LITERALLY NOTHING-

I just saw you got a graphic novel and I just wanted to say I’m jealous because I’ve always wanted that copy I am freaking out! I hope it’s good I’m screaming for you right now!!!

BWAAAAAAh!!

It is actually pretty good!! I was pleasantly surprised. I’m so used to adaptations being different from the original novella that I never expect to have something like this.

In terms of adaptation, I think this was incredibly well done. It follows the same storyline and pacing as the original with Utterson as the lead. They gave my boy Gabriel a bit more personality through the art and I appreciate it. The text follows the og for the most part and there’s nothing really that outrageously new added. The things that bothered me personally were:

- The last chapter, which is narrated by Jekyll, takes up a LARGE part of the novella, and it is the best part in my opinion. Unfortunately, in this version, it’s only like three pages long.

- There’s a lot of free violence coming from Hyde’s actions, which is just how modern adaptations tend to go. They just love to see him be “evil” and snicker mysteriously on rooftops. I think it’s unnecessary lol

- The inclusion of visuals for this story kind of enforces a reading and interpretation of Jekyll’s sins. We see him drink and have relationships with working women. In the book, I feel like it is more up to the reader’s interpretations (apart from stepping on kids and murdering politicians lol). So as a queer person, I like to read my own experience in this story. I feel like I don’t get to have that with this graphic novel, but it’s ok lol

Overall it’s solid. The illustrations have an eerie dark vibe that work well with the material. The rendering is not to my taste but that’s fine. Hyde’s design is… interesting to say the least.

did you see the official gnarpy redesign render? I think they fixed the colours nicely and the design genuinely looks pretty good now!!

Unfortunately 😭 I still really don't like it !!! The colors ARE better though !!! I definatly was too harsh on the design though, and I do think the design is a fine one.

This is ALL my thoughts and opinions. it's no shame if you like the design!! I DO LIKE IT, genuinely no hate or hard feelings.

It's a cute design, it's good but.... not for roblox. But that's something I dislike about both the new gnarpy and the prototype designs. They don't feel like roblox or really suit the "roblox aesthetic"* IMO

I'm a roblox oldhead, though.... I liked regretevator because it had a lot of things that felt like old roblox and old roblox aesthetic, while still original. Personally, I prefer the r6 models way over the original meshes. I just don't think they look good on roblox, and they stick out like a sore thumb compared to the players and other r6 characters. But it's not my cup of tea. Honestly, I think the design would be so much better r6

I know also Roblox has been pushing away from r6 as a whole, and I guess it's just not a change I like, lol. Not just with regretevator, though i feel like they are tripping into this pitfall. I like the boxy blocky feel. Again, I am biased being a classic roblox fan!!!

*bad wording, I'm not sure how to really put this. I don't think you need to stick to a specific aesthetic, but at the same time, I feel like some things work, some don't.

TW DISCUSIONS OF THE GNARPY DRAMA AND INNAPROPRITE BEHAVIOR TORWARDS MINORS AND MENTIONS OF NSFW

Honestly, the entire redesign process and situation has left a bad taste in my mouth, outside of just the design itself. It's fine. I honestly was way too harsh on it. It really isn't that bad. But I really don't agree with how the situation was dealt with. It was incredibly innaproprite for the axolotl sun to boost a doc uncensored porn to their roblox fanbase on twitter. The Google document even broke Google's TOS because it was full of uncensored NSFW drawings. Specifically, NSFW drawn by a minor as well.

And half of the document was just screenshots of Gnarpys creator saying jokingly slurs they can reclaim. The entire situation with the creator should have been delt with PRIVATLY. Involving the internet and the VERY YOUNG child fanbase in that situation is a complete misstep in judgement in all parties involved. This is in no way defending the bad things Gnarpys creator has done either.

I just think the entire situation was dealt with incredibly irresponsibly. But Gnarpy’s creator gave up full rights to Gnarpy, and they have been completely chased off the internet. They're completely separated. The creator is not the character, and i still stand by that tbh.
