Summary: Selenophile: (n) a person who loves the moon.
A thought danced across his mind which pulled a laugh from his lips. Perhaps it was an odd thing to do, considering he was currently standing at-bat with his gloved hands wrapped sturdily around the bat. He had already nodded towards his coach, their plan firmly at the forefront of his mind. But even as he adjusted his grip, shifting his fingers a hair's breadth down the bat, he still felt a bubbling in his throat as the chuckle threatened to come out once again. The rival catcher had already given him an odd look, but he didn't deign to answer, rather adjusting his stance one last time before nodding at the umpire.
The catcher signalled his pitcher and received a dutiful nod in response. Even as the rest of Kazuya’s body tensed in preparation of the pitch, he kept his shoulders and arms relaxed. His eyes tracked the ball's trajectory, eyeing the pitcher's release for a fraction of a moment before swinging his arms to slam the bat against the ball. The force of his swing sent it far, towards the backboard. A moment's pause as the spectators, his team, the opposition and even the commentators held their breath to see if the outfielder would make it to the ball fast enough.
The ball slammed into the wall, a loud thud reverberating across the field. Noise flooded back into the stadium rapidly, fans jumping up from their seats to scream in unison with his team. As he took his lap around the bases, a fist raised towards the sky, he let the laugh unfurl and echo into the field. There was a part of him that wanted to shout and exclaim his joy, perhaps due to the influence of a certain loudmouth southpaw.
After all, they were another step closer to the Japan Series. Another step towards bringing them back to the top.
But instead, he allowed his breathing to stabilize as he walked into the bullpen, already removing his helmet and gloves to pass to one of his teammates. He accepted the quiet congratulations of his coach with a characteristic nod, even if the smile on his face was a shade more mischievous than normal.
As he turned towards his bag, reaching in to grab the extra bottle of water, he could feel Youichi staring at his back. Slowly he turned around, putting in extra care to make the turn smoother than he normally would. His eyes raked over the white uniform, the lopsided black hat resting on Youichi's head. The accents of burnished orange only acting to further his belief that Youichi could make any colour work for him. Cackling to himself, his mind went back to the stray thought that had caused his laughing fit initially. A quick glance to his phone told him the relevant date, as well as alerting him of the lack of practice or game. He ignored the curious look Youichi sent towards him, instead turning back towards the game. His homerun had shaken the game up, the rest of his teammates using the momentum to score more runs and widen the gap.
Yomiuri Giants | 8:7 | Hanshin Tigers
The game ended soon enough, the results spoke for themselves, even if it had been a tight finish. They packed up quickly, the bow swift in its function, none of them willing to let their presence transform into pity towards the losing team. As he put away his catcher's gear, with the ease of experience backing up his rapid movement, he could see Youichi patiently waiting for him. Even if neither had ever said anything to the team directly, there was an understanding that after games, both would be glued to each other. As he stood up, Kazuya didn't reach over to grab Youichi's hand, nor did Youichi try to pry the bag off Kazuya's shoulder onto his own. Instead, they showed their attention through the softening of harsh smiles into teasing smirks, the quick shake of a head as one of them prompted the discussion of a meal outside or at home.
When they found themselves in the comfort of their own home, a relief from prying eyes, Kazuya let his walls fall a bit. Both of them dropped their bags onto the ground near the entrance - making a silent promise to deal with them later. Youichi wandered over towards the couch, lying down lazily. Kazuya's own trek towards the kitchen led him through the living room; he took a moment to run his hands through Youichi's hair and tugged on the strands enough to hear a pleased hum. Padding into the kitchen, he started the rice and began pulling out the side dishes he'd prepared the day before. He stood in front of the stove and waited to reheat the curry. When the sound of familiar footsteps entered the kitchen, he could feel himself perk up slightly. A hand came to rest on his lower back, as Youichi stood beside him in their kitchen. They both felt the exhaustion of a well-played game taking hold of them until it was entrenched in their bones. And yet the simple banter that pervaded their relationship was almost as comforting as a good night's rest would be.
Kazuya found himself nodding off, while standing, as he listened to Youichi retell the familiar story of Sawamura's failed attempt at grabbing Nori's attention back when they were in college. If it hadn't been for the beeping of the rice cooker, he would most likely have dozed off there, and by the teasing lilt to Youichi's voice, his momentary slip-up had not been lost. He chuckled tiredly before turning back to take the pot off the gas. His thoughts of reaching around Youichi to grab the plates were interrupted as Youichi spoke again.
"Hey Kazuya, why were you laughing at that last at-bat?" Youichi's voice held the same gruffness it always did after a long day, but to Kazuya it was a soothing balm. Registering the question, he started laughing again and shook off the squawk of confusion before replying.
"It's nothing, I was just wondering if you had anything planned for September 13th?" When he saw Youichi shake his head, he grinned brightly and continued, "do you want to join me for Tsukimi? It's the Mid-Autumn festival this month, so I thought with both of us having a day off, we might?" At the end of his offer, Kazuya's voice had gotten a bit quieter as he felt the nerves creeping up. He had turned away from Youichi to remove the rice from the cooker so he couldn't see his face but the hand that settled in his hair was gentle. The tension in his shoulders melted away.
"Sure, yeah. Ma never did much for Tsukimi so I don't know how much I could help, but of course Kazuya." Youichi's hand continued to run through his hair, scratching at the back of his neck lightly. Kazuya groaned slightly, resisting the urge to slump back onto Youichi's shoulder.
The days passed quickly, Kazuya ruffling through age-old recipes that he had put away a lifetime ago. His hands moved in familiar patterns as he formed the dango, memories of gentle hands wrapping around his as he learnt to form the dango for the first time, a laugh like wind chimes echoing in his head. The soft smile on his mother's face blossoming into a wide grin as his father tried to sneak one out of the kitchen. The teasing beration, as she lightly smacked his shoulder, while Kazuya stood on his stool beside the counter and laughed. The simultaneous ruffle of his hair and kiss pressed to his cheek.
There were tears in his eyes as he stacked the Tsukimi dango, and he could feel tightness in his chest as he laid out the pampas grass on their balcony. Youichi had been suspiciously silent, instead choosing to simply assist where he could - buying the sake and cleaning up after Kazuya's cooking frenzies. But as Kazuya's hand shook placing the last of the food in bowls, Youichi was there to pull him into a tight hug. His fingers grasped the back of Youichi's shirt and he found himself burying his face into the junction between the neck and shoulder. A pained sound threatened to escape his mouth but he managed to repress through brute force. The soothing hand running between his shoulder blades, coupled with the banal utterances in his ear was enough.
He pulled away, a shaky smirk on his lips as he rapidly tried to patch himself up. But when they locked eyes he froze at the look in Youichi's eyes. Anger and concern had given away to a feeling Kazuya could only place as love. A love that made his insides melt into a gooey mess and ended all sarcastic remarks.
He was sure that Sawamura would have cried at their "shoujo" moment.
Youichi's hand came up to cup his cheek, but rather than allowing the touching moment to continue, Kazuya grasped the hand and quickly stood up. Walking the two of them towards the balcony, he held his arm out to display all the hard work he'd done. The full moon shone bright in the sky giving everything a light glow - the food sat carefully on a low table in front of a few blankets and pillows that Kazuya had found. The pampas were displayed around the table, fanning around the sake and cups. Shifting his hand from holding Youichi's wrist, he intertwined their fingers before sitting down. Youichi shifted closer, the both of them pressed thigh-to-thigh and then draped one of the blankets over their laps.
"Ne Youichi, did you know that Tsukimi is actually inspired by the Chinese Tang Dynasty?" His focus was on the sky, watching as the stars bracketing the moon twinkled cheerfully, but he could feel Youichi's eyes on him. Shifting slightly at the intense gaze, Kazuya continued speaking in the same soft tone, "mom used to say that the moon was the reflection of all the good you did each year, so Tsukimi was when we got to see all our hard work in the resplendent full moon."
The squeeze of their intertwined hands brought a smile to his face, a slight blush decorating his face. "This was always her favourite festival, she loved making the dango because my dad loved eating them. But, after she..." he took in a shuddering breath, turning into Youichi's shoulder for a moment before pulling himself away again. "We stopped doing any celebrations, after all, dad and I loved them for her."
Silence permeated the night, not uncomfortable, and not pleasant. It just was.
"Ma, Autumn has always been her favourite season. Chiba always held some harvest festival, so she would take me to go eat takoyaki in the stalls, both of us dressed up." Youichi's voice was light and breezy, eyes shining with happy memories of the past, "Grandpa always complained that he wasn't interested in festivals even though he would come to the rest. I didn't get it when I was little, but he was trying to let us have something, just for us. Mother and son."
Youichi popped one of the dango into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully for a moment before speaking again. "But you know, with Seidou, college, and now the team, I haven't really been back for any Autumn festivals in so long."
Kazuya tensed, nervous about what Youichi was leading up to, but his fears were quickly dashed as Youichi leaned in quickly to press a soft kiss to his cheek. "Doesn't mean I’m opposed to this. The moon, the delicious food, and you." He blushed, and though a smirk valiantly fought to appear on his face, the vermilion betrayed his pleased thoughts. Still, he wouldn't be Kazuya if he didn't respond in some way.
Baring his teeth as his grin widened, Kazuya leaned closer until his face was only centimeters from Youichi's. A wicked glint flashed in his eyes, and when Youichi's breath visibly caught as his tongue dipped out to wet his lips, Kazuya's heart raced. Hands reached up to cup Youichi's face, fingers framing the face he would gladly come home to each night. Pressing their lips together, he savoured the moment with a yearning for more that burned inside him.
The moon beamed down upon them, casting a luscious silvery hue across the entire balcony. A spotlight upon their devotion, a highlight of their love.

Commission work based on the old Milf Mag fics, but now with John as the focus.
“Roxyyyyyy!” John yelled, crying out into the whitespace nothingness he found himself in, “You left your overvoided junk on my desk again! Again, Roxy!”
This wasn’t the first time Roxy had overcharged her void powers and left the results around for John to find. T-shirts, cabinets, boxes of cereal… the common thread between them seemed to be that they were so full of Void that they would try to fill themselves with whoever tried to interact with them. Well, except Roxy, of course. And so John had found himself wearing or trapped inside of various items in ways that ranged from amusing to infuriating.
And this one was definitely the latter. For starters, he couldn’t see shit, and his attempts to wiggle around and punch a hole through the off-white surface before him were being met with so much resistance he could almost swear he wasn’t moving at all.
Where the hell was this? He'd just been trying to clean the place up and hadn't really been watching what he was doing. Had he bumped Roxy's mattress and gotten stuck inside that thing? It would explain the whiteness, and maybe how restricted his movements felt, and the surface he was up against certainly felt like fabric, but something about it just didn't feel right.
 But before John could put any more thought into his situation, a familiar voice came ringing out in a very familiar tone, "Oh Joooooohn... you hooooome~?"
The slight purr in her voice was unmistakable. Roxy was horny as fuck. Scooooooore!
As long as Roxy doesn't laugh at his situation so much that she kills the mood. But even with that in mind, John needed her help, so he let out what he hoped was a manly plea for assistance.
"....!"
W... Why couldn't he speak? He was speaking before, right? But now it felt like he couldn't even move his mouth! That was bad! He tried his hardest to kick and flail for attention, but again his entire body felt rigid and unmoving.
John could hear Roxy approach, but it didn't seem like she could see his attempts to wiggle for attention, "Boy Howdy I sure do feel like getting fucked by a strapping young lad and his big ol' donger!" Roxy called with absolutely no attempt to make it sound erotic. Damn, she knew just how to push his buttons!
"Haaaah... Oh wellllll." Went Roxy, and John felt the surface below him move as he heard the sounds of blankets being tossed abouy above him. But just as it seemed like his mattress theory was about to be confirmed, John suddenly saw everything in front of him suddenly moving in one great big blur of colour.
 "...!!"
He'd meant to say 'Roxy', but once again his voice failed him.
Where the hell could be possibly be that would allow him to see Roxy perfectly, while unable to be seen in turn? And, more importantly, why did it make her look so HUGE?
He watched nervously as Roxy slowly slipped herself under the covers, bringing her hand up to her mouth to give her finger a lick. Even John's face felt weirdly restricted as he tried to raise his eyebrow in confusion, but thay confusion didn't last much longer as her she reached out towards him and pressed her finger on the side of his face. He was glad he still had his glasses on to protect his eyes, as her massive finger squished right up against his face, adhering him to her as she gave her hand a flick.
John knew that weird habit of hers. Roxy was reading! She always found it a little gross when she read like that, but it was far worse when it was being pressed right into his face.
He just hoped this was a good book!
 As the page fell, John's eyes were treated to an entirely new world. He could still see Roxy in his peripheral vision, but now he was looking out towards what looked like some kind of black-and-white college campus... was he in a manga? Did he look like a handsome anime boy right now? No, that was a dumb thought! He needed to get his ass back into the real world!
"Roxy!" He called, relieved that he could talk again, "I'm in here! You left your stuff full of void again!"
Roxy did not respond, instead turning her head away from him. John's attempt to cry out 'noooooo!' silenced like his earlier attempts at talking. Fortunately, a sudden shift in his perspective granted him a chance to learn why. Once again he was facing outward, and he could just barely see himself on the opposite page, a pair of speech bubbles filled to the brim with text, though there was something decidedly off about the text that John just couldn't quite make out from this angle.
At least he seemed to have another speech bubble in this panel, and he quickly made his plea, "Rox! I'm stuck in this dumb book, you--"
B'DONK!
John felt a sudden pain in the side of his head as his perspective shifted again. His vision was skewed as one of his eyeballs felt like it shrunk and the other grew, and he could see action lines all around himself.
"My apologies, John-kun."
John felt like he was falling, his feet weren’t even touching the floor… no, they didn’t even seem to exist right now, as his waist eventually gave way to whiteness as it reached what must have been the edge of the page. But that wasn’t what his character was paying attention to at all, for it seemed that he was stuck in a panel where he was looking up at a tall, handsome anime fella… and blushing so much his face felt like it was cooking.
“Th-Th-Thank you?” He stuttered, even though he didn’t really feel like he should’ve been stuttering at all. It would be kind of ridiculous to be nervous about this encounter, this guy wasn’t real! He was fictional! Though… he was holding onto John with an arm around his back while their hands touched. Kind of a weird way to stop someone from falling, it didn’t even feel like a pose they could’ve gotten into from how they bonked heads. All the while, he could hear Roxy giggling.
Yeeeeeah, John had a pretty good idea what kind of story this was now, “Roxy! I don’t wanna be a part of your stupid dumb yaoi manga!” He cried, albeit now he was in a new panel where he was standing up incredibly straight, and could feel puffs of steam coming out of his ears. It wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, but he really hoped she’d turn the page soon, “I’m not even gay, Roxy!”
John’s comment apparently fell on deaf ears, as once again Roxy licked her finger and flicked the page over. He was sitting now. Great, a classroom scene. What thing was he in for here? Once again he couldn’t talk, it must have been an establishing shot, but he very quickly transitioned into the next scene, with him staring at the door at… he wanted to sigh… ‘senpai’. That handsome man was walking into room, absolutely surrounded by sparkles and flowers and rose petals.
“Oh, John-kun. I didn’t realise you were taking this class.” He said, though it was weird, because he didn’t exactly have a voice, yet John always had odd memories of him speaking, “Try not to be too naughty, okay?”
Roxy giggled. John just grumbled back, “You… do know I’m not a homosexual, right?” He asked, hoping his sarcasm would be properly conveyed. Goddammit he wished he could half-lid his eyes right now, but instead they were wide open and staring. Worse, it felt like his heart was racing in his chest. He could just barely make out lines on the side of his chest, just over his heart. Why did Roxy have to be into this stupid romantic shoujo bullshit?
John felt his scene transition again, and found a chance to speak as his ‘senpai’ took a seat next to him, “Look… You’re probably not even real, but I’m just waiting for my girlfriend to--" But John was suddenly interrupted as Roxy turned over the page, and he found himself staring face to face with senpai, uncomfortably close to his big, round eyes, “W-Woah, h-hey! You seem nice and a-all… f-fucking, this stuttering isn’t me! I-I’m just flustered because I’m being drawn this way!”
No response. John had to imagine that the guy was stuck saying whatever the original script said, just with John’s name replacing whatever the original protagonist’s name was. But even though he wasn’t talking, and John’s attempts to speak were being prevented, the two lingered on for several more panels, just staring at one-another as John began to notice more and more details in his eyes. Though with every extra line and sparkle added to his irises, John felt more and more of himself being cut away. It didn’t hurt, but he kept feeling less and less of himself, chopped away by the panel border and leaving him as just a disembodied head… then face… then eye. It was a good thing he was already drawn with shuddering lines, because that’s exactly what he wanted to do.
Smooch!
And then once again John and his character matched perfectly. His eyes widened in shock as senpai’s lips met his. His entire face felt warm again, steam emitting from all sides as his glasses comically cracked. He wanted to scream at Roxy, to tell her to turn the page, because he was stuck feeling so many over-the-top emotions that he couldn’t even pinpoint them all! But no, Roxy just seemed enamoured with the scene. From the corner of his eye John could see Roxy’s excited face, and while normally that’d be enough to make him instantly forgive all her crimes, right now he just wanted out of the kiss, and out of the book!
 Thankfully, John eventually got his wish. In fact, Roxy was even kind enough to skip over a few pages, which John was sure had character development galore. As Roxy flicked through, John tried to find relief from the extreme sensations he’d felt, though it was made a bit hard as John was occasionally made to spend a few seconds or more stuck in odd positions, such as underneath senpai’s desk, ostensibly reaching for a pencil, only to instead notice a… uh… SIZEABLE bulge in the dude’s pants. It even had extra lines to emphasize just how big it was! God, why did he have to be dating a pervert? …And why was that pervert spending so long on this one panel! Big dicks had no appeal to him, except maybe in the hypothetical world where he had one himself!
“Mmmmmngh…” Roxy groaned, and John recognised the sound. Wow. That girl gets herself horny super easily, he thought. It seemed like she was turned on by the mere idea of handsome anime dick. He wished real dick had the same effect on her, that’d be fun.
The fun of imagining that idea proved an entertaining distraction, so distracting, in fact, that John didn’t even notice the subtle differences in the scene transition. No longer was he just staring at the guy’s cock… he was grabbing it!
“Goddammit Roxy!” He shouted, mentally slapping himself as he realised that he’d wasted the panel’s only text box.
“J-John-kun…” Went senpai, the next panel making John want to wretch as he saw a close up of his own hand pulling down that zipper. A feeling made worse when he realised he couldn’t even feel his own head in that shot, just a disembodied hand.
Aaaaand fwlomp! An absolutely massive cock fell out of senpai’s pants, and slapped itself down on John’s face, some unscrupulous fluids already trickling down onto his brow. “Gross gross gross gross gross groooooss… I-I hate dick!” He cried, desperate to pull away or push the thing off his face.
“Hee… hah…” Roxy giggled a bit as she panted. Her body and the entire world John was in were bouncing around. She was masturbating, and this was hentai. That realisation might have been more devastating to John if not for the fact he was already bringing the uncensored cock down to his lips, his pursed lips pressing against it and forcing him to taste the salty bitterness of pre-cum.
“Turn the page, Roxy, oh please, turn the page!” John cried, not sure how his character was meant to be talking right now, but he didn’t care, he just wanted to NOT be doing the gay thing right now and--
“HRRRCK!” John’s throat was static, but the sensation of constantly trying to force out some ten inches of manmeat from his gullet was constant. It was like he was permanently at the most intense part of having his gag reflex triggered, trying to push out the thing in his throat, even though he never could.
“Wow… John-kun… your throat is truly special…” Senpai sighed, his crotch squashed up against John’s nose.
“Mmnnn… Nnnngh…” For a moment John had thought senpai was the one moaning, until he realised that the sounds were coming from Roxy! “Nnnghh… c-cock’s too small…” She whined. John wanted to roll his eyes, this thing was already making his eyes roll back, both in the art and mentally, so calling it too small was ridiculous.
…Or it would have been, had Roxy not shown John just how big a cock could really get by bringing out a pen and adding in several crude lines in several quick strokes. What had been a small bump in his throat was now as wide as the rest of his neck, and he was made to feel the cock inside of him suddenly bloat up to match, even if it didn’t quite match with its width in his mouth. And then she made sure to go the extra mile by adding in a ballooned out belly, which was made to feel like it was rumbling and sloshing about as Roxy’s hand was made unsteady by her own pleasure.
If John wasn’t just a drawing right now, there was no way he could’ve survived all that, especially not with Roxy keeping her eyes on the panel for a minute straight as she played around with herself beneath the sheets.
When she finally moved on and John was finally moved on to a scene that was merely humiliating, he almost felt like he was in heaven.
“S-Sorry, John-kun… please take my semen bath…” Came Senpai’s melodic, weirdly disembodied voice.
“D-D-Don’t mention it.” John stuttered, this time not because of the character, “J-Just don’t, nngh… t-tell my girlfriend…” He joked, completely and utterly dazed after that last experience.
“No… John-kun… I want you to understand…” Senpai said, leaning in close to give John an unexpected hug, one that he desperately needed after the foot-wide cock he’d just had in his throat, “I… I love you.”
“S-Senpai, th-that’s…” John gasped, feeling his blush get intense again, “th-that’s ridiculous… y… you’re fictional and also not really my type. I-I’m just not… i-interested in--”
“BOH-RING!” Roxy chimed, and gave the page another few flicks. John braced himself for the worst as he prepared himself for something horrible.
“MNNNNNNYAAAARGH!” He screeched. Yep, there was something in his ass! He could feel senpai’s body over his, clutching him in a weirdly protective way, but it wasn’t enough to distract from the sheer pain of his virgin asshole being filled with a ten inch cock!
Or… oh no… “R-Roxy… please… I-I’m not gay… p-please don’t make him bigger again… p-please!” He begged, feeling as Roxy’s pen pressed into his skin, and started to drift upwards. It didn’t feel of anything, not yet. It was still just a line for now, but then she drifted to the side, adding in some bumps here and there before making her way back down again. The moment her pen was off the paper, John felt like he was going to burst, for Roxy had just added a cock-shaped bulge to his stomach that reached up almost all the way to his chin, made to feel even bigger thanks to the poor perspective on Roxy’s art.
“J-John-kun… t-tell me you love me…” Came senpai’s soothing voice, not that John cared over the overwhelming sensations of feeling himself being so ludicrously penetrated. Roxy even had to humiliate him by adding tiny little spurts of his own cum shooting out of his dick. It was a merciful relief, but it only pushed the problem further by adding yet more overwhelming sensations to the mix!
John was trapped in the middle of the most intense and yet pathetic orgasm he’d had in his life. He’d never cum from something like this before, his poor prostate the victim of two or more feet of leg-thick cock. It made it hard to think, and all he could do was try to focus on the sense of his own ridiculous pleasure to block out the sensation of being stretched to the extremes.
“Hnggghaaaaaawwh!”
John momentarily felt hopeful. Roxy’s orgasm squeal was unmistakeable. But the idea she’d free him from this mess was dashed as she watched Roxy’s body teeter about, the girl attempting to put the comic away, but instead just leaving it down on her pillow, her head landing on one page as John endured his fate on the one next to it.
How could things get worse than this?
“SNOOOOOORE!”
That was how. With a great big inhale, Roxy pulled the pages up onto her face, skipping back a few pages.
“S-Sorry, John-kun… please take my semen bath…”
John gagged as he once again felt copious amounts of spunk all over him, this time properly tasting the semen in his mouth that he’d not really noticed when coming off the heels of having his throat stuffed.
“Wow… John-kun… your throat is truly special…”
The feeling of his ridiculously overstretched throat was back! His big, rumbly belly made things feel like they were shaking, which only made things worse!
“No… John-kun… I want you to understand… I… I love you!”
Momentary comfort for John as he relived the hug, but only for a split second as Roxy began to exhale, flipping the pages all the way back to where they had just been.
“J-John-kun… t-tell me you love me…”
Senpai’s ridiculous cock was back inside John, and John was once again struck with an orgasm, or rather returned to one already in progress. It all happened so suddenly… from overfull asshole to an overfull throat and back again, and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it but be happy that he at least got some momentary relief.
“SNORE!”
“Wow… John-kun… your throat is truly special.”
Back to choking…
“J-John-kun… t-tell me you love me.”
Back to cumming…
“S-Sorry John-kun… please take my semen bath…”
Back to being made into his senpai’s cumdump…
“SNORE!”
“Wow… John-kun…”
Throat. Again.
“SNORE!”
“T-Tell me you love me.”
There was no pattern to it. John was subject to the whim’s of Roxy’s snores. All he could do was look forward to his next orgasm. …And the occasional comforting hugs of his senpai.
“I-I do love you… senpai…”
  “Grubble Translate”
Roxy took a few intermittent snaps of the comic as she settled down in front of her laptop. Sure, she could spawn a yaoi doujin out of thin air, but apparently she was just straining causality a little too far to try and get one in English.

My Life Is Very Shoujo Manga, Chapter 43: Strong first impressions
A new beginner course started sometime around March in 2015. This officially meant two things:
I was no longer a “beginner”; and
There were new beginners (or as the seniors would jokingly refer to them, “fresh meat”) joining the club.
Since we had separate trainings, it was hard to get to know them until the whole club had dinners together after each day of the Shield Competition. Very early on, out of that beginner group, I had a strong impression of two girls in particular.
One girl, on first impression, was so sweet, bubbly and charming; her presence glowed like sunshine. Gwyn really stood out to me for some reason; I couldn't resist coming up to her, with her young and radiant face, cute smile, full cheeks and very curly hair, and pinching her cheeks.
"Oh my gosh,” I stretched her cheeks. “How can you be so cute?!” It was like love at first sight!
"G-ganglord?" she looked up at me with her big, round, dark brown eyes.
"I- who told you..?"
~~~
Then there was this other girl, who was probably lovely too, I thought at the time, but she had an energy I knew I wouldn’t click with...
Whilst generally, one’s first impression of someone should not be taken as the most accurate representation of who someone truly is as person, and I am open to giving people second chances, I can tell quite early whether I’ll get along with someone.
I try not to let that first impression prevent me from getting to know people on beyond a superficial level. But so far, I have never been incorrect about my instincts about someone.
Frank, Mal and I were sitting around were sitting around a table in a more quiet and peaceful part of the party, at the BBQ Fukuda sensei hosted in his backyard. We were talking about how the intermediate course was going, or something where I remember being something a third-party wouldn't be able to contribute, when this girl-- let’s call her... Xandra, loudly and quite abruptly, butted into our conversation.
“Oh YEAH, totallyyy!” She shouted for some reason, in reply to whatever Frank had just said. We looked at her a little uncomfortably and tried to accommodate her into our conversation. “Xandra, by the way!”
“Hi Xandra... This is Frank, Mallory. I’m Amanda. How are you finding the beginner’s course so far? Are you... um, getting along with the other beginners?” It was hard to know what to say to her.
“Yeah, it’s so great! I’m having so much fun so far. Like, kendo comes so naturally to me, for some reason! I don’t know why I...” The worst part was she would say things that came across passionate, but delivered in a really lazy way as if she were trying to act uninterested and casual.
Then she began to talk endlessly about herself, while neither of us were sure what the right reaction was. Girl came in with sooo much energy and clearly could not read a room.
“Oh MY god, like, you guys... You guys are so cool! Like, I never, never usually click with people this fast. You guys are so chill--”
I tried to be understanding and forgiving of her first faux pas... Especially since we were at a party, and she was new and didn’t know everyone there (and perhaps she might have been a tad drunk as well, or at least pretending to so she wouldn’t feel as embarrassed talking to us.) Any of those things seemed understandable.
But as I listened and tried to be polite and accommodating, I felt my energy drain. Xandra had this mismatched energy which exhausted me...
It felt like she overcompensated for her likeability by acting overconfident, which instead of making her relatable, made her the opposite. Whilst it was pretty obvious to me we wouldn't vibe, I tried to stay open-minded whilst keeping my distance from her as much as I could.
The problem would be, for the next few years until recently, that for some reason, despite trying not to be her space, she would continue to appear in mine...
The Frienships of Fandom
I already made a post about my thoughts on the final FT chapter and Gruvia. So, this post is a far more personal story that couldn’t have happened without Gruvia. Others have already spoken about the friends they made because of this series. Well, I wanted to do that, too, but because it’s me, it’s going to be ridiculously long. ^_~
First, a history lesson.
I started shipping Gruvia around 2011, and started getting into the fandom in 2012. That’s the first time I posted on a forum about Gruvia, and that was in the general shipping thread on Manga Fox (it was before shipping had it’s own sub forum there). I wasn’t a frequent poster (I went by the name Ramblria, which I think suited me lol), but I did lurk a lot, and I eventually started lurking on Tumblr a lot more, too. I remember being so happy with all the fan content being generated on Tumblr after Gray and Juvia had their unison raid of love. The gruvia tag was always active, positive, and fun.
When the shipping sub forum was finally created on Manga Fox, I eventually started posting in Gruvia’s thread during 2013. That’s when I met rieriebee, who was known as Darkhope over there. I knew her on Tumblr, too, because she created the amazing Gruvia Manifesto. We instantly bonded over Gruvia on Manga Fox. I think the pair of us created at least 80% of the content in that thread by throwing essay-sized posts at each other lmao. Rieriebee eventually asked me if I had Skype. I did not at the time, and evaded her requests to get it, because I was a pretty introverted, socially anxious person, and the idea of chatting with her verbally or on video seemed positively terrifying to me lmao.
Months and months passed, and it was now the summer of 2014. I was becoming a lot more active on Tumblr and Rieriebee reached out to me again. I knew at this point that she lived in the same place as I did, NY, and it made me even more anxious to speak to her, because I was worried she might want to meet once she found out that fact. But, having spoken to her for so long at that point, I felt like I already knew her. So, I took a chance, and got Skype at last, and we talked. And, lo and behold, she wanted to meet, and that’s exactly what we did. She brought her 413 Days magazine and I brought my gruvia plushies, and we’ve been best friends ever since.
Tumblr media
Rieriebee, also known as Marie, is nearly the exact opposite of the type of person I am lmao. She’s very extroverted, bubbly, brave, energetic, blunt, but also super friendly and inviting. Marie is very much “the more people, the merrier” kind of person, and without that trait I wouldn’t have many of the friendships that I currently do. But, among all the differences, we also had something very special in common with each other. Just like on Manga Fox, we could talk Gruvia until the sun went down (and many times we did).
Honestly, I don’t know anyone who I could talk to about fandom as passionately as I can with Marie. She’s my favorite person to share a fanfic idea or headcanon with, because she always gives the best reactions, and is very supportive. I also don’t know anyone who would put up with talking to me about fandom as long as I do with Marie haha. We’ve joked recently that our phone convos are not complete unless we’ve reached our three-hour mark.
Gruvia brought us together, but really, Marie brought us together, and we stayed together, because we quickly went from fandom friends to real friends. If Marie didn’t persist in trying to talk to me, even though I was so shy, I wouldn’t have met such an amazing person, and I certainly wouldn’t have continued to meet more amazing people.
One of those people was kanarenee, also known as Crystal. Marie and Crystal had known each other since 2006, as they were both huge Naruto fans. They kind of lost touch over the years, but Gruvia reconnected them again. Crystal contacted Marie, and Marie introduced her to me via Skype. Crystal and I’s first Skype chat  was kind of funny, because the second I saw her, I recognized her immediately, because she had linked a video of herself on Tumblr months earlier, where she had fangirled over the “I’m here with you” moment in 366. I liked that video a lot, because I agreed with it, but also because I’d never seen anyone make a video just to discuss the gruvia parts of a chapter. That made the video, and Crystal herself very memorable to me. She seemed like someone I’d like to be friends with.
Tumblr media
Suffice it to say, Crystal and I bonded very quickly. Crystal, too, was quite bubbly, passionate, imaginative, kind, and inquisitive. We had a lot of interests in common including writing, books, a love for the Final Fantasy VII universe, super heroes, Game Of Thrones, and a variety of other random things that our Skype chats always devolved into haha. We, too, could easily Skype chat for hours (and we did, and do, many a time), going from Gruvia to anything and everything in between. We also shared a favorite character in common, and that was Juvia. We always had the same opinions, wants and needs for her character. I still remember when our one-on-one chat would just be the two of us throwing Gruvia headcanons at each other. It was glorious and effortless, and I instantly adored her.
It didn’t take long before the three of us formed a little group, and started The Gruvia Podcast together in December 2014 which we followed early the next year with a special video version.
Now, I’m going to take a slight detour, to introduce another of my close friends darkdreamerx, also known as Brittany. Brittany is Marie’s best friend, and we were essentially introduced on twitter. We had already been following each other on Tumblr without realizing. We both loved Nalu and Gruvia, and we ended up having our first meeting at the Kinokuniya bookstore. It was a few weeks after my birthday at that point, and I’ll never forget going into a little tourist shop, and Brittany pretending she was looking for a gift for her friend, asking my opinion on which keychain I thought was best, only so she could surprise me with it right afterwards as a gift. I’d known her a total of a few hours, and yet she still gave me a present for my birthday. That’s Brittany. She’s sweet, generous, fun, loving, and adventurous.
Tumblr media
We bonded over FT, but Brittany is a shoujo queen. Two of my most favorite series ever, Kamisama Hajimemashita and Akatsuki No Yona are ones I would never even have heard about if not for her. But our get-togethers span beyond just anime and manga. We’ve had so many good times over the last few years. We’ve gotten wonderfully (and terrifyingly lmao) lost in the city, sat in watching ridiculous fantasy movies, had sleepovers, danced to Brazilian Jazz, and been together for Christmas eve eve. I know we’ll continue to have a great friendship for many years to come.
Tumblr media
Now I’m going to talk about a Doosh. The dooshiedoosh, also known as Kat. She easily wins the best Tumblr username around, and don’t even try to look for a better one, because you won’t find it. Kat just naturally became friends with Marie, Crystal and I via Tumblr and twitter. I, personally, could not resist her wit, charm, intelligence, understanding and patient personality. Kat is very chill, but also knows what the fuck she is talking about, so don’t mess with her. She’s a psychologist by day, and super mom and wife by night!
Tumblr media
Marie and I have been to see Kat in Maryland so many times at this point, that we are practically honorary residents in her home (which is also the home of our drunk podcast). Her husband and daughter, who are also FT fans, have always been nothing but welcoming over the years, even though the three of us together means unbridled fangirling will surely occur. But they always understand and kindly tolerate it all. Going back to Kat herself, I admire how knowledgeable and pragmatic she is. I always appreciate her lending an ear whenever I need to talk. A true friend through and through.
Tumblr media
Once our four-some was formed, we were unstoppable in our love for each other and Gruvia. Which soon led us to our first big adventure together. We made plans to visit Crystal in Colorado, and dubbed the upcoming trip Gruvicon! This trip was to take place the summer of 2015. However, it hit a few snags along the way. Crystal was having some financial difficulties after her husband had gotten sick with diabetes. She was not sure if she could afford the trip any longer with us coming to visit her. Thankfully, things worked out with a lot of help from a now dear friend, but I’ll get back to that later.
As for me, my grandmother, who I had been very close to, had fallen critically ill less than two weeks before I was to leave on the trip. I was horribly torn, hoping that she’d get well somehow, so I wouldn’t have to make a painful choice either way. If not for Marie, Crystal and Kat, I don’t know how I would have coped with everything going on at that time. Sadly, my grandmother did eventually pass away the weekend before the trip. I debated whether to take the trip at all, but ultimately decided that I’d just be miserable at home. I wanted to escape. I wanted a distraction. I wanted to be with my friends. So, that’s what I did. Marie and I boarded a plane in NY, while Kat boarded a plane in Maryland, and we headed to meet Crystal in Colorado for our first adventure together!
What followed was an amazing experience. We all just clicked immediately. I felt like I’d known these ladies all my life. The very next day we all hopped in Crystal’s awesomely green car (aka The Avocado), and we headed on a road trip down to the four corners with a few stops along the way. We visited New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and returned to throughly explore Colorado. Our time together was so fun, and we never got sick of each other. We also made sure to make another video podcast now that we were all finally together.
However, this is not just when our own adventures were born, but Gruvia’s plushie adventures as well. The idea was originally Kat’s. She mentioned how Nasa has a mascot in the form of a rubber chicken, and suggested we use the Gray and Juvia plushies I made (and that Mashima retweeted) as our own mascots, and take pictures of them during the trip, as a way to share our vacation with the fandom. We instantly all loved the idea, and it’s become a fun side project throughout our visits to each other over the years.
Tumblr media
But this was only the first big adventure. The next time we all met up again there were a whole bunch of other plushies, and a new friend! As I had said, Crystal was having financial issues. Kat, Marie and I all helped out with what we could, but one of our podcast listeners and fellow Gruvia fan reached out to lend a huge helping hand. tea-lief, also known as Whitney, donated money to Crystal to help out with her husband’s medical bills and other expenses. If not for that, our first Gruvicon might have run into serious issues.
Whitney is an incredibly kind-hearted, generous, empathetic, optimistic and caring person. During our first trip to Colorado, I was shocked a stranger online was so quick to help out in such a big way. But, now, after being friends with Whitney these last two years, I’m no longer surprised, because that’s just the kind of person she is. She is always thinking of others before herself. And while her acts of kindness no longer shock me, I’m still always touched whenever she does something out of consideration for someone else.
Tumblr media
I can also relate a lot to Whitney. We are both a bit anxious and unsure of ourselves. But I can tell you, she needn’t be, because she is so very talented. Her art constantly blows me away. She’s always been a great artist, but she’s also constantly growing and improving, with each new art piece she creates becoming my new favorite of hers. She’s also incredibly supportive. I know if there’s a new note on Tumblr from her on my posts it’s bound to be filled with encouraging responses or tags that make me glow with happiness.
Backtracking a bit, as Crystal got to know Whitney better, she introduced us via our chat, and we all became fast friends. The next time we decided to meet again, Whitney joined Kat and Crystal as they headed on their separate ways to NY to visit Marie and I for Gruvicon 2016! We had to make another video podcast at my home this time during their visit, and of course the plushie adventures also continued!
Since then I’ve hung out with Marie and Brittany on a regular basis. I’ve gone with Marie to see Kat in Maryland countless times. Crystal has since moved down to Texas, where Whitney is, and I recently went to visit them both this past June. And just this last weekend Kat drove up from Maryland to celebrate canon with Marie and I in Long Island.
And this is just a small list of some of the people I’ve gotten to meet and become friends with over the last several years. Sarapyon, chanting-to-u, shir0usagi, bonneyq, thatsvichan, corxavis, Unisonraidd, canyoudigitmotherlicker, honeyteacake, and madaniss are also all lovely people I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know better/meet and/or chat with, and I’m so grateful for those opportunities.
And none of these friendships would have been possible without Gruvia. They all ultimately blossomed from that shared interest. Yes, they are just fictional characters in a fictional relationship, but the relationships with the wonderful people above are real and lasting. I love you guys so much. Thank you for making these last several years such an incredible rollercoaster experience. We’ve had our ups, our downs, and everything in between. But I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. <3
