...Sarevok describes the Throne of Blood as having a dying/dead sun - red giant phase? (or there was something in some Bhaalist scripture somewhere about the sun dying at the end of all things. Or was it Amelyssan?) and I didn't question that, and now it's run a loop and smashed back into my conscious brain:
HOW do they have this information? I am pretty sure they shouldn't have this grasp of physics. Basic modern Earth levels of science is not on the average Faerûnian's school curriculum. Scientists in the Realms are still bickering about the planar model, who has time for space? The churches still control science and philosophy (and aforementioned average school curriculum), the whole "Realmspace" - not a term actually used on Toril - is an actual physical place we can build spelljammers and go out and explore is a thing, and under discussion, but still pretty underdeveloped as a field. They know travelling through space is possible, but space as space, the way we think of it, and not something about the gods and other planes of existence, not so much.
It's probably just writer knowledge and in-universe knowledge just kind of getting handwaved, but I'm still amused.
I guess Bhaalists just have an insanely advanced grasp of astrophysics by High Fantasy standards, and they're not sharing with the rest of Toril? Bhaal became a god, learned about astrophysics and then decided the most important thing to teach his followers is the solar life cycle: Literally nothing escapes death, including the universe.
Vampires vs the sun comes up as a party discussion:
Durge, not looking up from their book: Relax, the sun'll be dead in a few billion years anyway.
The party: The sun will what now.
(Jergal just nods. Yep, that is a thing which will happen and which he is personally looking forward to.)
