Robin needs one-on-one platonic soulmate time when it’s too loud
Steve needs one-on-one platonic soulmate time when it’s too quiet
It can be too loud or quiet either due to their environment or what’s going on in their heads.
Emotions run high during the times when they’re hanging out with The Party and Robin starts feeling overstimulated while Steve’s hearing loss is suddenly more noticeable and he’s just kind of feeling disconnected from himself and his surroundings in spite of being around all the people he loves the most.
Emotions also run high when Steve’s alone in his big empty house, making him uncomfortably aware of how alone he is and paranoid about any hidden danger that could be around any corner while Robin is lying awake in bed, unable to turn off all of her thoughts until it’s all just a big wall of noise that just won’t stop and it’s all going so fast and she just wants to scream and why is the air conditioner so loud?
They’re each other’s anchors. Robin helps Steve reconnect to reality while Steve helps Robin center herself. Even when Robin isn’t in a chatty mood just the sound of her breathing can be enough to help Steve ground himself while he offers a calm and steady presence who is always willing to listen to her. They’re able to just get each other. They’re the only people in the world who has ever seen the other for all of who they are and not only accept each other, but also make each other feel accepted.
I just love these two as individual characters so much and I love their friendship even more.
(I talked more about their one-on-one soulmate time in this post)
