week before disappearing until I wake up in a cold sweat in 4 months and have to work on them Like I want to do more with Duel Links As Canon oneshots, and I have so many writing week projects I wanna finish on principal-
---
As for non-writing, I have SO MANY cosplay wips too but right now the only cosplays I'm actively working on are Shingo Sawatari from Arc V and the Duel Monster S:P Little Night lol
I do want to remake Ryouga's wig because it sits so BAD on my head and I hate it a little, after remastering Kaito's, I just know my skill set can make a good one jfdkslaj And I really wanna finish Soulburner's props now that Gazelle is at 3 and I can play full power Salad at tournaments eyeball emojis

Puzzleship JP & KR Fancomic Recommendation List
UPDATE (19-12-2020): Added two more artists and two more titles on the Japanese lists!
I don’t consider myself as someone very tidy and organized, but I just like making lists of the things I love, somehow. Hence this post. I haven’t been in the fandom for long but I thought I’d share some of my favorites primarily from two sites: pixiv and postype. Most of the postype ones are behind paywall, and I will mark them differently.
Some of my favorites come from the same artists, so I’ll also link their pixiv profile on top of my favorite work of them.
(I actually bookmarked a lot and picking them isn’t an easy task, so I will update this step by step. If you see only a link of an artist, that’s the reason, but I can guarantee you will love their works! Feel free to recommend me yours through reblogs or DM as well!)
Japanese
Artist: CYHGM
She is a Chinese and is more active on Weibo (she posted tons of puzzleship there, but my Mandarin is beyond rusty so I could only cry in despair lmao), but she has two fancomics that I absolutely adore of. Those two mentioned fancomics are:
The Past and The Future. You can check my translation for this one here. It tells about Atem who gets transported to 3000 years later before his coronation, and that’s where he met post-canon!Yugi. Just... everything about this comic is so wonderful. I teared up at the last page, not gonna lie ;_;
The Pharaoh and The Fairy: An Ancient Egypt-slash-fantasy AU featuring the S0/TOEI casts. The fairy Yugi was saved by Atem, and it’s an obligatory for fairies to grant their savior’s wishes. However, Atem doesn’t exactly have something he wants of, and this confuses Yugi on how he should repay him back. Pure undiluted sugar, and fairy!Yugi is just so cute.
Artist: Fushitas
Arguably one of the most popular Puzzleship fanartists in the JP fandom (look at their number of followers on Twitter, man), but maybe it’s also due to the fact they were in AoT fandom too. They’re mostly active on Twitter, and if you also watch Zexal, they draw tons of Yuma-centric pairings too. They have released lots of books, and their prices on the reseller sites are... well, let’s just say, unbelievable. Just to show how famous they are.
From everlasting to everlasting: Set after DSOD. A mysterious figure appears in front of Atem, claiming to be his queen. Everyone in the after life somehow acknowledges this person, which makes him even more confused because he’s the only one unaware of this. On the living realm, Yugi who is on the way to his home got hit by a truck (isekai much??) and when he woke up, he suddenly plays the role of Atem’s queen. I’ve always adored Fushitas’ drawing, and this is no exception. The story is pretty simple, but is still good! The ending of this comic is everything I’ve always wanted from the canon lol.
The King’s Guest: Ancient Egypt AU. The councils are starting to get worried because Atem shows no interest in marrying someone, so Shimon opens up a “chance” sort of for civilians to become “someone for the Pharaoh to talk with”. The civilian Yugi takes this chance right off the bat, and stuff happens? This one is just so sweet and the misunderstanding later in the story kinda cracks me up. I really love the way they build the two’s chemistry in here.
Artist: usi
They only draw two puzzleship fancomics, but both are so good and explores the themes I’ve loved from the pairing.
The Lotus’ Devil: Set post-canon with a flashback. It tells about Yugi’s regret in the past where he wanted to show Atem a small pool supposed to be full of lotus flower only to arrive seeing them not blooming. Fast forward to the post-canon, he found out that there’s actually a monster residing on that pool. I really, really loved the ending scene of this one.
Who’s The Detestable, Fortunate Guy Here: I think this is set sometime in the canon story, although the exact timing is unclear. It’s a short comic of Yugi asking Atem to pretend to be his date and go on a “dating practice”. A very pleasant hurt-and-comfort kind of story, and who doesn’t love a story of them dating anyways? :”D
Artist: Houzuki Anzu
She doesn’t draw much YGO, but she has some Arc-V and 5D’s fanarts too if you watch the series!
Hourglass: Sets after the Memory World arc. Yugi keeps hearing a strange sound inside his mind, and he finds out there’s a huge hourglass standing there, guarded by the will of Millenium Puzzle. Apparently, the hourglass is linked to Atem’s remaining time in the living realm? Anyways, the ending of this comic might look like a cliffhanger, but I personally think it isn’t. I love the theme this comic picks to explore and the way it is presented.
Present: Same setting with Hourglass, but this one focuses more on Atem sorting out his feelings about the Ceremonial Duel and what he has learned from Yugi in general. It’s a very nice extra detail that the canon slightly lacks of, and I just love... bittersweet stuff in general haha.
Artist: Chiriko
Are you the type who wants puzzleship to be full of happiness and fluff and nothing else? Well, she has a number of comics to fill that need! I actually love all of her works, but if I have to pick, these two are my favorite:
...Don’t Ever Leave Me Again: A short story about Yugi having a nightmare of where he was stuck in the fire accident at Otogi’s store. Well... this isn’t a fluff sort of, but it’s... a happy ending still? /shot
[Untitled]: A dialogue-less comic, but this is the sort of post-canon what-if that I really, really like. Atem stroking Yugi’s face while sleeping is just... so soft man....
Artist: Komori Nea
Their art style was one of those that’s very noticeable and has a certain charm on it. They are pretty active on Twitter, and even draws puzzle comics once in a while that haven’t been uploaded to pixiv (which is why I recommend you to check their twitter gallery too haha)
The Soul Stays Awake: Post!DSOD. Atem comes back from afterlife in hoping that Yugi would be as happy as he is, but months after, Atem’s existence still hasn’t been registered on Yugi’s life just yet. Another post!DSOD take that I like which involves the fear of another farewell and uncertainty, but this is a good hurt-and-comfort. I swear, it’ll hurt you just... for a while. :”)
The Attack’s Aim: Set during the canon series. A short comic mostly portraying Yugi’s hidden strength but also the tenacity of duelist that is not only targeted toward the opponent, but also to Atem, without the person actually noticing it. The last page of this one is so... soft and gentle I had to put it into this list.
Artist: caf
Often draw with S0/TOEI style, characters and characterization in mind. Their coloring in illustrations is so soft, plus artists who specialize in S0/TOEI style can’t be found so easily. Their comic style is not a manga-like one and they write the dialogues with handwriting, but if you can read hiragana and write and understand how kanji works (so you can write it on translation machine), their comics are easy to understand!
magenta: S0/TOEI AU where Yugi and Atem are two separate person. A short comic of Yugi lying under the rain as Atem searches for his whereabouts. I really love the way they portray the rain and the atmosphere surrounding the scene. Or maybe I’m just biased with rains in general, ahahaha.
Yuugi and Mao’s Stay Home: Same AU as above. Our two boys has to face the same shit we do IRL in this comic, which is quarantine. Atem offers to cook something for Yugi since he can’t eat outside. You love seeing Yugi eating stuff? This is a perfect comic for y’all.
Artist: Kkyut
Artist: Kayu(i)
Others:
Gemini: As Atem comes back to the living world, Yugi faces the dilemma of having being separated by “his other self” physically and mentally. A short comic, but the lines the artist used are so... beautiful. Like, the way they describe Yugi’s loneliness?? Just hits the park so much.
Until The Hourglass Runs Out: Set after the Memory World Arc. As their farewell day goes closer, Yugi decides to give Atem a full control of his body at school so he could spend his time with Jounouchi and the gang more. However, things don’t go as smooth as Yugi had expected. If you like that little teeny weeny pain before the Ceremonial Duel, this comic perfectly suits the taste.
see you sometime: Post-canon. Mahaad offers Atem a chance to meet Yugi in the living realm one more time, but with several conditions. Firstly, he could only stay for a day at maximum. Secondly, Yugi won’t be able to remember who he spent his time with after Atem hangs out with him. Thirdly, Yugi will not be able to “recognize” this Atem; he will only be registered in Yugi’s mind as a new classmate. A bittersweet comic in whole, but seeing the two having fun like a normal teenager would just makes me grin.
After The Rain: A dialogue-less comic, so everyone would be able to read this right away. A short comic of the two, but still very cute and wholesome!
The Tropics of Horus: Post!DSOD, Atem has to chase Kisara who lingers around Kaiba’s soul and he needs Yugi’s help to bring Kisara back to afterlife, but he has his own ulterior motive. This manga is so dialogue-heavy and might be hard to dissect especially if you don’t understand JP grammar and context, but the time spent trying to understand the meaning behind every words will be worth it. That much I guarantee. Just... everything about this comic, and how Atem’s “ulterior motive” connects to our boys’ adventure in canon series are so well planned. You can also purchase the R18 version in a form of the book here (toranoana)
Christmas Day: S0/TOEI puzzleship hint (dark puzzle???). There’s something in store for Yugi in Christmas, but this one might surprise Yugi a lot. It’s not that the prompt of “Atem gets separated from Yugi temporarily” is uncommon, but it is still a sweet one and makes you smile throughout the pages.
Korean
All titles mentioned here are not free unless mentioned otherwise. Also I don’t understand Korean except being able to read Yugi and Atem’s name, so my story interpretation might be wrong. If you understand Korean, I’d really love for you input! ;_;
You can check out on how to buy comics from postype here
Yugi’s 2020 Birthday Anthology: Rain and After End
This is an anthology consisting of four titles, but they share the same (or similar) setting where Atem is reincarnated, but he doesn’t remember his past (or has not yet, depending on how the story portrays it). Some are age-gap (adult!Yugi and high school student!Atem), so you might want to consider that if it’s not your cup of tea.
To Like Someone is to...: Age-gap setting. Mostly tells about how Yugi deals with his feeling as the reincarnated Atem in front of him turns out to have a feeling on him. I like how the story’s conclusion is that Yugi will sort it out slowly while also teasing Atem how he’s “too early” to date Yugi w.
In A Circle: A story about how the two met through an online chess game. Iirc Yugi works in a game company and Atem is sort of a famous e-sports player in this setting. There’s a lot of dialogue in this one and the app sometimes can’t process them very well, but I liked what I can understand from it! not very convincing is it haha i’m sorry i shouldn’t have done this
Familiarity: Age-gap setting, where Yugi becomes Atem’s caretaker. The comic mostly focuses on how Atem notices how kind (or too kind) Yugi is sometimes, but there are times where he feels distant. The plot where Atem gets into a fight with the other kid in his school because the kid mocks Yugi, and how Yugi just... accepts it even when Atem doesn’t want to say his reason of punching the kid is just.... god... I love this kind of age-gap setting like this I guess ;_;
Touchdown: Age-gap setting, but Atem is older in here (university student). The two goes to Atem’s university festival and they think about their own feeling when they got separated. On their way to drop Atem off, he confesses to Yugi, but Yugi is still unsure on his overlapping feeling between the reincarnated Atem and the Atem he knows. Make sure you play Motohiro Hata’s Rain and Aimer’s After Rain during the car scene to make the “rain” mood works even better :”)
Others:
Try For Point: A continuation of Touchdown, where Atem (like, the one from the past) visits Yugi in his dream and helps Yugi in sorting out is his feeling toward his reincarnated self. Atem’s advice is so sweet and there’s one certain line from this comic that I remember very deeply - there’s a part where he says, “If you don’t pull out the card, you won’t know what card it is, right?” to help Yugi clearing out his hesitancy ;w; at this point, I curse myself for not being able to understand Korean

[fanfic] Invitations
Nasch’s attention flickered from the tiny girl seated on the throne to his left hand to the door, then over to the knight who stood to his right.
“Everything’s working fine,” Durbe told him, voice pitched low to avoid being heard by anyone who wasn’t the King. “All of the invitations were delivered properly.”
Nasch’s eyebrows narrowed ever so faintly. “Including the one to Vector?”
“Yes,” Durbe nodded. He’d been in charge of seeing to that particular invitation, while common heralds and messengers managed the others. The effects of their work showed here and now.
As did the effects of his – there wasn’t any sign of Vector anywhere, nor had any of the guards posted sent a warning of any sort. Perhaps the false celebrations they’d set up elsewhere would be enough to keep him distracted.
Tiny Princess Isis – a child Nasch and Merag found after a harsh battle in a distant land and brought back with them – sat on the finely carved throne, her hands resting on her lap, glancing nervously about. This party celebrated her official adoption by Nasch and Merag, bringing her into their family.
Neither of them were inclined to marriage or offspring. Merag had pledged herself to the God of the Ocean and while it wasn't forbidden for her to wed if she’d met someone, everyone knew that the odds of her meeting someone she’d choose were slim to non-existence. Nasch had other reasons for not wedding – reasons that Durbe knew very well indeed.
Almost all of the guests had arrived. Emperor Leonius arrived early, along with his favorite gladiator Alit. Rumors ran that Alit was far more to him than a mere gladiator – a common arena fighter wouldn’t be brought along on this sort of trip. Nasch didn’t question. It wasn’t as if he didn’t know the teasing allure of those who weren’t born to a royal title.
Someone new entered the chamber – two someones, in fact. Nasch glanced up to see who it was. Durbe knew them at once, of course.
“Mizael!” Durbe moved over, smiling. Nasch recognized the name as that of a famous dragon tamer who protected a land to the north and east. Someone he didn’t know stood next to Mizael, glancing around, a bit uncomfortable here. “Who is your friend?”
“This is Ryou,” Mizael said, nodding towards him. “We met a few months ago. I thought he would enjoy visiting here too.”
The stranger nodded politely. “It’s as lovely as I was told.”
After a few more words, Mizael and Ryou moved on, while Durbe returned to his position at Nasch’s right hand. He didn’t move away from it except to greet another famous guest, a general who’d won great acclaim on the battlefield and appeared here with his newly wed wife, an accomplished singer and musician. Not every guest deserved to be greeted by either the King or his Knight personally.
Nasch considered having a meal brought. It had been a very long day and his stomach rumbled. He started to gesture for one of the servants, when a noise came from the entryway, and Durbe stiffened at once.
“He wasn’t invited,” Durbe muttered. Nasch’s eyes narrowed as whoever it was moved closer.
“Who is it?” He demanded to know. Durbe glanced back at him.
“Do you remember the sorcerer Arclight?” the knight asked, his attention returning to the approaching figure. Nasch nodded; he’d heard many tales of the sorcerer and his three sons. “That’s Thomas, the middle son. I know no one invited him. But he’s here.”
Nasch’s lips thinned at that. It looked as if he wasn't going to be getting his dinner as soon as he hoped he would be. But he wasn’t going to allow anyone to ruin tonight’s celebration. He could see Merag also glaring at the approaching sorcerer – or whatever he was.
“Does he share his father's mage-talents?” Nasch asked. He’d heard a few things about how the youngest of the three was a skilled swordsman and the eldest took after his father in mage-craft, but not very much about what this middle child could do.
“He’s a fire-mage,” Durbe murmured. “Very talented with them, too.”
Fire-mages were rare and hadn’t appeared often in his realm, which was far more dedicated to the ways of water magic than anything else.
“What are you doing here, Thomas?” Merag asked, standing next to Iris and glowering with all the fury of the ocean at the newcomer.
The fire-mage laughed, tossing his mane of red and gold hair, sunlight glinting off of it. “Well, hello, there, Merag.” His eyes glittered hungrily. “I suppose I should have expected to see you here.”
“Considering this is my realm too, yes,” Merag snapped back. “No answer me. You weren’t invited.”
“What does that have to do with it?” Thomas crossed his arms over his chest. “You invited all of them.” He waved one hand to where Emperor Leonius and Alit, Mizael and Ryou, General Gilag and Sanagi, and everyone else. “So why can’t I show up if I want to?” He smirked. “Not enough golden plates to eat off of?”
“We don't’ eat off of gold,” Merag replied flatly. “You weren’t invited because no one wanted you here.”
Silence fell. Thomas’s lips thinned before he looked past her to where Nasch began to rise to his feet.
“Well, if it isn’t His Majesty.” Thomas smirked, waving one hand, tiny flames dancing on the tips of his fingers. Nasch tried to tell himself that the sight wasn’t attractive and failed rather miserably.
You have Durbe already. But there stood Thomas, blazing bright, with gleaming dark red eyes.
“What do you want here?” Nasch asked, fingers twitching. He knew his guards watched carefully; if Thomas made a move that he didn’t like, then he’d be a pincushion inside of a handful of seconds.
Thomas smiled. It was much like the smile of a shark. Normally Nasch liked those, but this gave off a different feeling.
“I’m here for the same reason as everyone else is.” Again he waved one flame-tipped hand. “This is a party. I even brought a gift for the new little princess there.”
Merag moved closer to Iris. It had been her idea to adopt the little girl, who now wrapped one hand around Merag’s, trembling. Nasch stood next to his sister, glaring sharply at him.
“What kind of gift are you talking about?”
“Why, just this.” Thomas twisted his hands and then held out a small gem to Iris. “This is a sunstone – a gemstone connected to the power of fire. It will always keep you warm, no matter how cold it is around you.”
“We don’t get cold weather here,” Merag said. “Why do you want to give her that?”
Nasch wondered the same thing. It never got that cold here. So what was he thinking about?
“She might not spend her entire life here,” Thomas pointed out, doing his level best to appear innocent, and not being very good at it. “But it also carries a powerful protective spell in general. You can throw it in the ocean if you don’t want it. But it’s hers – shouldn’t it be her decision if she takes it or not?”
Nasch glanced at Iris, whose attention focused on the sunstone. Thomas flicked his fingers again and now a silver chain hung from the gemstone. He offered it to her, and she reached for it slowly.
“Thank you, sir,” she murmured. “It’s beautiful.”
Thomas smiled. It was probably the most genuine expression that Nasch had ever seen on his face. “It’s yours, then. Slowly he moved forward. Nasch found himself tempted to alert the guards, but he didn’t. Maybe the fire-mage actually meant well. He was just an ass – it wasn’t as if Nasch himself wasn’t the same way sometimes.
He slid the chain over Iris’s neck, then stepped back, glancing at Nasch and Durbe. “I didn’t just bring presents for her.”
Again his hands flashed with fire that coalesced into two polished gemstones, both of them a reddish-brown, a great deal like Thomas's own eyes, along with flashes deep inside of red, orange, and gold. It reminded Nasch thoroughly of fire itself.
“I brought these for you two,” Thomas said. “They’re fire agate.” A twitch to his lips. “Would you like to know what these gems mean?”
Nasch started to open his mouth, but Durbe beat him to it. “They increase physical energy and stamina. Or so the stories say.” He rested one hand on Nasch’s shoulder, and Durbe suspected there was something more to those gems than just stamina.
“That they do,” Thomas agreed. “But I also added something else for them. When you want to see me, all you have to do is touch them and call my name.”
“Why would we want to see you?” Nasch wanted to know. None of the tension had faded since he’d entered the chamber.
“Oh, who knows. You might want to talk. Or something else.” Thomas smirked. “Now, I came all this way. I want something to eat. You do have refreshments, don’t you?”
Nasch crossed his arms. “I could use something myself.” And he would definitely want to make sure that Thomas still didn’t cause any trouble.
He wasn’t sure of where those gemstones vanished off to. Perhaps Thomas just made them disappear again. But perhaps it didn’t matter, as for the moment, the fire-mage seemed content to accept a plate of food and settle down to eat. Durbe and Nasch picked up their own food, while Merag had a couple of plates brought to her and Iris.
Thomas nibbled on one of the finger foods and sipped from his wine cup. “This is a very nice party,” he said. “Let me guess, you didn’t invite Vector either?”
Nasch didn’t question how Thomas knew Vector. Everyone knew Vector, whether they wanted to or not.
“Of course we sent him an invitation,” Durbe said, a quick smile over his lips. “It just didn’t invite him to this party.”
“Clever.” Thomas leaned backwards. “I’m surprised you didn’t try the same trick with me.”
“We didn’t know you’d even want to come,” Nasch admitted. The Arclight family had been considered for the guest list, but Merag hadn’t wanted to. Nasch suspected that she knew more about the scar on Thomas’s face than either of them were ever going to talk about.
Thomas rested one hand over his heart. “I should feel wounded. Why wouldn’t I want to come? Now, my brothers – Christopher is busy with Prince Kaito. I think they’re sending a present of their own. Michael is busy somewhere else. I couldn’t say where – he’s trying to collect some ancient treasure or something. His lips pursed. “I think he teamed up with the son of an adventurer. They’re probably going to be busy for a while.
He shrugged and nibbled more of his food. “But I wasn't doing anything and if you’d sent me the invitation I probably wouldn’t have bothered.” Again that fiery glint in his eyes and Nasch tried to avoid thinking about it. He knew very well he was doing a very bad job of it. “But you didn’t – so I did.”
Durbe took a deep drink of his own. “So you just showed up because you weren’t invited.”
“Yes.” Thomas admitted without a care. He tilted his head up. “I probably won’t stay long. Too wet around here.” He caught Nasch’s eye and grinned. “But you can always invite me back with those gemstones. They’ll only work if you both use them at the same time. I wouldn’t want to break the two of you – up.”
The pause between words had to have been deliberate. He licked his lips slowly, eyes still fastened on Nasch and burning with an intensity fit to evaporate the ocean. Nasch didn’t look away, not even when he felt Durbe’s hand closing around his.
He’s offering – is he? Nasch wanted to think he knew but this was the first time Thomas had ever stood face to face with him. Why would he make an offer like that? He couldn’t possibly mean it.
Durbe’s thoughts ran in the same direction. “You hardly know us. Why would you claim that?”
“Claim what?” Thomas needed a lot of practice if he were going to sound innocent but he certainly gave it a good attempt. “I said you could invite me back. What do you do with guests to your kingdom?” He waved both of his fire-tipped hands again. “Really.” He also tried to sound offended. He was much better at that.
Nasch refused to commit himself and concentrated on getting his dinner finished. The other party-goers ate as well, mingling and chatting amongst themselves. Nasch could hear a few whispers that seemed more or less wondering exactly what Thomas was up to. No one else dared challenge him, and Nasch wanted to believe they thought that he could handle the matter if necessary.
Once Thomas finished, he rose to his feet. “It’s time for me to go. But as I said, invite me back any time. Perhaps I could get used to your realm if I see it often enough.” He glanced to where Merag glowered towards him. “And a good day to you as well, Highness.”
In between one breath and the next, a column of fire erupted from his feet, and when it faded away, Thomas wasn’t there anymore. Nasch glanced at Durbe, who looked more than a little relieved at his departure.
“Later,” Durbe murmured. “After the party.”
Nasch agreed; this was something far better discussed behind closed doors. The party didn’t last much longer after that; everyone finished their food, bid Nasch, Merag, and Iris good night, and retired to their quarters. The celebrations would go on for another three days, and Nasch expected everyone would be exhausted by the end.
He hadn’t been in his room long before the expected quiet tapping came, and Durbe followed a breath afterward. He moved over to embrace his lover for a few seconds.
“Do you think he was serious?” Durbe wanted to know as they settled down on the bed. Nasch brushed his fingers through Durbe’s wind-roughened hair. He’d probably gone on a flight with Mach before coming over.
“I doubt it. But we can test him to find out if he is. He claimed he’d be a guest. Let’s show him what the real hospitality of the realm is.” Nasch smiled his own shark-like smile. “He’s a fire-mage. He should know it’s not wise to play with water or air either.”
Durbe regarded him for a few moments before he laughed. “You’re right.” He slid one arm around Nasch and pressed a kiss against the king’s lips. “But we can talk about that later, too.”
Nasch definitely agreed. Planning how to turn the tables on Thomas could wait until after he and Durbe relaxed enough to truly enjoy it.
On the table next to the bed, two fire agates gleamed.
The End
Notes: I couldn’t resist sneaking my new OTP in there (Ryou x Mizael) and I’m beginning to like the idea of Durbe/Nasch/Thomas as well. The sparks would fly in every direction!

The past Avatar: Astral. Born and raised in the Norhtern Watertribe. He was announced the Avatar at the age of 14 when the Fire Nation started the war. Overwhelmed and scared he left the Northern Watertribe to get to the other nations to his friends, only to end up in a storm and the Avatar state trapping him in an iceberg. About 90 years later the Fire Nation army find him and kill him on sight. He has not much guidance and advices for Yuma but supports him as much as he can and helps him connect with the Avataras before them.
Eartbenders:
Fourth: Oldest child and first daughter of Kazuma and Miari Tukumo, leader of the Kyoshi warriors at the age of 19. She is very protective over her siblings and a very patience teacher. Has a natural talent for earthbending and easily learned seismic sense and metal bending when Third taught them.
Third: Second child and first son of Kazuma and Mirai Tsukumo. Eartbending master at the age of 18 and teaches earthbending to the kids on Kyoshi island. He’s very calm and strategic. During an ambush by the Fire Nation, one soldier injured his eyes, leaving him blind. Struggled with it until he discovered seismic sense and learned how to ‘see’ again. Taught it to all the earthbenders on the island. During their jouney he was captured by Fire Nation and trapped in a metal cage. Discovered metal bending and caused havoc on the entire Fire Nation camp on his own.
Second: Third child and second daughter of Kazuma and Mirai Tsukumo. Fourths second in command and a free spirited 16-year-old with a serious side. She was the one who heard about the group of benders that could teach Yuma the other three elements. She too knows seismic sense and metal bending, but had a harder time learning than her sister. In love with Vector but denies it.
Girag: A thickheaded 16-year-old with a soft spot for his pet tanuki Ponta. He can be a bit dumb sometimes but in a very sweet way. After accusing a fire bender teen for stealing Ponta, the two got into a fight only to realize it was a huge misunderstanding. They became friends and after Girag showed his new friend, Alito, how horrible the Fire Nation treats the Earth Kingdom and its people, the two set out to make a difference. Only to get in a lot of trouble and being rescued by a traveling air nomad and his two water tribe companions. Once their little group of 7 was completed, the Avatar and his siblings found them and he too learned from Third and is able to meatal bend. Seismic sense not so much.
Eliphas: Earth Kingdom King. Never left Ba Sing Se. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.
Airbender:
Durbe: A 16-year-old Air bending Master traveling the world with his trusted sky bison Mach. Raised in the southern Air Temple. During his travels he came across two stranded water benders and offered them a ride to the Earth Kingdom, where he was going anyways. The three formed a strong friendship and they ended up rescuing Alito and Girag from a group of Fire Nation soldiers. He becomes Yumas Air bending teacher and is very patience with him, since earth and Air are opposite elements.
Waterbender:
Nash and Merag: 15-year-old Twins and last water benders from the Southern Watertribe. They weren’t very skilled as they had no one to teach them. Their people send them away in hopes to save them when the Raiders came to wipe out the last Waterbenders at the South Pole. Both escaped on a small boat but ended up stranded, luckily Durbe found them and took them with him on Mach. The three became friends and the twins later learned waterbending together with Yuma under the harsh training of Vector. Merag becomes a skilled healer
Vector: Became a Waterbending master at the mere age of 13, a prodigy and very skilled bender. Intrigued by the ‘good’ and ‘evil’ use of every element and knows that any bending can be both. Discovered bloodbending and mastered it at the age of 16, once it was found out he was banished from the tribe. On his way to the Earth Kingdom he found Mizael almost drowning in a storm. He rescued him and the two somehow became friends. A small group of waterbenders, an air nomad, a fire bender and an earthbender find them and they (somehow) become a group. First, he was against teaching the twins but after seeing how pathetic their bending was, he put them through hard training, later teaches the Avatar as well. Has the biggest crush on Second and fears Fourth.
Firebender:
Mizael: 17 years old. Crown prince and heir to the Throne of the Fire Nation. If he wasn’t banished by his father and marked as a traitor to the Nation. He wants peace and bring back balance to the world, spoke out to his father during a war meeting. He was given nothing but a small boat that ended up breaking during a storm. He would have drowned if Vector hadn’t found him. Both share a deep connection, despite Vector never admitting it. They understand each other and Vector promised to never use bloodbending on him. (He did once. To save Mizaels life). Mizael later teaches Alito and Yuma fire- and lightningbending. Even going so far to simulate an actual Agni kai with them. He knows that it has to be Yuma to defeat the Fire Lord to bring peace to the world and he is prepared to become the next Fire Lord to keep that peace. Even if it means fighting his younger brother in an Agni Kai.
Alito: a young 14-year-old Fire Bender born in an Earth Kingdom colony. He finds Ponta, the tanuki, and gets into a fight when Girag thought he stole him. Alito realizes how awful the Fire Nation truly is and together they cause trouble for the Fire Soldiers, only to be saved by Durbe, Nash and Merag. He learns from Mizael and is able to lightning bend. He and Yuma become good friends.
Mist: 14 years old and Mizaels younger brother. A prodigy and creates blue flames. He was very happy when is brother got banished, since it made him the next heir to the throne. He wants nothing more than become the Fire Lord, driven by serve childhood trauma and to prove himself to his father. After the new Avatar was found, his father sends him out to capture and kill the Avatar. He takes his two “friends” with him. Kaito and Luna.
Don Thousand: Fire Lord and a power-hungry tyrant. Banished his oldest son, severely emotionally damaged his second son and no one know where his wife(E’Rah) is and rumors exist that he killed her. Is defeated by Yuma.
Non Benders:
First and Dark: Twins and fourth and fifth sons of Kazuma and Mirai Tsukumo. 13 years old, First is the oldest. They too become Kyoshi warriors and are very skilled fighters. Both learned how to Chi-Block and learn material arts based on the bending forms. Dark gets along with Vector pretty well, much to Fourths horror.
Kaito: 17 years old and childhood friends of Mizael and Mist. A very skilled fighter and uses knifes. He and Mizael have been in love for a long time. He’s devastated when Mizael was banished but after finding him again while hunting down the Avatar, Kaito and Luna betray Mist to help Mizael and his group to escape.
Luna: 16 years old, a Chi-Blocker and circus artist. Enjoys the fights with First and Dark as it is an even match ever time. Betrays Mist for Kaito and Mizael. Childhood friend of the three.
A bit story:
While the Tsukumo kids search for teacher, Seconds hears rumors about the group with every bender present. They soon find these rumors to be true and decide to find them, since it would be easier than trying to get to the other nations. They find him and Yuma gets his teachers.
The invasion on the Fire Nation during the Day of the Black Sun fails.
Yuma faces Don Thousand on the day of the Numeron Comet (Sozins Comet). Mizael and Vector fly to the Fire Nation on Mach for Mizael to challenge Mist to an Agni Kai for the crown. Nash, Merag, Durbe, Alito, Girag, First, Dark, Second, Third and Fourth take down the entire Fire Nation fleet, to ensure that Yuma can fight the Fire Lord uninterrupted and to stop the fleet from burning down the Earth Kingdom. With all 4 elements, with three metal benders, a lightning bender at his strongest through the comet and two Chi-Blockers, the fleet went down in a blaze.
Nothing is completely set yet and I might change some aspects. But most characters are final. Tho the zexal siblings still need names...

Anime I Need to Watch (March 2017 update)
I was debating whether I should do these list updates at the start or end of each month, and whether it was worth updating it right now since I only made that list a week ago. But, I did want to add some things I forgot, and I’m too impatient to wait until tomorrow or the end of April. So, screw it, I’ll do this now and update these lists at the end of each month.
There’s not a lot of stuff that needs updating, but so far I did manage to watch a few things. I’ll describe what anime I’ve watched this month and how I felt about them briefly down below.
First off, I finished Trigun. And honestly, I really enjoyed it... but I’m not sure if I’d put it in my top 10 anime just yet.
I dunno, I enjoyed the series and it was really good, but something about it just kinda felt like it was really good, but not great. But I think this is a me thing, I’ll admit I’m not really a big fan of westerns and there wasn’t much wrong with Trigun, it’s a really good show with a lot of heart, good action, okay comedy and some good writing. There’s some stuff that made me pretty emotional too, and I really like Vash and Wolfwood’s characters (Meryl and Milly were just kinda okay to me). I really don’t know, maybe I just need to re-watch it again when I’m in just the right mood. I enjoyed Trigun a lot, don’t get me wrong and I’d gladly re-watch it again sometime. I’m just a little confused that I feel I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I should have, but I can’t really describe why I feel that. Maybe it’s just hype backlash or something.
I also got a chance to watch the Fist of the North Star movie from 1986, since Linkara recently got around to reviewing a chapter of the manga through patreon request I thought I might as well watch something from this franchise. Aaaand...
It was alright.
Yeah, the movie was firmly in the realm of okay for me. It’s pretty clearly dated and with the way a lot of it’s written you can definitely tell it was a very condensed version of the manga story, a lot of stuff could have been fleshed out and explained better, and the fights were really nothing to write home about. And that ending felt so forced and out of nowhere.
But that said, the movie does have it’s charms as an 80′s action flick. I liked the heroic characters well enough, and while I don’t usually like ultra violent and gory stuff, this film did make it’s gory action kinda fun in how over the top it got. And while the production values haven’t aged well, there is something charming about the film’s animation, there were plenty of cool moments and some good music.
So, yeah, nothing special and the film has some problems and could be kinda dull, and a tad stupid and confusing at parts, but I enjoyed it. I also decided to watch the first episode of the Toei anime adaption of Fist of The North Star and I enjoyed that a bit more, so I’ll probably watch the whole anime at some point soon after I get through the next two shows I’m watching. However long that takes.
Most notably, I decided to start watching Yu Yu Hakusho, which my buddy @dbzebra considers his second favourite anime after Dragon Ball. Seeing how we share a lot of the same interests and I trust his judgement, I decided to give it a watch. I just finished the whole first season, and so far, I’m LOVING it!
Honestly the show got me hooked by the end of the first episode, and it’s only gotten better since. I’ll probably go more into detail on my thoughts on this one in next months progress report, since it’ll probably take me most of April to finish the show considering it’s over a hundred episodes, but honestly if it keeps being as good as it’s been so far, it’ll easily make my top 5 favourite anime by the time I’m done, maybe top 3. I really love the characters, the story and just the general feel of the show. So yeah, thanks DBZebra, I probably wouldn’t have watched this if I didn’t know you liked it so much.
So, yeah. That’s my anime bingeing progress for the end of March. So far my plan for April is to finish Yu Yu Hakusho and also get back to Shokugeki No Soma (Food Wars!), an anime I was watching on the suggestion of my friend Hayley566 and I was really enjoying, but I got distracted after watching episode 9 and I haven’t got back to it. I hope I’ll finish it by the end of the month. After those shows I’ll probably go with something shorter, like Yuri on Ice or One Punch Man.
I also just got the Ghibli movie Only Yesterday in the post today, so I’m going to watch that right now. I’ve also ordered the dvd’s for Akira, Pokémon Destiny Deoxys and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, so I’ll have watched those movies soon, and hopefully more before the end of the month.
And again, I welcome any recommendations I get from people. Not that anyone’s really interested in hearing me ramble on about my stupid viewing habits, but oh well.

the final post of my current material for this au: zexal edition!
mizael majors in paleontology because when they were young they heard that dinosaur bones inspired dragon myths, and thought that was the coolest thing. they're minoring in art history and kind of pretentious about it.
durbe is majoring in art history and aims to curate a museum or art gallery. him & mizael often have the same classes. they're casual friends, and study together. they have a relationship for a few months towards the end of first year. they end up deciding its not working out, part because durbe is projecting an old crush and part because mizael is aro. they stay friends. if anything the brief period of intimacy makes them better friends.
alit is majoring in.. i forget what it's called but like, the study of bodies and fitness. he's been boxing since he was a kid, and now he teaches younger kids on the weekend. he also competes sometimes. everyone knows he's got a career in it ahead of him whether he gets his degree or not, but he's still a diligent student, if a bit distractable.
shark is obviously studying marine biology. he's really passionate about it but kind of an awkward edge lord and has trouble making friends with his classmates. eventually the other people in his program realize he's not so much malicious as awkward.
gilag is a straight up history major, specializing in folk lore. he's known in his program for his surprisingly cute art style. i'm tempted to say he makes rent drawing furry porn, but when he draws for himself it's mostly cute stuff.
vector is a theatre kid in the worst kind of way. uses his talents for evil. it takes his classmates half a year to catch on.
rio is a chemistry major but she got in on a sports scholarship. she's on the basketball team but a lot of other teams want her.
the barians are mostly in second year when yuuma starts uni. he's a theatre kid too. largely because i want the arc v theatre crew to interact with them and vector.
kaito might be in physics? science of light etc
kotori wants to be an elementary school teacher. she also takes a lot of literature classes
iv is also theatre, but more on the backstage/props end of things than the stage end. (that said i don't actually want to think about vector and iv interacting)
iii is also archeology. v is in physics, aiming to work at nasa eventually.
vector and yuuma get paired in a project thats meant to help the 1st years familiarize w the program by working with 2nd years. they're supposed to put on a short presentation and vector changes the script at the last minute in an attempt to fuck w yuuma, but yuuma is fantastic at improv an excells anyway. they get the best mark out of anyone, prof oblivious to shenanigans. yuuma goes up to vector after they get off stage and vector expects to get slapped but yuuma hugs him & is like,
"that was great, how'd you come up with it!!" vector can't decide if he hates yuuma or has a crush. they become friends. everyone who knows them doesn't understand how yuuma puts up with him but they take most of his sabotage as humour and enjoy it
vector also is Gay. chaotic evil twink. i want to have a complicated terrible vector/shark subplot honestly.
[vector] he's the worst boy I've ever seen i have to seduce him
vector spends two months asking around about shark to figure out a persona to build to date him. takes an elective he has no interest in and sits beside shark, eventually asks him to tutor him. things go more or less according to plan, they go on a few dates. like to the aquarium, to the nice cafe downtown where Dennis works, etc. eventually vector shows his true colours and shark gets his heart broken and its a mess.
and then rio beats him up. he ends up missing a performance he'd been practicing for for months due to a broken arm. yuuma is his understudy and does a great job of it. vector resents this immensely and lets it show but they stay friends anyway.
