You know, with what the Fullbringers imply, and White (the Hollow), and even Metastacia, with the name referring to metastasis, I think it would have been better if Hollow reiatsu wasn't immediately toxic/deadly to Quincy, but rather infectious.
Like maybe due to their ability to constantly draw in spirit particles to fuel their powers, Quincy are particularly susceptible to the corrupting influence of Hollow reiatsu. Spend too long fighting a Hollow, and suddenly you start developing a mask.
So this would explain how Quilge was able to absorb Ayon seemingly with no ill-effect, but then incorporated parts of Ayon's anatomy into his Vollstandig, including a mask. You could also argue he became more violent and hot-headed after the absorption took place.
Perhaps if the fight took longer, Quilge would have eventually turned into Ayon.
So if a Quincy stole a Resureccion like Fornicaras and actually tried using it, given what releasing a Resureccion actually entails, that Quincy ends up transforming permanently into another parasite worm-butterfly thing, with presumably of all of Szayel's charm and sunny personality.
So imagine, in the fight against Cang Du, instead of Daiguren Hyōrinmaru breaking off a wing in a splatter of blood, it slowly starts absorbing/taking over Cang Du.
By the time Cang Du realizes what's happening, it's too late, and Hitsugaya ends the battle in an unconventional way: he reseals Daiguren Hyōrinmaru.

The Zanpakutō Arc is my favourite arc of the anime.
Really weird pick, I know. But when I saw it for the first time when I was much younger I loved all the cool spirits, I’ve always been super in love with the concept of Zanpakutō and getting a look into what the spirits are for everyone was so cool.
When I rewatched the Arc, I realized that I still very much love the arc, but for different reasons. Namely, the Antagonist, Muramasa. I love his motives, how he goes about stuff and his character. He might be my favourite character in all of Bleach and this is a filler arc.
But as much as I realized my love for the antagonist, I noticed that the stories of the Zanpakutō Spirits, as well as the designs and what they’re like seemed... Very lacklustre. I get that it’s filler and character development or anything isn’t allowed but.. oof.
This turned out rather long so the rest is under the cut, including Kazeshini mini-makeover!
So one day, I wanna rewrite that Arc and give it as much love as it deserves. Kind of a passion project that would take a shit ton of work, but the end product would be something I could not only enjoy and share, but look back on fondly for a very long time.
When/if I do that there’s a few things I wanna do for it.
We’re gonna play by AEIWAM (by @gallusrostromegallus, go look at the tag) rules.
Bleach without mods is very hard to play after having experienced Aeiwam and I can’t go back anymore.
This would very much be just me joining the bandwagon of creators playing in Gallus’ sandbox of wonder, but Aeiwam is what got me back into Bleach and the world building is too gooddddd. So, Zanpakutō Arc would once again be more of a filler (though Gallus if you find anything in it that you like please feel free to pick and choose if I ever manage to write this)
The Spirits need some serious make overs.
While some designs are cool, others are kind of uninspired and really do feel like filler. Some of the personalities are stereotypes pretending to be characters. The whole Haineko, Tobiume, Hyōrinmaru love triangle was kinda weird imho. Stuff like, just put a bit more autistic special interest spice in it, make it more funky. Spend actual quality time on the Zanpakutō spirits, their appearance, their characters and their relationships. Have more funky things like Itegumo the Avalanche (Courtesy of @gallusrostromegalus). Spirits like Hōzukimaru and Ruriirokujaku would are prime candidates f.E.
3. Muramasa deserves better.
For real. Did not deserve to turn into glitter after breaking himself over and over for his Shinigami. Absolute Love and Loyalty met with nothing but hatred. The guy stabbed him and broke the sword and Muramasa was still nothing but loyal.
Fun Fact: Maegawa's first appearance was in a story we later called Zanpakutō Stories: Stockholm Syndrome. Very good time.
Her powers were made specifically to be able to save him from death by getting the hollows out of him without hurting him.
Her name is a bit of a wordplay. Asahi, the morning sun of a new day. And especially Maegawa. Muramasa expresses multiple times to his Shinigami to leave behind the past and look forward. To move forward. Together.
Maegawa, roughly translated: forward river. Pretty on the nose, but I couldn't resist
Actual cool stories between Zanpakutō and Shinigami.
The conclusion of almost all sub stories between Shinigami and Sword Spirits was kind of a let down. The arc started strong in that regard, but then everyone broke swords left and right and they fixed it at the end with Mayuri Special Clown Magic. The premise of losing your powers forever if you kill your Zanpakutō Spirit was very cool but eventually ignored and even subverted by the Shinigami starting to purposefully destroying the swords halfway through.
It would be a lot cooler if instead of just defeating them in battle everyone has to properly engage their Zanpakutō spirit and work out whatever gripes Muramasa has drawn out and strengthened.
In that same vein, here’s an example I was pondering for this arc. A prime suspect of both ?? Design and very very unsatisfying story conclusion:
Kazeshini
The design was always really out of left field for me. A rude, battle-hungry being of slaughter with random cloth for decency and a vaguely scythe like haircut.
...And that’s... Shūhei’s Zanpakutō spirit? Shūhei from the 9th? Who doesn’t particularly enjoy bloodshed, is always ready to help others out and though trying to be edgy is actually very much a goof? That Shūhei?
That never really clicked with me.
I mean maybe it’s implied violent tendencies or some random blood thirst deep down but I never felt like we really had any proof for that with Shūhei himself. Though it might’ve very well have gone r/whoosh. I struggle retaining all the information sometimes.
But then I had a fun little thought.
At his very core, I feel like Hisagi is someone whose just intrinsically helpful. He wants to help, to do whatever he can and to prove himself to others.
He puts on a tough front and some people fall for it, but he’s actually extremely kind-hearted and a very hard worker.
Why would his Zanpakutō spirit not share that trait? The trait that’s at his very core.
Slaughter Demon Kazeshini is a front. A tough looking exterior from a Zanpakutō spirit that really just wants to help its Shinigami with all its heart.
The moment I saw Shūhei’s Shikai for the first time I actually had to think of Naruto for a moment. And when I pondered what those scythes might actually look like my thoughts returned to that thought: Kamaitachi.
("Kamaitachi" (鎌鼬) from the Kyōka Hyaku Monogatari by Masasumi Ryūkansaijin)
Kamaitachi are yōkai that resemble weasels with scythe-like front claws riding on dust storms. Now the version I’ve sketched is a ferret because I can’t keep my wiggly guys apart apparently, but also has the scythes more ferret-forearm-area. But Kamaitachi were the inspiration.
So this little guy is giddy as all hells when the Shikai first happens. Finally he can help his shinigami!! He’ll do his best and they’ll be so cool together and-
Shūhei looks at his blades in a mix of shock and repulsion. “They look like they reap life itself”
He hates his shikai.
Kazeshini is distraught. Why..? Why the hatred for their blades? Fear? He doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know _how to help_. But he wants to help! He needs to help!
And then he gets an idea.
He needs Shūhei to hate _him_. Not the blades. He needs Shūhei to be stubborn, to use these blades and become stronger.
So Kazeshini comes up with a plan. Shūhei doesn’t know his true form yet. He hasn’t seen the little ferret trying so hard to be a sword spirit he can rely on. And then Kazeshini does what he learned from Shūhei.
He puts on a front.
And that front is the rude Slaughter Demon Kazeshini, who never fails to infuriate Shūhei, to infuriate him to want to become stronger. To get Shūhei to show him that his blades can be used for more than death.
Their Zanpakutō Arc story would be this little communication disaster falling in on itself and Shūhei finally seeing Kazeshini for what he really is and coming to terms with the blades (and himself in a way)
(The initial idea was that Kazeshini sees Hisagi's hatred for a part of himself (Hisagi hating Hisagi I mean) made manifest in the blades and decides to redirect Hisagi's hatred against his own soul toward itself to protect him, but since Zanpakutō spirits in Aeiwam work a little different I thought I'll need that overhaul that a little hehe)
But yeah, there we have it. This has been steeping in my brain soup for a very long time. But I really need to finish Maegawa Backstory before I start anything else haha

Time for the next Zanpakutō spirit! 🎉 Hyōrinmaru has been such a high standing point in Bleach, just as Senbonzakura has been, so I hope I've done him justice! Hyōrinmaru without a doubt one of mine, and the fandoms, most loved Zanpakutō! ❄️ (Plus, in the dub his voiced by Travis Willingham which is an obvious bonus!) I hope you like this as much as I do!

Nowen Talkin Bout Bleach
Bleach TYBW Ep 16: “oooooh…I forgot they could do that.”
Ok so great episode, they are jamming a bunch into these episodes. The Shinigami are back up and ready to swing (their swords at the enemy). We get to see the complete Hitsugaya and Cang Du fight, as well as the new Bambietta and Shinji fight. Urahara shows up and so does Komamura! It's a good day for the Soul Reapers! Seems like this war will be over...What? *whispering* what do you mean it's not over? Wait, what do you mean Volstandig? Oh....oooooh. I totally forgot they could do that.
WE AINT OUT OF THE WOODS YET FOLKS!!

Things I liked: (there is a lot im so sorry)
We get to see how all the different divisions and their Lieutenants were handling the invasion and fighting against the Soldat, squads 7, 5, 4, 9 and 11. out of the five, three of their captains are missing and the other two are elsewhere in the Seireitei.
Toshiro and Cang's whole exchange. Cang is just twisting the knife into Toshiro by just tossing Rangiku's body in front of him and then using Hyōrinmaru in front of him, complimenting it and being all nice. He's really completing the objective of breaking the Shinigami's spirit.
Urahara and Mayuri's exchange. Urahara just calling Mayuri on the phone and Mayuri just hanging up on him. I feel like its no secret that these two hate each other but this really shows how far Mayuri will go to snub Kisuke. Also you know Mayuri made a mental not of the guy who complimented Kisuke, he is going to get dissected for sure.
less than 1 second later he shows up and we get an explanation on the Shineiyaku and how Quincies are allergic to hollows. Good reminder from "Everything but the Rain" and I think we got a better explanation of why the Quincy dont really use Sklavern. The explanation being that they used it in the medalions that stole bankai.
Mayuri's Rgb drip, he would have a gamer keyboard
The squad 12 team immediately springing into action once they have consoles in front of them. Really shows how important of a role communications play in a war even if they don't fight.
Shinji just not caring about Urahara's happy little speech. Who wouldn't know the man after the nonsense he has done.
Cang and Toshiro's fight. The immediate shift when Hitsugaya gets his bankai back. The blood and ice from Cang, the red glare on the eyes from Toshiro, the immediate dis of Hyōrinmaru wanting to ditch Cang. Toshiro having a conversation with Hyōrinmaru while stomping Cang. now that we know more about Bankai's it makes sense how Hitsugaya knew what his was before he even got an asauchi. The little touches that show Hitsugaya now has some hollow in him, the voice distortion and the red eye. He even apoligizes for not making the ice he freezes Cang into into a pentagram for a grave, this kid is a class act. Also I may be mistaken but I think hollow themed music is playing?
Omaeda and Soi Fon's little aside before they blast BG-9. How can people not love these two as a team? Also BG-9 just asking if they can speak up to keep listening in.
I did not think we would see SHINJI'S BANKAI SO EARLY!! it looks great, and its effect really drives it home how cool it is and also how DANGEROUS it would have been in the Fake Karakura arc. Also everything reversing before it activates is great.
Of course Shuhei would be the only guy to understand wrestling lingo.
Komamura! he's got some sick armor and I thought we'd get to see his fight, but here is where we get to see Shinji versus Bambietta instead! I guess they're going to save the best for later and I am here for it.
Shinji and Bambietta's fight. I love the backwards subs and vocals as well as the trippy visuals. He's got jazzy music going, he's clowning on her, and he's doing some intimidation as well, it's a shame that he forgets that this is what happened when he fought Aizen. Stop talking and start stabbing Shinji, come on.
I'm glad that they gave the Sternritter different colors for their Volstandig again. I know that for the colorized manga they do that, and while I feel Bleach should be read in black and white, it's a nice touch.
Good to see our straberry boy is doing well with training, its getting tough but he's hanging in there. Oh he's getting visions? Oh no he's getting visions... Still it's nice to see how they're setting up the the reveal for the literal most important person in the universe. But it does make me ask if Ichigo will become a candidate and if this will be the true ending for Bleach.
Things I didn't like:
I love a good explanation on how things work, but man do Mayuri and Kisuke use thirty words when five will do.
all it takes is a push of a button to do the Tentaikura? (the kido spell where you make a zigzag mark on your arm and you become a loudspeaker) its the third time it ever gets used, but its weird that its like this to me.
I think I've already said this but it bears repeating. I don't like how they've tried to make Bambietta or the Bambi's cute. we see her just straight explode some guys and an episode ago we saw her lure a man into her room and then VERTICALLY BISECT HIM! Also the Quincy are straight up sadists, I know that some of the Shinigami are as well but still it doesn't work for me. Also all of the female Sternritter have some kind of theme to make them attractive and stand out and it feels so blatant and ridiculous that I do not care for it.
Very excited to see what happens next! I'm also dreading/interested about the shadowy figure that hovered over Hitsugaya's corpse and how they get handled. It was not handled well in the manga.

Toshiro Hitsugaya from Bleach / Cosplayer: @LittleViolet.cosplayer / Con : Ohayocon 2023
Ohayocon was definitely the biggest convention I’ve been to, to date. It was also the second ribbon game I participated in, that definitely helped me with talking to people. How to earn and trade ribbons with others. My favorite interaction though was an in series joke between me and another cosplayer
Cosplay has definitely helped me by getting me further out of my shell. I’m normally the person cheering someone else on, someone else having to start the conversation. With cosplay, it’s easier to have something, like a prompt to socialize easier. If you’re in a cosplay, that’s something easy to be able to talk about or compliment someone else’s work. Once you get me talking it’s easier for me to come out of my shell. Seeing other people who look like me, plus size abs confident, really helped with my own self confidence and self esteem too. I hope I can be that same feeling for someone else
I know it might be little cliché but not worry about how your look. I was always and still can be really self conscious of my appearance, my body shape. Once I put on the cosplays the worries of my appearance gets shoved in the back. Talk to others! I’m an anxious person so getting to talk with people was definitely a learning curve, one I’m happy I’m doing better with.
I’m a Halloween kid! I grew up loving Halloween and the Renaissance festival and the outfits that came from both. My mother helped me make different Halloween costumes always different then before. Looking into homemade Halloween costumes kinda lead down the rabbit hole into cosplay. In school I had other friends who’s been to conventions and talked about cosplay, it helped fuel me into looking in the community more. Since jumping into cosplay, it’s something I’m not looking into quitting anytime soon.
I’m cosplaying Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya from the Bleach series. If you looked at the progress from some of my other looks you can see that a major part of my builds are props and how to incorporate them differently.When watching the series I absolutely loved the look of his bankai and how he’s able to manipulate the snow/ice into so many different abilities. His bankai look definitely scratched my love of constructing bigger and more unique designs. Also with the look always changing between panels in the manga or in the anime meant I had a little more wiggle room when crafting the ice creations.This was my first project with LEDs you don’t see them unless I’m not in really bright con lights but it was a touch I liked. Getting the lights to only shine through the eyes and not the rest of the head was little more of a challenge then I expected. If you look on at his back, he has ice blooming from the center that connects to the wings, that made attaching wings was interesting. The straps are actually fed through the captain hoari and top black ‘shirt’ layer.
The pants where also another fun one. When looking for information on traditional hakama pants most talked about 7 pleated with the ties and open side panels. What the reference images show though is fully pleated pants with ties and open side panels. So I mixed them both, I did seven pleats in the front with a gathered elastic half waistband for the back to give the full, many pleat look. This also allowed me to have a more secure waist band then ties and hide the belt for the tail as well. Since the belt was actually in a fabric sock with another one secured over the buckle for the tie in the front. I also have pockets! Which is nice cause I don’t have access to my hands easily in this one.
This experience was overwhelming but an amazing one! On Saturday night I ended the night by receiving @krazykatstudios judges pick! I am absolutely honored and still little in shock about it. This was my third competition but my first time competing at Ohayocon and the largest one I competed in. This competition also required a build book, it’s a binder holding information on how you crafted the cosplay and troubleshooting parts, explaining your progress essentially. So that was a new skill I had to try out too. Sitting in a chair with 5.5ft wings and 4ft tail was also a very new challenge that I may have forgot to take into account before the day of.
It was a surreal experience being announced as a judges choice! There was so many other competitors and amazing outfits that I wasn’t expect it. This was also my first award in cosplay and it’s surreal, I truly am honored.

Hello everyone today I'm going to talk about a fanfiction idea I don't think people have done yet and I am annoyed if people haven't done it yet I'm talking about a crossover between JoJo's bizarre adventure and Bleach...Like Seriously! think about how many moments we would get like "it's the same time of stand as star platinum" like Ryuujin Jakka and Magicians Red or Hyōrinmaru and White Album!...granted most Zanpakuto's are stronger than stands but it would be funny to see someone be like "HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT HE HIS THE SAME POWER AS MY SOUL SWORD"
