Alone in the lab, Ben’s anger slowly abates. This is a somewhat new experience for the one, who is Kylo Ren no longer. Back in his days of courting the Dark Side, he’d demolished the botany lab and with that probably sabotaged the mission for good. But now Ben takes a step back to reflect on what has led to him being angry.
What if the others are right? What if there are still traces of Palpatine's influence in my mind, steering my actions and very thoughts towards things I wouldn’t do or think without those remnants?
Echos of a voice that got stilled. Faint imprints on... what was Hux calling it again? Blotting paper, was it?
The dark side could be more suble than calling Hey, kid, here's power, want some?.
Be still, voices! Make room for better things!
Be gone, dark notions! Let this mind be filled with meaningful ideas!
Tumblr media
It is said to be careful what to ask for. Ben's ability to modify the world around him through the force may be diminished, but it hasn't left him. And his new kyber crystal comes from Batuu, from the same batch Koi Squad had gotten theirs. They are linked and through that link now snippets of memories that their owners maybe already have forgotten flood Ben:
The boy? You can’t have him! - No, I meant that he isn’t mine. I’m only his nanny. - Please don’t take him! I’ll get in trouble! I... Please!
Hux? No, I’ve seen those waves before, that’s Mua Pel’am... Must be Finn’s memory, then.
You better be nice to me! My grandfather is an evil, evil man, who will do evil, evil things to you, if you are mean to me!
Rey, no doubt. What a prissy little princess she had been!
Dad! Dad! I painted us going fishing together! Here's you and here's me and here's General Rax, how he's slicing open a real big fish!
You DREW that, not PAINTED. At least keep the terms straight, if you can't do it right!
Uh, no way I will look at a childhood drawing of Hux'. Next, please.
One day a prince will come, I just know it! And he will fall into quicksand and I will rescue him and we will live together happily ever after.
Rey again, this time much sadder. What's wrong with me that I cannot even fall into quicksand at the right time and place?
Woosh! Woosh! I’m Lord Vader and will sweep you rebel scum from the earth!
Haha, rein in your fathiers, Eight-Seven! There is no need to pretend to be someone else. You already are a soldier of the First Order! That is something to be proud of.
Young Finn again. Getting scolded for pretend play, one of the most natural things children do. It’s sickening.
Have you ever played, uh, Blind Sabacc?
Dameron. As a teen. At least I hope he's already a teen, that little pervert.
The little girl steps up to the gallows. Of the people gathered in two rows left and right, some scowl, but many smile.
Little Tico? About to get hanged? But I know she grew up, so she will get pardoned any moment! She will...
The little girl reaches out and confidently pulls a metal ball hanging from the gallow back. Then she releases it - and under the gallow, eight out of nine pins fall.
Phew. It's just an old fashioned game of skill! And I already feared the worst.
Bip-bip bip-bip beep-beep!
You got the rhythm down pat, little buddy, but to really sing, you'll also need to change the pitch. Like this: All my little duck-lings!
Dameron again, but this memory feels different, as if belonging to someone else. And I see him from about seventy centimeters above the ground. Am I watching a memory of BB-8's? Wait, what, does that mean the little scoundrel pocketed a kyber crystal from the cave? I wonder what color it is...
I’m happy to announce that I decided on parents for Finn and that they are not from the Star Wars canon.

Ninh Binh
While Hanoi has a lot to see, I was itching for some adventure so I took a day trip to Ninh Binh, a province less than 2 hours south of Hanoi that has become a fairly popular tourist destination. There are a ton of day tours from Hanoi to Ninh Binh so I booked one that had good ratings online.
I woke up very early to go to the Old Quarter, where my tour group’s bus departed to head down to Ninh Binh. During the ride our guide told us some about the history of the area and the stories of the ancient dynasties. Ninh Binh was the ancient capital of Vietnam before Hanoi. Our first stop on the tour was in Hoa Lu, where there are relics of the old capital citadel and temples honoring the ancient kings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our next activity was a bicycle tour around a nearby village and rice fields. It was nice to ride around and enjoy the serenity compared to the chaos of Hanoi. By this point I was quite hungry but fortunately the tour included a lunch buffet, where they served Ninh Binh’s specialty: goat.
Tumblr media
After lunch our group went to Tam Coc where we went on boat rides. I cannot describe how beautiful the boat ride was. We went through three caves and each time we exited each cave was a spectacular view of cliffs and rice fields. My photos absolutely do not do it justice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last stop of the tour was Hang Mua, where there is a great viewpoint of Ninh Binh. The trek to the top of this viewpoint was killer, however. I would consider myself to be pretty fit but that was one of the hardest hikes I have ever done and I needed a good rest at the top to catch my breath. The views were great, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ninh Binh was so beautiful and it was nice to have a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.

March 30th: Exploring Tam Coc by bike
While the town itself is really not nice to hang around, there are many nice spots to explore nearby. We decided to rent some shitty bikes for 2€ each and bike around to see the ricefields and mountains. And it was so beautiful. Literally 5 minutes outside of the town there are ricefields and mountains everywhere. The downside however is that the roads are not the best for biking. So it was a bumpy adventure.
Tumblr media
The first stop we had in mind were the Mua caves. We thought the caves must be super big and beautiful but it turns out the main attraction was the hike uo the mountain for 2 beautiful views. The cave itself was just a 1 minute walk. But back to the climbing/stairs. How fun is it to climb up a mountain when it is almost 40 degrees out there and a high level humidity? Well for others it seemed like lots of fun. I however looked like a perdin who has just been pushed into water while also smelling really well lets say interesting. I dont know how others get up here without even sweating one single bit. But the view was worth it:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Ok to be fair, this voew was only half the wsy up. We had to reach to another peak on the other side of the mountain. Halfway through we decided to take a break and look at the boats that paddle through the ricefields. Such a great moment to remember. I really wish I would have brought my painting materials. But it will still be a great memory. On our way up we also saw a trashcan full with stickers of peoole from Germany..even some from Munich. Us Germans... we are everywhere in the world :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also some information if you wanna go there by bike: right before getting to the entrance there is a free parking lot for bikes. The entire road before getting to the entrace there are locals getting in your way and trying to block you and telling you to pay for bikeparking. Just 5.000 dong per person but still. Do not agree and keep biking. Even if it means that you almost hit a local by bike.
Our second stop was supposed to be a buffallo cave, where people can feed bqby ducks, buffallos and walk inside a cave with a waterfall. When we arrived there we realized thatvit woukd not be worth paying for this little touristic sightseeing. Sadly, getting to the buffalo cave, our rented bikes got really muddy and we though we could not return them like this. So on our way back we tried to find some water to bike through to kinf of get it clean. So when we found a spot we just buked back and forth for minutes through the water. It must have looked so stupid to other people. And when we returned the bikes (still suoer dirty) we just handed back the keys to get our ID back and left quickly so they couldnt check if the bikes are all good. To be fair the bikes were kind of shitty in the first place. So a little dort doesnt really matter.
And for the highlight of every day, vietnamese food:

Booking guide for Ninh Binh one day tour
Booking Guide
Traveling to Ninh Binh in one day, you will visit both historical sites and natural sites. The historical sites include Hoa Lu ancient capital & Bai Dinh pagoda. The natural sites are Tam Coc (boat tour), Trang An (boat tour), and Hang Mua (viewpoint). Some tours offer you a short cycling trip to local villages.
Tam Coc & Trang An have similar landscapes and you will be on a sampan boat, rowed by locals. The boat trip to Trang An (> 2 hours)  is longer than Tam Coc (1,5 hours). If you choose Tam Coc then you do not need to visit Trang An (except if you have a longer time in Ninh Binh)
Hang Mua (Mua Cave) viewpoint is the peak of Mua mountain, you have to climb 500 steps to get there. You need to prepare shoes, and water and take care of the children.
Bai Dinh pagoda complex is very large so an electric car is recommended to explore the whole area.
The transfer from Hanoi to Ninh Binh is 2 hours, easy transfer on the expressway with a stop on the half way.

Day Two: Good Ol' Northern Vietnam
Day two began quite early and this time, it was by choice. We had a big tour ahead of us. The hotel breakfast has been excellent so far and today was no exception. Pho bo for Alex and pho ga for Rachel. We included a healthy side of fruits as well.
Our tour bus picked us up at 7:45. His name was Phuong but he said, call me Happy. He used that word, happy, many times. Emphasis on language made it stick in our minds. It was a tad corny, silly, but his charming personality allowed us to power through the two hour trip out of the city and into Ninh Binh, in North Central Vietnam.
Hang Mua - the dragon mountain. 500 stairs and no elevator, cable car, or anything like that. What a climb. The viewpoint had two statues: one of Buddha, and the other of a stone dragon. Alex climbed all the way up to touch the dragon - a sign of good fortune, or so says the man who used the word happy in every other sentence. At the top we could see the river with mountains and if we turned around we saw the city of Ninh Binh.
Around noon we went to a buffet lunch, which was nothing we want to write more about. But we did get to chat with some of our tour companions, including two other Americans who just so happened to reside in Sunnyside, Queens.
At the restaurant we picked up some bicycles and we rode to the original capital of Vietnam. By original we mean a thousand years ago. The former site of the palace of Dinh Bo Linh. The cycling was not too hard but the bicycles were pretty beaten up, and the seats were fixed low for a shorter Vietnamese size. We still strolled through to view a temple, and gaze upon older architecture including stone "dragon beds."
After the temple visit, it was time for our boat ride, which we both would agree was the highlight of the excursion.
Trang An. We took a boat with our fellow New Yorkers for a two hour ride gazing in awe at limestone mountains, spying distant temples and navigating through caves. We didn't do any of the navigation, however - that was our boater - an unnamed older Vietnamese lady. It was a terrific trip, with mountains that could truly split clouds and inspire dreams. The caves were gorgeous and sparkled when we waved the light at it. You can thank the calcium deposits for that.
With all that traveling, we passed out on the bus ride home. For sure.
We got home, grabbed our jackets and grabbed some dinner at a recommended pho spot. That's right. Two bowls of pho in one day. And we gotta say: it was terrific.
But that wasn't all. We ended our night by going to Vietnam's premier craft beer tavern. American style craft beer, mixed with Vietnamese flavors like passionfruit, guava, jasmine. This spot was on par with all the New York breweries and we made sure that we'd visit their Ho Chi Minh City location. Speaking of Ho Chi Minh City, that's where we're headed tomorrow. It was a sad goodbye to Hanoi but we can't stay in one place forever.
Total distance: six miles walked, three miles of cycling, and 34 flights of stairs.
Rachel: What a day. I feel like we saw so much and I'm filled with excitement and exhaustion. Where to even begin?
Alex: How about our new friends and neighbors? We met a couple who live in Queens and spent a decent amount of time with them. A very long boat ride. We talked a lot. How do you feel about them?
R: They remind me of a younger us.
A: Really?
R: Kind of! But they were different in that they are both in law school and both are more scared of the world that we ever were. And that's saying something for me.
A: I'd rather be on the boat with them than the Austrians who arrived late, got on the wrong bus at one point, coughed the entire time (I think he has asthma, not sick) and were generally not the vibe. What part of your body is most sore?
R: My thighs from the 500 very large steps that we did to get to a really incredible view.
A: Not gonna lie, at one point I was kind of worried you were really not doing well.
R: Well after nine miles yesterday, and still battling jet lag, the struggle is real.
A: The two bowls of pho didn't cure jet lag? We talked about this aloud but our hotel has really good breakfast. The pho was just as good in our hotel as in the best pho spot in Hanoi.
R: With a line to prove it!
A: For real. And all locals too. But we're leaving Northern Vietnam now. What memories will you take closest to you?
R: The boat ride today had caves. Limestone caves. It really reminded me of my dad and made me miss him a lot but grateful for all he taught me and felt like he was there with us.
A: It was my first thought too. I thought about the last time we went caving in Belize. And we're going scuba diving next week. It's these memories and trips that connect us to the people that we love that make it more special.
R: So what memories will you keep?
A: Idk, pho?
R: I'm still dreaming about these summer rolls.
A: Next stop is a place that'll feel like summer. Saigon!

Mua Cave - Cultural Beauty in Ninh Binh, Vietnam 🇻🇳 💯🛸😊📸🔥 Greetings and have a fantastic day all. ~~~~ Mua Cave, situated under Mua Mountain, is described by the locals as “an enormous bell put upside down”. The Cave has its side of about 800 meters square. Looking from the bottom of the mountain, various white stone steps leading to the mountain’s top shape like a miniature of “China’s Great Wall”. On the two sides of this “Great Wall”, there are delicate dragon and phoenix-shaped stones, which were thought to be carved in Tran Dynasty as they reflect exactly this Dynasty’s art spirit. . . . #việtnam #vietnam🇻🇳 #vietnamcharm #vietnamtravels #vietnamnow #vietnamphotography #vietnamwonders #vietnamflashback #vietnamtourism #vietnamstreetphotography #vietnamtravel #vietnamtrip #vietnamstyle #vietnamlife #travelsoutheastasia #southeastasiatrip #discoverasia #visitasia #seasia #seasiatravel #southeastasiatravel #total_asia #amazingasia #asia_vacations #asiaphotography #asianwanderlust #asiatour #asiatravel (at Mua Caves - Hang Múa Official) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChGteQFPsHT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
