kiss me down by the broken treehouse // mick schumacher
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: honeymoons in the midwest, heart shaped jacuzzis and scented bubble bath. this is how mick wants the rest of his life to be
pairing: mick schumacher x newlywed reader!
warnings: vague allusions to sex, two people being sickeningly in love, bathing together. nicolas cage should be a warning in itself
author's note: this is the last fic in the cozy collection and not gonna lie, it's making me very emotional. thank you for coming along for this cozy and warm, and sometimes scandalous adventure <3. i can't wait to share the christmas collection with you all.
the hotel suite was dim as she slipped the rose gold wedding band off her finger, dropping it on the dresser next to the almost identical one her husband wore.
mick was sitting by the window, lighting a tangle of scented candles as the heart-shaped jacuzzi tub filled with bubble bath.
"baby, what's all this?" she asked softly, leaning down to kiss him.
they had spent the day in town, visiting country stores and hiking trails, downing more apple cider than mick had ever thought possible. they were cold to the bone when they returned to the hotel, but that didn't stop mick from pulling his wife into bed and reminding her just how happy he was to spend the rest of their lives together.
"just another way to show how much i love you." mick hummed, reaching for the bottle of champagne he'd had room service deliver on their way back to the bed and breakfast. "i figured the best way to end the night was a nice bubble bath and a movie."
she smiled, giggling as she kissed the side of his head. "i knew there was a reason i married you."
she disentangled herself from mick, slender fingers making quick work of the belt holding her plush hotel robe together, fabric pooling over the floor and revealing her naked body to her lover.
blushing furiously, mick turned off the tap, quickly filling two champagne flutes before stripping out of his own hotel robe.
“after you, my darling wife.” he grinned, taking y/ns hand and helping her into the tub. he slipped under the bubbles after her, nuzzling into her back and pressing a kiss to her shoulder blade. “ich liebe dich.”
“I love you too, mickie.”
she settled on one of the built in tub seats, smiling at her husband before she looked dreamily out the frost covered window. the trees in the vermont woods next to the hotel were dyed shades of red-orange, the colors themselves beyond breathtaking.
“whatcha starin’ at, pretty girl?” mick pondered, kissing the top of her head as he settled in next to her.
“the trees. nature. it’s beautiful. how did you manage to get a room with such a great view?”
mick shrugged. “turns out, telling the hotel you’re on your honeymoon gets you special privileges. but that view isn’t as a great as the one I had earlier when I was on top of you. or the view I have every morning when I wake up with you in my arms.”
she giggled, playfully slapping his shoulder. "mickie!"
mick laughed, kissing the side of her head before reaching for the laptop next to the tub. "how do you feel about the nicolas cage dracula movie?"
"absolutley not! when i get nightmares, are you going to nurse me back to sleep?"
"yes." mick said solemnly, loading up amazon prime on his laptop. "one hundred percent."
y/n snickered, reaching for the champagne. once mick schumacher was alseep, not even a tornado could wake him up. "babe, we both know you'd sleep right through. you sleep like a goddamn rock."
"yeah, babe. you're right. but nicolas cage is in it, it wont be that scary."
“I’m not worried about it being scary; I’m worried about it being gory.” she rolled her eyes, taking a sip of champagne. “if I start watching ‘renfield’ through my fingertips, you’re on your own, mickie.”
mick giggled, hitting the play button before pulling his wife into his lap. “consider me warned. we can watch the original halloween afterwards.”
“you’ve got yourself a deal, husband.” she laughed, passing him a champagne flute.
the room was small and cozy, lit only by the blue glow from micks laptop and the candles around the bath, the air filled with the calming scents of vanilla, cinnamon and pumpkin. micks gentle fingers trailed up and down her thigh as they watched the movie together, sipping champagne and enjoying each others company.
every so often, mick filled the silence with a small praise, a gentle kiss against his wife’s skin. it was still so surreal to him that he would get to hold her in his arms, every day, for the rest of his life.
she rested her head on his shoulder, placing the empty glass back on the ledge outside the tub before she properly folded her body against his, fingertips mindlessly tracing shapes on his chest, the fine blonde hairs dotting his pecs matted to his skin by the water, a few errant bubbles still stark against his skin.
she loved him, truly madly and deeply.
it seemed like just yesterday they had met each other, although it had been almost four years. four great years of love and laughter and highs and lows. and in a blink of an eye, there she was, in her white dress, in micks arms as they danced to a bryan adams song.
four years of feelings she wasn’t sure she’d ever have the joy of feeling for another living, breathing person. and she wouldn’t trade it for anything.
when the movie was half over, candle wax dripping into hardwood and the bubbles all faded away from the lukewarm water, skin dried out and pruny, only then did the newlyweds emerge from the heart-shaped tub.
micks touch was gentle as he helped his wife dress in her long, pale nightdress, silk dusting the carpet as she pulled down the handmade quilt, ready to fold herself into bed next to her husband.
he slipped into bed next to her, laying the laptop down in front of them. his fingers played with her hair, twirling strands around her finger before he began to lazily braid a small section, the last half of the movie playing on the small screen.
“mick?”
“yeah?”
“I’m so excited to spend my future with you.”
“me too, Liebling.” he smiled, kissing her forehead. “we’ve got so much to look forward to.”

Where the SLH Team are dreaming of going
For a team that talks travel on a daily basis, months spent in lockdown has given us all an extra dose of wanderlust. From dream destinations to old favourites, travel has very much been on our minds. In need of some inspiration? When it’s safe for us to see the world again, here is where we’ll be heading…
EMEA Team
Richard Hyde – Chief Operating Officer
Venice (for my short haul city fix) Jersey ( for my staycation ) Tulum (for my resort chillax)
Jessica Sparkes – Head of Digital Performance
Barcelona, Spain: I want lots of delicious tapas, sunshine and beautiful city strolls – finishing the day with rooftop cocktails at The Wittmore.
Cotswolds, UK: I want to take my pooch on a Cotswold staycation at The Fish. We will enjoy country walks, pub grub and escape the London hustle.
Koh Samui, Thailand: Last time I was in Koh Samui I was 21, years later I want to go back in style and relax on the beach at Cape Fahn – the most beautiful island and ocean view villas!
Chloe Frost-Smith – Digital Image & Content Executive
What better way to while away summer days than with rosé in hand on the French Riviera? I am dreaming of lavender season in Provence with a splash in the pool at Hôtel Crillon le Brave, riding horses on the beach in Camargue, and living out my Brigitte Bardot fantasies by eating Tarte tropézienne for breakfast at Hôtel Lou Pinet in Saint Tropez. I would also love to read a good book under the lemon trees at Casa Angelina on the Amalfi Coast, or try an alfresco pizza-making class on the rustic estate of Castello di Reschio in Tuscany.
Closer to home, my firm favourite for a staycation is the Farncombe Estate in the Cotswolds – I’m a country girl at heart. Looking further ahead to September, I have a trip planned to Sardinia – and would love to go into Hygge hibernation at Storfjord in Norway this winter for some Scandi skiing.
Tumblr media
Abi Tottenham-Smith – Head of Social Media
Surrounded by the vineyards and beautiful countryside in Piedmont and Villa La Madonna…
A road trip up to Scotland in a camper-van, mixed with a couple of nights of luxury at Greywalls Hotel…
A beach retreat in Greece – can’t decide where yet but somewhere to switch off and relax for a week in the sunshine…
Maddy Morgan – Director of PR Worldwide
I can’t wait to get back to … Portugal, it’s my home from home but I’ve never been to Porto so Hotel Infante Sagres and Carmo’s Boutique Hotel beckon.
I dream of being in … Bali, it’s where I honeymooned and I’d love to take my children there and stay overlooking the jungle at Viceroy Bali.
I am going to … Provence, I’m looking forward to enjoying the space and freedom of a dispersed hotel at Hôtel Crillon le Brave.
I’m bringing back my bucket list wish to go to … New Zealand, to find adventure, taste wine and discover amazing hotels like Bay of Many Coves.
Daniel Luddington – Vice President of Development
I miss Wimbledon this year – but am playing tennis three times a week at the moment to make up for it, and indulging in strawberries and cream (with Pimms!) – so a tennis getaway at Cromlix Hotel in Scotland, (owned by Andy Murray) would be the ultimate tennis fix right now.
For a family holiday, I fancy the Greek islands – Porto Zante have the most amazing private villas but also would love to experience Canaves Oia Epitome, a family friendly space unique in Santorini.
For a bit of laid back, low-key luxury, 3 places would hit the spot…Sikelia Pantelleria, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay or any of our Tulum properties.
Tumblr media
Gabor Toth – Senior Revenue Account Manager
Le Grand Bellevue in Gstaad for hiking in summer and fondue.
Boutique Hotel Alhambra and D-Resort Šibenik in Croatia for my beach/water sports in Europe.
Patrick Pieters – Senior Revenue Account Manager
Loire/Valleys, Oslo, Mexico or Bali.
Chloe Musumeci – Senior Revenue Account Manager
Galleria VIK Milano to get ready for the Autumn/Winter shopping season…
Susafa for a taste of the best organic products of my land – Sicily…
Viceroy Bali – paradise on earth and an oasis of relaxation…
Tumblr media
Christopher Grime – Head of Product Integration
Staycation – The Nare – for Cornish beaches that rival any in the world, amazing fresh fish and delicious cream teas.
A bit of culture and relaxation – my beloved Sri Lanka – amazing history, beautiful beaches, delightful people, tasty hoppers (Sri Lanka’s answer to the pancake) and the best relish in the world, Pol Sambol made with coconut.
Short hop – Hotel Ranga in Iceland for stunning waterfalls and the incredible Northern Lights, which I have yet to experience.
Mirko Della Mora – Senior GDS & Distribution Manager
For a weekend/short haul I’d love to go to one of our castles in Scotland (whisky tasting included) or in Normandy (a region that I know quite well but can’t help falling more in love each time).
For a longer trip (min 5 days, I’d say) I would love to visit:
Portugal, rent a car and go around cities and places.
Baltic cities and Norwegian Fjords (including a cruise).
As major dream trips in my bucket list:
Japan (both sides of it, the ultra-technological country and the Kabuki/cherry blossoms/tea rituals experience).
Coast to coast USA trip in a convertible car (ending in Napa Valley, for wine tours).
Argentina and Uruguay food and wine tour.
Rafael Pirassinunga – Operations Manager – World of Hyatt Partnership
I am all for the off-the-beaten-track destinations, so I’m currently dreaming of:
Lakeside cocktails and relax at Esperanza Resort & SPA
City break and fine dining at Saint Ten Hotel
Exploring ancient culture and great food at Grand Hotel Yerevan
Reconnecting with nature and social distancing from the world at Terelj Hotel
Practicing my Norwegian at Storfjord Hotel
Tumblr media
Katrin Holtkott – Barter Room Co-ordinator
Villa Eyrie Resort, Canada (breathing in mountain air and spectacular views – reconnecting with nature)
La Sultana Marrakech (the colors, spices, architecture, people, culture – not in that order!)
Japan – I want to stay in every one of the SLH hotels in Japan – it has been on my bucket list destination for years – if not after the lockdown lifts, when then?
Justyn Herbert – Finance Director
I’m looking forward to going back to The Oval to watch the England Cricket team win the next test series, I would love to see Springsteen play the US, either Chicago or New Jersey, and in the winter go on the England Cricket tour, preferably in the West Indies, all without the social distancing.
AMERICAS Team
Anna-Lisa Hafgren-Willis – Regional Manager – Americas & Travel Trade Relations Manager
Dreaming of:
Autumn colors in Vermont at The Reluctant Panther Inn
Delayed honeymoon in Mexico City at Stara Hamburgo and Stara San Angel Inn
A nostalgic visit back to my father’s family city Gothenburg, Sweden staying with the Dorsia Hotel & Restaurant
Dana O’Malley – PR Director Americas
Small city break exploring Hotel Amparo in San Miguel.
Relaxing poolside at Canaves Oia Epitome.
Staycation in the mountains upstate New York.
Vanessa Johnson – Sales Manager, Central Region
Charleston, South Carolina: weekend city getaway at Wentworth Mansion (I’ve never been and have heard too many amazing things about the charming shops and food).
Scotland: exploring all things the highlands have to offer and stay at our dreamy castle hotels.
Canada: rest and relaxation in natures finest! Either coast, Nova Scotia and Trout Point Lodge or British Columbia and Villa Eyrie Resort.
Mexico: beach getaway to Tulum, Rivera Maya or Playa del Carmen…so many options, you can’t go wrong!
Tumblr media
APAC Team
Jill Liu – Sales Manager, China
My dream destinations are: Tahiti, South Africa, and Santorini.
Khim Yeo – Revenue Account Manager – Asia Pacific
The Maldives (resort chilling and snorkelling)
Singapore (staycation)
Mongolia for some adventures
Crystal Davies – Senior Revenue Account Manager
Montenegro for relaxation, enjoy the beautiful mountain and coastline views, and go scuba diving if possible.
Switzerland (Cordée des Alpes Hotel) for snowboarding.
Bhutan (Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary and Gangtey Lodge) for some Zen moments, mountain biking, hiking and meditation. Our suggested itinerary which you can read here is my perfect trip.
My type of holiday always involves full-on activities, so I often feel more exhausted after vacations…!

Pownal Vermont July 28th-Aug4
Virtually no WiFi here at the Pine Hollow Campground!  We’re in Bennington waiting for laundry and stopped at a park near a pretty cemetery to run Finny around and get a few posts up.
We got on the road heading to New England for the next few weeks.  Yay!  We got married in Massachusetts in the fall, and traveled through Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island on our honeymoon.  Peter became a huge fan of the area and landscape, and for many years, we spent our anniversary going back to hike and bike, and enjoy the foliage.
I did the driving on this leg, and it went well!  When we first got to the place, I slyly suggested that I do the backing in at the site, and Peter was all set to call my bluff!  In the end, I thought better of that, but I do plan to give it a shot at some point!
Pownal is a bit south of Bennington.  This campground is very small and quiet.  It doesn’t really offer much in the way of walking paths, but it’s very pretty and peaceful. We’re going to do our usual first day routine of chilling out and setting up.  Peter started feeling the slightest hint of a sore throat as we left PA., and despite all his attempts to head it off at the pass, it’s blossomed into a full blown summer cold.  They’re the worst!  He’s still a bit knocked down with the symptoms, but seems as if the worst is over.  I’m dosing myself with Elderberry tincture in an attempt to fend it off.  So far so good!

in the woods
he sets a steaming mug on the coffee-table beside her, the scent of hot chocolate curling her lips up. last night, he made them rib-eyes with spinach and mashed potatoes, used that ridiculously expensive grass-fed butter and everything; she picks up the mug, takes a creamy sip, and decides that she can summarize this weekend with the word rich. though they only have two space-heaters in this little cabin, the room feels cozy nonetheless. she lounges on the couch, the secret history on her pajamaed lap, her legs up on the cushions while he sits down at her feet, lifts her toes up onto his lap. she sets the mug back down, returns to her words while he takes one of her wool socks into his hands and rubs his thumb along her arch. yes, she thinks; rich is the correct term.
though she’s unsure as to whose cabin this is, she knows it belongs to an old friend of mulder’s, some guy whose wife or daughter or other relative had been abducted, and due to mulder’s brash heroism - she stopped listening as soon as he began the story, for she figured it wouldn’t be true or that the true version would be far less exhilarating than mulder’s rendition - and she doesn’t want to question the ownership, not when it’s ever-so-softly snowing outside and not while their little space of the adirondacks is so blissfully, wonderfully quiet. according to the true locals, this is off-season, and they’re in a portion of the state that’s been owned by a specific family for years; the lake water, apparently, is safe to drink though she made sure mulder boiled it anyway. nonetheless, it’s just them and the neighboring cabin’s occupants out here for the weekend, the nearest paved road being thirty miles away, the closest gas station probably thirty-five.
“are we staying in today?” he asks as he rubs her feet, still tired from their past week of nonstop paperwork. to skinner on friday, mulder claimed that he would have a twenty-four hour virus starting on that coming monday, a lie that skinner grinned and bore; as for her excuse to spend the weekend away, she was registered to attend a conference in alexandria that she’d intended to attend though mulder’s mentioned it hundreds of times that, technically speaking, they’re both playing hooky. yesterday, they spent the morning snowshoeing the property and hiking the short path down to the frozen-over lake, but today, life sounds best when her book, a blanket, and mulder are involved.
glancing out the window, she watches as an evergreen folds heavily beneath the falling snow; outside, the world is silent but full of change, the gravity shifting as it does with every storm. to herself, she wonders if they might end up snowed in and finds she doesn’t mind that prospect.
“i’d like to,” she says as he switches to her other foot.
of course, she’d been resistant at his first mention of a weekend like this, one planned out and researched and intended for - she nearly cringes at the word - romance.
“just wait for a holiday weekend instead,” she insisted as they sat together in the basement office, as she flicked through some new file, as she remained friendly but indifferent toward him in the way she’d mastered at work over the years. though their relationship had changed drastically - in a good way, in the best of ways - since he kissed her on the first, she still needed to be professional. “i’d rather not take time off.”
“but it is a holiday weekend,” he gave softly, his eyes puppying and his gaze silently hurt.
“mulder, martin luther king day is in january, not february.”
“yeah, i know that.”
“then what holiday are you talking about?”
and though she knew that their territory since he kissed her on the first was uncharted, and though she knew that her priorities didn’t tend toward hallmark holidays, and though she knew better than to think he would overlook such a thing, she stared incredulously at him, couldn’t remember any february holiday other than her birthday though even that one was hardly worth celebrating.
“that’s the weekend of valentine’s day,” he explained, his eyes downcast, his ribs still as he waited for the inevitable rejection. “the fourteenth’s that monday.”
and now, she’s playing hooky for the first time in her career, and she’s wearing his thermal shirt, and he made her belgian waffles for breakfast, the world beyond them is a mess of bright white, and work is the last thing on her mind.
“i think there’s a scrabble board on the bookshelf,” he says, glancing back at the dusty, faded stack of almanacs; this place, all gas-powered and wooden, looks exactly the way a cabin should look, the decor straight out of the 1960s, the mugs in the cabinet all fading shades of green and yellow, all of the furniture holding the scent of pine. if there’s a box of scrabble in here, it’ll be an old version, the rulebook fading and three or four of the pieces missing. looking to him, she smiles softly, figures that everything’s more alluring when it has a quirk or two.
“yeah,” she offers, folding her pages over her bookmark, setting the novel down on the coffee-table. then, she shimmies down against the couch, her knees falling over his lap, and motions for him to come closer. though the word of the weekend is rich, she figures contact would also suffice.
“we’re not going to fit,” he warns but leans down alongside her anyway; with his folded legs draping across her hips and his arm steadying himself around her stomach, she exhales, her mind blanking meditatively, her heartbeat slow and soft.
“i’m sorry that there’s not much to do around here,” he whispers against her skin, his lips ghosting against her collarbone. “i should’ve planned something else. though i know you like quiet places, this might be a little too quiet.”
“no, no,” she says, shaking her head as she twines his fingers through his hair. then, she quirks a lip, says, “a calm, quiet weekend with you is a rare treat.”
“we could’ve gone to san jose,” he muses; though she’s not entirely sure, she thinks he’s joking. “i heard that there have been sightings there. we could’ve stayed up until four in the morning, looked for flying saucers, and eaten junk food all weekend.”
“how romantic,” she deadpans.
“this hasn’t been romantic at all,” he grumbles, the statement self-deprecating, his words intended for himself only.
on the drive from some tiny rural airport in vermont to this cabin, he brought out his blues brothers cd to keep them entertained while the radio stations went in and out; he imitated the guys on npr for a certain stretch of miles, each quip being met with a smile from her. though they arrived too late on friday night to see much of the property, he offered her a ski mask and sat on the cabin’s porch with her, pointed out the seven sisters constellation and labeled it the smudge in the sky. that night, she took his sleep-shirt out of his duffel, put it on before he could, and the incredulous but deeply satisfied look he gave her for that - and the mild-mannered but insistent way he managed to get it back, or at least to let it reside on the bedroom’s floor for the remainder of the evening - was worth any backroad boredom they could’ve had. though she always knew he was loving, could discern his intelligent passion from the moment she first met him, she’s still shocked with every extraneous touch, with every unnecessary caress, with the way he’ll stop stirring risotto just so he can bring her into his arms, and she’s far more shocked with how at ease she feels with him. when he makes her dinner, when he borrows her chapstick though she insists that he shouldn’t, when he spoons up against her in bed as though he could read her mind and sense that she felt cold, she feels her mind soften, her muscles relax; simultaneously, they’re honeymooners and best friends, and as she turns her head, kisses his forehead, she whispers, “it’s been romantic.”
“but has it been a valentine’s day kind of romantic?” he asks.
“of course it has,” she laughs.
“really?”
“you’re asking someone who forgot about the holiday altogether.”
“so i should’ve made this year so memorable that you would never forget it.”
she closes her eyes, breathes him in, thinks of how many hours they have to themselves, just the two of them in the middle of nowhere on a snowy day, books and scrabble keeping them company, this cabin making them feel as though they’re the only people left on earth.
“i'll never forget it,” she whispers to him. “i promise.”

With so many people looking to stay local for trips during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is more reason now than ever to stay in the United States for your honeymoon rather than go abroad. Luckily, there are so many great destinations to visit during every season of the year without having to leave the country. Here are some of our picks!
Winter
There are all kinds of fun places to go in the U.S. during the winter months.
Colorado
Take a ski trip in the winter to do something active and romantic for your honeymoon! From Aspen to Breckenridge to Telluride, the snow-covered mountains present a beautiful scene to celebrate your recent marriage. Cuddle up by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and take in the sights and all of the nature around you in Colorado.
Key West, Florida
Take a trip to the southernmost point of the U.S. for your honeymoon and get into an island state of mind. Key West (or any of the Florida Keys, for that matter) present a laid-back, casual spot to relax and get some sun. There’s something for everyone there, from historical sites and tours to shopping, breweries, and water adventures.
U.S. Virgin Islands
A part of the U.S. that’s often forgotten about is the hidden paradise that exists in the U.S. Virgin Islands. St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix are incredibly beautiful, boasting some of the best beaches in the world. You’ll feel away from it all without even needing a passport and you’ll love the warm-weather escape in the height of winter.
Spring
The spring is such a great time to visit these parts of the United States.
Washington, D.C.
Head to the nation’s capital to check out some historical sites and to enjoy the springtime beauty of this area. From blooming cherry blossoms to beautiful weather, you’ll love walking around the charming neighborhoods of this area as newlyweds.
Disney World or Disneyland
Visit one of the most magical places on earth for your honeymoon and you’ll feel like you’re living a real-life fantasy! Disney World and Disneyland both have so much to do for adults. From drinking around the world at Epcot to walking the boardwalk in Anaheim, you’re sure to be entertained. (A little bit of childhood nostalgia never hurt anyone, either!)
Summer
Summer presents some of the best options of places to honeymoon without leaving the U.S. borders.
New England States
Many of the New England states boast some of the prettiest coast lines that are amazing to visit during the summer months. Massachusetts has Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard, which are all worth considering. Alternatively, visit Newport in Rhode Island or Kennebunkport in Maine to get a slice of authentic East Coast summer.
Hawaii
Head to one of the most tropical places in the U.S. and visit the islands of Hawaii. Hike volcanoes, visit a coffee plantation, and learn to surf on these picturesque islands that allow you to feel transported to another world.
Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina
Enjoy old-time charm and a slower pace in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina. The area looks like it comes straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel and the proximity to the water makes it fun and romantic all at the same time.
Fall
The fall is one of the most beautiful seasons in many parts of the country.
Vermont
Take in the foliage in Vermont for your honeymoon. The sight of the changing leaves alone will leave you breathless, but you’ll also love the charm of this state in its small inns, farms, and breweries.
Great Smoky Mountains
Head to Tennessee to visit the Great Smoky Mountains. This is another fabulous place to see foliage, escape from the modern world, and really connect with your new spouse. Appreciate nature and go on hikes for a more active trip or kick back and relax in a rented cabin for something more casual.
The U.S. has so many amazing honeymoon spots that there’s no reason to flee the country to celebrate your new marriage and have an unforgettable trip!
